1. Fixing What is Missing
Text: Titus according to 2Tim 3:16-17
Titus 1:5
5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou
shouldest
1. set in order the things that are
wanting,
and
2.ordain elders in every city,
as I had appointed thee:
2. 2Tim 3:16-17
16All scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
17That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.
I. Doctrine- Titus 1:9
Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he
hath been taught, that he may be able by sound
doctrine both to exhort and to convince the
gainsayers.
3. Book of Rom-
Romans makes the whole world guilty
before God and in need of salvation through
Jesus Christ.
Rom1:20
For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even
his eternal power and Godhead; so that they
are without excuse:
Rom10:3
For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and going about to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted
themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4. Rom11:25
For I would not, brethren, that ye should
be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should
be wise in your own conceits; that blindness
in part is happened to Israel, until the
fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Doctrine is the anchor on which all the
Christian life must be fastened.
II. Reproof- Titus 1:10-13
Titus 1:10-13 10 For there are many unruly
and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of
the circumcision: 11 Whose mouths must be
stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching
5. things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's
sake. 12 One of themselves, even a prophet of
their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars,
evil beasts, slow bellies. 13 This witness is true.
Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may
be sound in the faith;
Book of 1Cor
The Corinthian church had five issues for which
Paul gave clear reproof:
1Cor 11:18-19
18 For first of all,
when ye come together in the church, I hear that
there be divisions among you; and I partly
believe it.
19 For there must be also heresies among you,
that they which are approved may be made
manifest among you.
6. 1Cor 5:1
It is reported commonly that there is
fornication among you, and such fornication as
is not so much as named among the Gentiles,
that one should have his father's wife.
1Cor 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know
ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the
whole lump?
1Cor 7:1 Now concerning the things
whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a
man not to touch a woman.
1Cor 8:1
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we
know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge
puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
7. 1Cor 12:1
Now concerning spiritual GIFTS, brethren, I
would not have you ignorant.
1Cor 16:1
Now concerning the collection for the saints,
as I have given order to the churches of Galatia,
even so do ye.
1Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week
let every one of you lay by him in store, as
God hath prospered him, that there be no
gatherings when I come.
2Cor 9:7 Every man according as he
purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a
cheerful giver.
8. III. Correction- Titus 1:14-16
Titus 1:14-16 14 Not giving heed to Jewish
fables, and commandments of men, that turn
from the truth.
15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto
them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing
pure; but even their mind and conscience is
defiled.
16 They profess that they know God; but in
works they deny him, being abominable, and
disobedient, and unto every good work
reprobate.
9. Book of Gal
Gal 1:6
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him
that called you into the grace of Christ unto
another gospel:
Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone
throughout Phrygia and the region of
Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy
Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
Acts 18:23 And after he had spent some
time there, he departed, and went over all
the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order,
strengthening all the disciples.
10. IV. Instruction in Righteousness- Titus 2:1-5
Titus 2:1-5 1 But speak thou the things
which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate,
sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in
behaviour as becometh holiness, not false
accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of
good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be
sober, to love their husbands, to love their
children,
11. 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good,
obedient to their own husbands, that the word
of God be not blasphemed.
Book of Eph
Eph 1:19
And what is the exceeding greatness of his
power to us-ward who believe, according to
the working of his mighty power,
Eph 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God
hath before ordained that we should walk in
them.
Eph 3:7
Whereof I was made a minister, according
to the gift of the grace of God given unto me
by the effectual working of his power.
12. Eph 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding
abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that worketh in us,
Eph 4:28
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather
let him labour, working with his hands the
thing which is good, that he may have to
give to him that needeth.
V. Throughly Furnished unto All Good
Works- Titus 3:5-8
13. Titus 3:5-8 5 Not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to his
mercy he saved us, by the washing of
regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through
Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should
be made heirs according to the hope of eternal
life.
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I
will that thou affirm constantly, that they
which have believed in God might be careful to
MAINTAIN good works. These things are
good and profitable unto men.
Book of Phil
Phil 1:14
And many of the brethren in the Lord,
waxing confident by my bonds, are much
more bold to speak the word without fear.
14. Phil 2:3
Let nothing be done through strife or
vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each
esteem other better than themselves.
Phil 2:13-14
13 For it is God which worketh in you
both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and
disputings:
Phil 2:16
Holding forth the word of life; that I may
rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not
run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
Phil 4:10
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now
at the last your care of me hath flourished
again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye
lacked opportunity.
15. Phil 4:17
Not because I desire a gift: but I desire
fruit that may abound to your account.
