The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer
First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of
the theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and
relationships. Pickton's parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his
brother helped them. Pickton's mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In
addition, Pickton's father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence
in why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority
figure in his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his
mother and is the reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and
killing them Also, due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no
childhood. Pickton did raise a calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a
result, Pickton never forgot it and also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was
fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many
animals being slaughtered when he was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an
unusual occurrence. This is a key reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims
because it is normal to him. Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes
exhibiting unusual behaviour.

As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner Essay
"As I Lay Dying" Final Essay
In the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, relates to what seems to be the main concern and
topic throughout the story, which is the death of Addie Bundren. The long and strange journey to
Jefferson County, Mississippi to bury their mothers body seems to undertake the family together.
Faulkners technique throughout his story presents individual sections of the characters throughout
their thoughts, perspectives or the events taking place throughout the novel. You can see all the
family members and characters have different characteristics of their identity. This idea can be seen
as grotesque and the death of their mother inspires several questions about the character's existence
and identity and they all seem to encounter the death of their mother uniquely.
Each member of the family has a difficult time understanding death and react to it differently.
Throughout the Bundren's experience, we see that Varadman is obsessing over a fish he caught
shortly after his mother's death. Vardaman, who is the youngest does not yet seem to understand or
grieve with the concept of death. As he says, "I can feel where the fish was in the dust. It is cut up
into pieces or not–fish now, not–blood on my hands and overalls. Then it wasn't so. It hadn't
happened then. And now she is getting so far ahead I can't catch her" (Faulkner 32). This statement
shows how Vardaman sees Addie in his fish because like the fish, it represents his mother being

She led him down the hall to the front door and opened it.
"Good night! Behave yourself, boy!" she said, looking out into the street as he went down the steps.
Before he left completely, he looked at Mrs. Jones one last time before running off. It was late at
night, he decided to go back "home" to rest, which was just behind the dumpster. Roger had a
family once, they were very rude and abusive to him. He lived like that for at least 5 years, and at
the age of 13, he ran away from them. It's been one year, and he hasn't heard from them. It was early

Roger started crying. He's eyes were starting to get red. "He tried to steal a lady's purse in plain

Essay about Wanted by Caroline B. Cooney Summary
Wanted by Caroline B. Cooney
Alice Robie is a 15 year old girl. She was visiting her father during one of her "custody weekends".
She gets a strange call from her father telling her to drive his most prized car, Corvette, which he
wouldn't let anyone touch. In the book it said that was one reason why her parents were divorced
because her mother thought he loved the car more than her. Her father told her to get two disks and
drive to where they eat ice cream most of the time. In my opinion I felt that the main character took
to long to complete this task. But before she could live the house a strange yet familiar person
invades her looking for the disk her father told her to bring. Fortunately she was hiding with the disk

The Police: Guiding the Youth of a Generation Essay
The Police were a huge success in their abilities to influence and survive in a society of climatic
endeavors. Throughout the Soviet onslaught in the 1980's and the Arab oil wars in the 70's, the
music industry has thrived from the variety of conflicts around the globe. Soon after the Space age,
The Police put out a popular song titled, "Message in a Bottle", this song defined the bands culture
with its unique definition pertaining to the climate of the world at that time. More importantly,
influential music from that band produced a great change in society from their music – with only
five–thousand words, twenty–five songs, three people, and one band – who changed it all.

another song, "Can't Stand Losing You", from their first album, Outlandos d'Amour, because they

Short Story On Banana Boating
"BANANA BOAT!" The most wonderful thing to do in the water is to go banana boating. The rush
of the wind and water is worth all the times you were scared to mount the inflatable in the first
place. That is, until you get off the boat. Then you realize that those things in the water is why, it is
why you didn't do this yourself.
"Come on Rori! You chicken or what?"
I am not chicken, I will tell you that. But I was scared. Scared of the water activities. I was at Camp
Silver Beach. My cabin was strolling into the bay. My friend Hannah Banana had plans for me and
her. She planned for me to go on the banana boat with her. I heard stories of the legendary banana
boats. Some didn't end well. As soon as I was about to decline Banana pushed me into the line. I
decided to go with it. We walked out to the boats and mounted them slowly. The boat drivers in the
front were telling us about hand signals and how to go faster. They started slow. I was the first one
who put my hand up to go faster.
...
It was the second day of my boating quest. Me and Banana went again. It was the same as last time.
We went faster and faster, wind in my face and water on my feet. Everything was perfect. It felt like
a dream. As soon as the boat stopped though, I regretted every second of it.
"OW! No! Help, stop it!"
Banana needed help. She ran away from the spot of danger quickly and not so gracefully.
"Are you ok? I could of called our cabin counselor for help!"
Banana quickly declined the help. She obviously had a high pain tolerance. On the other hand, a
small touch would make me cry for help.
...
Banana looked scared of the water. She wanted out quickly. I decided to jump out and help her walk
back to the sandy shore.
"You don't need to help me! Come off on the other side of the boat!"
"Nonsense Banana! This is the fastest way to help you"
I'm a moron aren't I! I stepped into the water and felt a tickle on my legs. The tickle was a twisted
touch. It soon turned onto a sting that burned my legs to a crisp.
"Oh my god. OUCH! Help! SUGER HONEY ICED TEA THAT HURTS!"
"I told yo– OW! So..."
Our cabin counselor ran over. She told us that she would walk us back. Thank god she could see the
stinging anomaly that swam through the waters.

The symbolism of Blood and Water in the play "Blood Wedding"
The two word title of the play "Blood Wedding" by Frederico Garcia
Lorca presents both a contradiction and a concurrence. These themes continue throughout the play,
and the two words of the title are used to capture the essence of the contrasting movements of its
action. The wedding symbolises the harmony of man and woman, and the continuation of life.
Blood too symbolises these things, however it also evokes contrasting feelings of violence, death
and destruction. Blood represents the strength of the blood ties in families, and promotes the sense
of repeating history which is evident throughout the play, as well as fertility and ... Show more

She is very interested to know what the girl's mother is like, and we learn from the neighbour that
"she was very proud"[2], and that "she never loved her husband"[3]. This knowledge gives the
audience a sense of foreboding for the repetition of past events. We know that the mother's interest
in the bride's mother stems from her belief that this blood relationship will show her what the girl is
like. If we accept this point of view, we believe that history may repeat itself, and with the
bridegroom already linked by his blood to murder and killing doom seems inevitable.
Even the wife of Leonardo is a victim of the repetition of family history. Before Leonardo runs
away with the bride, the wife suspects that he will not remain faithful, and referring to his lack of
loyalty to her she says "it happened to my mother, now it is happening to me"[4].
So there are four characters in the play who are afflicted by the history of their ancestors. The bride's
mother never loved her husband, the bridegroom's father and older brother were both murdered by
members of the Felix family, Leonardo's ancestors murdered members of the bridegroom's family,
and the mother of Leonardo's wife was also deserted by her husband. All of these links clearly show
the importance of the blood line and the blood relationship in families which is a constant theme
throughout the play, while also creating a strong sense of the inevitability of

Summary Of Saboteur By Ha Jin
Ha Jin's short story "Saboteur" tells of a man who seems discontent, idealistic, and gravely ill. In
Muji, Mr. Chui, is accused of sabotage and taken by force to jail after a run in with railroad
authorities. His crime is for speaking out against police officers assaulting him and his bride during
lunch in the city square. The reader is lead to believe this is a simple case of excessive force by the
police, therefore the abuse of power is the catalyst of this short story, but the real story is about Mr.
Chui's contempt for all those around him and his utter lack of integrity.

left imprisoned until Monday when the chief returns.
Monday morning his bride sends a former student of Mr. Chui, Fenji, a lawyer from a small firm of
two attorneys to get him out of jail. The young man confronts and insults the chief, who sends him
to the yard in the heat to learn some manners. Mr. Chui sees Fenji from his window and feels

he has to sign the confession to get them out of jail. After signing, Mr. Chui is so sick he can barely

several restaurants to eat and drink small amounts of food. Fenji watch his teacher mutter to himself
and "and for the first time Fenji thought of Mr. Chui as an ugly man." (Jin). Muji City, a month later,

peacefully because she had school in the morning. I told my girlfriend that I was going to call her

him for about 10 minutes. Eventually I calmed Leon down and helped him off the ground and retain
his balance. He did not grab his clothes that were in the yard instead Leon says to my mom and I
that "he is going to call the police and get us put in jail." Leon and my mom continue fussing at one
another and at this point I knew that I was not going to let drive my vehicle because she is so mad at
this point, and she would probably try to run him over. To avoid that situation, I drove my mom to
her friend's house (Darryl Williams). We are talking for about 10 to 15 minutes and I decided that I

to be at work by seven in the morning. As I drive up to the road going home I see the sheriff's
department and police cars, so I stop. I gave the Sheriff my name he asks me "where is your mom?"

Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore
"This is the story of two boys living in Baltimore with similar histories and an identical name: Wes
Moore. One of us is free and has experienced things that he never even knew to dream about as a
kid. The other will spend everyday until his death behind bars for an armed robbery that left a police
officer and father of five dead. The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy
is that my story could have been his." Moore (xi). The Other Wes Moore shows us how similar their
childhoods were but they had two entirely different outcomes in the end. Lets see what some of the
similarities and differences in the Wes Moores' lives pertaining to family and police run–ins of both
Wes Moores' were described in The Other Wes Moore.

Essay about Stephen Crane's The Bride Comes To Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane's "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky"
Stephen Crane's "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky," as well as his other Western stories, owe much
to Mark Twain's approach to the West. According to Eric Solomon, "both authors...used humor to
comment on the flaws of traditional fictional processes" (237). While employing parody of the
Western literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. In
"The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky," Stephen Crane uses symbolism to develop his study of the
changes effected on the West and the roles of its inhabitants by the encroachment of eastern society.

Potter is embarrassed in the great eastern train car. He is not accustomed to the fancy Victorian
environment, and neither is his wife. Potter is also worried about the act of his marriage itself. He
felt "the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a
man known, liked, and feared in his corner... [had married] without consulting Yellow Sky for any
part of the transaction" (Crane 403). Potter had defiled the idea of the "Marshal, a figure fearsome
and independent" (Solomon 252). Potter also ignored the Western tradition of partnership and
consulting one's friends before marriage. He has told no one and is quietly attempting to sneak his
bride back into town. This bride is the catalyst of change that is sure to wreak havoc on the social
structure of Yellow Sky, and Potter knows it.

is the town's drunken bum. The occupants of the town are terrified as he rages up and down the

Liking What You See: A Documentary By Ted Chiang
Every time someone says, "She's very ugly," or "Look at his nose. Look how crooked it is," This is
not an example of calli; it's the opposite. Calli is when someone does not have an opinion on

calli was a good thing and that everyone should have it. But, in contrast, we have read about people

They want them to expand their mind with growth and information and not with judgements about
others. This is what Rachel and Martin Lyons were thinking when they chose this school for
Tamera. Although Tamera was very frustrated that this school had calli, she eventually turns it off. I
agree with why Tamera's parents chose this school for her. I think teens need to stop looking at
others and having a degrading opinion, and have a more positive opinion that could change
someone's life for the better. This world today is so negative and everyone is always wrong. If you
think about it, there is good things that come out of bad situations. "I wanted Tamera to value herself

We can look at people for who they really are and not for what they physically look like. We can
take their knowledge and apply it to the real world and not have to care if they are fitting the world's

Stings
In Sylvia Plath's poem "Stings", there are many important techniques used that can be easily
overlooked when one has only read the final poem and not the original drafts. The original version
of "Stings" reveals a narrator that relates and desires to be the Queen of the bees. Unlike the original
however, the final draft is more coded and less forthright with the narrator's aspirations. In the
original draft there are a couple of words and phrases omitted from the final that bring about a
different interpretation of how the narrator compares herself to the Queen Bee. It seems as though
many of the changes made in the poem were to make the narrators longings come to fruition while
also trying to bring the bees to life through the narrator. The ... Show more content on

By merging the stanzas together and omitting the four lines in the final draft, Plath is focusing her
attention on the humans rather than the bees. To further understand the significance of this change it
helps to look at the "eleventh" stanza in the original draft. The importance of the stanza separation
in the original version is seen through looking at the first and second line "Black as the devil, and
vengeful/The bees found him out" (Plath, manuscript). In the original draft, the stanza separation
shifts the focus from the third beekeeper back onto the bees and allows for a completely different
reading where "Black as the devil, and vengeful" describes the bees rather than the wound had there
been no separation in stanzas. The bees are described as though to be swarming and seeking
vengeance for their disturbed queen. Plath seems however to want to focus on the person being
stung rather than the bees and therefore omits the four lines and merges the stanzas together. In one
of her letters to her mother, Plath describes how her husband is stung by bees for being carless much
like the beekeeper in the poem (The County Dublin Beekeepers' Association, para 8). By getting rid
of the lines and joining the two stanzas, Plath demonstrates how the bees of the hive would react in
such a situation; without focus on anything but the beekeeper who had disturbed their peace. The
added lines focused too much on the bees and the stings on the beekeepers face. The removed lines
allow the reader to remain in the descriptive point of view of the bees rather than going back to the
narrator's point of

similar to this situation back in 2016 summer, one of my friend's dad was in the club and he

Edith Head Research Paper
Throughout Hollywood's history, there have been several great fashion designers, including Edith
Head. She has had a very long and illustrious career that lasted from 1927 to 1981. During her
career, she inspired numerous fashion trends and worked on several popular films. Edith Head was
very secretive about her childhood and would often lie about it when asked a question. A close
friend of hers David Chierichetti eventually learned all about it (Jorgensen, 13). Edith Head was
born, Edith Claire Posner, on October 28, 1897, in San Bernardino to Max Posner and Anna Levy.

Her mom, Anne, also made sure Head received an education. Head did not have any formal fashion
training, she went to Berkeley majoring in Letters and Sciences with honors in French. She also
received her masters in French from Stanford (18). The only training she had were the art classes
she was taking to be able to teach her students at Hollywood School for Girls how to draw. A major

Friend from my family. She was the glue that held me and my siblings together throughout our adult
years. It was our ritual to speak before I started and ended my day. My Mother encouraged me to

knew what words to speak to soothe me and she could build me up with her understanding. I loved
that she never took sides when my siblings and I would have disagreements. She would remind us
the importance of family ties. As a child, I could remember coming home broken because I felt like
an outcast. The children were cruel to me. I was the kid in the home made dress or the plaid pants

Descriptive Essay : My Trip To The Beach
My Trip to the Beach!
As I rolled out of bed, drenched in sweat from the hot, sticky, humid air. As I got ready for the day I
began to feel excited because, today was the day we would spend at the beach. Playing and
splashing in the water riding the waves, riding our boogie boards. Oh yes today was going to be fun!
As I put on my swim suit I smelt the lingering smell of the oceans salty water from the previous
time we had gone to the beach. It reminded me of how much fun I had, had and made me even more
exited. The whole time we were in the car driving to the beach I couldn't help but remember how
much I loved the ocean, I loved the salty water, the enormous waves, I loved riding the waves with
my board or just body surfing them, I loved jumping right over the waves or having them sweep me
off my feet and pretend I was flying.
As we got to the beach I ran to the nearest cabana plopped myself down and patiently waited for my
family to catch up. When my family finally caught up the waiter came over to our table, took our
order and started making our food. I then begged my dad to go swim in the water until the food
came,
He said "Fine but as soon as the food gets here you and your brothers must come right when we tell
you got it?" "Got it" I said, I bolted into the water, ignoring all the psycho looks people were giving
me. I began to splash and twirl around, so happy and excited it was like the ocean was my second

The Downfall Of My Family
There is no pain quite as severe and longlasting as the pain of divorce. Nothing will ever compare to
the sting and agony of watching your beloved family fall victim to a plague that you are helpless to
fix. All you can hope to do is to stand by idly as everything you have ever loved turns to ash before
your eyes. From the nights of holding my sisters weeping head in my arms, to the nights where I
struggle to hold up my own, the evil that is divorce is all destroying and has changed my life in
ways that cannot be comprehended. However, just as a phoenix rises from the ashes of his
destruction, one can rise above the deep gloomy trenches of depression after the storm of divorce. It
all comes down to how you bounce back and learn from it. The downfall of my family had a long
lasting effect on me and is still present even today, This being said, the one lesson that has carried
me through the years is this: What does not kill me will only make me stronger in the days to come.
My home was built upon the founding family virtues of love, happiness, laughter, and compassion.
However, the foundation it was built upon was made of sand, destined from the start to be sucked in
below to the depths of failure. How can any home hope to prosper without a stable foundation? The
answer is that it simply cannot. That was strike one of the downfall of my family in the late year of

Scott Joplin Essay
Scott Joplin (1868–1917)
Scott Joplin, commonly known as the "King of Ragtime" music, was born on November
24, 1868, in Bowie County, Texas near Linden. Joplin came from a large musical family. His father,
Giles Joplin was a musician who had fiddled dance music while serving as a slave at his master's
parties. His mother, Florence Givens Joplin, born free and out of slavery, sang and played the banjo,
and four of his brothers and sisters either sang or played strings.
Joplin's talent was revealed at an early age. Encouraged by his parent's, he became extremely
proficient on the banjo and gained an interest for playing the piano. After Joplin's parents purchased

This opera did not actually reach popularity until some 60 years later. New York proved to be
stimulating for Joplin's creative mind. There he published many ragtime jewels, on right after
another.
In 1916, Joplin's career came to an abrupt end. Joplin contracted syphilis and began suffering the
terminal effects of this disease. He suffered from paranoia, dementia, penalization, and other
symptoms. In the latter part of 1916, he was admitted to Manhattan State Hospital, a mental
hospital, where he would never leave until he passed away on April 1, 1917. After his death, Joplin's
body was buried in the Astoria section of Queens, New York in St. Michael's Cemetery.
In Joplin's many years of composing, he was never actually acknowledged as the great composer
that he really was. There just was not any opportunities for black musicians during those times to
have their music heard by anyone in the serious musical world. Joplin's music received recognition
posthumously as a result of the revival of ragtime music in the 1970's, as well as during its
popularity in the 1920's and 1930's.
Throughout his entire life, Joplin was mostly influenced to increase his musical skills by his mother
and father, both being musicians themselves. More than type of influence upon himself, Joplin was
one to place the influence on others. His works sparked the writings of his contemporaries, all those
who studied with him, and all those who studied his music.

The Sting
John Dawn II
Professor Hesse
ENGL 101
21 October 2013
The Sting The mind produces thoughts constantly, even when you do not look at them. When you
know what is going on in your mind, you call it "consciousness." This is your waking state – your
consciousness shifts from sensation, from perception to perception, from idea to idea, in endless
succession. Then comes "awareness," the direct insight into the whole of the consciousness, the
entirety of the mind. The mind is like a river, flowing constantly in the bed of the body; you identify
yourself for a moment with some particular ripple and call it: "my thought." Awareness is
primordial; it is the original state, endless, uncaused, and without change. There can be no

The extinction of nature leaves us little opportunity to get in direct contact with nature. Luckily,
while growing up at the same house that I am still at now in Corona del Mar is where I got to
experience most of my first direct contacts with nature. Whether it is trying to help my mom garden,
catching snails for a penny each, or observing the natural beauty of the bright colored blossoming
flowers, I immersed myself in nature. Whenever these gorgeous flowers blossomed all the way, I
use to walk straight up to the flower and grasp a part of the stem with my right hand that didn't have
to many thorns. Once I grasped the stem firmly is when I would close my eyes to block off my other
senses to focus solely on the intense smell of the aromatic flower. As I did this, I would draw the
flower closer to my face to inhale that intoxicating amazing smell that all beauty cosmetic
companies want to bottle up for buyers. This was my usual routine how I sniffed flowers as a kid
until one day I got a rude awakening. I was going to smell a flower just like I usually did so I dipped
my face straight into one of these blossoming flowers only to receive a painful unpleasant
experience of direct contact with nature from a bee pollinating the flower that stung my nose. After
experiencing this pain, I did what I would think many kids would do,

Stung Have you ever felt extreme pain before? The type of pain that brings you to your knees,

My brother, mom, dad, uncle and I were riding out to the German Channel, a popular diving site

Analysis Of The Play Blood Wedding
I chose to review and research the play Blood Wedding. The setting of the play was placed in Spain
during the early 1930's. It is based on a true story. In 1928, a young man was murdered by his
cousin in Madrid the night before his wedding. The play gives more detail to what happened with a
bride who is stuck between getting married to someone new than being with someone she loves that
she has known from years ago before she met her fiancé. The main characters of this play are the
bride, bridegroom, and the bridegroom's mother. The mother dug into their business involving
relationships with the bride, another man and her family, but the main conflict is the actual murder
scene of the two men, the bridegroom and Leonardo, who is the other man the bride had feelings
for. This scene left the bride feeling hopeless. Blood Wedding is play that focuses mainly on society
roles of men and women. It was more of a traditional society than what it is like today. Women are
known to be the care givers and stay at home moms that sew, cook, and clean. This play pursues the
way women were treated and thought low of back in history. During the play, the bride mentioned
that she wishes she were a man because she would have more opportunities and be able to be with
who she wanted to marry. Also, the bride's mother–in–law mentioned several times that she wants
grandchildren, exactly six and hopefully girls, so she can teach them how to sew. This is wrong
because people should not assume that

Dog In Harlem

Winesburg Character Analysis
Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson; is a collection of short stories reproducing the town of
many "grotesques". Anderson defines the term "grotesque" as being a person that "took one of the
truths to himself, call it his own truth, and tried to live his life by it" (Anderson, 3). In the book,
each story is about a grotesque character, including Wash Williams in the story "Respectability".
Williams is the worst grotesque in the book. Specifically, the worst grotesque is a person who has
become obsessed with an idea or feeling and cannot accept a different opinion. Wash Williams is the
worst grotesque, because from what happened to him, his feelings towards change. He became
violent, he forces his opinions on others, and it seems to be unable to change his beliefs.
In "Respectability", Wash Williams is an ugly, miserable man with no friends. Anderson describes
him as "a huge ugly kind of ugly monkey, a creature with ugly sagging hairless skin below his eyes,
and a bright purple underbody." (Anderson, 68).Williams was the best operator in Ohio, but after
what happened to him, he got demoted to his state. Williams hated the people of the small town,
especially women. His obsession with hating women; took over his passion for work. He viewed all
women as "Bitches" because of his failed marriage, his feeling for men were different; he pitied
them. "Does not every man let his life be managed for him by some bitch or another?" (Anderson,

The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West
In The Day of the Locust, Tod Hackett undergoes an internal development relative to his migration.
Tod, an architect living in Connecticut, moves out to Hollywood to build scenery for movies. Yet,
once he moves, Tod is transformed into a lethargic, non–artist who can no longer create his own
drawings on paper. His surroundings drive these changes, as all characters in the novel are depicted
in a similar fashion. Tod becomes one of the grotesque as well, laughing at the disturbing rather than
the humorous. These new features signal Tod's incapacity to return to his old self, as he constantly
suffers from his migration. This comes full circle at the end of the novel when Tod is led away from
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tod blames this on inertia, as it is becoming easier and more natural for him to do the same things
every day in LA. Only when an external force motivates him, like Abe Kusich's plans for moving
do, does Tod actually move anywhere. By the end of the novel, Tod wonders "if he himself [does
not] suffer from the ingrained, morbid apathy he [likes] to draw in others" (141). Here, Tod
coalesces with the other apathetic Californians; he becomes one of them. These moments culminate
in the police car scene when first, the policemen carry him by force to the theatre driveway, and then
carry him off in their car. Tod is carried and lifted in this instance; he performs none of the actions
but instead, is the receiver of them. Whereas in Connecticut, he took action in his life and studies, in
Los Angeles, he can do nothing but that which is done to him.
Tod's laughter after hearing the siren corresponds to the grotesque laughter that signals his ultimate
failure to recover. When first in LA, Tod views the houses around him as comical: architecture
lacking both beauty and romance. Yet, he finds it hard to laugh at these "truly monstrous" buildings,
instead exuding a sigh (61). The artist soon meets Abe Kusich, however, who first laughs "at his
own joke, using a high–pitched cackle more dwarflike than anything that [comes] from him" (63).
Abe represents the average Californian that Tod will

Essay On Mass Shooting
Nikolas Cruz, the expelled student suspected of killing at least 17 people and injuring more than 12
others at his former high school in Parkland, Florida. He was described by his former classmates as
a loner with a temper. On Thursday, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said "Cruz confessed to
being the shooter". The 19–year–old was charged Thursday with 17 counts of premeditated murder,
after he started firing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday afternoon. The
Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting is the 6th school shooting resulting in injuries this year. There
have been 17 cases of gunfire in schools this year, according to gun control group Everytown USA.
Authorities said "Cruz used an AR–15 rifle a semi–automatic assault–style rifle that has been used
in a lot of other mass shootings in the country". He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the wake of the Florida school shooting, officials from Attorney General Jeff Sessions to House
Speaker Paul Ryan to Florida Governor Rick Scott have made vague calls to address the role of
mental illness in mass shootings, which is often how Republicans avoid talking about tightening
gun–safety laws. But some are calling for their states to take specific action, by passing laws that
would allow law–enforcement officers, or in some cases family members, to petition the court to
temporarily seize firearms from someone believed to pose a threat to themselves or others. The New
York Times reports: The measures, known as "red flag laws" or extreme risk protection orders, have
shown evidence of reducing suicides in Connecticut, where the first such law was passed in 1999,
and in recent years have also been passed in California, Washington and Oregon. Eighteen states,
including Florida, and the District of Columbia are considering such laws this year, according to a
list compiled by Everytown for Gun Safety, a nonprofit advocacy

Tiana Aldo : A Short Story : The Story Of A Child's Story
In a small hidden town located deep in Kansas City, lived a young seductive woman who was
impregnated by her late husband Willis. The her name was Tiana Aldo, she was not satisfied with
the way she thought her baby would come out; She desired for a mixed baby girl with pretty big
bright blue eyes and soft luscious hair. She agonized for days with her father, "I don't want just a
white child, only if I could change her somehow, some way." She glorified mixed babies and she
fancied one of her own; her father was a bigot he did not believe in having mixed children, "that is a
sin Tiana, do not go and change the child God gave you what you wanted you to have." Several days
later she went to the hospital for a check up, she asked her doctor, "Is there any way we could
change my child's race?" "Yes Mamn I sure can", replied the doctor. The doctor then proceeded to
write down the traits Tiana desired. "I'm so excited that you can change my sweet baby." Dr.
Waddell then injected something into a needle and shot it into her arm, "This might sting a little, but
i'm sure you'll be happy." Tiana was due in 2 more months so the injection had plenty of time to
kick in. She went to her father and told him what she had done, "Dad, I know you're going to be
angry, but you have to understand that this is the way I want my child to look. I went into the doctor
and changed her race and eye color to the way I have been desiring for years." he threatened her, "

Headline:
One Mother at Walmart Sees a Woman and Child Standing Nervously. After Hearing Six Words,
She Slams on Her Brakes.
Summary:
It seemed like an ordinary day for one Ohio mother. She was just trying to run some errands with
her two children. In just a few minutes, one fun outing ended up completely changing.
Introduction:
As Tina White was leaving Walmart, she carefully put her children and groceries into the car. She
had no clue that her afternoon outing was about to take a terrifying turn. She had just put her
children into the truck and was preparing to go when she saw something alarming. Slamming on the
brakes, Tina brought the truck to a complete halt.

Since Tina had her children with her, she backed up. The whole thing was heard by the police
because Tina was still on the phone. While the man might be trying to escape, Tina was not going to
let him get away with kidnapping.
– Insert a picture of the prosecution.
Tina followed the man's car and told the dispatcher exactly what was going on. She relayed the
license plate number and the type of car. In fear, she begged the dispatcher to get the police there.
Luckily, help was on the way. The kidnapped mother was also able to dial 911 while her phone was
in her pocket. She could not talk to the dispatcher, but the dispatcher could hear the kidnapper. The
kidnapper was talking about a Western Union check and demanded that the mother give him her
casino money.
Throughout the whole experience, Tina never stopped following the car or talking to 911. Even
when the police arrived, she stayed to watch the man get arrested.
– Insert a picture of the police's dash cam.
It turns out that the kidnapper, Kenneth McDonald, abducted the mother and child in North
Carolina. He saw them on the television interview about the casino jackpot. After the police arrested
him, they also found drugs under the driver's seat.
Luckily, the victims were not harmed. After the terrifying event, they decided to share some of the
casino's money with Tina. It was the only way they could think of showing their gratitude to her for
the heroic work

The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer

  • 1. The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and relationships. Pickton's parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his brother helped them. Pickton's mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In addition, Pickton's father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also, due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him. Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner Essay "As I Lay Dying" Final Essay In the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, relates to what seems to be the main concern and topic throughout the story, which is the death of Addie Bundren. The long and strange journey to Jefferson County, Mississippi to bury their mothers body seems to undertake the family together. Faulkners technique throughout his story presents individual sections of the characters throughout their thoughts, perspectives or the events taking place throughout the novel. You can see all the family members and characters have different characteristics of their identity. This idea can be seen as grotesque and the death of their mother inspires several questions about the character's existence and identity and they all seem to encounter the death of their mother uniquely. Each member of the family has a difficult time understanding death and react to it differently. Throughout the Bundren's experience, we see that Varadman is obsessing over a fish he caught shortly after his mother's death. Vardaman, who is the youngest does not yet seem to understand or grieve with the concept of death. As he says, "I can feel where the fish was in the dust. It is cut up into pieces or not–fish now, not–blood on my hands and overalls. Then it wasn't so. It hadn't happened then. And now she is getting so far ahead I can't catch her" (Faulkner 32). This statement shows how Vardaman sees Addie in his fish because like the fish, it represents his mother being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before he left completely, he looked at Mrs. Jones one last time before running off. It was late at night, he decided to go back "home" to rest, which was just behind the dumpster. Roger had a family once, they were very rude and abusive to him. He lived like that for at least 5 years, and at the age of 13, he ran away from them. It's been one year, and he hasn't heard from them. It was early in the morning, and as soon as Roger woke up, he dashed to a shoe store to buy his blue suede shoes. He arrived at a store and went in. "He tried to steal a lady's purse in plain sight," Jack explained to her. "He was caught and I had to take him here. Do you know this boy, Aunt Jones?" "Yes, as a matter a fact, I do. Boy, don't start being a baby now, you know you did bad," Mrs. Jones said harshly, directing her words to Roger.. "You will be coming to my house, and staying there. Permanently." "Does that mean you're going to bail him out? Are you sure with your decision" Jack questioned, looking concerned. "He is a thief." "Yes I am sure. What do I need to do?" "Well, ok then you just have to fill up some papers and then he will be set to go." She gets a strange call from her father telling her to drive his most prized car, Corvette, which he wouldn't let anyone touch. In the book it said that was one reason why her parents were divorced because her mother thought he loved the car more than her. Her father told her to get two disks and drive to where they eat ice cream most of the time. In my opinion I felt that the main character took to long to complete this task. Throughout the Soviet onslaught in the 1980's and the Arab oil wars in the 70's, the music industry has thrived from the variety of conflicts around the globe. Later that year in 1978, Miles heard the song Roxanne and graced them with a record deal from A&M Records, this song was later banned along with another song, "Can't Stand Losing You", from their first album, Outlandos d'Amour, because they portrayed vulgar topics. Regatta de Blanc, their second album was a major success across Europe, topping the charts for almost four weeks and producing two best sellers, "Message in a Bottle' and "Walking on the Moon" This album debuted in 1979, The Polices first world tour followed. Later in 1980 The Police released their third album, Zenyatta Mondatta. This album contained the songs "Don't Stand so Close to Me" and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da". The only other albums they produced were "Ghost in the Machine" (1981) and "Synchronicity" (1983). The Police were unable to play together after that due to Copeland breaking his collarbone he was unable to play the drums. • 6. Short Story On Banana Boating "BANANA BOAT!" The most wonderful thing to do in the water is to go banana boating. The rush of the wind and water is worth all the times you were scared to mount the inflatable in the first place. That is, until you get off the boat. Then you realize that those things in the water is why, it is why you didn't do this yourself. "Come on Rori! You chicken or what?" I am not chicken, I will tell you that. But I was scared. Scared of the water activities. I was at Camp Silver Beach. My cabin was strolling into the bay. My friend Hannah Banana had plans for me and her. She planned for me to go on the banana boat with her. I heard stories of the legendary banana boats. Some didn't end well. As soon as I was about to decline Banana pushed me into the line. I decided to go with it. We walked out to the boats and mounted them slowly. The boat drivers in the front were telling us about hand signals and how to go faster. They started slow. I was the first one who put my hand up to go faster. ... It was the second day of my boating quest. Me and Banana went again. It was the same as last time. We went faster and faster, wind in my face and water on my feet. Everything was perfect. It felt like a dream. As soon as the boat stopped though, I regretted every second of it. "OW! No! Help, stop it!" Banana needed help. She ran away from the spot of danger quickly and not so gracefully. "Are you ok? I could of called our cabin counselor for help!" Banana quickly declined the help. She obviously had a high pain tolerance. On the other hand, a small touch would make me cry for help. ... Banana looked scared of the water. She wanted out quickly. I decided to jump out and help her walk back to the sandy shore. "You don't need to help me! Come off on the other side of the boat!" "Nonsense Banana! This is the fastest way to help you" I'm a moron aren't I! I stepped into the water and felt a tickle on my legs. The tickle was a twisted touch. It soon turned onto a sting that burned my legs to a crisp. "Oh my god. OUCH! Help! SUGER HONEY ICED TEA THAT HURTS!" "I told yo– OW! So..."

World Literature Essay Number Two: World Literature Essay Number Two: The symbolism of Blood and Water in the play "Blood Wedding" The two word title of the play "Blood Wedding" by Frederico Garcia Lorca presents both a contradiction and a concurrence. These themes continue throughout the play, and the two words of the title are used to capture the essence of the contrasting movements of its action. The wedding symbolises the harmony of man and woman, and the continuation of life. Blood too symbolises these things, however it also evokes contrasting feelings of violence, death and destruction. Blood represents the strength of the blood ties in families, and promotes the sense of repeating history which is evident throughout the play, as well as fertility and ... She is very interested to know what the girl's mother is like, and we learn from the neighbour that "she was very proud"[2], and that "she never loved her husband"[3]. This knowledge gives the audience a sense of foreboding for the repetition of past events. We know that the mother's interest in the bride's mother stems from her belief that this blood relationship will show her what the girl is like. If we accept this point of view, we believe that history may repeat itself, and with the bridegroom already linked by his blood to murder and killing doom seems inevitable. Even the wife of Leonardo is a victim of the repetition of family history. Before Leonardo runs away with the bride, the wife suspects that he will not remain faithful, and referring to his lack of loyalty to her she says "it happened to my mother, now it is happening to me"[4]. So there are four characters in the play who are afflicted by the history of their ancestors. The bride's mother never loved her husband, the bridegroom's father and older brother were both murdered by members of the Felix family, Leonardo's ancestors murdered members of the bridegroom's family, and the mother of Leonardo's wife was also deserted by her husband. All of these links clearly show the importance of the blood line and the blood relationship in families which is a constant theme throughout the play, while also creating a strong sense of the inevitability of ... While employing parody of the Western literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. I think teens need to stop looking at others and having a degrading opinion, and have a more positive opinion that could change someone's life for the better. • 18. Stings In Sylvia Plath's poem "Stings", there are many important techniques used that can be easily overlooked when one has only read the final poem and not the original drafts. The original version of "Stings" reveals a narrator that relates and desires to be the Queen of the bees. Unlike the original however, the final draft is more coded and less forthright with the narrator's aspirations. In the original draft there are a couple of words and phrases omitted from the final that bring about a different interpretation of how the narrator compares herself to the Queen Bee. It seems as though many of the changes made in the poem were to make the narrators longings come to fruition while also trying to bring the bees to life through the narrator. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By merging the stanzas together and omitting the four lines in the final draft, Plath is focusing her attention on the humans rather than the bees. To further understand the significance of this change it helps to look at the "eleventh" stanza in the original draft. The importance of the stanza separation in the original version is seen through looking at the first and second line "Black as the devil, and vengeful/The bees found him out" (Plath, manuscript). In the original draft, the stanza separation shifts the focus from the third beekeeper back onto the bees and allows for a completely different reading where "Black as the devil, and vengeful" describes the bees rather than the wound had there been no separation in stanzas. The bees are described as though to be swarming and seeking vengeance for their disturbed queen. Plath seems however to want to focus on the person being stung rather than the bees and therefore omits the four lines and merges the stanzas together. In one of her letters to her mother, Plath describes how her husband is stung by bees for being carless much like the beekeeper in the poem (The County Dublin Beekeepers' Association, para 8). By getting rid of the lines and joining the two stanzas, Plath demonstrates how the bees of the hive would react in such a situation; without focus on anything but the beekeeper who had disturbed their peace. The added lines focused too much on the bees and the stings on the beekeepers face. The removed lines allow the reader to remain in the descriptive point of view of the bees rather than going back to the narrator's point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She would remind us the importance of family ties. As a child, I could remember coming home broken because I felt like an outcast. The children were cruel to me. I was the kid in the home made dress or the plaid pants with the penny loafers. You see, my Mother was a single parent raising five children. We lived in low income housing and she worked several jobs to provide the essentials. In our home there were no name brand clothing and hand–me– downs were the normality. She kept us feed, clean and a roof over our heads. My Mother loved us all equally and made us feel as if we lived above poverty. We would always have family night on Saturday. We would dance, laugh and watch movies. It was a treat to get the home made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Descriptive Essay : My Trip To The Beach My Trip to the Beach! As I rolled out of bed, drenched in sweat from the hot, sticky, humid air. As I got ready for the day I began to feel excited because, today was the day we would spend at the beach. Playing and splashing in the water riding the waves, riding our boogie boards. Oh yes today was going to be fun! As I put on my swim suit I smelt the lingering smell of the oceans salty water from the previous time we had gone to the beach. It reminded me of how much fun I had, had and made me even more exited. The whole time we were in the car driving to the beach I couldn't help but remember how much I loved the ocean, I loved the salty water, the enormous waves, I loved riding the waves with my board or just body surfing them, I loved jumping right over the waves or having them sweep me off my feet and pretend I was flying. As we got to the beach I ran to the nearest cabana plopped myself down and patiently waited for my family to catch up. When my family finally caught up the waiter came over to our table, took our order and started making our food. I then begged my dad to go swim in the water until the food came, He said "Fine but as soon as the food gets here you and your brothers must come right when we tell you got it?" "Got it" I said, I bolted into the water, ignoring all the psycho looks people were giving me. I began to splash and twirl around, so happy and excited it was like the ocean was my second home, I ... • 26. The Downfall Of My Family There is no pain quite as severe and longlasting as the pain of divorce. Nothing will ever compare to the sting and agony of watching your beloved family fall victim to a plague that you are helpless to fix. All you can hope to do is to stand by idly as everything you have ever loved turns to ash before your eyes. From the nights of holding my sisters weeping head in my arms, to the nights where I struggle to hold up my own, the evil that is divorce is all destroying and has changed my life in ways that cannot be comprehended. However, just as a phoenix rises from the ashes of his destruction, one can rise above the deep gloomy trenches of depression after the storm of divorce. It all comes down to how you bounce back and learn from it. The downfall of my family had a long lasting effect on me and is still present even today, This being said, the one lesson that has carried me through the years is this: What does not kill me will only make me stronger in the days to come. My home was built upon the founding family virtues of love, happiness, laughter, and compassion. However, the foundation it was built upon was made of sand, destined from the start to be sucked in below to the depths of failure. How can any home hope to prosper without a stable foundation? The answer is that it simply cannot. That was strike one of the downfall of my family in the late year of 2012. In 1916, Joplin's career came to an abrupt end. Joplin contracted syphilis and began suffering the terminal effects of this disease. He suffered from paranoia, dementia, penalization, and other symptoms. In the latter part of 1916, he was admitted to Manhattan State Hospital, a mental hospital, where he would never leave until he passed away on April 1, 1917. After his death, Joplin's body was buried in the Astoria section of Queens, New York in St. Michael's Cemetery. In Joplin's many years of composing, he was never actually acknowledged as the great composer that he really was. There just was not any opportunities for black musicians during those times to have their music heard by anyone in the serious musical world. Joplin's music received recognition posthumously as a result of the revival of ragtime music in the 1970's, as well as during its popularity in the 1920's and 1930's. Throughout his entire life, Joplin was mostly influenced to increase his musical skills by his mother and father, both being musicians themselves. When you know what is going on in your mind, you call it "consciousness." This is your waking state – your consciousness shifts from sensation, from perception to perception, from idea to idea, in endless succession. Then comes "awareness," the direct insight into the whole of the consciousness, the entirety of the mind. The mind is like a river, flowing constantly in the bed of the body; you identify yourself for a moment with some particular ripple and call it: "my thought." Whether it is trying to help my mom garden, catching snails for a penny each, or observing the natural beauty of the bright colored blossoming flowers, I immersed myself in nature. Whenever these gorgeous flowers blossomed all the way, I use to walk straight up to the flower and grasp a part of the stem with my right hand that didn't have to many thorns. Once I grasped the stem firmly is when I would close my eyes to block off my other senses to focus solely on the intense smell of the aromatic flower. As I did this, I would draw the flower closer to my face to inhale that intoxicating amazing smell that all beauty cosmetic companies want to bottle up for buyers. This was my usual routine how I sniffed flowers as a kid until one day I got a rude awakening. I was going to smell a flower just like I usually did so I dipped my face straight into one of these blossoming flowers only to receive a painful unpleasant experience of direct contact with nature from a bee pollinating the flower that stung my nose. When I got stung by a jellyfish, I felt that type of pain. We were driving our boat up the German Channel, the sky cloudless, the water a beautiful blue, and the sun shining across our faces. Colorful fish darted away fast as fighter jets as our boat drifted through the water. My brother, mom, dad, uncle and I were riding out to the German Channel, a popular diving site that also had many beaches. "We're here!" my uncle shouted as he powered off the engine. We climbed off the boat and onto the beach. I tossed off my slippers and felt the soft sand beneath my feet. "What is this?!" my brother exclaimed as he pointed at a black object that had just washed up shore. As I moved closer I saw that it was a sea cucumber! "Come over here!" I yelled. My brother and I walked over to a part of the beach protected from the sun by tall palm trees. Our mom came over and handed us old, wood sticks pulled of from trees. We all wrote our names in the sand and took a picture. Then my brother and I proceeded back out to the unshaded beach and we started digging a big hole. Using some pails we had brought, we went back and forth dumping pail after pail full of water into our little hole, until finally we had our own little pool! In 1928, a young man was murdered by his cousin in Madrid the night before his wedding. The play gives more detail to what happened with a bride who is stuck between getting married to someone new than being with someone she loves that she has known from years ago before she met her fiancé. The main characters of this play are the bride, bridegroom, and the bridegroom's mother. The mother dug into their business involving relationships with the bride, another man and her family, but the main conflict is the actual murder scene of the two men, the bridegroom and Leonardo, who is the other man the bride had feelings for. This scene left the bride feeling hopeless. Blood Wedding is play that focuses mainly on society roles of men and women. It was more of a traditional society than what it is like today. Women are known to be the care givers and stay at home moms that sew, cook, and clean. This play pursues the way women were treated and thought low of back in history. During the play, the bride mentioned that she wishes she were a man because she would have more opportunities and be able to be with who she wanted to marry. Also, the bride's mother–in–law mentioned several times that she wants grandchildren, exactly six and hopefully girls, so she can teach them how to sew. His surroundings drive these changes, as all characters in the novel are depicted in a similar fashion. Tod becomes one of the grotesque as well, laughing at the disturbing rather than the humorous. Here, Tod coalesces with the other apathetic Californians; he becomes one of them. These moments culminate in the police car scene when first, the policemen carry him by force to the theatre driveway, and then carry him off in their car.
