The Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society
(APAS) recently invited Dr. Mody to
deliver keynote lectures at the interna-
tional conference held in Xiamen, Chi-
na – from 26 to 29 August 2019.
In a surgeon’s career listening to lec-
tures by world experts is extremely im-
portant to keep on adding to his knowl-
edge. Dr. Kshitij Mody has the rare
opportunity to have a world recognized
Guru as his own father! It was a learn-
ing moment, as well as a proud mo-
ment for Dr. Kshitij Mody to hear and
learn from the lectures delivered by the
senior Dr. Bharat Mody at the Xiamen
conference.
The father–son duo are making their
presence felt on the national platforms
as well. Dr. Bharat Mody was invited
at the Indian Arthroplasty Association
(IAA) annual conference in Mumbai as
a senior faculty. Dr. Kshitij Mody also
attended the conference.

5. After a Complex Revision Knee Surgery, Mr Joshi says he has been given a new life!
Mr Bharatbhai Joshi had been oper-
ated on his knee for a primary knee re-
placement and then revision surgeries
more times than he could remember.
When he arrived at Welcare Hospital on
a wheelchair, he looked like a man who
had lost all hope. He hadn’t walked on
his own feet in over a year and had lost
the will to live.
When the Ortho Team at Welcare
examined Mr Joshi, they realized that
the previous surgeon had attempted a
very difficult surgery and failed miser-
ably. In a desperate attempt to salvage
what was left, the surgeon had tried his
best to place a cement block inside the
knee to provide whatever little stability
to the joint that was possible. Unfortu-
nately, this attempt was unsuccessful as
well.
The extent of damage can be seen
very clearly on comparing Mr Joshi’s
x-rays to the x-rays of a normal knee
joint as seen in the pictures provided.
This was an extremely difficult case
by any standards and hence orthopaedic
surgeons all over the country had re-
jected Mr Joshi. The patient had given
up and believed he would never walk
again but his family urged him to keep
trying…and so they did!
Once the team at Welcare Hospital
had analysed and discussed the case
in detail, they assured Mr Joshi that he
would walk on his own two feet again.
After an extremely demanding and
complex surgery when Mr Joshi and
his family were informed that the sur-
gery was a big success, they could not
help but shed tears of joy. Along with
a brand new functioning leg as seen in
the x-ray below, Mr Joshi said that he
had been given a new life!
