The evaluation for practical production
1. The evaluation for practical production
By Wael Ali 11B
The challenge we were set was to produce three different pieces of advertisements to
promote a brand new perfume product. When we were set this challenge, I thought to
myself "oh no. I'm going to do really bad in this." However, right from the first task, I realized
that I'm not going to struggle, and that I'm going to get on with this challenge really well.
My three perfume ads are aimed at a strong, confident and reassured man who is
within the ages of 20-30 years. He is a seriously hard working professional, with a
very high disposable income, educated, middle class man. My three ads will feature
the same model, as well as the same font and perfume bottle, to insure they will
share a symbiotic link, and to insure the target audience of the ad will start to feel
drawn in to the ad, making them have and urge to go out and buy the perfume.
Within the three ads, the model will be in the same cloths, and will be standing in
front of a white background. However, he will be adopting a different pose in each
advertisement.
As I would be advertising the same fragrance, in three different ads, it was decided
that there should be a symbiotic link across the three products. For example, they
should all include the same model, the same font and the same perfume bottle.
Theorist Gillian Dyer says "all perfume ads should appeal to the desires of audiences
in order to encourage sales of the product itself". We see this in the vast majority of
the perfume ads we see. From the beginning of the project, we all knew that we
were striving to achieve something like that, in our own ads. My target audience is
strong, confident and reassured man who is within the ages of 20-30 years. He is a
seriously hard working professional, with a very high disposable income, educated,
middle class man.
Throughout my research and planning, I looked at different ads to see the different
codes and conventions they use. Right away, I realized that they all speak to their
target audiences from their images. There is very little text, they include: brand
name, name of the perfume and sometimes a copy. The perfume bottle is always
found in the bottom right. When we first look at a perfume ad, we are first drawn in
to the image, as it dominates the frame, our eyes then realize the text at the bottom
of the page, and lastly, the perfume bottle in the bottom right corner is the last thing
out eyes will see.
Moreover, I noticed that all the perfume ads reflect the scent of their perfume
through their images. For example, 'moschino' by Glamour, shows us that it is quite a
masculine scent through the pose of the female model and the type of background. I
used this idea to my advantage by following its layout. When I took my images, I
made sure that my model looks big and strong, to reflect the scent of my perfume.
2. My three ads show off men in a positive way. The way my model poses suggests that
he is a confident and reassured man who knows what he is doing. The way the
model wears the costume, with his jacket open and his sleeves rolled up, suggests to
me that he is hard working man who lives a normal life.
I am positive that my ads will appeal to my target audience. By the way the model
poses; we can tell he is a hard worker who wants only the best results possible. By
the way he poses, he shows strength and masculinity and confidence.
I am proud with my ads that I have ended up with. However, if I could do it again, I
would change the colours so it would suit the style of the scent. Also I would change
the font and the perfume bottle so it would reflect the model and the perfume even
more, so that when people see it, they feel like going out immediately to buy it.
I have found this project exceedingly pleasurable and I am happy with my three ads.
The part of the project which I found most enjoyable was when I was posing for my
Images, as I could see whether I could have a career as a model in the future! I have
learnt how to use Adobe photo shop and the different ways of how I can edit my
images. In the future, I would love to produce a trailer for a new movie.
