What is a shark
• The shark is known to be an amazing fish that has
been around ever since the dinosaurs were
around. They can be found on every ocean of the
world. They can also be seen in rivers and lakes as
well. Sharks are a a different kind of bony fish
that is because they do not have bones instead
they have something that is called cartilage which
happens to be an very tough and fibrinous,
substance but they are not as strong as bones
are. Just like other bony fish they have no swim
bladder
Where do sharks live
• Sharks can be found in every ocean and sea in the world but most species of shark will normally be
found in waters that are warm temperature. There will also be some species that will be found in
only cold waters as well. Sharks can be found in so many water habitats some of them can be found
in shallow waters or in very deep open oceans. They also live in seabed's this is a good place when
they are hunting. Some sharks can not only be found in oceans and seas they can also be found in
rivers and lakes especially if the area has warm waters. There are some species that can be found
near the surface, deep waters and there are some that live on or near the ocean floor. The sharks
that live open ocean are called the pelagic sharks and the sharks that live in open ocean are great
white shark and the basking shark. The sharks that live on the ocean floor or called Benthic sharks
and that includes the zebra horn sharks, the wobbegongs and the angel sharks which are known to
be flattened and also can camouflage their bodies that can help them to hide in the seabed . There
are some sharks that can travel to fresh waters that can be found in the rivers that are in Mississippi
in the USA and they can also be found in the Amazon that is in Brazil. There are some species of
shark that live in warm waters and the sharks that live in warm waters is hammerheads, bull sharks
and tiger sharks, but there are some species that will live in both temperate waters and those
sharks are thresher sharks, mako sharks, the basking shark and the blue shark. There are some
sharks that live in cold temperate waters and those sharks are the dogfish, Greenland and goblin
shark. There are some sharks that like to stay in the same region and stay in their for the rest of
their lives.
Angel Shark
• Diet : Small bony fish, crustaceans, squids, clams,
snails, slugs and mollusks.

that can be found in northwastern of the Atlantic. They
can also be found on the coastal waters that is around
the southern Alaska to Baja California the sea of cortez
and from the Ecuador to south chile.
• Size/weight: These sharks can grow about 5 feet (1.5m)
• Life span: 25-35 years
• Threats : human consumption, predators and bycatch
• Attacks : 0 kills
Basking shark
• Diet these sharks are filler feeders which means they eat their food by opening up
their mouth very wide and the food that they will eat is plankton, baby fish and
fish eggs
• Habitat These sharks can be found in the waters that is closer to the surface during
the summer and they will dive back into the sea when winter comes and they will
dive about 2953 feet down to the sea. These waters can be found on the North
and south Atlantic ocean, the Mediterranean sea, north and south pacific ocean,
the sea that is around Japan and they can also be found on the seas that is by
southern Australia and they can also be found New Zealand as well.

squid. These sharks are filter feeders.
• Habitat These sharks can be found on the open seas that is off of beaches coral
reefs, and islands that can be located in tropical and warmer waters but they will
not be found in the meditterean sea. They will also live in warmer waters that are
near the equator. These sharks will spent a lot of their time of their time near the
surface. These sharks be found on any ocean that is warm and that is near the
equator which has to be like 30 – 40 latitude.

are.
• Life span 150 years they can live even longer than that.
• Threats human consumption
• Attacks The whale shark is very harmless to people. They will be in different to
divers.
Shark’s senses
• The good reason why these animals are so good at hungting is by
the help of their senses. The sense’s that the great while shark
usings to help them hunt is there amazing sense of smell, hearing
and sight. They also have another sense but this one is an sensitvie
electro receptive and this is called Ampullae of Lorenzini, but the
best sense that these animals have is their sense of smell and it is
so goof that is can detect blood from three miles away in the water.
Sharks will use their keen sense of smell and sight to find their prey.
Shark’s can even smell blood that can be over seven miles away
from them. They can even pick up sounds and vibrations of an
animal that are moving in the water about hundred feet away.
Sharks will use their sight to look for the prey that they are after.
There are some sharks that can located an animal from a mile away
by using their sense of smell to follow trails of blood that are in the
water
Megalodon
• The megalodon is an exintct shark that lived in the lived about 25 to 1.6 million
years ago this was during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs happened. These
sharks are known to be extincted. These sharks happened to be very big as well.
They can be 3 times as bigger than the great white shark is and they can grow
about 40ft (12 m) long or even more they are some scientists thing that they can
even grow at least about 50 to 100ft (15.5 or 31 m) and that is long. But this is all
has been an estimated due from the fossilized teeth and the few fossilized
backbone that has been found. . The size of their teeth is the same size as an
person’s hand but there has no been another body part of these sharks that have
been found so all we can do is guess. Lots of scientists think that the teeth of these
sharks are the same as the teeth of the great white which is known to be very big
and thicker. The food that these sharks will eat is mostly whales but these sharks
can eat about 2 percent of their body weight. This is less on what a human eats.
Since sharks are fish which means that they are cold blooded this means that they
did not have to eat a lot like warm-blooded animals do. The size of the fossilized
teeth of these giants is 6.5 inches (17 cm) long and these fossils have been found
in Europe, India, Oceania or any place that is around Australia this will also include
New Zealnd, New Caledonia etc) . There have been some fossils that also have
been found in the Amercas to.
Shark safety
• Don’t panic: Things that thrash around in the water excite sharks. The more fuss you make, the more the shark will be interested in you.
•
Hit the shark on the nose: A hard blow on the snout will sometimes confuse a shark’s senses. The shark may lose track of where you are and break
off the attack.
• Stick your fingers in the shark’s eyes or in its nostrils: This may also cause a shark to stop the attack.
• Get to a doctor fast: If you are hurt, Most people who die from a shark attack are killed by loss of blood. The sooner a doctor treats you, the better
your chances are of surviving.
• Always swim in a group: Sharks will normally attack one individuals and having someone with you is really important because if you are alone than
no one can help you if a shark does attack you, but there has been times that sharks do sometimes attack a person when they are in a group.
• Don’t wander too far from shore: Doing so isolates you and places you away from assistance
• Don’t swim in murky water: If you can’t see underwater than you will have a hard time knowing if a shark is nearby and remember if the shark can’t
see you does not mean they can’t find you.
• Avoid the water at night dawn or dusk: There are so many sharks that are active at these times and they will be able to find you way better this way
and they can also see you to.
• Never trust a shark: If you see a shark : If you see a shark in the water get just if the water as fast as you can . No matter how small the shark is it can
still be dangerous also make sure you also warm other people that you seen a shark so that they can get out of the water to,
• Do not enter the water if you are bleeding: Sharks have an very good sense of smell and sharks can smell or even taste blood and it will trance it
back to its source. If you are breeding do not go in the water because blood can attractive a shark even when they are far away from it and they ca n
even smell a small amount of blood can even attract them .
• If you see a shark: If a shark is nearby then stay out of the water. A shark will normally stay in the same location for about 7 weeks so once they have
been seen then there might be a good chance that they are still swimming nearby.
• Don’t wear shiny jewelry: The light that refeclectes on the object will mistake a shark for a shiny fish scales
• Don’t go into waters that contains sewage: The sewage can attract fish bait which means it can also attract sharks
Sharks in trouble
• Sharks are more in danger from us then we are to them. That is why these animals
are misunderstood. Here are the reasons why people are more of a threat to them
then they are to us. One of the threats that Sharks are facing is the people are
killing their them for their fins so that they can make shark fin soup. The other
threats that sharks are facing is overfishing, bycatch, habitat and prey loss and
human disturbance. Sharks are also being killed for sport and food and people will
usually do this in a year. People will also use their skins to make products out of
them just like any other leather out there. In the 1950’s the shark’s livers will be
used for vitamin a supplement. But the biggests threat that sharks are facing is
people are killing them so that they can use their fins in a soup that is called shark
fin soup and shark steaks and both of these meals are being eatern in so many
countires but the shark that they will kill the most for this is the Mako shark.
People have been killing sharks for food, medicine and vitamins and people have
been doing this for so many years . People have also killed them for their teeth so
that they can make weapons and jewelry out of them and their skins are being
made into sandpaper. This is the reason why sharks are about to head to
extinction. People are also caughting them by accident by using their snagged in
nets that will set out to catch other fish species.
Why sharks are important
• Sharks have been swimming in the worlds oceans for 400 million years. They even lived 100 million
years even before the dinosaurs ruled the earth. So these animals have been around for a very long
time they were even alive with the dinosaurs were around as well and that was about 100 years
ago. The population of sharks are starting to go down that is because they are being threatened by
people. Some of the major threats that people do to them is commercial fishing this is one of the
biggest threats that sharks are facing today and if this goes on then the sharks will be gone forever
which means they will become extinct just like the dinosaurs.
• Sharks are known to be one of the top predators of the ocean and they are very well known for it as
well but with them being a predator makes them a very important part in our ecosystem and the
balance of nature. They are also an important part about keeping nature healthy and clean. If there
are not a lot of sharks in the oceans because of them having human contact. Then the ocean will
start to start to suffer from unpredictable and devastating consequences that is what will happen if
sharks disappear from our world forever cause than life will not be able to go on without them.
Sharks are like police officers of the ocean there job is to protect their home which is the ocean
and after it is their home so it is their job to protect it from people from destroying it. Not only it
will keep the ocean in balance but they will also make sure that other habitats are protect to like
sea grass beds and coral reefs so that these places can have a healthy ecosystem.

  • 28. Sharks in trouble • Sharks are more in danger from us then we are to them. That is why these animals are misunderstood. Here are the reasons why people are more of a threat to them then they are to us. One of the threats that Sharks are facing is the people are killing their them for their fins so that they can make shark fin soup. The other threats that sharks are facing is overfishing, bycatch, habitat and prey loss and human disturbance. Sharks are also being killed for sport and food and people will usually do this in a year. People will also use their skins to make products out of them just like any other leather out there. In the 1950’s the shark’s livers will be used for vitamin a supplement. But the biggests threat that sharks are facing is people are killing them so that they can use their fins in a soup that is called shark fin soup and shark steaks and both of these meals are being eatern in so many countires but the shark that they will kill the most for this is the Mako shark. People have been killing sharks for food, medicine and vitamins and people have been doing this for so many years . People have also killed them for their teeth so that they can make weapons and jewelry out of them and their skins are being made into sandpaper. This is the reason why sharks are about to head to extinction. People are also caughting them by accident by using their snagged in nets that will set out to catch other fish species.
  • 29. Why sharks are important • Sharks have been swimming in the worlds oceans for 400 million years. They even lived 100 million years even before the dinosaurs ruled the earth. So these animals have been around for a very long time they were even alive with the dinosaurs were around as well and that was about 100 years ago. The population of sharks are starting to go down that is because they are being threatened by people. Some of the major threats that people do to them is commercial fishing this is one of the biggest threats that sharks are facing today and if this goes on then the sharks will be gone forever which means they will become extinct just like the dinosaurs. • Sharks are known to be one of the top predators of the ocean and they are very well known for it as well but with them being a predator makes them a very important part in our ecosystem and the balance of nature. They are also an important part about keeping nature healthy and clean. If there are not a lot of sharks in the oceans because of them having human contact. Then the ocean will start to start to suffer from unpredictable and devastating consequences that is what will happen if sharks disappear from our world forever cause than life will not be able to go on without them. Sharks are like police officers of the ocean there job is to protect their home which is the ocean and after it is their home so it is their job to protect it from people from destroying it. Not only it will keep the ocean in balance but they will also make sure that other habitats are protect to like sea grass beds and coral reefs so that these places can have a healthy ecosystem.
