Asbestos removal from landmark listed building in central London
1. Deconstruct UK case study for the construction sector.
Client: BAM Construction Ltd
Location: Africa House, Kingsway
Contractor: Deconstruct UK Ltd
Completion Date: June 2011
Sector: Construction
2. About the Project:
Asbestos removal from landmark
listed building in central London.
We were appointed by BAM to carry out a major ‘cut
and carve’ package on this high profile scheme within
central London.
Asbestos was present in various forms throughout the
building, but redominantly as hardset asbestos
insulation within the risers serving the central core, also
as
an insulation board lining to the main lift shaft.
Additionally, isolated incidences of notifiable and non-
notifiable asbestos were identified throughout the
building that required removal.
3. Project Challenges:
The asbestos removal operation had to be completed in the midst of a very busy
construction site.
The works needed to be planned meticulously through close liaison with the
demolition teams, ensuring that work areas were clearly designated and not affected
by the on-going and adjacent demolition process.
Transit routes had to be kept clear and work areas were often very restricted.
