2. Gender
The gender that my trailer is primarily aimed at is
both males and females.
Why?
1. Typically horror/thriller movies are generally aimed at both genders. Females are interested in watching
these movies are more then often too scared too, this is when the males get asked to watch the films with
them. Over the years this has been more the case so directors and film writes are having to cater for both
genders. I think by following in the footsteps of others I believe that it was the right thing to do to cater for
both genders to make it interesting.
2. As a genre it cannot be certain to which genre it generally applies to more, reasons being is as a genre it
will never be completely dead, everybody at some point likes to be scared and sitting on the edge of there
seats.
3. Age
We designed our trailer to follow conventions of other trailers, a lot of horror trailers capture the attention of
young adults. Horror elements in films, especially those aimed at younger audiences, are treated with great
caution. Many children enjoy the excitement of scary sequences, but where films are targeted at a younger
audience, age rating decisions will take into account such factors as the frequency, length and detail of scary
scenes as well as horror effects, including music and sound, and whether there is a swift and reassuring
outcome.
Typically directors do this because a lot of people in the the actual films are of similar age, this is where the
audience can relate to the film and then becomes more engaged.
4. Likes and interests of target
audience
The audience are more then likely to enjoy that there are similar ages included in the trailer. As mentioned before
they are often more engaged when they soon realize somebody similar to them is in the film, it makes it feel
more realistic and like it could happen to them.
Our chosen audience are going to be immediately opened with such stunning and relatable music that they will
want to hear and see the rest of the trailer. I truly believe that like any other trailer the opening of a trailer is the
most vital time to capture a persons attention. By catching the audiences attention so early on they are
automatically interested in seeing the rest of the film or trailer. My recent surveys can back this up as for when I
asked 10 people at random ‘’ Does the opening sequence of a thriller often attract your interest? ‘’ 90%
answered ‘yes’.
When also asked ‘’Do you prefer the film to seem more realistic? Or make believe?’’ 80% answered yes. By
including people of similar age to our target audience this adds to that effect and makes it seem more realistic. I
believe with my surveys answered and with the data I have, I can deliver a film trailer which is aimed at that
specific audience.
