3. The R.A.D.I.S.H Project
GOAL:
Reclaiming the Heat and the CO2 lost through Flue
Gases and Redirect them for use in a Greenhouse.
SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL MISSION:
Exploring New Opportunities within Industrial
Complexes by Transforming Unused Areas into
Productive Green Spaces offering a variety of Home
Grown Crops for the Local Community.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS:
• Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an essential component of photosynthesis
• CO2 increases productivity through improved plant growth and vigour
• Ambient CO2 level in outside air is about 340 ppm by volume
• Most crops show that for any given level of photosynthetically active
radiation (PAR), increasing the CO2 level to 1,000 ppm will increase the
photosynthesis by about 50% over ambient CO2 levels
• Levels of 5,000 ppm can cause dizziness or lack of co-ordination to humans
• Excessive amounts of nitrous oxide (NOx and NO2) can cause diminished
growth or even necrosis
• CO2 supplementation is most effective during the period of active growth of
the plant, during the light period
• Greenhouse vegetables are usually grown in soilless media such as rockwool,
coconut fiber and pine and/or spruce sawdust because there is better
control of the total growing conditions compared to growing in the soil
• Heating may represent from 20-35% of total production cost
