Water Innovation: Boosting its value for Europe
— Activities in this call address:
◦ integrated approaches to water and climate change adaptation and mitigation;
◦ bringing innovative water solutions to the market;
◦ harnessing water research and innovation results for the benefit of industry, policy
makers and citizens in Europe and globally.
— This call is expected to contribute to several policy objectives:
◦ impacts of droughts and floods should be minimised;
◦ alternative water supply options are only relied upon when all water saving and
water efficiency measure are taken and other options exhausted;
◦ water extraction should remain below 20% of available renewable water
resources.

— [2015] Demonstration/pilot activities of new or improved innovative water solutions in a real
environment, with a focus on the cross cutting priorities identified in the EIP on Water, while addressing
the thematic priorities (EUR 45 million)
WATER-2-2014/2015: Integrated approaches to water and climate change
— [2015] Integrated approaches to food security, low-carbon energy, sustainable water management and
climate change mitigation (EUR 15 million)

Europe - project calls
WATER-3-2014/2015: Stepping up EU research and innovation cooperation in
the water area
• [2015] Proposals should pool the necessary financial resources from the participating national (or
regional) research programmes with a view to implementing a joint call for proposals resulting in grants
to third parties with EU co-funding to support the priorities identified in the Strategic Research Agenda
of the Water JPI (EUR 15 million)
WATER-4-2014/2015: Harnessing EU water research and innovation results for
industry, agriculture, policy makers and citizens
— [2015] Proposals (around EUR 3 million) should aim to:
◦ implement measures to showcase, exchange, test and transfer water management solutions to
end-users in the agricultural sector in view of improving water use efficiency and quality in
agricultural practices
◦ contribute to a 'thematic network'34 on water in agriculture with broad involvement of practitioners
and other stakeholders throughout Europe to compile, disseminate and further develop solutions;
and
◦ support the integration of water relevant issues in the EIP on 'Agricultural Productivity and
Sustainability', including linking up with EIP operational groups and related actions of the
EIP on 'Water'.

WATER-5-2014/2015: Strengthening international R&I cooperation in the field of
water
1. [2015] A coordination platform for scientists, decision makers, practitioners and other key stakeholders
representing a number of African countries throughout the duration of Horizon 2020 to identify
opportunities and constraints for the sustainable management of water and other natural resources
and ecosystems and for the development of cost-effective climate change adaptation and mitigation
measures in Africa (around EUR 3 million)
2. [2015] Development of water supply and sanitation technology, systems and tools, and/or
methodologies to manage risks associated with water supply and sanitation and/or cross-boundary
water management issues, or integrated water resources management systems for sustainable
agriculture and food security, sustainable environment protection and economic growth, focused on
the non-EU Mediterranean countries and/or Africa (EUR 15 million)

Introduction
— The Eurostars programme is publicly financed with a total budget of 1.14 billion euro and
is currently supported by 33 EUREKA countries and the European Union and available
for the following countries:
— Eurostars provides funding and support to research-performing companies, especially
SMEs
— The next deadlines for submitting an application are March 5th & September 17th 2015
Project eligibility criteria
— The project leader is an R&D-performing SME from a Eurostars Country
— The project contains at least two legal entities that are independent of one another
— The consortium is a partnership hosted by at least two different Eurostars
countries
— Market introduction of the major project result is planned to occur within 24.0
months of the completion of the project
— Each of the participating organisations in the consortium is a legal entity in the
host country
— The project duration < 3 years

— START – Danube Region Project Fund is a new pilot initiative of the EUSDR
— Seed Money for the development and implementation of Danube Region projects
— The total allocation to START amounts to € 900.000 (95% European Commission,
5% City of Vienna)
— The START initiative is running until the end of 2016
— 2 calls for project proposals (1 left)
— START EU grants between € 10.000 to € 40.000 per project
— Project partners must co‐finance at least 10% of the total project costs, from their
own resources or other (non‐EU) sources
Eligibility criteria
— Applicants: public or private organisations with legal personality (no individuals), especially
small institutions, non‐governmental and civil society organisations
— Location: the entire Danube Region:
◦ EU Member States: Germany (Baden‐Württemberg and Bavaria), Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic,
Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia;
◦ EU Accession Countries: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro and

◦ involve at least two partners from two EUSDR countries

Aim
Public/Private Partnership for water safety and water security in developing
countries through collective initiatives between governmental bodies, private
sector and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and possibly knowledge
institutions
Themes
◦ Improved access to drinking water and sanitation;
◦ Efficient and sustainable water use, particularly within agriculture;
◦ Safe deltas and improved basin management.
Eligibility criteria
— The partnership consists of at least one public institute, one company and one NGO & at least
one Dutch and one local partner.
— An own contribution of at least 40% of the project budget.
— Minimum grant application is €500,000 and the maximum is €4,000,000.
— The maximum project duration: 7 years.
— The project activities take place in minimal one of the countries mentioned on the country list:

Water Innovation: Boosting its value for Europe — Activities in this call address: ◦ integrated approaches to water and climate change adaptation and mitigation; ◦ bringing innovative water solutions to the market; ◦ harnessing water research and innovation results for the benefit of industry, policy makers and citizens in Europe and globally. — This call is expected to contribute to several policy objectives: ◦ impacts of droughts and floods should be minimised; ◦ alternative water supply options are only relied upon when all water saving and water efficiency measure are taken and other options exhausted; ◦ water extraction should remain below 20% of available renewable water resources.
