AMI Data
 City of Oceanside Water Utilities (Utility) has implemented a LoRaWAN
network and is replacing all of the 44,000+ meters with AMI meters
 What used to be once-per-month consumption data has now become
hourly consumption data, equating to 720 data points per month
 AMI also provides continuous flow and backflow detection
 This data is not only utilized by the Utility but it is also available to the
customer on a daily basis

Using AMI hourly data to detect and resolve leakages
 Two areas associated with conservation:
 Customer water use / loss – mainly through robust customer education
and a Customer Engagement Platform (CEP)
 Utility water use / loss analysis – gets into using the data to identify loss

Customer Education and Customer Engagement Platform (CEP)
City of Oceanside is proactively educating and
engaging with the customer for water
conservation through WaterSmart Customer
Portal
 Sends automatic notifications for continuous
usage and burst leaks to customers via email,
text message and phone calls
 May 2022 sent 387 notifications
 Leak assistance directly in the portal
 Messages to customers through the portal
regarding current drought requirements

Utility water use / loss analysis
With the implementation of the AMI system, the Utility has seen the following
benefits of water conservation:
 In the replacement of old meters to AMI meters, the Utility has fixed city-side
infrastructure issues, such as leaky angle stops
 CSR’s are automatically notified of leaks and proactively reach out to customers
 Water use demand is provided on a daily basis so that water pressure strains do
not unduly cause breakages
 Detection of unauthorized water usage
 Monitoring of hourly or daily consumption to gauge water conservation goals

  • 4. 4 © 2021 E Source | Proprietary and confidential AMI Data  City of Oceanside Water Utilities (Utility) has implemented a LoRaWAN network and is replacing all of the 44,000+ meters with AMI meters  What used to be once-per-month consumption data has now become hourly consumption data, equating to 720 data points per month  AMI also provides continuous flow and backflow detection  This data is not only utilized by the Utility but it is also available to the customer on a daily basis

  • 6. 6 © 2021 E Source | Proprietary and confidential Customer Education and Customer Engagement Platform (CEP) City of Oceanside is proactively educating and engaging with the customer for water conservation through WaterSmart Customer Portal  Sends automatic notifications for continuous usage and burst leaks to customers via email, text message and phone calls  May 2022 sent 387 notifications  Leak assistance directly in the portal  Messages to customers through the portal regarding current drought requirements
  • 7. 7 © 2021 E Source | Proprietary and confidential Utility water use / loss analysis With the implementation of the AMI system, the Utility has seen the following benefits of water conservation:  In the replacement of old meters to AMI meters, the Utility has fixed city-side infrastructure issues, such as leaky angle stops  CSR’s are automatically notified of leaks and proactively reach out to customers  Water use demand is provided on a daily basis so that water pressure strains do not unduly cause breakages  Detection of unauthorized water usage  Monitoring of hourly or daily consumption to gauge water conservation goals
