5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 2
Introduction
For marketers, content is king. In the age of social media, marketers have
become more like publishers, generating content that entertains or educates
customers, rather than solely promoting products.
Today content marketing is a hot topic and has become a central marketing
approach for many recruitment agencies, both large and small. Good content
can establish relationships with not only candidates but also customers, and
enhance their perception of your agency brand. Providing information that
helps candidates professionally, builds trust and positive feelings toward your
company. Companies who post at least one status update per week on LinkedIn
get 40% more views to their LinkedIn job postings and 25% more clicks.
Good talent acquisition content marketing is:
Native: it doesn’t stand out the way a glossy brochure or sleek commercial
does. It’s a subtle way to warm up candidates, blending in with their daily
information streams.
Candidate-focused: what you share should add value to your audience and
give them useful information. It should not be a one-way conversation about
your brand.
Authentic: it matches the tone and spirit of your culture. Off-brand content is
worse than no content at all.
Think educate, not sell.
This eBook will show you how to create, share, and optimize content to support
brand. Ready? Let’s go!
What is agency brand?
Your agency brand is a
combination of several factors
and works on different levels
for candidates, clients and
consultants. For candidates it
serves as a reliable partner in
job opportunities and career
development; for clients, it’s
a strategic partner of talent
acquisition, which is an
indispensable part of human
resources strategy and empowers
business growth; and for
consultants it serves as a place to
work.

Relationships at scale
Why content marketing?
Marketing with content is like “marketing with a magnet instead of a
sledgehammer”: in other words, content marketing will get people to
come to you instead of you going to them.
In simplest terms, Content Marketing will help you to build relationships
at scale.
You need to produce content that is valued by your target audience and
engages them. By doing this consistently, you will educate and convert
your audience into candidates and clients. Like a conversation, content
will start to make people aware your business, your services, what you
can offer and how you can change their current situation. Engaging with
your content can be the first step your candidates take before making an
application to one of your positions, or could be the nudge that gets a
prospective client to start working with you.
We feel your pain.
The challenge is that recruitment
agencies tend to be pretty lean
organisations who often do
not have in-house marketing
specialists. How do time poor
recruitment consultants build
an effective content marketing
strategy? Read on.

Step 1: Plan
Define your audience and build a content calendar
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 5
Set goals
Imagine you were made captain of an ocean racing
yacht. If you have no idea where you are supposed to
get to, your decisions will be aimless and you could end
up anywhere. Goal setting is the same. If you are not
clear about where you are trying to get to, you will have
no clear direction or focus for your energies, and it will
be partly a matter of luck as to where you end up and
what you achieve along the way.
Write down your goals or objectives. You must have at
least one overarching, tangible goal.
Brand awareness or reinforcement: Looking for a more
effective way than advertising to create awareness for your
services.
Lead conversion and nurturing: How you define conversion
will vary greatly. This could include signing up for an event;
signing up for your newsletter; or, in the case of LinkedIn,
getting them to become Followers. Once you have the
person’s ‘permission’, you can market to them to move them
through the buying cycle.
Customer conversion: The proof points to the sale. Show why
your services are better or will uniquely meet his or her needs.
Customer service: Create value to reinforce the customer’s
and candidate’s decision after you have placed them. How
can candidates or clients get the most out of your services.
Customer loyalty and retention: Build on existing
relationships and turn clients and candidates into loyal
customers.
Customer upsell: Use content to extend the relationship into
other services you may offer.
Examples of goals for content marketing:
Step 1: Plan

Define your
audience
Before you start creating content, it’s important to
know who your target audience is. Are you trying to
attract engineers or marketers? Talent acquisition
leaders or HR directors? Or experienced recruiting
consultants? Depending on your goals and target
audience, you’ll want to tailor your content to reach
the right audience for maximum impact.
A great way to understand what would appeal to
your audience is to invest time into building their
hypothetical personas. On the right, you can see
an example of the personas an average talent
acquisition organization could target.

Step 1: Plan
Developing a content plan
Next, it’s important to develop a content plan to help you stay organized and assure that you will
post frequently enough to stay top of mind for your audience. The most powerful tool here for you
is the content calendar.
Developing a good calendar will not only help you visualize the amount and type of content you
post, it will also make it easy to assign team members and pick outlets for publishing your posts.
Here is an example of one way to organize your content in a calendar:

Step 1: Plan
Segment + profile your audience
Figure out what will capture their attention.
What is that person interested in? What does
that person care about? What else are they
doing online?
Create videos, interview your people or industry
experts, share information from events, write
blog posts and e-books on the state of jobs in
your industry, create salary surveys. Put this
content in the right places.
Position your business as an expert, authority
and place to go for any information or guidance
in their space. Be relevant, be authentic and be
personable.
Profile Interests
Channel Message
The best, proven way to get to know your audience is to profile them. Understand and incorporate
the right facets of your audience through realistic and solid profiles that details their background,
their online presence, their name and picture. Create profiles or ‘personas’ that typify your different
priority candidates, clients or consultants. Aim for about 4-6. Create your content plans and your
content with these personas in mind and then channel the content to the right place. Relay a strong
message that is relevant, authentic and personable.
Who is your ideal candidate / client? Create a
profile of that person. What is their background?
What defines them? Where are they online? Give
them a name and a picture – make them real!

Step 2: Develop your content
Curating and creating
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 10
Curate content
There are two ways to source content: curate it or
create it.
Curating existing content allows you to leverage
materials that are already live and is an excellent
way to get started. For example, you could
share an interesting news article, an industry
presentation, or thought leader blog post.
Even well-resourced organizations rely on great
content they didn’t create themselves. In fact, 42%
of HP’s content in May of 2014 came from external
sources.* The company pulled from a wide range
of outlets: from international news organizations
such as Time, to industry publications such as
Computerworld, to blogs on platforms such as
Dice and LinkedIn.
Experiment with different formats and topics, and
see what works. Then demonstrate your success
to get the resources you need in order to create
more original content.

Step 2: Develop your content
Where can you find
great content?
There are a myriad of amazing places on the web you can subscribe
to in order to source great content. A few excellent resources:
LinkedIn Pulse – You can subscribe to news by topic or
industry… and, of course, it is easy to share.
Google Alerts – Set your topic and alert frequency
and Google will scour the web for relevant articles.

Twitter #tags – Setup #tags for your niche
topics of interest.
Followerwonk – Great for locating thought
leaders in any given niche who you can follow.
Buzzsumo – It highlights trending content
and influencers – specifically with the content
marketer in mind.

Step 2: Develop your content
Create content
While curating is the fastest way to get started with content marketing for talent acquisition,
creating your own original content enables you to be in complete control of what’s
communicated and how. Here are a few tips to remember as you start producing your own
content (blog posts, videos, presentations).
Be conversational
Write like you speak.
Keep it simple,
direct, and friendly.
Keep it short
The longer your
content, the harder it
is to process.
Be visual
Whether it’s a case
study, a status
update, or a blog
post, bring your
content to life with
bold and relevant
images and videos.

News: Share industry, company, or product information.
LinkedIn Pulse, Google Alerts, and Alltop.com are great
sources to track external news.
Step 2: Develop your content
Tip: Keep in mind candidates are increasingly accessing your content on mobile devices. Use images, short-form
video and short text updates to get the most traction.
Job opportunities

Innovative Job Marketing
Job postings are no longer just a piece of information about the job requesting interested
candidates to come aboard. If you want to stand out and make your presence felt, you need to
implement innovative job marketing strategies. Adding innovation to your usual job posting
can guarantee you a successful response rate.
Step 2: Develop your content
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 16
Images
Photos showcase your company culture, values, and brand. They are a great way to capture the
viewer’s attention on social media and can drastically increase engagement with your posts. Use
pictures that have inspirational quotes, show off your employees in action, or interesting moments
from your offices.
Step 2: Develop your content

Infographics
Infographics are a great way to make data-heavy stories easy to understand. For example,
you can see below how salesforce.com used an infographic to convey some of the interesting
benefits the company offers. Of course, you can also create infographics about broader work
topics, like the ones Hays Atlassian have published.
Step 2: Develop your content
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 18
People buy from people
Recruitment is a service industry built on engagement and relationships. Do not hide behind
artifices and stock images. Let your people come to the fore and let the personality of your brand
and your people shine. So, it is important to showcase your workforce by introducing the team and
highlighting the best moments, cultural activities, success stories, etc.

Key messages via leadership
Your leaders can promote their agenda via long form posts that are then pushed out to the company’s
followers and further afield via Sponsored Updates. There are so many things you could do with this model:
One agency that specialises in mining has been keen to entrench their credentials as diversity experts. Their
research told them that diversity is a hot topic in the boardrooms of leading mining companies. Their leaders
and thought leaders have posted a series of long form posts on diversity issues in mining which they then
target to senior execs in the mining industry. Brilliant!
This is also a great way to create transparency and build credibility for your leaders.
Here, Sean Garvey, the
Managing Director of Ocean’s
Group, is running a series
of interviews with business
leaders and writing them up
using LinkedIn’s long form
posting infrastructure. The
interviews establish Ocean
Group’s credentials in the
Executive search space.

01 Post at peak activity times
Users are active at varying times of the day on each social
network, so keep the peak times in mind to maximize the
impact of your posts.
02 Post frequently
Start with a few times per week, and work up to once or
several times per business day, depending on the platform.
If you are stretched for resources, consistently posting
relevant content once a week to your followers is better than
nothing. You can even repeat content, just be sure to change
up the wording so it’s not a verbatim copy.
03 Lead with a catchy first line
The first line of your status update draws the audience in --
make it eye-catching. If you’re stuck, cite a key statistic
or quote. For example, “Wow - only 28% of Americans age
18-25 will have access to heath insurance,” is better than
“Read this article on new healthcare legislation.”
04 Be responsive
Respond to comments and questions. You will earn trust if
you are thoughtful and approachable: people look for those
qualities in an employer.
05 Reciprocate
Share, comment and like other people’s content and they in
turn will be more likely to interact with your posts.

Step 3: Share your content

Your Company Status Updates
Company Status Updates are a highly effective way to nurture relationships with your followers
on LinkedIn. When you post an update from your Company Page, it appears on their LinkedIn
feed. Encourage followers to like, comment on and share your post – it will amplify your content
throughout the LinkedIn ecosystem.
Step 3: Share your content
Get targeted. When you post a status update, you can
target it to followers using criteria like job function, seniority
and geography. Since 79% of followers are interested in job
opportunities from companies they’re following, this is a great
way to target your opens reqs to the right audiences.
Use videos and other rich media. Status updates with
links to Youtube videos result in a 75% higher share rate. No
videos? Try SlideShare, PDFs, photos and links: posts with an
image enjoy a 98% higher comment rate.
Consider your audience. Your status updates can reach
candidates, existing clients, and potential clients across
each of your business units or specialities. Create a content
calender to ensure you’re speaking to each audience
regularly - and don’t forget to target your posts.
Leverage existing content streams. Use successful blog
posts, articles and news from your other social platforms to
create a high-quality stream of updates. On LinkedIn, you’ll
find ready made, share-worthy content from Influencers, on
Pulse, and in Groups.
Mix it up. To keep followers engaged, rotate your content
themes regularly. For every post promoting your firm, make
sure four posts focus on thought leadership or industry
trends.
Here are our favourite tips for creating an engaging Company Status Update:
Bonus tip : Visit the Analytics tab on your
Company Page to understand how LinkedIn
members are engaging with your updates.
Use the data on what’s performing well to tailor
your content and increase your impact.

Step 4: Amplify
How to increase engagement with your content
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 30
Inform them about your content marketing
efforts and how they play a key role as ‘brand
ambassadors’.
Ask them to follow your company pages on
LinkedIn.
Encourage them to like, share and comment
on the content you post. Send them pre-scripted
status updates so it’s easy.
Promote any relevant content they are already
creating themselves.
Identify brand champions – recognize that not
everyone will be as enthusiastic as you.
Get leadership buy-in and get executives to
promote your content. Make sure they lead by
example.
Step 4: Amplify
Ask your employees to
share
Your employees are an extension of your brand and
your best advocates. You should account for that
and regularly ask them to share important company
updates and high-quality content. This way their
networks will be exposed to your message. Here are
a few more pointers:

Step 4: Amplify
Organic

Organic: Your Followers and connections will see your
content.
Earned: They may spread this further through social
amplification if the content is relevant and engaging.
Paid: To reach a wider audience, or to push your message

How far do you reach?
If you’re already doing a great job of engaging your
Follower population, now you can target and build
relationships with top talent outside of your Followers
as well, at the scale of the LinkedIn network.
Sponsored Updates come into the feed of targeted
members on the desktop and mobile. Due to the
targeted relevancy, they generate 10x more clicks
than display advertising.

Step 5: Measure and adjust
How to know if your content marketing is working
5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 33
How to know if your content
marketing is working
Monitor the following metrics to better understand the impact of your efforts:
Why it mattersMetric
Follower growth Followers are correlated with interest in your brand and are a valuable asset to any recruitment agency from a
candidate, client and consultant perspective.
On LinkedIn, 70% of your Company Page followers are interested in job opportunities with your company, so
growing your follower base is an effective way to broaden your talent pools.
Impressions A measure of the number of times your update is seen by a member of the social media platform. Each time
an update displays in the newsfeed it is counted as one impression.
Engagement
(Likes, comments,
shares)
Engagement is calculated as clicks to your update link, as well as likes/shares/comments/followers acquired,
divided by impressions.
Likes, shares and comments are also referred to as “social actions.”
Click-through rate Your click-through rate is clicks to your update link, divided by the number of impressions.
Step 5: Measure and adjust

Adjust your content
strategy based on
what’s working
As you focus your attention on the content success
metrics, don’t forget to do more of what’s working
well and also be open to new ideas.
Experiment. Pay attention to what posts earn the
most views, likes, shares and comments. Similarly,
try to learn from the posts that didn’t do as well.
To experiment and see if you could improve, you
could even post the same content with a few
tweaks and a fresh headline a week later.
Get creative. Try new formats and topics.
6-second video testimonials from your
employees sounds like a great idea to us, but
we haven’t seen anyone do it…yet. Maybe you’ll
be the first!

Conclusion
This eBook is aimed to provide valuable insights to recruitment agencies, and we hope that it
has inspired you to use content to attract top talent or to take your existing content marketing
efforts to the next level. Remember that great content and social media are all about building
and engaging with a community. In turn, these online communities that you create are an
amazing source to recruit talent.
A few key concepts we want to leave with you:
Consider your audience and have a plan. Think about what your audience will care about the most and create a content
calendar to stay organized.
It’s ok to start small. Even a post a week is better than nothing.
Have fun. Content marketing is all about experimenting. Show your company’s personality. Try something different. Photos and
videos are always a great place to start.
Remember you don’t have to do it alone. Your employees are a wonderful source of content and can also be a
tremendous asset for promoting that content.

  • 3. Introduction For marketers, content is king. In the age of social media, marketers have become more like publishers, generating content that entertains or educates customers, rather than solely promoting products. Today content marketing is a hot topic and has become a central marketing approach for many recruitment agencies, both large and small. Good content can establish relationships with not only candidates but also customers, and enhance their perception of your agency brand. Providing information that helps candidates professionally, builds trust and positive feelings toward your company. Companies who post at least one status update per week on LinkedIn get 40% more views to their LinkedIn job postings and 25% more clicks. Good talent acquisition content marketing is: Native: it doesn’t stand out the way a glossy brochure or sleek commercial does. It’s a subtle way to warm up candidates, blending in with their daily information streams. Candidate-focused: what you share should add value to your audience and give them useful information. It should not be a one-way conversation about your brand. Authentic: it matches the tone and spirit of your culture. Off-brand content is worse than no content at all. Think educate, not sell. This eBook will show you how to create, share, and optimize content to support brand. Ready? Let’s go! What is agency brand? Your agency brand is a combination of several factors and works on different levels for candidates, clients and consultants. For candidates it serves as a reliable partner in job opportunities and career development; for clients, it’s a strategic partner of talent acquisition, which is an indispensable part of human resources strategy and empowers business growth; and for consultants it serves as a place to work. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 3
  • 4. Relationships at scale Why content marketing? Marketing with content is like “marketing with a magnet instead of a sledgehammer”: in other words, content marketing will get people to come to you instead of you going to them. In simplest terms, Content Marketing will help you to build relationships at scale. You need to produce content that is valued by your target audience and engages them. By doing this consistently, you will educate and convert your audience into candidates and clients. Like a conversation, content will start to make people aware your business, your services, what you can offer and how you can change their current situation. Engaging with your content can be the first step your candidates take before making an application to one of your positions, or could be the nudge that gets a prospective client to start working with you. We feel your pain. The challenge is that recruitment agencies tend to be pretty lean organisations who often do not have in-house marketing specialists. How do time poor recruitment consultants build an effective content marketing strategy? Read on. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 4
  • 5. Step 1: Plan Define your audience and build a content calendar 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 5
  • 6. Set goals Imagine you were made captain of an ocean racing yacht. If you have no idea where you are supposed to get to, your decisions will be aimless and you could end up anywhere. Goal setting is the same. If you are not clear about where you are trying to get to, you will have no clear direction or focus for your energies, and it will be partly a matter of luck as to where you end up and what you achieve along the way. Write down your goals or objectives. You must have at least one overarching, tangible goal. Brand awareness or reinforcement: Looking for a more effective way than advertising to create awareness for your services. Lead conversion and nurturing: How you define conversion will vary greatly. This could include signing up for an event; signing up for your newsletter; or, in the case of LinkedIn, getting them to become Followers. Once you have the person’s ‘permission’, you can market to them to move them through the buying cycle. Customer conversion: The proof points to the sale. Show why your services are better or will uniquely meet his or her needs. Customer service: Create value to reinforce the customer’s and candidate’s decision after you have placed them. How can candidates or clients get the most out of your services. Customer loyalty and retention: Build on existing relationships and turn clients and candidates into loyal customers. Customer upsell: Use content to extend the relationship into other services you may offer. • 7. Define your audience Before you start creating content, it’s important to know who your target audience is. Are you trying to attract engineers or marketers? Talent acquisition leaders or HR directors? Or experienced recruiting consultants? Depending on your goals and target audience, you’ll want to tailor your content to reach the right audience for maximum impact. A great way to understand what would appeal to your audience is to invest time into building their hypothetical personas. On the right, you can see an example of the personas an average talent acquisition organization could target. • 8. Step 1: Plan Developing a content plan Next, it’s important to develop a content plan to help you stay organized and assure that you will post frequently enough to stay top of mind for your audience. The most powerful tool here for you is the content calendar. Developing a good calendar will not only help you visualize the amount and type of content you post, it will also make it easy to assign team members and pick outlets for publishing your posts. Here is an example of one way to organize your content in a calendar: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Status Update We couldn’t be more excited to announce this... (insert APAC bit.ly) HOT JOB: Do you love to be challenged by your amazing peers and clients every day? Look no further for the perfect career move! Developing apps without being able to test changes to your code in real time is painful. Check out these tips on how to alleviate the pain: link Inviting talent acquisition leaders to a business meeting to discuss about talent trends and provide updates on a periodical basis. • 9. Step 1: Plan Segment + profile your audience Figure out what will capture their attention. What is that person interested in? What does that person care about? What else are they doing online? Create videos, interview your people or industry experts, share information from events, write blog posts and e-books on the state of jobs in your industry, create salary surveys. Put this content in the right places. Position your business as an expert, authority and place to go for any information or guidance in their space. Be relevant, be authentic and be personable. Profile Interests Channel Message The best, proven way to get to know your audience is to profile them. Understand and incorporate the right facets of your audience through realistic and solid profiles that details their background, their online presence, their name and picture. Create profiles or ‘personas’ that typify your different priority candidates, clients or consultants. Aim for about 4-6. Create your content plans and your content with these personas in mind and then channel the content to the right place. Relay a strong message that is relevant, authentic and personable. Who is your ideal candidate / client? Create a profile of that person. What is their background? What defines them? Where are they online? Give them a name and a picture – make them real! 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 9
  • 10. Step 2: Develop your content Curating and creating 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 10
  • 11. Curate content There are two ways to source content: curate it or create it. Curating existing content allows you to leverage materials that are already live and is an excellent way to get started. For example, you could share an interesting news article, an industry presentation, or thought leader blog post. Even well-resourced organizations rely on great content they didn’t create themselves. In fact, 42% of HP’s content in May of 2014 came from external sources.* The company pulled from a wide range of outlets: from international news organizations such as Time, to industry publications such as Computerworld, to blogs on platforms such as Dice and LinkedIn. Experiment with different formats and topics, and see what works. Then demonstrate your success to get the resources you need in order to create more original content. Step 2: Develop your content 40% 25% 20% Thought leadership/industry news Talent brand Company/product news 10% Event promotion 5% Just for fun * Source: Status Updates Done Right: HP’s Terrific Example Suggested content mix for you to curate/create: 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 11
  • 12. Step 2: Develop your content Where can you find great content? There are a myriad of amazing places on the web you can subscribe to in order to source great content. A few excellent resources: LinkedIn Pulse – You can subscribe to news by topic or industry… and, of course, it is easy to share. Google Alerts – Set your topic and alert frequency and Google will scour the web for relevant articles. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 12
  • 13. Twitter #tags – Setup #tags for your niche topics of interest. Followerwonk – Great for locating thought leaders in any given niche who you can follow. Buzzsumo – It highlights trending content and influencers – specifically with the content marketer in mind. Step 2: Develop your content Where can you find great content? 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 13
  • 14. Step 2: Develop your content Create content While curating is the fastest way to get started with content marketing for talent acquisition, creating your own original content enables you to be in complete control of what’s communicated and how. Here are a few tips to remember as you start producing your own content (blog posts, videos, presentations). Be conversational Write like you speak. Keep it simple, direct, and friendly. Keep it short The longer your content, the harder it is to process. Be visual Whether it’s a case study, a status update, or a blog post, bring your content to life with bold and relevant images and videos. Offer snackable tips Readers love easily digestible Top 10 lists, bullet points, and clear tips. Make your content easy to scan. Include a call to action At the end, always ask your audience a question to provoke comments or include a call to action. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 14
  • 15. Engage your audience with these content types and key topics Whether you decide to create or curate content, here are a few different formats and topics you should consider. Types of content to curate/create Blog posts Infographics eBooks White papers Case studies Testimonials/quotes Webinars News articles Press releases Newsletters Photos Videos Presentations Live events Key topics Thought leadership tips and insights: Hook your audience with content that appeals to their professional interests and aspirations. The more relevant your message, the greater its impact. News: Share industry, company, or product information. LinkedIn Pulse, Google Alerts, and Alltop.com are great sources to track external news. Step 2: Develop your content Tip: Keep in mind candidates are increasingly accessing your content on mobile devices. Use images, short-form video and short text updates to get the most traction. Job opportunities 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 15
  • 16. Innovative Job Marketing Job postings are no longer just a piece of information about the job requesting interested candidates to come aboard. If you want to stand out and make your presence felt, you need to implement innovative job marketing strategies. Adding innovation to your usual job posting can guarantee you a successful response rate. Step 2: Develop your content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 16
  • 17. Images Photos showcase your company culture, values, and brand. They are a great way to capture the viewer’s attention on social media and can drastically increase engagement with your posts. Use pictures that have inspirational quotes, show off your employees in action, or interesting moments from your offices. Step 2: Develop your content Companies use colorful images to increase engagement with their content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 17
  • 18. Infographics Infographics are a great way to make data-heavy stories easy to understand. For example, you can see below how salesforce.com used an infographic to convey some of the interesting benefits the company offers. Of course, you can also create infographics about broader work topics, like the ones Hays Atlassian have published. Step 2: Develop your content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 18
  • 19. People buy from people Recruitment is a service industry built on engagement and relationships. Do not hide behind artifices and stock images. Let your people come to the fore and let the personality of your brand and your people shine. So, it is important to showcase your workforce by introducing the team and highlighting the best moments, cultural activities, success stories, etc. Step 2: Develop your content Great way to introduce the team with a strong image Introduce new team members 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 19
  • 20. People buy from people Step 2: Develop your content Celebrate success Culture 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 20
  • 21. Showcase events Position your company as an energetic thought leader. Take photos at your events - iPhone snaps are fine - and say thank you to everyone who attended. Step 2: Develop your content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 21
  • 22. Humour Use humour that is consistent with your brand! People have always been attracted to wit – use it selectively to position your brand as approachable, fun and clever. Step 2: Develop your content Humour, images and an understanding of the market 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 22
  • 23. Step 2: Develop your content Key messages via leadership Your leaders can promote their agenda via long form posts that are then pushed out to the company’s followers and further afield via Sponsored Updates. There are so many things you could do with this model: One agency that specialises in mining has been keen to entrench their credentials as diversity experts. Their research told them that diversity is a hot topic in the boardrooms of leading mining companies. Their leaders and thought leaders have posted a series of long form posts on diversity issues in mining which they then target to senior execs in the mining industry. Brilliant! This is also a great way to create transparency and build credibility for your leaders. Here, Sean Garvey, the Managing Director of Ocean’s Group, is running a series of interviews with business leaders and writing them up using LinkedIn’s long form posting infrastructure. The interviews establish Ocean Group’s credentials in the Executive search space. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 23
  • 24. Step 3: Share your content Where, when and how to publish 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 24
  • 25. What works Considerations Peak activity Suggested frequencyPlatform Chatty content that shows your company’s informal side e.g. wacky photos from the holiday party. Highly visual content and things like infographics tend to do very well. Social, not professional network – most people choose not to mix social and professional identities. 6-8am 1-4pm Start with 2-3 times/ week. Work up to once per day. Short, conversational updates. Re-tweets can increase trust and credibility as a recruiter and show that you are engaging with other people vs. only promoting your company. Less professional focus and more news, entertainment- oriented; 140-character limit and short life-span due to high post volume. 1-3pm Tue and Wed, 24hrs/day 2-5 times per day. Step 3: Share your content Content that showcases your brand, as well as anything that educates readers on your company, industry, and professional development topics like leadership. Videos, images/quotes, and thought leadership-oriented blog posts tend to do well. Professional-oriented social network, so photos from your family vacation are better utilized elsewhere. 7-9am 5-6pm Start with 2-3 times/ week. Work up to once per day. Where, when and how to publish Generating quality content is only half the battle: getting it in front of the right audience is equally important. Here’s a summary of the key social media channels you can use to distribute your content. If you have a great piece of content, promote it everywhere that makes sense. But remember, don’t post on a platform if you can’t spend the time to manage it. Professional content – presentations, whitepapers and infographics. Can be embedded on your company blog, webpage or LinkedIn page. Growing a following takes time. Best used in conjunction with LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or embed in a blog. 2-3 a month. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 25
  • 26. What works Considerations Peak activity Suggested frequencyPlatform Showing real employees or customers telling their stories. Really good videos could go viral and extend your brand reach. Can be very resource-intensive to produce video. May require outside help. 2 a month or more if you have the resources. Images, graphics and charts. Be highly visual and focus on lifestyle content. Not a professional platform. Limited demographics (mainly women 18-34 years old). 2-4pm 8pm-1am Technology or science-related articles, blog posts, infographics, videos and papers. The audience here is likely very techy, so keep that in mind when developing your content strategy. 9-11am Step 3: Share your content Where, when and how to publish (Continued) 12-1pm A few times a week. A few times a week to once a day. Rich imagery and short videos. Share photos or videos of your team hard at work (and at play) or of your offices. In order to stand out, you have to use high-quality photographs and vary the content. Daytime 2-3 times a week. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 26
  • 27. 01 Post at peak activity times Users are active at varying times of the day on each social network, so keep the peak times in mind to maximize the impact of your posts. 02 Post frequently Start with a few times per week, and work up to once or several times per business day, depending on the platform. If you are stretched for resources, consistently posting relevant content once a week to your followers is better than nothing. You can even repeat content, just be sure to change up the wording so it’s not a verbatim copy. 03 Lead with a catchy first line The first line of your status update draws the audience in -- make it eye-catching. If you’re stuck, cite a key statistic or quote. For example, “Wow - only 28% of Americans age 18-25 will have access to heath insurance,” is better than “Read this article on new healthcare legislation.” 04 Be responsive Respond to comments and questions. You will earn trust if you are thoughtful and approachable: people look for those qualities in an employer. 05 Reciprocate Share, comment and like other people’s content and they in turn will be more likely to interact with your posts. 5 tips for sharing content on social media Step 3: Share your content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 27
  • 28. Stats to keep in mind for an irresistible status update Including a link can drive twice the engagement compared to posts without links. Posts with images generate 98% higher comment rate than posts without. Links to YouTube videos can play directly in your social media feed and generate 75% higher share rate. • 29. Your Company Status Updates Company Status Updates are a highly effective way to nurture relationships with your followers on LinkedIn. When you post an update from your Company Page, it appears on their LinkedIn feed. Encourage followers to like, comment on and share your post – it will amplify your content throughout the LinkedIn ecosystem. Step 3: Share your content Get targeted. When you post a status update, you can target it to followers using criteria like job function, seniority and geography. Since 79% of followers are interested in job opportunities from companies they’re following, this is a great way to target your opens reqs to the right audiences. Use videos and other rich media. Status updates with links to Youtube videos result in a 75% higher share rate. No videos? Try SlideShare, PDFs, photos and links: posts with an image enjoy a 98% higher comment rate. Consider your audience. Your status updates can reach candidates, existing clients, and potential clients across each of your business units or specialities. Create a content calender to ensure you’re speaking to each audience regularly - and don’t forget to target your posts. Leverage existing content streams. Use successful blog posts, articles and news from your other social platforms to create a high-quality stream of updates. On LinkedIn, you’ll find ready made, share-worthy content from Influencers, on Pulse, and in Groups. Mix it up. To keep followers engaged, rotate your content themes regularly. For every post promoting your firm, make sure four posts focus on thought leadership or industry trends. Here are our favourite tips for creating an engaging Company Status Update: Bonus tip : Visit the Analytics tab on your Company Page to understand how LinkedIn members are engaging with your updates. Use the data on what’s performing well to tailor your content and increase your impact. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 29
  • 30. Step 4: Amplify How to increase engagement with your content 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 30
  • 31. Inform them about your content marketing efforts and how they play a key role as ‘brand ambassadors’. Ask them to follow your company pages on LinkedIn. Encourage them to like, share and comment on the content you post. Send them pre-scripted status updates so it’s easy. Promote any relevant content they are already creating themselves. Identify brand champions – recognize that not everyone will be as enthusiastic as you. Get leadership buy-in and get executives to promote your content. Make sure they lead by example. Step 4: Amplify Ask your employees to share Your employees are an extension of your brand and your best advocates. You should account for that and regularly ask them to share important company updates and high-quality content. This way their networks will be exposed to your message. Here are a few more pointers: 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 31
  • 32. Sponsor your best content to extend reach Step 4: Amplify Organic Earned Paid Organic: Your Followers and connections will see your content. Earned: They may spread this further through social amplification if the content is relevant and engaging. Paid: To reach a wider audience, or to push your message out at scale quickly consider advertising How far do you reach? If you’re already doing a great job of engaging your Follower population, now you can target and build relationships with top talent outside of your Followers as well, at the scale of the LinkedIn network. Sponsored Updates come into the feed of targeted members on the desktop and mobile. Due to the targeted relevancy, they generate 10x more clicks than display advertising. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 32
  • 33. Step 5: Measure and adjust How to know if your content marketing is working 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 33
  • 34. How to know if your content marketing is working Monitor the following metrics to better understand the impact of your efforts: Why it mattersMetric Follower growth Followers are correlated with interest in your brand and are a valuable asset to any recruitment agency from a candidate, client and consultant perspective. On LinkedIn, 70% of your Company Page followers are interested in job opportunities with your company, so growing your follower base is an effective way to broaden your talent pools. Impressions A measure of the number of times your update is seen by a member of the social media platform. Each time an update displays in the newsfeed it is counted as one impression. Engagement (Likes, comments, shares) Engagement is calculated as clicks to your update link, as well as likes/shares/comments/followers acquired, divided by impressions. Likes, shares and comments are also referred to as “social actions.” Click-through rate Your click-through rate is clicks to your update link, divided by the number of impressions. Step 5: Measure and adjust * Source: Jan 2012 LinkedIn Followers Report, based on a survey of 623 LinkedIn members in the U.S. 5 Steps to Boosting Recruitment Agency’s Brand Through Content 34
  • 35. Adjust your content strategy based on what’s working As you focus your attention on the content success metrics, don’t forget to do more of what’s working well and also be open to new ideas. Experiment. Pay attention to what posts earn the most views, likes, shares and comments. Similarly, try to learn from the posts that didn’t do as well. To experiment and see if you could improve, you could even post the same content with a few tweaks and a fresh headline a week later. Get creative. Try new formats and topics. 6-second video testimonials from your employees sounds like a great idea to us, but we haven’t seen anyone do it…yet. Maybe you’ll be the first!
