- All computers are powered by electricity. They must run on electricity in one form or another.
- A computer must be able to follow a set of instructions to operate. That instruction is called programs.
- A computer must be able to store information to use at another time. This computer feature turns the machine into an electronic filing cabinet
- On top of being able to store information. A Computer must be able to retrieve the information that it has stored. Storing is meaningless without the capacity to retrieve.
- Most importantly, a computer must be able to process information. In other words, a computer must be able to manipulate and transform the information it has stored.

- As computer technology advances, new application are developed daily. This is practically no limits to the different ways society uses computer. Here are some of the benefits of using computer.
- Everybody is looking for ways to get more work done faster with less effort. Since computers can handle a great deal of data at once, they are perfect tools to increase productivity. In other words, they can increase the amount of work we can do in a given amount of time. Example: Print multiple copies of data.
- The computer’s ability to let process and store massive amount of data, and its ability to convert this data into useful information, is a great information management Example: a group of unrelated numbers and facts held in multiple accounting databases can be brought together, and processed by very rapidly into a single, unified report, which can give a business owner a good idea of the status of the financial health of the business quickly.
- Computer improve modern communications in many ways. Any personal computer owner can tap into vast world of electronic information without leaving home. Example: you can access information from big computer databases using remote terminals. An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is one of the best example of remote terminal.
