Cinderella was a poor, unhappy girl who had to wear her stepsisters' hand-me-downs and eat scraps instead of nice dresses and dishes. She worked hard all day with no rest or comfort until evening, when she was allowed to sit by the fire near the cinders, which is why everyone called her Cinderella.
