civic actions that promote a better world and future.
(UNESCO, 2016)

• Challenges on the path to becoming a global citizen?
 Known Knowns
 Dealing with changes?
 The “anticipatory anxiety” that we experience in the midst of important life
changes can be emotionally paralyzing.
Accepting the change
 Recognize that changes will always
happen (it is inevitable and
essential)
 Expect internal resistance to
change but avoid being nervous
 Determine what you can and
cannot control
 You may not be in control of
the changes in life but you
are in control of your
response to those changes
1 2 3
4
 Analyse the situation.
 What has changed and how does it impact you?
 Develop coping strategies that are best suited to
deal with the circumstances.
5
 Be patient, not passive
 Patiently accept change while
at the same time actively
pursuing strategies to reorient
yourself to the new
circumstances
• Challenges on the path to becoming a global citizen?
 Known Knowns
 Dealing with changes?
Adjusting to change
 Give yourself time to change and
undergo the required psychological
metamorphosis.
 Focus on small, present things.
Take note of your progress and
your roadblocks
 Specify your strategies
 Accept failures and false starts
 Don’t judge yourself too harshly for slip-ups or
backslides; rather, keep yourself focused on the
positive steps you have made and will make next
 Avoid making decisions out
of fear.
 Try to address your fears
about the changes coming
your way rather than
avoiding them and seek
support where necessary.

 Increase your sense of control
in small ways
