Exciting opportunity to lead a highly‐respected leadership education program in a top university.
The Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership at the Berkeley Haas School of Business is dedicated to
educating and inspiring leaders to create positive social impact by actively engaging in the nonprofit,
social enterprise, public and business sectors throughout their careers and lives. Berkeley‐Haas is
ranked #1 in social impact by MBA students across the country (Business as UNusual 2014) and the
Center is ranked #4 in business school nonprofit programs by US News & World Report (2014). The
Center provides year‐round programming for 1,000 students, 100 mission‐driven organizations, and 500
community leaders each year on a budget of $1.3M. The Center focuses on academic courses,
experiential learning, lifelong learning, and applied research. Courses are offered in the three largest
programs at Haas: the full‐time MBA, evening‐weekend MBA, and undergraduate program. Last year the
Center served 79% of the full‐time MBAs. In addition 1/3 of the total students served come from other
campus programs including public policy, law, public health and more. The Executive Director works
with an Advisory Board of 14 and leads a staff team of 4‐6. S/he works closely with Laura Tyson,
Professor and Director of the Institute for Business and Social Impact and Nora Silver, Adjunct Professor
and Faculty Director of the Center.
The Center has been on a steep growth trajectory since its founding in 2006 and is poised for further
growth and impact.
Primary responsibilities
 Provides thought leadership on Center‐related topics through research, writing, and speaking at
professional gatherings, to the media and to the public
 Teaches at least one course on Center‐related topic per year (faculty title tbd)
 Works within the Institute for Business and Social Impact and collaborates with other Centers
within the Institute
 Develops the strategy and business plan for the Center, with input from key stakeholders within
and outside the university
 Develops and executes a plan for financing program activities and ensuring ongoing
sustainability of the program, including planning, directing and controlling the budget
 Creates and oversees programs for students, alumni, and mission‐driven organizations, including
assessing program effectiveness and improvement
 Develops and maintains close liaison with the Center’s Advisory Board
 Develops key partnerships and collaborations that advance the mission of the Center and ensure
sustainability

Qualifications
 Senior leadership experience in non‐profit organization, social enterprise, public sector or
related organization and/or academic center
 Recognized expertise and/or academic background in a related field
 Demonstrated expertise building collaborations across business, nonprofit, public, philanthropic
and academic organizations
 Demonstrated expertise with program building and administrative, budgetary, human resources
and financial principles and practices
 Demonstrated ability to maneuver within a complex system
 Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of board, faculty, staff, alumni and
students
 Expert oral and written communication skills
 Expert fundraising experience
 Expert negotiation skills
Education/Training
 Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
