3. • What is global citizenship?
It is a sense of belonging to a broader community, beyond national boundaries, that
emphasizes our common humanity and draws on the interconnectedness between
peoples as well as between the local and the global. Global citizenship is based on the
universal values of human rights, democracy, non-discrimination and diversity. It is about
civic actions that promote a better world and future.

A global Citizen is someone who:
is aware of the wider world and has a sense of their own role as a world citizen
respects and values diversity
has an understanding of how the world works
participates in the community at a range of levels, from the local to the global

Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to:
Recognize, understand and manage our own emotions.

Why is EI important? : Psychologists generally agree that among the ingredients for success, IQ
counts for roughly 10% (at best 25%); the rest depends on everything else — including EI.
