1. Asociación de Profesores
de Inglés de Rosario March 2011
__________________________________________________________________________
Dear Member,
2011 marks the 35th Anniversary of our association. To the current EC, celebrating means
working harder than usual to meet the objectives: making APrIR – the association OF
teachers, BY teachers, FOR teachers – rise to as high a level as possible socially,
academically and culturally.
Celebrating this anniversary means remembering the former members of past ECs and
honouring teachers who are not among us any longer. The association would never have
come so far in time had former ECs not worked towards these shared aims.
Celebrating, again, means revising the purpose of our existence as a learning as well as
teaching community, and setting new attainable objectives.
It means helping our association to grow by adding new members, which will imply
gathering in an even larger group of like-minded colleagues. A more numerous group will
also allow for a greater diversity of interests, expertise and knowledge. In a world in which
knowledge no longer belongs only to specialists, in which knowledge is so vast that it cannot
possibly lie with a few, sharing and learning together and from each other seems to be the
only way to keep updated.
February brought us the realisation that we would need the whole of 2011 to be able to fulfill
all the projects that we had in mind as a way to provide different ways to mark this
anniversary. Every newsletter will come to you with a summary of what has gone on the
previous month and what has been planned for the near future.
Let us declare 2011 as the 12-month-long celebration of APrIR’s 35th birthday. Be our
guests, but help us organise opportunutes for happy and fruitful gatherings and join in!

TAs face in relation to these and other relevant issues in our own
professional context.

Bloomsday
Bloomsday is a commemoration observed annually on June 16th in Dublin and elsewhere to
celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and relive the events in his novel Ulysses, all of
which took place on the same day in Dublin in 1904. Joyce chose the date because his first
outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle happened on that day, when they walked to the
Dublin urban village of Ringsend. The name derives from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of
Ulysses. (Source: Wikipedia)
