Have you lost your WiFi antenna? Most WiFi NIC antennas can be removed and are
therefore easily lost. In fact, with just a few household items, you can make a practical
WiFi antenna as a replacement, enough to support the day you buy a new antenna. If
the wireless network is not wide enough, you can also make a directional antenna to
expand the effective range of the wireless network.
Make a paper clip antenna
1. Prepare the materials and tools.
big paper clip, used old ballpoint pen, electrical tape. straight ruler, scissors, lighter.
2. Straighten the paper clip. Unfold the paper clip and straighten it into a straight shape.
3. Measure and cut the paper clip. For the best signal, the paper clip length as close as
61 mm, only this is the way to make the most efficient Wifi antenna.
4. Bend the paper clip. You need to bend the paper clip at approx. 19 mm to form a 90°
right angle. This part of the paper clip will be inserted into the WiFi antenna in the port.
5. Remove the ballpoint pen refill. You'd better use an abandoned ballpoint pen because
you need to cut the refill. Cut the refill into a length of 12-18 mm. Due to there may be
ink in the refill, so cut the refill away from yourself. When cutting, you can place the
refill on a flat surface to prevent ink from splashing on your body.
6. Place the refill over the bent portion of the paper clip. Place the refilled part of the
refill over the bent corner of the paper clip. Make sure the cartridge is approx. 1.5 mm
beyond the end of the paper clip.
7. Use a lighter to shrink the refill. Use a lighter or other heat source to carefully heat
the refill on the paper clip. This will cause the refill to shrink so that it fits tightly over
the paper clip
8. Insulate the antenna. Wind electrical tape around the paper clip to prevent
interference from wireless signals.
9. Insert the paper clip into the antenna port. Insert the “refill” of the paper clip into the
antenna port to ensure that the interface pins are connected to the paper clip inside the
cartridge. Such as if you can make them overlap, then the received signal will be better.
