3. Paper 1 Writing
Marks 60; weightage 50%; answer 2 questions, I hour 30 minutes
● Section 1: Directed Writing (30 marks) (15 marks task fulfilment+15 marks
for language.)
● 1 compulsory writing task. Answer in 200–300 words.
● Section 2: Composition (30 marks)
● 1 writing task from a choice of five essays (1 descriptive essay/ 2
argumentative essays /2 narrative essays titles. Answer in 350–500 words.

+10 summary +3 short answers)
Candidates scan a factual text and identify key points.
● use notes to write a summary of 150–180 words.
● Answer questions to identify examples of a function (opinions, advice, criticism
or warnings).
● Section 2: Reading for Meaning (25 marks)
● Candidates respond to questions about one narrative passage. MCQs
● Both passages in Paper 2 will be approximately 700 words each. 7
