1. Production Diary
The firststintof filmingbeganonthe 23rd
of October2015. The cast assembledat8 0’clock, the main
aimof thisday was to complete the mainbodyof the filming.Ihadplannedthe daysothat the
transitionto filmingeachshotwasa smoothas possible.The firstfilminglocationwasanoldfruit
farm onthe edge of Wisbech.While filming startedwiththe twomainactors,a makeuptrasformtion
had begun.
The elderlycharacter“MissBennet”neededtolookasdecrepitandfrail aspossible;howeverthis
was a challenge due tothe factthat the actor playingthisrole was18 years old.To addressthisissue
I employedthe helpof makeupapprentice MollyCross.Thismake-upworkwastime consuming,
takingaroundan hour to complete.Byfilmingandcompletingmake-up,the wholeteamwasas
productive aspossible.Thisisthe finishedappearance of the characterMissBennet.
The nextchallenge came whenfilminginthe oldbarnin the property.AtthispointI neededtofilma
shotthat requiredspecificlightinganddialogue,more specificallythese twothingsneededtobe
synchronous tocreate the ideaof a demonicpossession. Thisisaprintscreenof the shot in
question.Tocreate the best effectthe lightbulbinthe backgroundneededtoflickerwhilethe

2. antagonistspoke intothe camera.Inseveral attemptsthe lightsanddialoguestartedatdifferent
times.Howeveraftersome trial anderror itworked.
Filmingcontinuedwithoutanissue uptothe shot ina large storage facilityonce againonthe
farmingproperty.Thisshotwasparticularlyimportantasitwouldact as a closingshottothe trailer,
therefore itneededtobe as suspensefulaspossible.Inthisshotthe protagonistlightsamatchin the
pitchblack roomonlyto illuminate the antagoniststandingrightbehindhim.HoweverasI
discovered,accurate framingwasdifficulttoachieve inthe darkbecause the matchonlyprovideda
short burstof light;whichinthe firstfew shotsrevealedthat bothcharacterwere out of shot.The
image belowisthe endresultof thiseffort.
The nextstage of filmingwasatanotherrural location,Because of the vastprogressthat was made
inthe previouslocationIhada smalleramountof filmingto do.We beganina maize field,here the
pace of the trailerquickensthisisthe firsttime andthe protagonistisinperil.Once again,lighting
was the mainproblembecause the daylightwasfading.TocounteractthisI usedcar lightsand
positionedthe actorsclosertothislightsource.Below isanexample of thateffect.

3. In thislocation,the antagonistalsohadmake-updone,thiswasfairlysimplisticbecause herfeatures
onlyneededtobe a ghostlywhite.
The last stage of filmingwasdone incompletedarkness,sonaturallylightingwasthe mainhurdle.
The car headlightsonce againgave sufficientlighttocreate a hostile atmosphere.
