The Brief:
To produce a 2 minute movie opening of a film from the slasher genre which
we have to film and produce by ourselves
Black Nightmare is targeted at the teen audience, 15 – 24
years, because this is mainly what the slasher genre is
aimed at. A good example of this is Friday The 13th, where
the teen audience would find it easier to relate to as the
casting in Friday The 13th are also mainly of the teen age,
and with Black Nightmare the casting are also of the teen
age so our audience can relate to it as with Friday The 13th.
SYNOPSIS:
The killer is a deranged butcher who has an obsession with
this girl and then goes on to kill her, whiles later it is
revealed that his obsession hasn’t just been with this one
girl but with many and all his victims have been similar in
some sort of way, and this is shown when we see that the
killer keeps a record of all his past and future victims. In
this film we see the killer’s victim was just walking home
with her friend until she leaves her friend and goes home
2. alone but doesn’t make it, and what we find out later is that the friend that
she was with was the killer’s next victim.
MISE-EN-SCENE:
. The killer’s weapon is vital in Black Nightmare as it’s a meat cleaver which
is what butchers use when chopping up their meat so it also gives us some
exposition with the killer about how he’s a butcher. Also the old butcher’s
block will be important along with the meat cleaver to
assist this exposition of the killer being a butcher.
. The killer’s mask is also important in the slasher
genre as its common for the killer to be masked and
we’ve chosen a black mask which is where the title
Black Nightmare evolved from.
. Also the corkboard that we’ll be using is important as
it will have all the pictures of the killer’s victims on
and showing how he’s been stalking his victims.
. The location and setting for Black Nightmare is
also vital as it gives it the more realistic feel to
it, because we’ve going to use a garage and close
it off with sheets for the killer’s room, and then
for the victim’s house’s that the killer has been
stalking it’ll give the hand of fate feel to the
audience, as the house will be middle classed so
allowing the audience to relate to it more.
CHARACTERS:
. THE KILLER - BEN BREARLEY:
Our killer will be a masked butcher, a good example of this is in
Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Leatherface as the masked
butcher killer, and our character is big and broad which is
common in slasher killers.
. SCREAM QUEEN – MELISSA ELAM:
The stereotypicical scream queen is blonde, sexually active, immoral, and busty, However we have
chosen to go for the countertype scream queen where she’s brunette and not sexually active.
. FINAL GIRL –
The stereotypical final girl is usually well educated, brunette, and not
sexually active, where as in our film we’re going for the countertype.
3. alone but doesn’t make it, and what we find out later is that the friend that
she was with was the killer’s next victim.
