Airside Ramp Operations
Marshalling Procedure
All Operating Bay are to comply with Safe Marshalling Procedure and Hand Signal specified and
illustrated. Reference, IAW IATA (AHM) Airside Safety (Ramp Operation) ICAO Annex 2 – Rules of
the Air
Marshalling Signal from a Marshaller to an Aircraft

and move wands up and

5. Stop Signal 1 Normal Stop -Fully extend
arms and wands at a 90-degree
angle to
Sides and slowly move to
above head until wands cross.

2 Emergency Stop- Abruptly
extend arms and wands to top
of head, crossing
Wands.

APPLY ONLY ON EMERGENCY
6. Set Brakes Raise hand just above shoulder
height with open palm.
Ensuring eye contact with flight
crew, close hand into a
fist. Do not move until receipt
of “thumbs up”

crew.

7. Chock Inserted With arms and wands fully
extended above head, move
wands inward in a “jabbing”
motion until wands touch.
Ensure acknowledgement is
received from flight crew.

downwards in a “patting”
gesture,
moving wands up and down
from waist to knees.

move hand and wand to top of
left shoulder and draw
wand to top of right shoulder in
a slicing motion across

in a fist. Ensuring eye contact
with flight crew, open
palm. Do not move until receipt
of “thumbs up”

left arm remains at side
by knee.

Note: These are a few common Example of Hand Signal endorsed by ICAO & IATA.
i. ICAO recommended that the Marshallers Hands be “Illuminated as necessary” to be visible
to the pilot.
ii. IATA Require that the Marshaller wear a distinctive identification vest and use fluorescent
coloured gloves, wands during the day and illuminated wands at night or Low visibility.
iii. ANG Airside Operations - Safety recommend, Marshaller must be in vest and carry out
both Hand and wands/Bats signal.
