Executive Summary
According to Joseph M. Mula's article, "there was a recent announcement that several ERP
providers have pronounced to become significant players in cloud computing. They were all shifting
from being software as a service (SaaS) provider to a platform as a service (PaaS) provider. They

Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Adapted from content excerpted from the American Express® OPEN Small Business Network
Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it, you run the risk
of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on opportunities to expand. When
you are devising or revising your bookkeeping routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping
is to help you manage your business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As
long as your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can – and should – be as simple as
possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for how to keep

Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check for the total.
Write cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this from taxable income.
Alternatively, you can keep a petty cash record by writing a check to petty cash and keeping a log of
each expense paid out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory
holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small–ticket items –– for example, as in a stationary store –– you might
want to use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by
having a POS (point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do
it yourself on paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item
purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable
tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later
date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts
receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable
record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

connected with the manufacturing management. The software uses Kanban method of Just–in–Time

The theory stated that there is no universal or one best way to manage, the design of an organization
and its subsystems must 'fit' with the environment. The needs of an organization are better satisfied
when it is properly designed and the management style is appropriate both to the tasks undertaken
and the nature of the work group. (Fiedler, 1964) The optimal organization style is contingent upon
various internal and external constraints. This can be applying on accounting practices, as
accounting practices have extensive effects on the organization as a whole and the workers involved
with. Accounting has long been seen as linked to the attempts by various actors and agencies to
promote themselves, to sell their wares, to argue for anything that benefits them, and to get others to
follow them or think in their terms. It is central to the creation of specific patterns of organizational
visibility. While there are many contingencies that could be considered within a business
environment, early theorists identified four key areas; external environment, technology, structure
and size (Chenhall, 2003). For an example, in the case study, introducing the ERP system is a
technological contingent and how the implementation of it that changed the working culture and
environment is an environment contingent.

Accounting And Payroll Application Software Packages Essay
The accounting software, is a computer software that records and processes accounting transactions
within practical components such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and trial
balance. The software may be developed by the organization using it, may be purchased from a third
party or may be a combination of both. Today's packaged accounting software not only records
financial transactions and produce accounting reports, but they include functionality for managerial
decision making aimed at gaining competitive advantage. (Collins, 2006). Many of the accounting

Hardware and Software Selection
There is a necessity to have either hardware or software to integrate the accounting information into
an automated system for viewing by the proper individuals. Below, Learning Team A will show who
needs to access this information, what controls will be implemented, the type of reports to be
generated from these hardware or software and importantly what type of information will be

A detective control is designed to uncover an undesired problem that has transpired. This control is
necessary when the preventive control has failed (Dunn, et al, 2004). The third is the corrective
control, which is designed to restore a system to an approved or last known good state. A company
usually establishes corrective controls to remedy problems that are discovered by the detective
controls. One advisable procedure that can be implemented for this control is establishing training
programs that can teach employees how to use the new automated system that can help them
perform their job functions more efficiently and effectively.
It is necessary to recognize that any control strategy has to be tailored to address the risks to
objectives that management identifies as unacceptable for the integration. The objective should be
detecting risks that are materially threatening the goals of the organization and to reduce them to the
point that management is more willing to accept.
Reports
With regard to software and which one is best when dealing with accounts receivable, there are
many different programs available. The main thing the company must look at when purchasing
software is that the system works for the company. There are many reports that are useful to
companies within the Accounts Receivable cycle. We will name the one report that is the most
important and gives the most information on monies owed to the company.

Using Software And Its Integration With Regular Cost...
Reports produced by an ABC system contain information, such as product margins, that vary from
the information reported for a traditional cost method. It's also possible that some activity–based
costs may be irrelevant in certain decision–making scenarios; for example, ABC does not conform
to accounting standards and should not be used for external reporting. Since traditional cost figures
tend to be the norm, interpreting ABC data along with regular accounting information can be
confusing and lead to bad decision–making. The use of software can streamline the process of
maintaining an ABC system and simplify its integration with regular cost accounting information.
(Eileen, nd.)
Even for smaller businesses, the implementation of an activity–based costing system can be a
substantial undertaking. The added precision of the activity–based system can only be achieved if
the small business owner is willing to put in the time to analyse the manufacturing process with
enough detail to determine how overhead costs are incurred. Due to the difficulty of
implementation, many small business owners don 't believe the benefit of an activity–based system
outweighs the costs. (John, nd.)
Other than ABC, balanced scorecard is also design for the change of the management accounting.
According to Olve and Sjèostrand (2002) a balanced scorecard is a format for describing activities
of an organisation through a number of measures for four perspectives: financial, customer, internal

I Am A Candidate For Aas's Accounting At St. Paul College...
I am a candidate for AAS in Accounting at St. Paul College and University in Minneapolis,
Minnesota for a full degree in accounting. It is my long term goal to be a financial consultant.
Nowadays, the business world is changing at a faster and faster pace. The reasons for this faster pace
are "globalization", information technology, and the faster pace in technological change. The role of
IT has shifted over the last decades to become an important part of how firms manage and control
their resources. As the result, IT plays a critical role in accounting. IT is the platform for accounting
data and it allows certain sophisticated queries to be performed though, IT clearly plays an
important role in accounting functions. The impact of IT in firms is broad and manifested in the
most varied ways in the integrated systems, which includes ERP systems, internet, intranet, and so
on, walk hand in hand with the firm know–how. These technologies have altered the way firms work
and their accounting functions. However, the constant growing and changing field of IT has had an
important impact on all levels of the firm's organization. In this context, the term "information
management" has emerged as the most common name. As rue result, management information
systems were developed to support the new role of accountant. This new role forced accountants to
become the interpreter of information and to deal with the information overload. Now, the

The Accounting Software Installation Project (from Larson, E.E., and Gray, C.F., 2011 Project
Management – the managerial process, fifth edition p441) Sitting in her office, Karin Chung is
reviewing the past four months of the large corporate accounting software installation project she
has been managing. Everything seemed so well planned before the project started. Each company
division had a task force that provided input into the proposed installation along with potential
problems. All the different divisions had been trained and briefed on exactly how their division
would interface and use the forthcoming accounting software. All six contractors, which included

While concerned, Karin considered these problems typical of the kind she had encountered on other
smaller software projects. Case FOUR MONTHS LATER The project seemed to be falling apart.
What happened to the positive attitude fostered at the team–building workshop? One contractor
wrote a formal letter complaining that another contractor was sitting on a coding decision that was
delaying their work. The letter went on: "We cannot be held responsible or liable for delays caused
by others." The project was already two months behind, so problems were becoming very real and
serious. Karin finally decided to call a meeting of all parties to the project and partnering agreement.
She began by asking for problems people were encountering while working on the project. Although
participants were reluctant to be first for fear of being perceived as a complainer, it was not long
before accusations and tempers flared out of control. It was always some group complaining about
another group. Several participants complained that others were sitting on decisions that resulted in
their work being held up. One consultant said, "It is impossible to tell who's in charge of what."
Another participant complained that although the group met separately on small problems, it never

Computer Languages And Programming Frameworks
INRODUCTION Early accounting software was bespoke, painstakingly handcrafted literally byte
by byte over the course of months. While it represented an obvious step forward from employing
hordes of people chugging away on adding machines and carrying stacks of paper all over the place,
there was still a great deal of room for improvement. As time passed, computer capacity grew to
enable the use of higher–level development tools. These allowed people to define and encode
business rules without needing to understand everything down to the basic wiring of the machine.
True computer languages and programming frameworks followed. Probably the first report
generation "language" was developed in 1959 for the IBM 7090 and known as "9PAC". At the time,
storing and accessing structured data on computers was still in its infancy, and some concepts from
9PAC formed key parts of the development of early relational databases. Throughout the 1960s,
companies invested in producing proprietary accounting systems tailored to their particular
requirements. Jobs would be run in "batch" mode, often overnight, with only a select few permitted
to see or access the computer directly (frequently, this did not even include the programmers!)
However, computers continued to grow in capability, and the idea of building one generalized
application with flexible features which could be customized to each client's needs became reality in
1973 with the introduction of SAP RF. Over time SAP's product

Case Study :Xero and Mcdonald's Essay
Introduction
Xero and McDonald's are two objects that will be analyzed in this essay. In terms of Xero, an online
accounting software company, the essay will focus on Xero's business strategy by using Porter's five
forces model and Xero's sources of competitive advantages by using Porter's value chain model.
Also, the roles and competencies of CIO, CTO and CPO will be discussed in the case of
Macdonald's Australia. Finally, based on Macdonald's, it will analyze the importance of information

Furthermore, outsourcing the accounting work to accountants or accounting firms may lead to
privacy risks and developing an internal accounting system is infeasible to small enterprises in
respect of costs and human resources.
Thus, there are few outside threats to accounting software in terms of substitute products at the
present.
1.5 Intensity of rivalry among competitors
Intensive rivalries are common in industries with many equally balanced companies. According to
the research of accounting software, there are at least 20 free and open source software and 60
proprietary accounting software in worldwide, which means more firms have to compete for the
same customers.
Top Ten Reviews website illustrates top rated accounting software of 2013. Xero ranks ninth overall
although its price per month is the lowest in top ten. More specifically, visible dimensions on which
rivalry is based are not only price, but also switching costs. Low switching costs (i.e. low levels of
product differentiation) is another significant factor associated with higher levels of rivalry. Buyers
frequently purchase the product or service loyally when they find a unique product that satisfies
their needs. Although Xero intends to differentiate itself from others by providing related services,

II. Computerized Accounting
Computers play a big role in every modern business especially in the field of accounting.
Computerized accounting has become popular nowadays. According to Mr Avinash the

As a financial analyst intern I had the opportunity to work closely with the financial manager. The

Inventory Records Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things. If you sell a large number of small–ticket items –– for example, as in a stationary store –– you might want to use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by having a POS (point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on paper. The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price. Accounts Receivable If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The needs of an organization are better satisfied when it is properly designed and the management style is appropriate both to the tasks undertaken and the nature of the work group. (Fiedler, 1964) The optimal organization style is contingent upon various internal and external constraints. This can be applying on accounting practices, as accounting practices have extensive effects on the organization as a whole and the workers involved with. Accounting has long been seen as linked to the attempts by various actors and agencies to promote themselves, to sell their wares, to argue for anything that benefits them, and to get others to follow them or think in their terms. It is central to the creation of specific patterns of organizational visibility. While there are many contingencies that could be considered within a business environment, early theorists identified four key areas; external environment, technology, structure and size (Chenhall, 2003). • 48. Using Software And Its Integration With Regular Cost... Reports produced by an ABC system contain information, such as product margins, that vary from the information reported for a traditional cost method. It's also possible that some activity–based costs may be irrelevant in certain decision–making scenarios; for example, ABC does not conform to accounting standards and should not be used for external reporting. Since traditional cost figures tend to be the norm, interpreting ABC data along with regular accounting information can be confusing and lead to bad decision–making. The use of software can streamline the process of maintaining an ABC system and simplify its integration with regular cost accounting information. (Eileen, nd.) Even for smaller businesses, the implementation of an activity–based costing system can be a substantial undertaking. The added precision of the activity–based system can only be achieved if the small business owner is willing to put in the time to analyse the manufacturing process with enough detail to determine how overhead costs are incurred. Due to the difficulty of implementation, many small business owners don 't believe the benefit of an activity–based system outweighs the costs. (John, nd.) Nowadays, the business world is changing at a faster and faster pace. The reasons for this faster pace are "globalization", information technology, and the faster pace in technological change. The role of IT has shifted over the last decades to become an important part of how firms manage and control their resources. As the result, IT plays a critical role in accounting. IT is the platform for accounting data and it allows certain sophisticated queries to be performed though, IT clearly plays an important role in accounting functions. The impact of IT in firms is broad and manifested in the most varied ways in the integrated systems, which includes ERP systems, internet, intranet, and so on, walk hand in hand with the firm know–how. Essay about Accounting Software Installation Project The Accounting Software Installation Project (from Larson, E.E., and Gray, C.F., 2011 Project Management – the managerial process, fifth edition p441) Sitting in her office, Karin Chung is reviewing the past four months of the large corporate accounting software installation project she has been managing. Everything seemed so well planned before the project started. Each company division had a task force that provided input into the proposed installation along with potential problems. While concerned, Karin considered these problems typical of the kind she had encountered on other smaller software projects. Case FOUR MONTHS LATER The project seemed to be falling apart. What happened to the positive attitude fostered at the team–building workshop? One contractor wrote a formal letter complaining that another contractor was sitting on a coding decision that was delaying their work. The letter went on: "We cannot be held responsible or liable for delays caused by others." The project was already two months behind, so problems were becoming very real and serious. Karin finally decided to call a meeting of all parties to the project and partnering agreement. She began by asking for problems people were encountering while working on the project. Although participants were reluctant to be first for fear of being perceived as a complainer, it was not long before accusations and tempers flared out of control. It was always some group complaining about another group. Several participants complained that others were sitting on decisions that resulted in their work being held up. One consultant said, "It is impossible to tell who's in charge of what." Another participant complained that although the group met separately on small problems, it never met as a total ... • 56. Computer Languages And Programming Frameworks INRODUCTION Early accounting software was bespoke, painstakingly handcrafted literally byte by byte over the course of months. While it represented an obvious step forward from employing hordes of people chugging away on adding machines and carrying stacks of paper all over the place, there was still a great deal of room for improvement. As time passed, computer capacity grew to enable the use of higher–level development tools. These allowed people to define and encode business rules without needing to understand everything down to the basic wiring of the machine. True computer languages and programming frameworks followed. Probably the first report generation "language" was developed in 1959 for the IBM 7090 and known as "9PAC". At the time, storing and accessing structured data on computers was still in its infancy, and some concepts from 9PAC formed key parts of the development of early relational databases. Throughout the 1960s, companies invested in producing proprietary accounting systems tailored to their particular requirements. Jobs would be run in "batch" mode, often overnight, with only a select few permitted to see or access the computer directly (frequently, this did not even include the programmers!) However, computers continued to grow in capability, and the idea of building one generalized application with flexible features which could be customized to each client's needs became reality in 1973 with the introduction of SAP RF. Over time SAP's product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
