This video from youtube taken from the scene of the riots allows us to see the
destruction and vandalism of property and also shows various shots of people
around the scene. The shots of people around the scene show males and females
of various color and race in hoodies ‘strutting’ around the area that has been
vandalized, quite calmly. The effect of this footage gives the viewers the idea that
the youth of today are rebellious and do not care about how other people are
affected by their actions and they have no sense of selfness. The police stand
back watching one of their cars go up into flames almost as if they are useless
and are simply stood waiting for the next outbreak, this again gives the viewers
the idea that the police are harmless and therefore leads to the question ‘if the
people whom we are supposed to feel protected and safe by cant do anything to
stop them, who will?’

This particular youtube video focuses in on the police and the actions that they
had to take in order to try settle the violence and crowds in London. Various
shots show many different kinds of police in uniform giving the idea that the
rioting had gotten that out of control it was taking more than one type of police
force to stop it. Through the use of footage showing the youths kicking in a shop
window and the police arriving to them running away it creates the feeling that
to the youths this is one big game, they’re creating as much attention on
themselves as they can so that the police eventually bite and come to the rescue.
This furthermore leads to the reasoning of the riots and that it seems that it has
all been lost and people are just joining in because it seems the ‘cool’ thing to do,
this is stereotypically found in teenagers and youth of this current day and age,
as if you’re not involved then you’re simply not ‘cool’.

It’s in this video where we see the seriousness of the rioting, when it was at its
highest peak and London was up in flames. You see various buildings and buses
on fire and also a shot of two rioters flinging more rubble into the fire to
encourage it. From this video you see the destructive and dangerous side to the
rioters, you see the potential harm and danger that is being created for everyone
on the streets of London and how even though the building is up in flames the
rioters want more. This video gives the viewer a feeling of uneasiness and
represents youths as having no compassion or sense of direction in life as they
are destroying the city in which they live in without a care in the world
endangering people’s lives because they can. It shows them all as individuals
who are not mature in a sense to say enough is enough and abusing the slight
power that they conceived.

This video shows a news report of the police harming a bystander when being
attacked by rioters with rocks. This video allows us to see that the police are now
not sure which youths to trust and gives the idea that so many youths are now
joining in with the riots that everybody is a suspect. It shows that the youth of
the day have lost their rights no matter what race or background and even
2. though the man was only walking towards him he was amongst the violence that
was occurring and was therefore casted as a suspect.
