INTRODUCTION
The nextgen library technology- automation, digitization,
e-publication, internet usage, web tools, consortium
practice- collecting, storage, organizing, processing, and
disseminating.
The next prime level IT services and products is to a
vast hosting and delivering of cloud based computing
beyond the library walls.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the present study are-
Having an overview on cloud computing.
To aware about the history, similar concepts and
characteristics of clouds.
To aware about the types, state of the art and various
research issues of cloud.
Finally to aware about various applications of cloud in
the libraries.
CLOUD COMPUTING
A service through virtual machines.
Increases and enriches the usefulness of the resources.
A virtual space to provide access through web enable
device.
Focused on demand based service at low cost.
Past to Present
Dumb terminals  Commercial telecommunication and
internet  IBM & Microsoft  Server architecture
Amazon cloud.

APPLICATION IN LIBRARIES
Automation
Digitization
Web Hosting
Reduce daily workload by performing
day to day work with small medium
and large storage and backup from
anytime and any web enable device.
Data
Efficiency and
File Storage
Data store monitor and disseminate
with daily backup to prevent crush.
Community
Power
With access and share to scholarly
content to promote consortium using
social networks.
CLOUD V/S ON-PREMISE
Sl No Criteria On-premise Cloud
1 Capital expenses (one time) 2,78,500 1,30,500
2 Operational expenses 3,29,000 2,87,000
3 Hours system is operational Office hours 24*7/365
4 Time to recover from server
crush
5 days 2 hours
5 Time to recover from S/W crush 1 day 10 minutes
6 Maintenance done during Working hours Non-working hours
7 Data Backup Manual Automatic
8 Support calls (per year) 3-5 Unlimited
CONCLUSION
Being the 3rd evaluation.
Browse e-version of the acquired materials.
Transform and archive to digital materials.
Promote and encourage shared platform.
Internal and external links beyond walls.
Issues like, power cutting, storage crush, lack of technical
manpower, slow internet connection, conservative towards
resource sharing, data access problem.
It provides a large array of benefits
