This document compares three major film distribution companies - Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Brothers - and analyzes which would be the best fit for the author's film. Warner Brothers is identified as the best option due to its successful action films targeting similar audiences, its high production values and budgets exemplified by films like Harry Potter, and its strong reputation and profits compared to the other companies. The target audience for the author's film is identified as older teenagers and young adults due to its prison-based 18-rated subject matter.
2. ABOUT SOME SUCCSESSFUL FILM DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES
SONY PICTURES
• Some of Sony Pictures more successful films are;
Skyfall, Spider Man and Spectre (I).
• After having a $962 million impairment charge,
Sony delivered a $440 million profit last year.
20TH CENTURY FOX
• One of the ‘big six’ in Hollywood.
• Some films that the company has produced are;
Avatar, The Greatest Showman and Diary of a
Wimpy Kid.
WARNER BROTHERS
• Warner Brothers is part of the ‘big six’ in
Hollywood who dominate the film industry.
• In 2017, Warner Bros made $5.12billion,
making it the eleventh year that the
company crossed the $3billion mark.
• Some successful films the company has
distributed are; The Dark Night, Harry
Potter and Wonder Women.
• Warner Bros is the subsidiary of its
conglomerate Time Warner.
3. COMPARING THE COMPANIES TO
MY FILM
SONY PICTURES
• The films Skyfall, Spectre (I) and Spider man all share
similar conventions to my film as they are all action films.
Their target audience is older which the same as the
target audience to my film.
• Sony Pictures is a high production company, Skyfall had
a production budget of $150 million, and made $1 billion
20TH CENTURY FOX
• The films Avatar, The Greatest Showman and Diary of a
Wimpy Kid don’t have any conventions in common with
my film as they are targeted at a younger audience and
aren’t similar genres to my film.
• The company is high production, The Greatest Showman
having a production budget of $84 million.
WARNER BROS.
• The films The Dark Night, Wonder Women
and Harry Potter share some conventions
with my film as I think they are directed to
the same age group and target audience as
mine. Also The Dark Night and Wonder
Women are both action films which is the
same as my film.
• Warner Bros. produces successful high
budget films. The company has high
production values as the quality of their
products is high. For example, Harry Potters
production budget was $150 million. The
Harry Potter franchise produced $10million.
4. THE BEST COMPANY FOR MY
FILM
WARNER BROTHERS
Warner Brothers would be the best production company for
my film as it produces extremely successful action films. Also
some of it’s most famous films such as Spider Man and The
Dark Night have a wide range of target audience, including
mainly teenagers and young adults.
Warner Brothers also has the biggest profit out of the three
companies. Harry Potter being a perfect example of this. It’s
production budget being around $150 million and producing
$10 billion.
Also Sony Pictures lost much of their reputation due to the
money loss, however Warner Brothers has a very good
reputation.
5. TARGET AUDIENCE
• My target audience for my sequence would be
older teenagers and young adults. This is
because the film would be about prison and
would have a rating of 18.
• As the film is based in a prison, it may contain
sensitive topics and violence, only appropriate
for older viewers.
