The Dynamic Continuum For Diversity And Multiculturalism
No school can trust effectively to teach today's youngsters without recognizing and grasping the
social pluralism of our various society. To this end, free school instructors must work to make
learning groups that energize and bolster assorted qualities of enrollment and multicultural curricula.
Such people group comprehend that one's individual viewpoint depends, to a limited extent, upon
one's area in society. Common understandings are multifaceted; they develop in groups that urge
people to convey their stories to the table.
A monocultural perspective of the world is a bending of reality. It fits partial perspectives and
encourages the atmosphere in which bigotry can grow. To be instructed with just a single point of

Religious Pluralism Essay
On July 12, 2007, for the first time in American history the Senate session that day was opened by a
prayer; unlike any other prayer, it was given by a Hindu priest. At first sight, it would seem as
though the ideals designed by the framers of the Constitution were alive and well; the pluralization
of the United States of America, the land of freedom of religion, and the right to worship without
persecution. However, the Christian right wing religious group Operation Save America entered the
Senate floor and began to heckle Rajan Zed, the Hindu priest, perpetuating that Hinduism is an
"abomination", as Hindus do not worship "The lord Jesus Christ". This leads us to ask the question:
Is America a land of religious pluralism, or is it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With 77% of all evangelical leaders holding an unfavorable view of Islam, still 93% of evangelicals

This survey reveals that the problem with the Islam faith is not racial: The Muslim people are
welcomed, the Islam faith is not. The violence that has been perpetrated against America, whether
executed or planned, has brought to fruition religious persecution not seen since the persecution of
the Jews in W.W.II. This "trust no Arab" attitude has brought shame to the Constitutional intentions
of freedom of religion intended by our forefathers, and has set religious tolerance back 200 years.
Looking at media representation of Muslim Americans prior to 9–11, it shows religious diversity in
America, depicting Muslim America as just another religious community seeking to advance and
protect their interests, not unlike other Americans. After 9–11 the media portrayed representations of
threat and fear, creating boundaries between Muslims and other Americans. Such depiction
transforms the identity of Muslims and American religious pluralism (Byng, M. pg. 3). The land of
pluralism has become a land of persecution for Muslim Americans. I cannot help but wonder how
the Constitutional framers would interpret the problems of today: The holy war we face, the

Pluralism And The Problem Of Religious Diversity
There exists a vast number of religions in the world that have their own belief systems and
populations of followers that, naturally, gives result to a wide variety of religious diversity.
Logically, the problem with this religious diversity is that it is hard to see how they could all be true
at any rate. In response to this problem, two solutions have been proposed: pluralism and
exclusivism. Pluralism makes a claim that all of the religions are true in their own way where
exclusivism, on the other hand, makes the claim that only one religion is true in its beliefs. I will be
discussing the differences between exclusivism and pluralism in depth as responses to the problem
of religious diversity as well as comparing and contrasting Christianity and Hinduism to make a
case for why exclusivism is the correct solution.
The first solution to the problem, pluralism, which is advocated by John Hick, offers that,
fundamentally, deep down, all of the religions are the same and so are all true in their own way.
Hick, in his work titled Who or What is God?, believes that the concept of God can be described as
anthropomorphic. That is, as Hick puts it, "God is a being like ourselves in the fundamental respect
that we are both – God and ourselves – persons. But whereas we are finite, created, dependent
persons, God is an infinite, eternal, uncreated and omnipotent Person." (Hick). He paints a picture of
who God is by saying "that God's inner nature is beyond the range of our human

Comparing Pluralist and Ruling Elite Accounts of Political Power in the U.K. and U.S.
Whilst there are not any absolutely accurate interpretations of political power and political system,
there are different controversial theories about those, among which, pluralist and ruling elite are the
two fundamentally outstanding theories that both have echoing practical influences in the modern
world of politics nowadays. In this essay, I shall try to attempt to briefly explain the two theories,
going further on from this, to mainly compare and contrast these theories, especially taking into
account the political power in the UK and US where modern democratic societies are claimed to
exist and government is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrasting with pluralism, the theory of ruling elite suggests that government can and should be
controlled by a small elite, as mobilising and communicating within a small group is far simplier
and easier than that of the mass body. It can be seen as a minority which governs in its own interest
and is unaccountable to the majority. It is defined by the possession of three characteristics:
consciousness, coherence and conspiracy. Consciousness refers to the awareness of common
interests, coherence means that it shares a common interest and conspiracy describes the capacity to
act collectively. Ancient Greek philosopher Plato (427 – 347 BC.) argued that an intelligent elite,
whom he styled 'Philosoher–Kings', should government. In addition, the elitists shared a common
sceptical view that democratic government is impossible and might be undesirable. They do not
believe many interests are represented as political institutions rarely serve their formally stated
purposes and instead represent whom they wish.
Today there are pluralist influences as well as pluralist essences in both the US and UK politics.
They both have social pluralism, according to sheer sizes of their citizens with different interests,
ethnics or religions; this also prevents everyone from taking part in the government and instead,

Pluralism And The American Dream
"A pluralistic society with pluralism" is what the United States has always strived towards
(Friedman). The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has
been known for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely
linked to the ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an
equal opportunity through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these methods
every United States citizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and success.
However this theory, whilst wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact, it can be
said that the American Dream is dead. The middle class of America, ... Show more content on

Without the financial means change in a capitalistic society is virtually impossible. Therefore, in
theory, more income means a better stance in society. However, wages are entirely stagnant, the
middle class has not seen an income change in "fifteen years" (Eskow). In fact, when comparing
incomes, "Americans are making less now than they were when Bill Clinton was in the white
house" (Meacham). Even if there is still the seeds of the American dream sown around the country,
it cannot grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class
the gap between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This
growing separation is further proof of the American Dream "becoming more elusive for more
people" (Meacham). One could say that the separation not only makes the American Dream more
elusive, but is a contributing factor to the death of the Dream. Often American citizens, when
income has failed, have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer

Plurality And Pluralism In Islam
Based upon my further observation as a scholar and a Muslim, I find a lot of incompatibility about
your interpretation of Islam with the Qur'an. The Qur'an implies that all religions shall be more
emphasis on pluralism (diversity and tolerance), and I do believe in it. According to my
understanding on pluralism in Islam, it emphasizes more to the religious tolerance, and does not
view Islam as the only religion to be recognized in the world. Pluralism I meant here also can
simply be recognized as a major foundation in maintaining the state and the society because
basically people are diverse one another. As a true pluralism means acknowledging that all members
of society have a right to be able to embrace the religion in which accordance with their beliefs and
everyone is obliged to respect and honor them (as cited by Munawar, 32). Not only Islam, but ...

[49:14] .
This verse explains that as human beings, we are not only taught to get to know each other, but also
have to respect each other and receive a plurality of the society such as religion. Do not get me
wrong. Once again, Pluralism I meant here is respect and tolerance between individuals in religions.
We are all created differently, but is equal in the eyes of Allah; therefore, we should all be able to
respect and tolerate all the differences that exist. In the Qur'an itself, Allah also explained as the
following verse:
"Say, 'O ye disbelievers!'.'I worship not that which you worship'. 'Nor worship you what I worship'.
'And I am not going to worship that which you worship'. 'Nor will you worship what I worship'. 'For

Robert Dahl Pluralism
Robert Dahl in Dilemmas of Pluralist Democracy (1982) realizes that there are several issues to
understanding the term democracy and the antiquated meaning that it has. In this reading, Dahl also
addresses domination and how power and its influence are allocated in the political process through
interest groups and organized political parties. On the first concept, Dahl attempts to give
democracy a more adequate meaning to the modern world. He coins the term "Polyarchy" where
society tries to implement democracy in large–scale governments, also known as countries. (pg.
131) This is Dahl's response to knowing that in all democratized countries there are organizations or
independent factions that exist. For Dahl this freedom to assemble is known as a pluralist democracy
and shows that a country that is exercising democratic pluralism is one where polyarchy and
important groups are autonomous. Pg. 132 As a result, Dahl concludes that any country that is
democratic is considered a pluralist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sets a criteria based on his observations of the ideals of Democracy. These ideals consist of 5
qualities that must exist in order for a democracy to function. In his observations he identifies the
following: 1. Equality in voting, 2. Effective participation, 3. Enlightened understanding, 4. Final
control over the agenda, and 5. Inclusion. Dahl then discovers a dilemma in pluralist democracy.
This dilemma is in understanding that people aren't autonomous if their decision making process
fails to satisfy the criteria above and that also if the political process were to meet the criteria in its
entirety. Then people ironically could not govern themselves as a result. (pg. 133) Dahl's critique is
that since democracy is related to the idea of people being autonomous, then therefore a decision
making process can only be democratic if and only if it meets these criteria. (pg.

Assess The Difference Between Pluralism And Exclusivism
Religious pluralism is an attitude regarding the diversity of religious belief systems in society. It
refers to the belief in two or more religious as being equally valid. That means that religious
pluralism accepts multiple paths to God. Otsu in the "Deep River" believes that all religious
tradition are imperfect and all religious tradition can bring us closer to the same God. I agreed with
these ideas. This paper will explain the religious pluralism, exclusivism, and inclusivism by using
the two books: Shusaku Endo's "Deep River" and Stephen Prothero's "God Is Not One".

Taoism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Each religion, by contrast, teach people ... Show more

Inclusivism has a great appeal to people because of its sympathetic approach to religion. However,
inclusivism will sometimes ignore the fact of ungodly elements within religions. Some of
inclusivists believe that all the people in the world who is saved by Jesus Christ. Inclusivism
attempts to stand between pluralism and exclusivism by agreeing with the latter that one religion has
the most value. At the same time, it also agrees with the former by stating that other religions also
have significant value. Even though pluralism, exclusivism, and inclusivism have been discussed
and criticized a lot, but most of the religious studies and students are all believes that it is the start
point about the diversity of religions. If it's seen from the other religions' perspective, inclusivism
can be seen and described as haughty exclusivist. In another word, it seems like it deny all the
religions work. It's like saying that Hindus are not saved by dharma in Hindulism. Muslims are not
saved by all strive in Islam. Jesus Christ didn't save all the people. This is not just prove that all
aother religions' salvation doctrine are false. At the same time, it also showed that people did not get
salvation by obeyed the salvation doctrine. Therefore, inclusivism cannot be accepted as Biblically

Religious Pluralism: A Christian Analysis
"Religious pluralism generally refers to the belief in two or more religious worldviews as being
equally valid or acceptable. More than mere tolerance, religious pluralism accepts multiple paths to
God or gods as a possibility" (Got Questions Ministries, 2017). "Religious pluralism goes against
the Christian claim to absolute truth as stated in John 14:6 (New Living Translation), "Jesus told
him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me"
(Sackett, 2014, p. 77).
Religious pluralists believe that absolute truth is disclosed by people's experience. Christians believe
that absolute truth is proclaimed in John 14:6, when Jesus states He is the truth, and revelation does

I had to learn and read the scriptures for myself to gain understanding of the truth, and allow the
Holy Spirit to give me revelation as I read the scriptures. Then, I could believe the absolute truth of
Jesus and His words for myself. Jesus ministered directly from the heart of God. His words give
inspiration, and unexplainable joy. I remember going out to dinner with some friends and family,
and I said the prayer, and ended it in Jesus name. My cousin who is a Muslim looked up, and said,
"Why did you end your prayer in Jesus name?" I boldly confessed, because that is the only way to
get to the Father. As a believer, we half to believe the Word of God, we cannot be like the religious
pluralist believing every religion is accurate, as long as they are good people and believe in a God.
Christians have to learn to speak up, and speak the truth of Christ, but that is only if we are a truly
committed believer of Christ and the Gospel. Ecclesiastes 1:9 states, "There is nothing new under
the sun." Jesus knew all about the battles His generation was facing, and He knows about ours. Jesus
left us with memories and powerful testimonies of His miraculous works, and parables that we can
relate our lives to, so we can understand His conviction, forgiveness and His love

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Employee Relations
Employment relation is one of the vital and critical parts of HRM. For making an effective and
healthy relationship between employers and employees, it is important to understand the perception
of employment relations along with its importance in an organisation (Wang & Chen, 2005). Thus, if
an organisation fails to understand its significance of employment relations and unable to manager
employer and employee relationship efficiently, this might lead to impact on the organisation power
and will deter its strength and profitability. According to Singh (2011), employee relations is

Domination: it is also known as the pattern of interethnic relation in which one can inspire the ethnic
community. Which is usually in control of the state organization, except limit or otherwise
subordinate members of the other ethnic communities. There are two major type of domination;
exclusionary and inclusionary.
a) Exclusionary: it can be formal or non–formal. The main effect for either case is structure of ethnic

community come together and agree for a leadership to mutually acknowledge the right and interest
of one another. Share a common government, which is made by the agreement of rule and
understanding.
Example: The good example of power sharing can be the stable federal states of India, Canada, and

A Closer Look at Pluralism
Reading over the brilliant work of Michael Walzer's "What does it mean to be an American" I have
discovered that the identity of Americans is that of a "melting pot." We , as Americans, promote an
abundance of cultures that are interconnected to make our country the amazing place it is today.
Walzer believes in the diversity of America, he realizes that America's cultural diversity is part of
what makes us the best country in the world. Walzer knows that pluralism and national unity go
hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. Even with the existence of dozens of ethnos
that have the right to vote and live freely as U.S. citizens, we are not in jeopardy of acquiring any
negative consequences. As walzer stated "one can reasonably argue that ethnic pluralism is entirely
compatible with the existence of a unified republic." Walzer's opinion on pluralism is diverse as the
word would indicate. To begin with, he stresses the importance of keeping immigration open, and
we should be strongly against any government issued law that would cut off immigrants coming into
this country. No one is indigenous to this country, so in a sense, we are all immigrants. It is morally
repugnant to allow some to come, while turning others away. Next, he states that we should upgrade
the schooling to help in the teaching of history and aid in immigrant awareness. Then, he goes on to
discuss how essential it is to identify and aid in the nurturing of public political ability

explosive issues in the United States Today is how to meet the educational needs of culturally and
linguistically diverse students. If current trends in educational achievement continue, millions of
students (primarily poor, African American, Asian, Native American, and Hispanic) will not obtain
the education necessary for full participation in the economic and civic life of the country.
Furthermore, the inequality that results from differences in educational achievement of children is
likely to make the social stability of the United States increasingly doubtful."

The Diversity Of A Multicultural Organization
The multicultural organization Historically, diversity in the workplace was seen as an employment
equity issues. As the years passed by, it all changed. The surge of globalization has needed the
collaboration among people of different backgrounds and cultures. Nowadays, organizations are
now creating a diverse workforce beyond just gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Many U.S.
organizations are embracing women, ethnic minorities, and foreign–born employees more than ever
before in history. Diversity calls for organizations to recognize individuals for themselves,
regardless their designated groups. This paper will be focusing in three different parts of diversity in
the workforce: type of organizations, the benefits & cost, and measurements taken by CEOs to
promote diversity. In today's society, due to the great diversity, organizations should be multicultural
to allow all members of different cultural backgrounds to contribute and achieve their full potential.
According to Cox (1991), there three different types of organizations including monolithic, plural,
and multicultural organization. The monolithic organization is demographically and culturally
homogeneous. According to Cox, the most important fact about this type of organization is that
there is minimal structural integration. For example, most Chinese companies are monolithic from a
cultural and ethnic perspective. The majority of their workers are ethnically Han Chinese. However,

Reiss Pluralism
Throughout the chapters of this book Reiss has done an exceptional job of depicting the nature of
pluralism and expressing how the acceptance of this sex positive perspective can alleviate our
current sexual crisis. The pluralistic model is rooted in the idea of personal choice and teaching
individuals to not impose their views of sexuality onto others, but to accept difference even when
there is disagreement. As well as this it becomes evident that pluralism offers the notion that there is
no single right way of expressing sexuality, but that there are endless amounts which depend on
personal interests. In discussing the characteristics of pluralism the most important perspective of
this concept, in my opinion, is the acceptance of the value

America is no longer a primarily Christian nation. This has manifested itself in a multitude of ways,
including but not limited to: rampant sexual immorality, abuse of mind–altering substances,
disregard for human life, and an overall hatred of the concept of authority. All of these things stem
back to a faulty understanding of the Biblical concept of Salvation. This faulty understanding
ultimately has existed since the beginning of Christianity. All throughout church history, the false
teaching regarding man's spiritual condition has reared its ugly head. One of the first recorded false

We think that Jesus was just a good teacher, or an example we should follow, and all we have to do

only heresy in which we have to deal with to get to the root of American unbelief and/or

belief that all roads lead to heaven. This belief has been propagated by such prominent figures such
as, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Joel Osteen, and Pope Francis. This is a toxic idea that upon
reaching its conclusion, destroys truth. If everything is true, then why believe anything at all? Now

The Defeat of Many by One
In The Moor's Last Sigh, Salman Rushdie uses the complex and changing character of the Moor to
represent a complex and changing image of India. By making the eclectic family history of the Da–
Gama Zogoiby family the central theme in the first two parts of the novel, Rushdie portrays India as
a culturally and religiously pluralistic society. This pluralistic society is layered by violence caused
by the corruption of multiplicity by various characters and the threat of Hindu fundamentalism. As
pluralism is defeated by fascism in Part Three of the novel, the nature of the violence changes
drastically and is symbolized by the Moor's significant character change: "The Moor whose

The Zogoiby's diverse history entails attempts to embrace many of these ideals. The eclectic cultural
backgrounds of the Zogoiby family are representative of pluralism in India. The Da–Gamas are
Portuguese Catholics while the Zogoibys are Moorish Jews. All of the Moor's ancestors blatantly
reject religion and embrace secularism: an arguably important component of pluralism. When
Camoens went to see Gandhi speak, he told his wife Belle, "I hear nothing. I had seen India's beauty
in that crowd with its soda–water and cucumber but with that God stuff I got scared" (Rushdie 55).
Another example of pluralism within the Zogoiby family is Aurora's artwork, especially her
childhood paintings in which she strives to represent the variety and multiplicity in the vision of the
world and the vision of India. As Aurora ages, however, her childhood visions of pluralism are
significantly changed.
Although Aurora's later paintings also embrace pluralism, they reveal possible catastrophe: A place
where worlds collide, flow in and out of one another, and washofy away. Place where an air–man
can drowno in water, or else grow gills; where a water–creature can get drunk, but also chokeofy on
air. One universe, one dimension, one country, one dream, bumpo'ing into another, or being under or

What Is Good For The Employee Is Good?
In recent events it has become evident that there is much debate about whether what is good for the
employee is good for the employer and from this the speculation of whether the unitarist approach
works better in the working environment or that of the pluralist. Even though the definition of the
pluralist approach, which shall be defined further on, shows that it may be an advantageous
approach whereas others believe otherwise and this is why this essay will argue that the unitarist
approach is one worth believing in. This essay will also provide some examples that have occurred

Human Resource Management, i.e., the unitarist approach in employee relations is referred as a

the more integrated and strategic frameworks which focus on shared workplace interests and
employee commitment. This approach is a popular one because "the unitarist perspective is one of
the key employee frameworks in human resource management. In the unitarist framework, there is a

Social Policy is a Pluralistic Process.
Introduction
This assignment deals with the significance involvement of the pluralistic process in making of
social policy. The essay is divided into four main sections. It will first define the key terms as: social
policy, pluralism, welfare; and describe the role of the social policy, pluralism, but also to make
connection between this terms and their ideology. It will then go on to consider how social policy
gets made; it can assess the extent to which different ideas actually become social policy. The
different models will help to judge the relative influence of different groups with their different
ideas. The third part compares the early social policy with the contemporary social policy and the
pluralism with the other 'Power Models' of democracy in practice. Finally, some conclusions will be
drawn as to sum up the main points of the essay presented and toke a particular position to express
some of my opinions.
Main Body
First of all 'social policy entails the study of the social relations necessary for human wellbeing and
the systems by which wellbeing may be promoted' (Dean, 2006: 1). A more explicit description is
that social policy is a policy that deals with various social issues. Such issues may involve cultures,
discrimination against race and gender and diseases that are stigmatized among many others. Next
the term 'pluralism' is basically the distribution of power in society; it

Ideal vs. Reality: Religious Pluralism vs. Religious...
America is full and rich with diverse people, religions and values; they make America great. Just
look at Riverside, California, there are over fifty churches of different denominations of Christianity,
three synagogues, two temples, and one mosque; all coinciding peacefully in the city (Yellow
Pages). Because Riverside is so diverse, religious pluralism and religious tolerance are two steps in
making Riverside more connected. The first step is tolerance, a reflex that acknowledges a person
will come across people of a different faith. The second step is pluralism, which is a better
understanding of a person's religion as well as the other religions around them. Many believe
pluralism is the better of the two, because of the interaction ... Show more content on

Tolerance is reflexive discipline that does not require people interacting together, however most
people used tolerance every day. Both pluralism and tolerance can been seen in society today as they
are defined. The government is preventing pluralism, by pushing for tolerance. As America creates a
social network for nations, the citizens are using tolerance, where they don't have to learn or
understand, making a barrier. For instance, Madeleine Albright in The Mighty and the Almighty,
noted that U.S. ambassadors did not have to understand or know about the major religion of the
country they were in (Prothero 5). This is dangerous because if ambassadors do not have to
understand all of the country, then how can the United States expect a citizens to understand the
religions around them. America is creating a nation where many are seeing the world from a solely
tolerant perspective. The media contributes to the tolerant perspective, as there is a "us" vs. "them"
mentality. As Douglas W. Shrader, a professor of Philosophy at the New York State University
Oneonta, says "... we must learn to listen ... because ... we might learn something about ourselves...,"
the piece explains when the America government can listen and learn the citizens of America can
move forward into pluralism(9). The government can aid the citizens in taking down the barrier of
tolerance and creating a door

Elitist Vs. Pluralist. Which Is Better?
Elitist vs Pluralist. Which is better? Many things in our society today are determined by the people,
by who they are in the society, what they get or receive from being that person and how they receive
that certain item or award. Sometimes people, depending on the money they have or their name that
everybody knows them by like Doctor, boss, founder, writer, artist and many more, determine the
things they receive in this society. There are two different theories in our society on democracy. But
first, I will explain what a theory is. Many people think that a theory is just something that people
believe in or believe will happen. That is far from the truth about theories. The scientific method
starts out as a person asking a question about a certain topic. Then the person researches that topic
and learns more about it. Next the person creates a hypothesis which is an explanation of the topic
and gives reasons and explains the reasoning behind the certain topic. Then you are to test your
hypothesis with an experiment of some sort. The experiment has to be relevant to the hypothesis and
the topic. Once you finish the experiment, come up with a conclusion. Did the results fail or succeed
? Finally, you need to
write down your results. Did your experiment work or was there something that went wrong? If
there was something that went wrong then you have to repeat all those steps until your hypothesis
comes out succeeding. If your experiment and hypothesis succeed from the

Compare and Contrast of the Three Faces of Power
Some theorists believe that 'power is everywhere: not because it embraces everything, but because it
comes from everywhere... power is not an institution, nor a structure, nor possession. It is the name
we give to a complex strategic situation in a particular society. (Foucault, 1990: 93) This is because
power is present in each individual and in every relationship. It is defined as the ability of a group to
get another group to take some form of desired action, usually by consensual power and sometimes
by force. (Holmes, Hughes &Julian, 2007) There have been a number of differing views on 'power
over' the many years in which it has been studied. Theorist such as Anthony Gidden in his works on
structuration theory attempts to integrate basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luke's one–dimensional view of power is centred on this concept and in order to develop
understanding as to how power is achieved and maintained within society, an analyses of decision–
making in the public arena must be made. It also contests that the group that holds and maintains
power can be determined by looking at who succeeds when there is political conflict. (Lukes,
1974:12) It emphasises the importance of the observed behaviour of those in power and analyses the
effects on the wider community when making decisions (Lukes 1974:25) Lukes spends a lot of time
discussing Dahl's theory of power through his own theory. The power held by a specific group may
be either, 'overt' or 'covert' but the triumph of power is at the point is during the decision–making
process and when these decision have been made, especially, those of the controversial nature of
ones centred around the most conflict (Lukes, 1974:13) The one dimensional view of power
proposed by Lukes is the most straightforward of the three dimensions. In a way, it is also the easiest
to observe, as the power structure through decision–making is more translucent and has a lot of clear
definable features.
The two–dimensional view or second face of power discusses the non–decision making and how the
group or individual controls what is put on the political agenda. This form of power is power
through agenda setting. The perspective of the

Pluralism Website Analysis
I thought the Pluralism Project website was really easy to use. I was able to find links that I thought
were interesting without a lot of hassle. I definitely could find myself coming back to this website
and using it again. Especially with not being able to go to class, I was able to go through this
website in my free time to discover things I was intrigued by on my own. I would recommend this
website to anyone who needed to study something in this scope of information. It was just so helpful
to me that I couldn't have imagined trying to learn the same information in another form. I think that
a huge hinder on my learning about Judaism is the fact that I haven't been able to go to class. I have
been really busy with soccer the past week and that has caused me to miss the class discussions on
Judaism. I learn best when I can discuss my ideas with other people and I have really had to buckle

I really had no idea how they may different ways someone could study the religion. I just figure
there was one very board way that people study as strictly or as casual as they wanted, kind of how
Catholicism works. Although when I really sat down and thought of it being Catholic is just being a
different type of Christianity. There are so many different types of followings and understandings of
Christianity, that it would be hard to keep track if you yourself was not a Christian. This really
makes me want to learn more and more about the religions I come in contact with. I should be
asking more questions when I meet someone who is different from me. Judaism is a far more
complex thing than I ever realized. There is way more than just modern and orthodox Jews. This has
really made me understand that I can't just make board generalizations about groups because the

Postmodern Pluralism
Postmodern Pluralism and its Effect on Truth and Reconciliation Art: Going Home Star
In 2008, the government created a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, hereafter referred to as
TRC, committed to the tasks of discovering the truth about Canada's Indian Residential Schools,
revealing this truth to all Canadians, and attempting to reconcile the relationship between
Indigenous and non–Indigenous Canadians. One of the ways the TRC suggested to facilitate this
reconciliation process is through the creative arts. Indeed, in the last few years, Canada has seen a
host of artistic projects launched which seek to heal and reconcile this relationship, these projects
will hereafter be referred to as 'reconciliation art'. One of the most prominent ... Show more content

In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present
both "classical and vernacular traditions," within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just
music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti–elitist, as it does not
distinguish between 'high' and 'low' culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at
its core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few,
postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many
different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first
twenty minutes, we hear influences from "big band music, dubstep, hip–hop, Swan Lake and
anything in between." Swan Lake is an example of 'classical' music while big band, dubstep, and
hip–hop are all forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti–elitism was very important to Hatzis
when composing Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect
with the music, even if they aren't trained in classical music. His main consideration was to not
"alienate our native population." Reconciliation art must fight against elitism in order to not alienate
any audience members. Anti–elitism, through pluralism of genre, is another element of

Pluralism In The Muslim Community
Pluralism by definition is a state of society that promotes inclusion and tolerance that allows a group
to maintain and develop their traditional culture. For the Muslim community, this is tied to their
cultural identity and sense of belonging here in the United States. The journal article states that "It
encourages skepticism and innovation and is thus subversive of the status quo" (Moore 118). In
other words, pluralism works to fight against a secular world and opens the door to change.
However, it is difficult to proclaim that such an ideology exists on American soil given the events
that occurred to the Muslim community post 9–11.

It's easy to politically marginalize a group of people who make up a small fraction of the total U.S
population. Being underrepresented and feeling like they do not have a voice in the government puts
a halt on any form of change and make it even more difficult to establish a sense of belonging. The
U.S in term of an industrialized powerhouse is a the top which contributes to its political power,
however, the inclusion of Muslim Americans is almost nonexistent. For many Muslim Americans, it
is difficult to continue publicly supporting and celebrating their culture, religion, and heritage out of
fear of the backlash.
People fear that in which is different from the norm but, America is founding upon the idea of
freedom and diversity. Inclusion and tolerance should not be something that has to be required rather
a principle ingrained in each individual from the very beginning. This journal article aimed to

The Theory Of Social Life
Theory Paper Throughout my social life I've had many different experiences with different races and
ethnicities that relate to the ethnic–related theories. I feel as if most of my encounters follow the
assimilation perspective. I know specific events and encounters but, it's easy to just observe these
things happening in your surroundings. The pluralist theory is pretty much the complete opposite of
the assimilation theory. In this theory the certain group doesn't conform to society but, they celebrate
their ethnic traditions. They are not ashamed of their culture; they are proud and want to display
their enthusiasm about it. The last theory are the power and stratification theories. These are more of
a structural problem that affects the whole ethnic group but; I know certain people that have to go
through these struggles. My social life consists with different events that coordinate with some of
the ethnic–related theories. I wouldn't call the slice of my social life terribly diverse, but I have been
exposed to different races and ethnicities. I come from a quaint little town in the suburbs of
Cleveland called Painesville. The demographics of the city part of this township area is almost
evenly split between Hispanics and Caucasians with a higher percent of people belonging in these
race groups, while African Americans come in next then carried out with different races and
ethnicities to fill out the makeup of the township. My school was still more a prominently white

What I Gained My Role As An Educational Leader From These...

1. What insights have I gained about my role as an educational leader from these chapters?
After reading these chapters my eyes have been open to a different way of thinking. The book
mentioned how no one is born a hater. It's your attitude and surrounding that makes you believe you
are a hater of a certain group of people. As an educational leader, these chapters show how
important it is to show love and compassion to all. Also to have an understanding and appreciation
of all ways of life. The attitude of the students and staff start from the top. If you have a negative

I believe the biggest conflict I have between my values and how I behave as an educator is the fact
that I have to stay neutral. The students or parents should not know your religious beliefs or how
you think politically. As an educator you must educate all on both sides allowing them to think for
themselves. Not everyone thinks the same way or has the same morals. Although I can display some
of my values as just as love and respect, I am unable to express my opinion on some topics within
the school. Often times it is hard to remember. For example, a teacher might have to teach evolution
when they believe in creation. One would have to stay neutral and teach and understand both
creation and evolution in order for the students to be well rounded and exposed to every aspect. I
find that to be the biggest struggle for myself as an educator.
3. How have schools used labels to define and control minority groups?
In the classroom, the teacher's greatest challenge is to instill hope and appreciation. If a sense of
hope can be brought into these students' lives, and a plan for the future developed, an at–risk student
may be able to find the motivation to succeed in school and work to better their prospects for a
better life. Schools have used labels to define and control minority groups to target these at–risks
students. Students are grouped in several groups. Schools create labels to define students based on

The Positive Impact Of Social Media's Impact On Society
Technology Impacting Our Society Social media has opened so many doors for the many people in
our country and assist them to connect back to their country from a click of a button as mentioned in
Diana L. Eck's, "Preface: After September 11 and Introduction to a New America". As we develop
into a pluralistic society, social media is playing an imperative role in which it is easy to make
connection with a vast number of people. But there are limitations that could arise because of this,
for example not being able to create "strong ties" with the amount of "friends" we have on social
media. Throughout the article, in Malcolm Gladwell's "Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not
Be Tweeted" he discusses "strong ties" and "weak ties" that arise as a result of social media taking
over and how it affects the problematic situations around the world. As we approach our pluralistic
society, it is getting much easier to feel like we all belong with the constant feeling of comfort
coming from the internet and all it has to offer. Social media in present day is something that is
evolving so rapidly in our world and throughout our flourishing pluralistic society, we are using
technology to develop ourselves and make connection around us, but limitations are still present and
can affect our ability to truly connect with our nation in a motivational way. Eck and Gladwell both
discuss "strong ties" in their articles and they both connect to one another in similar ways because

Cultural Pluralism Sociology
Robert E. Park was a huge contributor in establishing sociology in the United States in the 1920s
and 1930s. His theory of assimilation was analyzing a social process and social interaction. Park
argued that assimilation is inevitable in a democratic and industrial society (Healey, 2017, 50). Park
strongly believed that when the American society begins to modernize, ethnic and race groups
would lose importance. This theory was proven to be true in the European immigrant groups across
the 20th century. Due to industrialization, the nature of work in America evolved and changed and
created opportunities for upward mobility for white ethnic groups (Healey, 2017, 81). A form of
upward mobility was resulted in the changes in the structure of the economy and labor market. This
was called structural mobility. The descendants of European immigrants became upwardly mobile
not only because of their individual ambitions and efforts but also because of the changing location
or jobs and the progressively greater opportunities for education available for them (Healey, 2017,
81).
Pluralism can be distinguished by two different types: cultural and structural. Cultural pluralism
exists when groups have not acculturated and each maintains its own identity. The groups might
speak different languages, practice different religions, and have different value systems (Healey,
2017, 55). The Amish are a perfect representation of a cultural pluralism. They are separated from

Pluralism : Is Pluralistic Or Not?
Pluralism in America America as we see it today is a country with many different races, cultures,
and religions all scattered out throughout the nation. You might not be able to tell but when you're
walking down the street there are people from all over the world that are walking around you, and
not just that, there are people that may have the complete opposite religion that you have. You might
not like that very well but it is a matter of America being pluralistic. In many people's eyes America
is not truly pluralistic, but the right people see that America is how you want it be. Meaning the
people have to make the decision whether it is pluralistic or not, and it has not become a fact
whether or not is or not yet. Pluralism is a society, system of government, or organization that has
multiple groups to save their identities while being with other groups. Rather than having just one
group or culture, determining how things are going to go, pluralism notices a larger number of
fighting groups that think they all share the same power. Pluralism serves as a example of equality,
where different groups can voice their opinions and ideas. There are many example of why America
is not a truly defined nation yet and here is the first one. There are many different diversities that are
all in America. Many people may not like the fact that they are living next to a Muslim family or a
Jewish family but it is the way America is. The people who do not like that being the case of

Structuralism. Post structuralism is a philosophical response to structuralism.
Do you agree with Rosado's definition of multiculturalism? Would you add or delete information
to/from his definition?
I do not totally agree with Rosado's (1996) definition of multiculturalism. Specifically, I don't
believe it's necessary to acknowledge a person's differences. Quite frankly, I would be horrified. I

The Pros And Cons Of A Moralist Society
First, we must understand what a pluralist society is. A pluralistic society is a diverse one, where the
people in it believe all kinds of different things and tolerate each other's beliefs even when they don't
match their own. (Vocabulary.com). Today I'm here tell you the positive of pluralist system.
Especially from books of the Federalist 10 and on the use that Americans Make of Association in
Civil Life. I will now critically evaluated these books. In hopes to show how positive this system of
society is.
In the federalist papers number ten James Madison main concern is that of factions. Madison feared
not the wealthy or powerful but the poor. This partly from shays rebellion he feels this way because
the rich are small and exclusive to one another but poor are one of many. You can relate this to many
situations in America. One of these the examples is players strike in NFL as they felt they were not
getting paid equally enough for enduring the hard seasons in the football league the owners had
come gather and pay the players. Kind of like shays rebellion.
Among the laws that rule human societies there is one that seems more precise and clearer than all
the others. In order that men remain civilized or become so, the art of associating must be developed
and perfected among them in the same ratio as equality of conditions increases. Tocqueville). This
positive in my eyes because people are able to come as one as a society. This gives American greater

Pluralism Argumentative Analysis
Pluralism is the belief or condition in which minority groups (ethnic, religious, and more) participate
fully in the ascendant society yet maintain their cultural differences and full freedom. (Anyabwile,
83). Pluralism, it appears, accepts multiple paths to God or gods as a possibility and is usually
contrasted with "exclusivism". In doing as such it makes for a much more common risk to
Christianity's religious thinking's than the more common part of alternate points of view.
Pluralism puts a shield over a man's ability to completely understand the full truth. This so –called

This is the place toughness on pluralism's part really is to the event of the Christian, for they should

Christ will flourish. As the Bible states, , "And the one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places,
this is the man who hears the word, and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in
himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word,
immediately he falls away"(Matthew 13:20–21). Criticism in the interest of God is to our advantage
and also theirs. Opinion as to staying close to our unbelieving brothers and sisters is a push towards
their salvation in Christ. As Christians, we should have trust in the Gospel and feeling of being

American Language Pluralism
1. What were the dominant concerns of the founders of the United States with regard to language?
Several of the founders deemed standardization of language usage to be a grave concern because the
US does not have a designated language.
2. What attitudes did pre–twentieth–century Americans display toward linguistic diversity? What
attitudes did they hold toward assimilation or cultural pluralism? The attitudes of pre–twentieth–
century Americans toward linguistic diversity, as well as, assimilation appears to be one of non–
accepting. However, Anthropologist and individuals within these different societies, on the other
hand, strongly disagreed with this belief.
3. What seems to account for waves of concern about an official language? There are several
reasons for the apprehension surrounding an official language. Some feel the unity and customs

How can we foster a climate of acceptance and cultural pluralism in the United States?
Pluralism is a state in which racial and ethnic categories, though distinct, have equal social standing.
(Macionis, 2012 pg.84) So in stating what it is we are looking to foster gives us a better idea of what
to expect if we do foster a climate of acceptance and cultural pluralism in the United States. Though
to get there we need to teach, I mean really teach each other and about one another in every way
form what we eat to how we celebrate traditions. We need to get everyone involved as much as
possible, which means in schools, jobs, and community. By doing all of this we will have a better

acceptance easier all around.

The Argument Of Mats, By Managing Culture
INTRODUCTION
This paper seeks to support the argument of Mats Alvesson that by managing culture, it is possible
to facilitate positive outcomes beneficial to stakeholders in an organization. It also suggests that
employers and employees can have mutually beneficial relationship and achieve organizational
performance. To analyse and evaluate the argument, it is important to define and understand the
concept of 'culture' and 'control'.
2.0 DEFINITION OF CULTURE
According to Schien (2010), culture is how we are supposed to feel and act in a given society or
organization which has been taught by various social experiences as a way to maintain social order.
Schuller et al (2012) also defined culture as the way of behaving and believing that a ... Show more

Control is an important function that managers must perform to ensure things are moving in the
right direction and to keep errors at the barest minimum. Control ensures effectiveness and
efficiency in an organization.
FORMS OF CONTROL
There are various forms of control which include;
Behavioural Control
This is a form of control where managers closely monitor what employees do and have penalties for
disobedience. For Example, where employees have to clock in and out in an organisation or have a
dress code at work.
Cultural Control
Here, employees have a personal relationship with the organisation and support the organisations
goals and objectives. Oftentimes, employees are unaware that management influences the way they
behave. For example, spme organisations provide all facilities like the gym, nursery, cafes in one
building to always employees at work
Social Control
THEORIES OF EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS
It is indeed possible to achieve organizational outcomes beneficial to employees and shareholders.
To determine this, it is pertinent to discuss the forms of employment relations. Firstly;
Unitarist Theory
This theory assumes that the management of an organization has the right and authority to lead and,
any form of opposition to this is regarded as irrational and

The Dynamic Continuum For Diversity And Multiculturalism

  • 1. The Dynamic Continuum For Diversity And Multiculturalism No school can trust effectively to teach today's youngsters without recognizing and grasping the social pluralism of our various society. To this end, free school instructors must work to make learning groups that energize and bolster assorted qualities of enrollment and multicultural curricula. Such people group comprehend that one's individual viewpoint depends, to a limited extent, upon one's area in society. Common understandings are multifaceted; they develop in groups that urge people to convey their stories to the table. A monocultural perspective of the world is a bending of reality. • 4. Religious Pluralism Essay On July 12, 2007, for the first time in American history the Senate session that day was opened by a prayer; unlike any other prayer, it was given by a Hindu priest. At first sight, it would seem as though the ideals designed by the framers of the Constitution were alive and well; the pluralization of the United States of America, the land of freedom of religion, and the right to worship without persecution. However, the Christian right wing religious group Operation Save America entered the Senate floor and began to heckle Rajan Zed, the Hindu priest, perpetuating that Hinduism is an "abomination", as Hindus do not worship "The lord Jesus Christ". This leads us to ask the question: Is America a land of religious pluralism, or is it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With 77% of all evangelical leaders holding an unfavorable view of Islam, still 93% of evangelicals agree that it is important to "Welcome Muslims into the American community (Cimino, R, pg. 2). This survey reveals that the problem with the Islam faith is not racial: The Muslim people are welcomed, the Islam faith is not. The violence that has been perpetrated against America, whether executed or planned, has brought to fruition religious persecution not seen since the persecution of the Jews in W.W.II. This "trust no Arab" attitude has brought shame to the Constitutional intentions of freedom of religion intended by our forefathers, and has set religious tolerance back 200 years. Looking at media representation of Muslim Americans prior to 9–11, it shows religious diversity in America, depicting Muslim America as just another religious community seeking to advance and protect their interests, not unlike other Americans. After 9–11 the media portrayed representations of threat and fear, creating boundaries between Muslims and other Americans. Such depiction transforms the identity of Muslims and American religious pluralism (Byng, M. pg. 3). The land of pluralism has become a land of persecution for Muslim Americans. • 6. Pluralism And The Problem Of Religious Diversity There exists a vast number of religions in the world that have their own belief systems and populations of followers that, naturally, gives result to a wide variety of religious diversity. Logically, the problem with this religious diversity is that it is hard to see how they could all be true at any rate. In response to this problem, two solutions have been proposed: pluralism and exclusivism. Pluralism makes a claim that all of the religions are true in their own way where exclusivism, on the other hand, makes the claim that only one religion is true in its beliefs. I will be discussing the differences between exclusivism and pluralism in depth as responses to the problem of religious diversity as well as comparing and contrasting Christianity and Hinduism to make a case for why exclusivism is the correct solution. The first solution to the problem, pluralism, which is advocated by John Hick, offers that, fundamentally, deep down, all of the religions are the same and so are all true in their own way. Hick, in his work titled Who or What is God?, believes that the concept of God can be described as anthropomorphic. That is, as Hick puts it, "God is a being like ourselves in the fundamental respect that we are both – God and ourselves – persons. But whereas we are finite, created, dependent persons, God is an infinite, eternal, uncreated and omnipotent Person." (Hick). He paints a picture of who God is by saying "that God's inner nature is beyond the range of our human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Pluralist and Ruling Elite Accounts of Political Power in the U.K. and U.S. Whilst there are not any absolutely accurate interpretations of political power and political system, there are different controversial theories about those, among which, pluralist and ruling elite are the two fundamentally outstanding theories that both have echoing practical influences in the modern world of politics nowadays. In this essay, I shall try to attempt to briefly explain the two theories, going further on from this, to mainly compare and contrast these theories, especially taking into account the political power in the UK and US where modern democratic societies are claimed to exist and government is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrasting with pluralism, the theory of ruling elite suggests that government can and should be controlled by a small elite, as mobilising and communicating within a small group is far simplier and easier than that of the mass body. It can be seen as a minority which governs in its own interest and is unaccountable to the majority. It is defined by the possession of three characteristics: consciousness, coherence and conspiracy. Consciousness refers to the awareness of common interests, coherence means that it shares a common interest and conspiracy describes the capacity to act collectively. Ancient Greek philosopher Plato (427 – 347 BC.) argued that an intelligent elite, whom he styled 'Philosoher–Kings', should government. In addition, the elitists shared a common sceptical view that democratic government is impossible and might be undesirable. They do not believe many interests are represented as political institutions rarely serve their formally stated purposes and instead represent whom they wish. Today there are pluralist influences as well as pluralist essences in both the US and UK politics. They both have social pluralism, according to sheer sizes of their citizens with different interests, ethnics or religions; this also prevents everyone from taking part in the government and instead, ... • 10. Pluralism And The American Dream "A pluralistic society with pluralism" is what the United States has always strived towards (Friedman). The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has been known for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely linked to the ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an equal opportunity through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these methods every United States citizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and success. However this theory, whilst wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact, it can be said that the American Dream is dead. The middle class of America, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without the financial means change in a capitalistic society is virtually impossible. Therefore, in theory, more income means a better stance in society. However, wages are entirely stagnant, the middle class has not seen an income change in "fifteen years" (Eskow). In fact, when comparing incomes, "Americans are making less now than they were when Bill Clinton was in the white house" (Meacham). Even if there is still the seeds of the American dream sown around the country, it cannot grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class the gap between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This growing separation is further proof of the American Dream "becoming more elusive for more people" (Meacham). One could say that the separation not only makes the American Dream more elusive, but is a contributing factor to the death of the Dream. Often American citizens, when income has failed, have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Plurality And Pluralism In Islam Based upon my further observation as a scholar and a Muslim, I find a lot of incompatibility about your interpretation of Islam with the Qur'an. The Qur'an implies that all religions shall be more emphasis on pluralism (diversity and tolerance), and I do believe in it. According to my understanding on pluralism in Islam, it emphasizes more to the religious tolerance, and does not view Islam as the only religion to be recognized in the world. Pluralism I meant here also can simply be recognized as a major foundation in maintaining the state and the society because basically people are diverse one another. As a true pluralism means acknowledging that all members of society have a right to be able to embrace the religion in which accordance with their beliefs and everyone is obliged to respect and honor them (as cited by Munawar, 32). This verse explains that as human beings, we are not only taught to get to know each other, but also have to respect each other and receive a plurality of the society such as religion. Do not get me wrong. Once again, Pluralism I meant here is respect and tolerance between individuals in religions. We are all created differently, but is equal in the eyes of Allah; therefore, we should all be able to respect and tolerate all the differences that exist. • 14. Robert Dahl Pluralism Robert Dahl in Dilemmas of Pluralist Democracy (1982) realizes that there are several issues to understanding the term democracy and the antiquated meaning that it has. In this reading, Dahl also addresses domination and how power and its influence are allocated in the political process through interest groups and organized political parties. On the first concept, Dahl attempts to give democracy a more adequate meaning to the modern world. He coins the term "Polyarchy" where society tries to implement democracy in large–scale governments, also known as countries. (pg. 131) This is Dahl's response to knowing that in all democratized countries there are organizations or independent factions that exist. For Dahl this freedom to assemble is known as a pluralist democracy and shows that a country that is exercising democratic pluralism is one where polyarchy and important groups are autonomous. Pg. 132 As a result, Dahl concludes that any country that is democratic is considered a pluralist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He sets a criteria based on his observations of the ideals of Democracy. These ideals consist of 5 qualities that must exist in order for a democracy to function. In his observations he identifies the following: 1. Equality in voting, 2. Effective participation, 3. Enlightened understanding, 4. Final control over the agenda, and 5. Inclusion. Dahl then discovers a dilemma in pluralist democracy. This dilemma is in understanding that people aren't autonomous if their decision making process fails to satisfy the criteria above and that also if the political process were to meet the criteria in its entirety. Then people ironically could not govern themselves as a result. (pg. 133) Dahl's critique is that since democracy is related to the idea of people being autonomous, then therefore a decision making process can only be democratic if and only if it meets these criteria. • 16. Assess The Difference Between Pluralism And Exclusivism Religious pluralism is an attitude regarding the diversity of religious belief systems in society. It refers to the belief in two or more religious as being equally valid. That means that religious pluralism accepts multiple paths to God. Otsu in the "Deep River" believes that all religious tradition are imperfect and all religious tradition can bring us closer to the same God. I agreed with these ideas. This paper will explain the religious pluralism, exclusivism, and inclusivism by using the two books: Shusaku Endo's "Deep River" and Stephen Prothero's "God Is Not One". However, inclusivism will sometimes ignore the fact of ungodly elements within religions. Some of inclusivists believe that all the people in the world who is saved by Jesus Christ. Inclusivism attempts to stand between pluralism and exclusivism by agreeing with the latter that one religion has the most value. At the same time, it also agrees with the former by stating that other religions also have significant value. Even though pluralism, exclusivism, and inclusivism have been discussed and criticized a lot, but most of the religious studies and students are all believes that it is the start point about the diversity of religions. If it's seen from the other religions' perspective, inclusivism can be seen and described as haughty exclusivist. In another word, it seems like it deny all the religions work. It's like saying that Hindus are not saved by dharma in Hindulism. Muslims are not saved by all strive in Islam. Jesus Christ didn't save all the people. • 18. Religious Pluralism: A Christian Analysis "Religious pluralism generally refers to the belief in two or more religious worldviews as being equally valid or acceptable. More than mere tolerance, religious pluralism accepts multiple paths to God or gods as a possibility" (Got Questions Ministries, 2017). "Religious pluralism goes against the Christian claim to absolute truth as stated in John 14:6 (New Living Translation), "Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me" (Sackett, 2014, p. 77). Religious pluralists believe that absolute truth is disclosed by people's experience. Then, I could believe the absolute truth of Jesus and His words for myself. Jesus ministered directly from the heart of God. His words give inspiration, and unexplainable joy. I remember going out to dinner with some friends and family, and I said the prayer, and ended it in Jesus name. My cousin who is a Muslim looked up, and said, "Why did you end your prayer in Jesus name?" I boldly confessed, because that is the only way to get to the Father. Christians have to learn to speak up, and speak the truth of Christ, but that is only if we are a truly committed believer of Christ and the Gospel. A Closer Look at Pluralism Reading over the brilliant work of Michael Walzer's "What does it mean to be an American" I have discovered that the identity of Americans is that of a "melting pot." We , as Americans, promote an abundance of cultures that are interconnected to make our country the amazing place it is today. Walzer believes in the diversity of America, he realizes that America's cultural diversity is part of what makes us the best country in the world. Walzer knows that pluralism and national unity go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. Even with the existence of dozens of ethnos that have the right to vote and live freely as U.S. citizens, we are not in jeopardy of acquiring any negative consequences. As walzer stated "one can reasonably argue that ethnic pluralism is entirely compatible with the existence of a unified republic." Walzer's opinion on pluralism is diverse as the word would indicate. To begin with, he stresses the importance of keeping immigration open, and we should be strongly against any government issued law that would cut off immigrants coming into this country. No one is indigenous to this country, so in a sense, we are all immigrants. It is morally repugnant to allow some to come, while turning others away. Next, he states that we should upgrade the schooling to help in the teaching of history and aid in immigrant awareness. Then, he goes on to discuss how essential it is to identify and aid in the nurturing of public political ability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If current trends in educational achievement continue, millions of students (primarily poor, African American, Asian, Native American, and Hispanic) will not obtain the education necessary for full participation in the economic and civic life of the country. Furthermore, the inequality that results from differences in educational achievement of children is likely to make the social stability of the United States increasingly doubtful." • 30. The Diversity Of A Multicultural Organization The multicultural organization Historically, diversity in the workplace was seen as an employment equity issues. As the years passed by, it all changed. The surge of globalization has needed the collaboration among people of different backgrounds and cultures. Nowadays, organizations are now creating a diverse workforce beyond just gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Many U.S. organizations are embracing women, ethnic minorities, and foreign–born employees more than ever before in history. Diversity calls for organizations to recognize individuals for themselves, regardless their designated groups. This paper will be focusing in three different parts of diversity in the workforce: type of organizations, the benefits & cost, and measurements taken by CEOs to promote diversity. In today's society, due to the great diversity, organizations should be multicultural to allow all members of different cultural backgrounds to contribute and achieve their full potential. According to Cox (1991), there three different types of organizations including monolithic, plural, and multicultural organization. The monolithic organization is demographically and culturally homogeneous. According to Cox, the most important fact about this type of organization is that there is minimal structural integration. For example, most Chinese companies are monolithic from a cultural and ethnic perspective. The majority of their workers are ethnically Han Chinese. However, from a gender perspective ... Reading the timeline of Judaism made me aware of how many times just outside of the Holocaust they were discriminated against. I have a very limited knowledge of Jewish history and I never understood how the discrimination they faced during the Holocaust came about. It is very clear to me know that it came from a deep seeding of hatred that started long before World War 2. Reading Kabbalah & Hasidism really showed me the effect Judaism has had on the rest on the world. How their traditions have turned into the traditions of other countries. It is interesting to see in the reading A Hasidic Tish how much they still today come back to tradition. In modern Christianity, traditions have been changed to match today's culture. I think it is very interesting to see religious groups like ultra–orthodox Jews still maintain the traditions exactly they way they did when they first arrived in the United States. The Diaspora Community is almost hard for me to comprehend just due to the fact that I couldn't imagine being an exile from a town because of my religion. The Jewish people, time and time again, have been punished for believing and practicing the way they do. I find it empowering the strength that Jewish leaders must have to keep their people's faith alive. Bar or bat mitzvah is probably the most known tradition of the Jewish faith. • 34. Reiss Pluralism Throughout the chapters of this book Reiss has done an exceptional job of depicting the nature of pluralism and expressing how the acceptance of this sex positive perspective can alleviate our current sexual crisis. The pluralistic model is rooted in the idea of personal choice and teaching individuals to not impose their views of sexuality onto others, but to accept difference even when there is disagreement. As well as this it becomes evident that pluralism offers the notion that there is no single right way of expressing sexuality, but that there are endless amounts which depend on personal interests. In discussing the characteristics of pluralism the most important perspective of this concept, in my opinion, is the acceptance of the value ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Pluralism In America America is no longer a primarily Christian nation. This has manifested itself in a multitude of ways, including but not limited to: rampant sexual immorality, abuse of mind–altering substances, disregard for human life, and an overall hatred of the concept of authority. All of these things stem back to a faulty understanding of the Biblical concept of Salvation. This faulty understanding ultimately has existed since the beginning of Christianity. All throughout church history, the false teaching regarding man's spiritual condition has reared its ugly head. One of the first recorded false teachers in this area was a British monk by the name of Pelagius. Pelagius taught that man is inherently good and that the sacrifice of Christ was ultimately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We think that Jesus was just a good teacher, or an example we should follow, and all we have to do is simply live a good life and we will get to heaven. This is false on so many levels. But it is not the only heresy in which we have to deal with to get to the root of American unbelief and/or nominalism. The next heresy that we must cover is that of "pluralism". Religious pluralism is the belief that all roads lead to heaven. This belief has been propagated by such prominent figures such as, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Joel Osteen, and Pope Francis. This is a toxic idea that upon reaching its conclusion, destroys truth. If everything is true, then why believe anything at all? Now we must move to the final heresy plaguing America. The final heresy that America has at large fallen prey to, is that of antinomianism, or "easy–believeism" which has been propagated by such men as Charles Ryrie, and Billy Graham. This believe purports that all one needs to do to enter the kingdom is to simply believe historical facts about Jesus and you will be saved. It is often adjoined to a "sinner's prayer" that is repeated en masse, and then the person who repeated the prayer is then told that they are saved and their ticket is punched for heaven. This is a damnable heresy from the pits of hell. The Bible no more teaches antinomianism than it does homosexuality. So what does the Bible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Defeat of Many by One Essay The Defeat of Many by One In The Moor's Last Sigh, Salman Rushdie uses the complex and changing character of the Moor to represent a complex and changing image of India. By making the eclectic family history of the Da– Gama Zogoiby family the central theme in the first two parts of the novel, Rushdie portrays India as a culturally and religiously pluralistic society. This pluralistic society is layered by violence caused by the corruption of multiplicity by various characters and the threat of Hindu fundamentalism. As pluralism is defeated by fascism in Part Three of the novel, the nature of the violence changes drastically and is symbolized by the Moor's significant character change: "The Moor whose tragedy–the tragedy of ... The eclectic cultural backgrounds of the Zogoiby family are representative of pluralism in India. The Da–Gamas are Portuguese Catholics while the Zogoibys are Moorish Jews. All of the Moor's ancestors blatantly reject religion and embrace secularism: an arguably important component of pluralism. When Camoens went to see Gandhi speak, he told his wife Belle, "I hear nothing. I had seen India's beauty in that crowd with its soda–water and cucumber but with that God stuff I got scared" (Rushdie 55). Another example of pluralism within the Zogoiby family is Aurora's artwork, especially her childhood paintings in which she strives to represent the variety and multiplicity in the vision of the world and the vision of India. As Aurora ages, however, her childhood visions of pluralism are significantly changed. Although Aurora's later paintings also embrace pluralism, they reveal possible catastrophe: A place where worlds collide, flow in and out of one another, and washofy away. Place where an air–man can drowno in water, or else grow gills; where a water–creature can get drunk, but also chokeofy on air. In recent events it has become evident that there is much debate about whether what is good for the employee is good for the employer and from this the speculation of whether the unitarist approach works better in the working environment or that of the pluralist. Even though the definition of the pluralist approach, which shall be defined further on, shows that it may be an advantageous approach whereas others believe otherwise and this is why this essay will argue that the unitarist approach is one worth believing in. This essay will also provide some examples that have occurred in Australia in the past twenty years. As well as compare a unitarist approach by which Australia abides to, and a pluralist approach to which the United States abides to. Human Resource Management, i.e., the unitarist approach in employee relations is referred as a rather integrated and harmonised system because the dimensional of employee relations focuses on the more integrated and strategic frameworks which focus on shared workplace interests and employee commitment. This approach is a popular one because "the unitarist perspective is one of the key employee frameworks in human resource management. In the unitarist framework, there is a singular source of authority within the organization" (Abbott, 2006, p. 191). • 42. Social Policy is a Pluralistic Process. Introduction This assignment deals with the significance involvement of the pluralistic process in making of social policy. The essay is divided into four main sections. It will first define the key terms as: social policy, pluralism, welfare; and describe the role of the social policy, pluralism, but also to make connection between this terms and their ideology. It will then go on to consider how social policy gets made; it can assess the extent to which different ideas actually become social policy. The different models will help to judge the relative influence of different groups with their different ideas. The third part compares the early social policy with the contemporary social policy and the pluralism with the other 'Power Models' of democracy in practice. Finally, some conclusions will be drawn as to sum up the main points of the essay presented and toke a particular position to express some of my opinions. Main Body First of all 'social policy entails the study of the social relations necessary for human wellbeing and the systems by which wellbeing may be promoted' (Dean, 2006: 1). A more explicit description is that social policy is a policy that deals with various social issues. Such issues may involve cultures, discrimination against race and gender and diseases that are stigmatized among many others. Just look at Riverside, California, there are over fifty churches of different denominations of Christianity, three synagogues, two temples, and one mosque; all coinciding peacefully in the city (Yellow Pages). Because Riverside is so diverse, religious pluralism and religious tolerance are two steps in making Riverside more connected. The first step is tolerance, a reflex that acknowledges a person will come across people of a different faith. The second step is pluralism, which is a better understanding of a person's religion as well as the other religions around them. Tolerance is reflexive discipline that does not require people interacting together, however most people used tolerance every day. Both pluralism and tolerance can been seen in society today as they are defined. The government is preventing pluralism, by pushing for tolerance. As America creates a social network for nations, the citizens are using tolerance, where they don't have to learn or understand, making a barrier. For instance, Madeleine Albright in The Mighty and the Almighty, noted that U.S. ambassadors did not have to understand or know about the major religion of the country they were in (Prothero 5). This is dangerous because if ambassadors do not have to understand all of the country, then how can the United States expect a citizens to understand the religions around them. America is creating a nation where many are seeing the world from a solely tolerant perspective. The media contributes to the tolerant perspective, as there is a "us" vs. "them" mentality. As Douglas W. Shrader, a professor of Philosophy at the New York State University Oneonta, says "... we must learn to listen ... because ... we might learn something about ourselves...," the piece explains when the America government can listen and learn the citizens of America can move forward into pluralism(9). • 46. Elitist Vs. Pluralist. Which Is Better? Elitist vs Pluralist. Which is better? Many things in our society today are determined by the people, by who they are in the society, what they get or receive from being that person and how they receive that certain item or award. Sometimes people, depending on the money they have or their name that everybody knows them by like Doctor, boss, founder, writer, artist and many more, determine the things they receive in this society. There are two different theories in our society on democracy. But first, I will explain what a theory is. Many people think that a theory is just something that people believe in or believe will happen. That is far from the truth about theories. The scientific method starts out as a person asking a question about a certain topic. Then the person researches that topic and learns more about it. Next the person creates a hypothesis which is an explanation of the topic and gives reasons and explains the reasoning behind the certain topic. Then you are to test your hypothesis with an experiment of some sort. The experiment has to be relevant to the hypothesis and the topic. Once you finish the experiment, come up with a conclusion. Did the results fail or succeed ? Finally, you need to write down your results. Did your experiment work or was there something that went wrong? If there was something that went wrong then you have to repeat all those steps until your hypothesis comes out succeeding. If your experiment and hypothesis succeed from the ... (Lukes, 1974:12) It emphasises the importance of the observed behaviour of those in power and analyses the effects on the wider community when making decisions (Lukes 1974:25) Lukes spends a lot of time discussing Dahl's theory of power through his own theory. In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present both "classical and vernacular traditions," within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti–elitist, as it does not distinguish between 'high' and 'low' culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at its core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few, postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first twenty minutes, we hear influences from "big band music, dubstep, hip–hop, Swan Lake and anything in between." Swan Lake is an example of 'classical' music while big band, dubstep, and hip–hop are all forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti–elitism was very important to Hatzis when composing Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect with the music, even if they aren't trained in classical music. His main consideration was to not "alienate our native population." Reconciliation art must fight against elitism in order to not alienate any audience members. I feel as if most of my encounters follow the assimilation perspective. I know specific events and encounters but, it's easy to just observe these things happening in your surroundings. The pluralist theory is pretty much the complete opposite of the assimilation theory. In this theory the certain group doesn't conform to society but, they celebrate their ethnic traditions. As we develop into a pluralistic society, social media is playing an imperative role in which it is easy to make connection with a vast number of people. But there are limitations that could arise because of this, for example not being able to create "strong ties" with the amount of "friends" we have on social media. • 62. Cultural Pluralism Sociology Robert E. Park was a huge contributor in establishing sociology in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s. His theory of assimilation was analyzing a social process and social interaction. Park argued that assimilation is inevitable in a democratic and industrial society (Healey, 2017, 50). Park strongly believed that when the American society begins to modernize, ethnic and race groups would lose importance. This theory was proven to be true in the European immigrant groups across the 20th century. Due to industrialization, the nature of work in America evolved and changed and created opportunities for upward mobility for white ethnic groups (Healey, 2017, 81). A form of upward mobility was resulted in the changes in the structure of the economy and labor market. This was called structural mobility. The descendants of European immigrants became upwardly mobile not only because of their individual ambitions and efforts but also because of the changing location or jobs and the progressively greater opportunities for education available for them (Healey, 2017, 81). Pluralism can be distinguished by two different types: cultural and structural. Cultural pluralism exists when groups have not acculturated and each maintains its own identity. The groups might speak different languages, practice different religions, and have different value systems (Healey, 2017, 55). The Amish are a perfect representation of a cultural pluralism. You might not be able to tell but when you're walking down the street there are people from all over the world that are walking around you, and not just that, there are people that may have the complete opposite religion that you have. You might not like that very well but it is a matter of America being pluralistic. In many people's eyes America is not truly pluralistic, but the right people see that America is how you want it be. Meaning the people have to make the decision whether it is pluralistic or not, and it has not become a fact whether or not is or not yet. Pluralism is a society, system of government, or organization that has multiple groups to save their identities while being with other groups. Rather than having just one group or culture, determining how things are going to go, pluralism notices a larger number of fighting groups that think they all share the same power. Pluralism serves as a example of equality, where different groups can voice their opinions and ideas. A pluralistic society is a diverse one, where the people in it believe all kinds of different things and tolerate each other's beliefs even when they don't match their own. (Vocabulary.com). Today I'm here tell you the positive of pluralist system. Especially from books of the Federalist 10 and on the use that Americans Make of Association in Civil Life. I will now critically evaluated these books. In hopes to show how positive this system of society is. In the federalist papers number ten James Madison main concern is that of factions. Madison feared not the wealthy or powerful but the poor. This partly from shays rebellion he feels this way because the rich are small and exclusive to one another but poor are one of many. You can relate this to many situations in America. One of these the examples is players strike in NFL as they felt they were not getting paid equally enough for enduring the hard seasons in the football league the owners had come gather and pay the players. Kind of like shays rebellion. Among the laws that rule human societies there is one that seems more precise and clearer than all the others.
