Editor's Notes
Since the whole United States is producing 236 million tons of waste in a year, more than 8,900 recycling centers are going to be needed. (Berg & Hager, 2007)With 6 million residents in this part of Texas you would think that we would need more recycling centers than 6 just surrounding the Houston city limits.(N.A., 2012)
Researching is most important, must have the correct facts in the presentation. Then by presenting it first to the City council, then the State government, and then creating a bill to be passed by the House representatives and the Senate. That is the last step to take physically, now it is our of our hands as far as getting the law passed goes. We can also educate the public of the recycling problem and how bad our city could get if we do not start recycling instead of filling up landfills. (N.A., 2012)
In the city of Houston, there are six recycling centers at every corner of the city limits, but what about the massive suburbs of Houston: The Woodlands, Katy, Clear Lake, and Pearland? These cities do not have recycling pick up and I am sure this is the same case around a lot of major cities in the United States.First, would be to set up a presentation for the city council members and governor Rick Perry. Next, I would contact the city council, our governor, and our congressman to set up a presentation of how recycling centers could also benefit our suburbs and how the landfills in this area are disturbing. Last, creating a bill to be passed by the House representatives and the Senate would be the last step that I could take to making it a law that everyone must recycle. (N.A., 2012) If the legislator was against their own bill, it must be revised.
If the city and the state does not approve, that just means the presentation needs to be more educating. Then we will present to them until they do approve. If the Bill does not get passed, it will need to be revised, especially if our legislator did not approve. If the revised Bill does not get passed, we will continue to try, but in the meantime, continue to fill up landfill after landfill in the surrounding areas of Houston until there is no room. Maybe then the Bill will get passed.
