2. RESEARCH
In the genre research section of this coursework I used search engines, blogs and video
streaming services such as google and youtube to gain knowledge of the genre and identify
how successful previous products use conventions and how I could do the same . I watched
pre-existing horror trailers (You’re Next, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Mama, The Innkeeper)
and used them in my focus groups to help me establish what makes a successfully effective
horror trailer.
I also used word processing software to analyse the products and identify positive and
negative points about them in detail with reference to the technical areas. This was a good
way to record the information for me to look back on. I then uploaded my written analysis with
slideshare.
3. In the Audience research section I used a lot of online survey websites and social media to
encourage my target audience to tell me what they expected from the genre and how to
recreate successful marketing products for it. I created a questionnaire with SurveyMonkey
and embedded it in my blog aswell as linking it on facebook and twitter to encourage more
people to give me feedback. I also used youtube again with a video camera to conduct a
focus group and get more specific details about previous products.
4. PLANNING
In the planning stage a lot of my work was done by hand on paper so a scanner was used to
convert it to a digital format and present my storyboards and sketches with my plans on my
blog as .Jpg images. I scanned my storyboards and used a word document to write up my
script.
I also used iMovie to present my storyboard in the form of an animatic to give a better idea of
how long each shot will last. I then uploaded this to youtube to embed on my blog.
5. PRODUCTION
During the production video cameras and cameras were used to get the footage and images
used in my products. I also used Windows Movie Maker and Photoshop in order to edit the
products to appear more conventional and be more effective.
6. I cut the scenes together in a very chronological order to try to show the narrative very clearly.
7. I also used the post production editing to control the brightness and contrast of the shots to
make the shots of the antagonist darker to reinforce the connotations of mystery and danger
that I wanted to associate with her character.
Where as the shots with the protagonists are slightly brighter and clearer.
8. While making the poster and magazine cover I used Photoshop which allowed me to control
the size and brightness of the image as well as pasting fonts from fontspace into the image to
create my cover lines, masthead and all other information on the magazine cover as well as
the title, release date and credits on the poster.
9. EVALUATION
In my evaluation section I used the same websites and services I used to gain audience
feedback throughout my work, Survey Monkey and WallWisher. I also embedded the final
version of my trailer from youtube.
10. This allowed me to gain feedback entirely over the internet which made the process a lot
faster and more efficient.
I also used Prezi and SlideShare to present what I found out about how effective my product
is which allowed me to show my results in an interesting way using Prezi’s premade layouts.
11. I also embedded the final version of my trailer from youtube.
