The King Great Goodness Part 2 ~ Mahasilava Jataka (Eng. & Chi.).pptx
Three Baptisms
1. A Prayer For The People of God
Guardian of the weak, through the teachings of your prophets
you have claimed our cities, towns, and homes
as temples of your presence, and
called them to be citadels of your justice.
Turn the places we live into strongholds of your grace,
that the most vulnerable, as well as
the most powerful among us
may find peace in the true security
that comes only in the strong name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
4. I baptize you with water
for repentance, but one who is more
powerful than I is coming after me;
I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
He will baptize you with
the Holy Spirit and fire.
MATTHEW 3:11
5. Now when all the people were baptized,
and when Jesus also had been baptized
and was praying, the heavens were
opened, and the Holy Spirit descended
upon him in bodily form like a dove. And
a voice came from heaven, “You are my
beloved Son; with you I am well pleased…”
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from
the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the
wilderness, where…he was tempted…
LUKE 3:21-22; 4:1-2
7. ACTS 19:4; ROMANS 6:4
BAPTISM OF WATER
“John baptized with the baptism
of repentance, telling the people
to believe in the one who was
to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
“Therefore we have been buried with him by
baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,
so we too might walk in newness of life.”
8. BAPTISM by WATER
FOR REPENTANCE: DEAD TO SIN,
ALIVE IN JESUS
- We acknowledge our sin, and turn to Jesus
- We consciously choose to faithfully follow
- We receive God’s cleansing and blessing
- We enter into God’s kingdom family
9. LUKE 24:29 & ACTS 1:4-5; EPHESIANS 5:18a
BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT
And see, I am sending upon you what my Father
promised; so stay here in the city until you have
been clothed with power from on high…While
staying with them, he ordered them not to leave
Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of
the Father…the Holy Spirit…
Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces
depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit…
10. BAPTISM by THE SPIRIT
FOR RENEWAL, etc. : DEAD TO MY
OWN STRENGTH, ALIVE IN JESUS
- We acknowledge our insufficiency
- We make ourselves available
- We receive God’s empowering grace
- We enter the world with more resources
11. HEBREWS 12:28-29
BAPTISM OF FIRE
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom
that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks,
by which we offer to God an acceptable
worship with reverence and awe; for indeed
our God is a consuming fire.
12. BAPTISM by FIRE
FOR REFINEMENT: DEAD TO MY
OLD LIFE, ALIVE IN JESUS
- We enter a time of testing and trial
- We (hopefully) choose to see it through
- We (hopefully) receive new hope/life
- We (hopefully) develop more grace/mercy
13. - Which of these HAVE you received?
- What of these have you NOT received?
- Why do you think you HAVEN’T?
- Are you AVAILABLE to receive them?
- If not, WHY not? If so, start today…

15. A Prayer For The People of God
O God, you have taught us
to keep all your commandments
by loving you and our neighbor.
Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit,
that we may be devoted to you
with our whole heart, and united
to one another with pure affection;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
16. Mark 12
Hear, O Israel:
the Lord our God, the Lord is one;
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind,
and with all your strength.’
And, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other commandment
greater than these.
