SDN Demonstration at TNC 2014 SDN Demonstration at TNC 2014 Document Transcript

  • SDN-Enabled Colorless Directionless ROADM Network Description ADVA Optical Networking demonstrates together with HEAnet, i2CAT and Eurotek a 4K video service orchestration over an SDN-enabled colorless direction- less ROADM network using OpenNaaS as Orchestration Platform, OpenDaylight as open source client SDN controller, and an multi-tenant capable Optical Network Hypervisor (ONH) to abstract and virtualize the optical infrastructure. Live Demonstration – daily from 12:30 to 14:00 Content of the Demonstration • End-to-end orchestration of 4K video services and optical network connectivity services from data centers across the WAN to enterprises • Optical network virtualization with multi-tenant capabilities • Full integration with commercial network management and control plane solution • Open, API-driven solution supporting OpenFlow SDN controller as clients • Application-driven enterprise to data center service orchestration and optical connectivity calendaring • Software components: Optical Network Hypervisor, OpenDaylight, OpenNaaS • Hardware components: 3 node colorless, directionless ROADM ring • Participating companies: HEAnet, i2CAT, Eurotek, ADVA Optical Networking
  • The work presented in the demonstration is co-financed by FP7 EU-Japan project STRAUSS (GA 608528, 2014~2016) and by the European Regional Development Fund under the Innovative Economy Operational Programme. Background Information ADVA Optical Network Hypervisor is a multi-tenant capable application that creates and exposes abstract representations of the underlying transport network and exports that abstracted network to client SDN controllers. An abstracted network can be exposed as a single node or multiple nodes with abstract links. From the perspective of the exposed SDN interface the Network Hypervisor acts as one or more (virtual) nodes. The OpenDaylight Project is a collaborative open source project hosted by The Linux Foundation. The goal of the project is to accelerate the adoption of software-defined networking (SDN) and create a solid foundation for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). OpenDaylight is an open source project with a modular, pluggable, and flexible SDN controller platform at its core. This controller is implemented strictly in software and is contained within its own Java Virtual Machine (JVM). As such, it can be deployed on any hardware and operating system platform that supports Java. OpenNaaS is an open source platform for provisioning network resources. It allows the deployment and automated configuration of dynamic network infra- structures and defines a vendor-independent interface to access services provided by these resources. OpenNaaS provides support for a variety of resources such as optical switches, routers, IP networks and BoD- domains, but, more importantly, it is easy to add new resources and their capabilities as an extension.
