Preliminary Task Evaluation
1.
2. How well did you plan your production
and what methods did you use?
0 We had roughly around two weeks to put together an
entire plan/overview of our production.
0 We started by laying out the building bricks for our
production, this is things such as when and where the
production of this media would take place. We used are
collective media knowledge to get things done quickly
and stay within the planning time given to us. This also
allowed us to put more time into the physical side of the
production; filming and editing.
3. What influenced your
choice of theme?
0 After finding out the preliminary task, we discussed as a
group how to set things into motion. We decided that
we best ought to start by figuring out what the plot of
our production was going to be and where it was going
to be set. We decided it would be about an undercover
investigator infiltrating a secret poker game by an
underground gambling ring. We also decided that we
would film in the college as this was easiest for all of us.
0 We always knew that the theme of our production was
going to be gambling, the issue was implementing this
theme into our plot.
4. Was this an effective method?
0 I feel that we were able to successfully carry out the
preliminary task as every member of our group was
able to contribute towards the final production by
putting their ideas forward. We had many group
discussions which gave us all a good number of
opportunities to do this. I feel that this method was
VERY effective as it allowed us to resolve any conflict
between us and I believe that it made every member of
the group feel as though they had done their part
towards the project.
5. How well did your product
meet the original proposal?
0 Our original proposal seemed feasible during the planning of
our project, but when it came to production of the project we
soon realised that due to the short amount of time given to
us some changes would have to be made. This lead to us
deciding to film the project in an open area instead of a
room in the college as this would take too much organising
as we are not all available at the same time, making this
challenging.
0 While our original proposal had the two main characters
dressed in black suits/smart wear, we decided to just wear
our own clothes as long as the colour was black.
0 Overall I feel that the product was as close to the original
proposal as it could be.
6. What meaning would you attach to
Camera Composition & Movement on
shots?
0 The word composition describes the placement of
relative objects and elements in a work of art. Because
of this, it is clear that camera composition is what is
currently in the lens and what is being captured.
0 Movement is the effect that panning and tilting have
on the shots. Panning is the rotation or pivot of a
motion picture or video camera horizontally from a
fixed position.
7. What meaning would you
attach to Mise en Scene?
0 Mise en scene translates to “everything in the scene”.
0 Mise en scene is:
- Setting & Props
- Costume, Hair & Make Up
- Facial Expressions and Body Language
- Lighting and Colour
- Positioning of characters/objects within the frame
8. What meaning would you attach to
Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sound?
0 Diegetic sound is any sound present within the film's
world. Diegetic sounds match what is being shown on
screen. For example, if a character on screen shoots a
gun, a diegetic sound of this would be the sound of the
gun shot.
0 On the other hand, Non-diegetic sound is sound that’s
not from within the film’s world. This can be things such
as background music and narrator commentary.
