2. U(universal)
Universal films are suitable for people over the age of 4.
Sexual content in U films are next to nothing with the actors
having a limit to hugging or kissing and no more. They do not
focus on sexual behaviour.
The language used in U films is very mild with the worst
language being used is hell or damn. It is very rare to see
words worse than that used but if it is it is something like
bloody. This language is seen as suitable for this age group.
In U films you might see brief fighting moments but they wont
last for long these are only see in a few moments when the
character is in danger.
3. U Rating
Looking at these facts about U films I can see that the U rating is not
suitable for my film.
Drugs are not shown in U films and are not allowed to be as it is not seen
as suitable if there are any drug references it will be things like antibiotics so
medical drugs.
4. PG (parental Guidance)
PG films Should suit children over the age of 8 as it
should not disturb them with films lie home alone being
a PG children under the age of 8 could be disturbed by
the robbers.
PG doesn’t necessarily mean the film is targeted for
children around the age of 8+ some films are put a PG
due to the lack of language used and because the film
wont disturb kids around that age.
the language used in PG films normally isn't very strong
but there will be the odd S*** as long as it isn't used
often throughout the film.
5. PG
Pg films there are quite a few more references to sexual behaviour but it
isn't too bad. But this is only of the kids aren't going to understand this
reference that it can be put into these films.
Like sexual behaviour violence is also seen more often with there being a
few more fighting scenes and an example of this could be home alone with
there being a few moments of violence. There are scenes where blood is
shown but the it doesn’t normally show the injury where the blood is coming
from.
For a pg film drugs aren't shown and if they are they shouldn’t be
focused on or they should be anti drugs for educational purposes.
Looking at this I can see that my film doesn’t fit into the PG rating.
6. 12 A
12 a means anyone over the age of 12 is aloud to see the
film but for kids under the age of 12 they will have to be
accompanied by someone who is above the age of 18.
The 12a rating is only showed at cinemas on DVD’s it is
shown as 12
Any sex references in these films are brief and discreet. But
when talking about it , it still has to be language children
around this age group wont understand.
The language used in 12A’s can be seen as quite strong
with words such as S*** , T**T and B**** being used quite
often but words such as F*** are very rare to hear and if
you do hear it , it will only have been once. The reason for
this is that some language is still too strong to use for kids
to hear.
7. 12A
Violence can be seen very often in 12 a movies but there still cant be gore
or the injures shown, the fights will end up lasting a little longer though an
example of this would be Transformers which is a 12 A but is also mainly
based around fighting.
If there are drugs shown it must be discreet and not shown very often
Sexual violence can also be seen but if it is its not allowed to be too severe
or go into much detail.
Going of this my film would not fit into the 12 A rating.
8. 15
Films within the 15 rating can only been seen by people of the age of 15
and over or be purchased on dvd by them.
15 films are normally bombarded with swearing with words like F*** , S***
, B**** being used very often and deemed acceptable for this age category
and are used on a regular basis. But there are still a few words such as C***
which is thought to be too rude for 15’s and are only allowed in 18’s.
Sexual activity can be seen in 15 but most not be too graphic. Some nudity
and movement is allowed in 15’s and is seen as acceptable.
Violence is acceptable and can be strong with gore allowed to be used as
long as it isn't too bad also the injuries are allowed to be shown. Too much
gore is seen to be unacceptable for 15’s
9. 15
They allow verbal talk of sexual violence to be allowed or injures from after
what happened but any visual of the action happening is not allowed.
They don’t allow sexual violence into detail.
Drugs are allowed in 15 rated films as long as it doesn’t promote the use to
them for teenagers.
This raiting could be used for my film.
10. 18
This rating applies to people aged 18+ and this applies
to DVD’s too.
For language use for 18 rated films isn't limited and any
language can be used for example C*** ,F***, S*** these
are used very often throughout 18’s and are normally
used in an aggressive manor or when
frightened/startled. Also some use racist language.
18 films are allowed to show full nudity and also show
sex in a lot of detail.
Violence is showed alot in 18’s and allowing as much
gore as you want a film that took advantage of this was
saw. You see a lot of pain and injury's throughout the
film. Sexual violence can also be seen.
11. 18
The use of drugs normally play a big role in 18’s and are used often as long as
they aren't promoting the use of drugs to the audience.
I think that this certificate rating is best for my film because it allows a lot of gore
as it is a slasher film and gore is a convention of a slasher film. Also it will use a
lot of strong language so I feel this is the most appropriate rating for my film.
