This is a book about the sea turtle I made this for Dina my counselor at my program .

1. Diet

A lot of sea turtles are usually carnivores and that means that they only eat
meat but there is one sea turtle that is not an carnivore and that is the
green sea turtle they are herbivores and the green sea turtle will usually eat
sea grass and algae, but most of the other sea turtles will eat crabs,
lobster, shrimp and other invertebrates that have shells on them like the
shellfish, jellyfish, Portuguese Man of War and they will also eat small fish
as well. The type of food that the sea turtle will eat it depends on the type
species and how old the turtle is . A sea turtle will eat so many different
types of food and the that is sea grass, seaweed. There are a lot turtles
that will only eat just meat and there are some that will eat only plants and
there are some other turtles that will eat just both to. They can also eat sea
grass and seaweed. Sea turtles can eat so many different types of food
but the type of food that they will eat really depends on the species but
the most common foods that they will eat the most is jellyfish, seaweed,
crabs, shrimp, sponges, snails, algae and mollusks. The green sea turtle
is a herbivore and that means that they only eat plants or any other food
that is vegetation and the types of foods that they will eat is seaweed and
sea grasses. When the sea turtles are very young then they will start to eat
different types of invertebrates but when they get a lot older then they will
start to become an herbivore. The loggerhead sea turtle can eat these
types of food that they will eat is this brown algae that is called
sargassum. These turtles also have very powerful jaws that they will use
when they are crushing their prey and the type of animals that are prey to
these turtles are conchs, horseshoe crabs, and other animals that have
very hard shells on them.

2. Habitat/Range

The best place to find a sea turtle is in warm temperate waters that can be
found on every ocean that has warm temperate water and they can be
found all over the world. These turtles can also migrate in hundred miles.
The green sea turtle can be found in tropical, sub­tropical and they can
also be found in temperate waters that can be found all over the world.
There are two different types of subspecies of the green sea turtle and
that is the Atlantic population and in the Pacific population. A lot of turtles
can be found on every single continent except for Antarctica. The Aquatic
species are found in oceans, swamps, freshwater lakes, ponds, and they
can also be found in streams, The terrestrial species are found in places
like in deserts, forests and on grasslands.Green sea turtles can be found
on warmer waters and it has to be shallow enough so that the seagrass
can grow. Sea grass turtle is activity the green sea turtle’s favorite food.
These turtles can also be seen far out into the sea so that they can get to
the nesting beaches so that the females can lay her eggs. The green turtle
can also be found in very warm ocean areas and they can also live in the
mediterranean sea. But the most common places that they will be found in
is on rookeries which is their nesting beaches that are found on Tortuguero
that is located in Costa Rica. The other places where these turtles can be
found in is on a island which is called Ascension Island which is located in
the Caribbean and on Ascension Island in mid­Atlantic. Turtles that live in a
ocean they are called sea turtles. The type of waters that the sea turtles
will swim in is shallow coastal water, bays, lagoons, estuaries and they can
also be found on open ocean as well. The type of seas that the sea turtle
will swim in is warm and temperate seas that can be found all over the
world. All different types of sea turtles can be found on every ocean in the
world for the only ocean that they do not go to is the Arctic ocean that is
because it is too cold for them. The waters that they will normally swim in is
really warm waters and they can also live in shallow coastal locations like in

3. lagoons and bays. But sometimes they can also be found in very deep
water to. The green sea turtle can be found in sub­tropical and temperate
waters that can be found all over the world. That is where the sea turtle
lives.
Size/Weight

All different sea turtles all come in different sizes but the biggest sea turtle
in the species is the leatherback sea turtle they can grow about 6 feet long
and they can weigh about 1,000 pounds. The smallest turtle of the
species is the Kemp ridley turtles. They can grow about 2 feet long and
100 pounds. The largest sea turtle which is the leatherback sea turtle the
length of these sea turtles is 8 feet (2.4 meters). The leatherback sea
turtle is not just the largest turtle in the species it is also the heaviest sea
turtle to and they can weigh about 1,800 pounds (817 kilograms). The
other size of the kemp’s Ridley sea turtle is 30 inches long (762). The
other size of the leatherback sea turtle is six and a half feet long (over
1.8m) The males and the females all have the same size. The weight that
is between 80­100 lbs (36­45 kg). The weight of the leatherback sea turtle
is 2,000 pounds (over 907 kg). The size of an sea turtle is 2 to 6 feet (0­5
to 1.9) long and they can weigh about 78 to 1900 pounds (35 to 870 kg).
The size of the green sea turtle is 5 ft (1.5 m) and the weight of these
animals are 700 lbs (317.5kg). The green sea turtle are one of the most
largest sea turtle in the species and the length of these sea turtles is 1 to
1.2 m (3.5 ­ 4 ft) and the weight of these animals is 200kgs (441 lbs). The
weight of an loggerhead sea turtle is that they can be light than a piano and
the weight of these animals are 253 lbs. These sea turtles can be as
slower as a car and that is 15 mph and the length of the leatherback sea
turtle is a lot shorter than any school bus and that is 3 feet long. The length
of the green sea turtle is up about 1.5 and he weight of these animals is

4. 185kg. There are about seven different types of sea turtle in the world but
the largest sea turtle out of all of these sea turtles is the leatherback sea
turtle and they can grow about 2 metres long. A lot of sea turtles can grow
as long as 53­114 cm (21­45 in ) the largest sea turtle in the world is the
leatherback sea turtle and they can reach about 1.2­19m (3.9­62ft). 2.95ft)
that is how long the leatherback sea turtle is. there is no difference
between the a male and a female they all have the same size. The weight
of these animals are 27 to 186 kg (60­410) this weight is for the species
that are known to be very small. The green sea turtle is 5 ft (1.5 m) and the
weight of these types of turtles 700 lbs (317.5kg).
Life span

The average life span of the green sea turtle is 80 years. The leatherback
sea turtle can live about 45 years. The loggerhead sea turtle can live about
50 years. The green sea turtle can sometimes live about 40 to
years.When the sea turtle is in the wild then it will live about 80 this is how
long that they will live when they are living on their natural habitat.

There are a lot of people that can tell the difference between an turtle and
a Tortoise. The difference between the two is that the turtle will spend a lot
of the water. Turtles usually have webbed feet these feet are very helpful
for when they are swimming in the water. But the best life for these animals
in the aquatic life style that have very long feet and that can become
flippers and a streamlined body shape. The turtle usually never leaves the
ocean but the only time that they do is when the females is ready to have
babies or ready to lay her eggs. The place that they will lay their eggs is
usually on the surface but there are some species like the green sea turtle

5. they like to live in habitats that have lots of reefs and they also like to live
on beaches that has an bask. Other species of turtles live in freshwater
and those places are ponds and lakes. The difference between the other
turtles is that they can climb on banks, logs, and onto rocks that will usually
bask into the sun. When the weather starts to get cold than the turtle will
start to build up an burrow right into the mud and they will usually stay in
there until the spring season comes or when the weather becomes warm
again. The Tortoise is a lot different than a turtle that is because they are
the type of species that will normally spend a lot of their time on land and
they will also eat different types of food like they can eat grass and they
can also eat cactus as well.The other difference between a tortoise and a
turtle is that the tortoise does not have webbed feet they have a more
rounded and slumpy so that it can help them when they are walking on
land. There are some tortoises species that can be found on hot and dry
places and how they survive this hot climate is that they have very strong
forelimbs that are used to dig up burrows into the mud for when it gets too
hot to go outside . The other difference between the species is there are
some turtle species that can go on land but they mostly spend a lot of their
time in the water and the type of water that they like to swim in is freshwater
they can also be found in the ocean, brackish ponds, and they can also be
found in marshland. The front feet of the turtle all have fins that is on their
merely webbed toes. On the back of their feet they have streamlines that
is right on the back of their feet. These feet comes in handy when they are
swimming in the water. The biggest difference between a turtle and
tortoise is that the turtle has a lot flatter back and it might spend a lot of its
time in the water. The other difference between the turtle and the tortoise
is that they live in different kinds of habitats like turtles live in freshwater
and the tortoise mostly spend a lot of their time on the surface. The only
time that tortoise will go into the water is when they have to get themselves
clean or they have to get a drink. Another fact is that tortoises do not know
how to swim so that is a really big difference if a tortoise ever goes into
very deep water it will normally drown. The other difference is that tortoises
do not migrate a lot like sea turtles do. The other main difference between

6. these two species is their diet. Is that tortoises are herbivores and that
means that they can only eat plants and the food that they will is grass,
flowers, and they can also eat weeds. They can also eat shrubs, cacti and
eat so many different types of plants that have a lot of moisture in them
they can also eat fruit,The type of food that a tortoise will eat when it is in
captivity is leaves. But there are some species of tortoises that can also
eat insects, worms and they can also eat carrion which in other words a
dead animal. There is a special group that the turtle and the tortoise
belong to and it is called chelonians but there is another animal that is also
in this group to and they are called Terrapin A Terrapin is a special type of
animal that can give birth to live young is on the land and in the water but
these animals always seem to be close to the water and the places where
they will swim in is places like rivers, ponds and they can also be found in
lakes. The Terrapin can also be found in brackish swampy areas to.

There are about 290 different types of tortoises and turtles and each one
of them all have shells on them. The shell of these animals all have 60
different bones that can be found that is in their shells and they are all
covered by very big scales so that it can protect them for danger like
predators. The turtles have an very flattish shape which really comes in
handy when they are swimming in the water. The tortoises are a lot
different that is because they have an more domed shell and this can help
them to get protection from predators. The turtle and tortoises are two
special groups and they are called the hidden­necked and the side neck.
The hidden­ necked turtle and tortoises all know how to pull their heads
into their heads inside of their shells and they can do this with their necks.
The sides turtles can pull their heads right under the edge of their shells

7. and they can do this by bending their necks sideways. Just like any other
turtle in the world they have an very hard shell that acts a lot like an armor
and it will protect them from predators. The top part of the turtles shell is
called a carapace. There are some turtles that an oval shape on them and
there are others that are shaped just like a heart. Sea turtles do not go
inside of their shells like other species turtles do. The turtle and tortoises
are separated into two groups and those groups are the hidden­necked
and the side­necked turtle groups. The hidden­necked turtles and tortoises
all know how to pull their heads into their shells and they can do this by
forming the S­shaped curve and they can do this with their necks.The
sided turtles can pull their heads right under the edge of their shells and
they can do this with their necks sideways. The turtles and tortoises are
known to be in the old group of reptiles and these animals have been
around for 220 million years all these animals all have a backbone on
them. Turtles are known to be the only ones that have shells that have 59
to 61 bones that is all over these special plates that are called scutes and
the shells are currently made out of keratin this is the type of stuff that is
inside of our fingernails. turtles do not have the ability to crawl under stuff
that is because the shell is very attached to the spine and to their rib cage.
The top of the shell is called a carapace and the bottom is called the
plastron. Turtles can feel pressure and pain right inside of their shells so
when they are stressed they can feel it in their shells. It is like the same
way that we feel pressure through our fingernails. There are some species
of turtles that can pull their heads, legs and into their shells and these
types of turtles are called hidden­necked turtles.This is how they can make
room in their shell they can sometimes have to breathe out a lot of air out
of their lungs this will also make an hissing sound when they are doing this.
There are other turtles that can not pull their legs or their heads inside of
their shell these species can have very large necks that can help to protect
their heads when they are tucking sideways into the shell and these types
of turtles are called the side­necked turtles. A tortoise is not really heavy
as that a lot of people might think. A tortoise shell can hold a lot of very
small chambers which happens to be very light. The leatherback sea turtle

8. and the softshell turtles all have a rounded, flattened carapace and all over
their shells are all covered with tough, leathery skin that will support the
turtles small bones. The bone of the shell are known to reduced when they
are making their shells flexible when they are making their shells flexible
and need it to be so that it can swim and dive in the water. The leatherback
sea turtle can dive about 3,000 feet (900 meters) under the oceans
surface.

The turtle and the tortoises do not have ears like we do but these
creatures can feel different vibrations and that usually changes it really
depends on the pressure of the water and that will tell the theses animals
where their food is and if their is a predator somewhere nearby. These
animals can smell very well and it can help them when they are looking for
food . The turtles and the tortoises that live on land they look leathery and
tough but all of these senses that the land turtles and the tortoises are
known to be very sensitive. The turtles that live in the water they have
some amazing tricks that can help them to stay under the water for a very
long time. There are some species that can pump a lot of water in or out of
their mouth and out of their throat. This is where the rich line for the blood
vessels that can help the turtles to breathe in the water. There are some
species that can stay under the water for only one day at a time and they
can do this to move the water in and out of their cloaca so that they can
gain a lot of oxygen. The turtles that live in Australia are called bum
breathers that have large webbed, paddle­like feet that will help the sea
turtles to push through the water with ease. There is only one freshwater
turtle that has real flippers and they are called a fly river turtle and they can
use their flippers like the ocean­dwelling turtles use.There are a lot of
predators that the sea turtle faces but the predator that the sea turtle faces
the most is sharks and the shark will go after them is the tiger shark but the

9. tiger shark goes after them the most and humans also harm them to. But
the most dangerous time when they are babies the animals that will eat
them will be sea birds, crabs and even fish will also eat them as well.

Sea turtles spent a lot of their time out on the open ocean but they do go
up on land but only when it is time to breed and the females will always use
the same beach when she was born in when it is time for them to have
babies. This is how sea turtle mothers takes care of their babies first she
will go to the beach so that she can lay her babies then the mother will
bury it. After the mother is done laying her eggs than the mother will go
back into the ocean and then she will leave her babies alone so that they
can hatch when they are in the nest that is placed under the sand. When
the baby turtles are out of the eggs then they will start to walk into the
ocean and then they will start their whole life in the sea. The amount of
eggs that the female will lay about is 200 soft­shelled eggs that will be
placed in the sand. The moment that the babies hatch than the babies will
head straight to the ocean. It is very hard to be an baby sea turtle that is
because they will have to deal with lots of different predators that are
always after them like they will be eaten by birds or other predators
normally usually only one sea turtle baby will make it to adulthood. A lot of
people do not understand on how females can find the place where they
were born that is some of the things that people do not understand about
them. Turtles and tortoises usually lay leathery eggs. The females can lay
about 240 eggs all at one time but it really depends on the species on
how many eggs that the female lays. It can take a very long time for the
babies are ready to come out of their eggs they will be ready to come out
of the eggs in two months or even more than maybe for a whole year.

10. When the female is ready to have babies then she will go to the same
beach where she was born so that she can lay her eggs. When night
comes than the females will start to haul themselves onto the beach than
the mother will start to dig up a very deep hole right into the sand so that
the female can lay her eggs in the sand. Then the eggs will be buried in
the sand. The eggs would not be able to hatch until for a few months later
than the babies will start to dig their way up to the surface. A adult sea
turtle faces not a lot predators but only a few will go after an full grown sea
turtle but the most dangerous time is when the sea turtle is a baby that is a
different story because the babies are very vulnerable when they are born
and the mother does not protect them from predators. A mother sea turtle
will aly about a lot of eggs onto the beach. They can be found in a hole that
the mother duged up then after the mother has laid her eggs than the
mother will leave her babies so that they can hatch. So she heads back to
the ocean where she was born. The eggs are not being protect meaning
they can get eaten by any predator. The danger is not over yet when the
eggs hatch then they head straight to the ocean but they are still in trouble
from predators trying to eat them because a bird can spout down and grab
a baby sea turtle and these babies do not know how to protect
themselves from danger. The sea turtle will reach maturity in about 5 or 45
days but it really depends on the type of species. The moment that they
hatch then they can reach about the size as an 1 to 3 inches (25 to 76
millimeters) but it all depends on the species. The incubation period is 45
to 70 days. The size of the clutch is 50 ­ 200 eggs. 1­9 clutches per
season. The nesting season for the sea turtle is usually during the warmest
months of the year.
Survival Status

The sea turtle faces a lot of threats that is being done by people and the
threats that sea turtle is facing is oil spills, habitat loss that is due to

11. development but the most biggest threat to sea turtles is that people keep
on throwing their trash into the ocean like people will throw a plastic bag to
the sea. When this happens than the sea turtle will think that it is a jellyfish
when it is floating in the water this is a problem because than when the
turtle eats it then the turtle will die but the sea turtle is not the only animal
that is dealing with trash that is being thrown into the ocean and the other
animals that is facing this threat is dolphins, whales, sea snakes, fish, and
sharks can all be in trouble by us throwing our garbage into the ocean. The
sea turtles eggs are also in trouble that is because when they are
incubating then the temperature of their surrounding affects the sex of the
babies. When the temperature is very high than it will produce a lot of
females. When the climate changes then the sand will start to become
very warm than when that happens then the ratio of the females and the
males will start to become out of balance that will damage on the way on
how they breed activities on when the babies start to become adults.
There is also a problem with beach communities this is a problem
because this can confuse the sea turtles because they think that it looks
like the moon or the stars reflection that can become off of the waves and
then back into the water this can make the sea turtle very easy target for
predators because the light is so bright and the predators can see them.
The other problem that the sea turtle is facing is dendration and they can
also become road kill as well. There are also some countries that are also
selling turtle shells in black markets. People can also harvest the sea
turtle’s eggs for food. The sea turtles faces a lot of dangers. The other
threat that the sea turtle is faces is that people are building different types
of roads, homes and hotels on places where turtles lay eggs and the
places where people are taking over are lakes, rivers and seas. This is a
problem because this can be very confusing for the sea turtle on where
they can lay their eggs because than they will have to find a new place to
lay them in a very small area and that also means not a lot of baby sea
turtles will be born. Sea turtles also face danger out in the ocean there is
problem because sea turtles are getting caught in fishing nets, lines and
plastic bags. These items are bad because a sea turtle can get itself

12. tangled and it can also kill them to. The turtles that live all over the world
are starting to lose their habitats because they are getting destroyed or
polluted. The people that live in china will eat sea turtles. The amount of
sea turtles that china eats is about 10 million turtles that are getting eaten
by people in china. There are also 180 million softshell turtles that are
being raised in farms every single year for consumption that is in china.
The turtles that live in North America are starting to loss their habitat is
starting to destroy the turtles population because there is not a lot of room
for female turtles to lay their eggs because all of the beaches are being
taken over by people. There are about 7 different species of sea turtle that
live on this planet and all of them are all under threat of extinction one of
the problems is that they are getting caught in very big fishing nets. The
other threat that the sea turtle is facing is that people are also taking sea
turtle eggs away from their nest so that they can eat them.

We must do something to help and to save these amazing animals. These
turtles need all the help that they can get. Turtles have the right to continue
living on this planet. They are doing their part in nature and we should find
a place in nature to and we should find a place in nature to. This is really a
big planet that is filled with wonders and discoveries that are just waiting to
be found. We have to make this planet safe a safe place for us and for the
other creatures that we share this planet with. This is our beautiful future if
we find a way to project our planet. This is our world and our home will be
much happier and a much cleaner place to live in. We have to make room
for other living creature to. God made animals for a reason just like he
made us. That is what I know about the sea turtle. If we work together we
can save the sea turtle and other animals that live on this planet to.
