1. King Malici Chapter Summaries
NARRATOR: Once upon a time, there was a King Malicious who had a beautiful daughter. Men
from all around the world sent proposals of marriage to King Malicious, but King Malicious said.
KING MALICIOUS: Whoever would marry my daughter must perform three impossible tasks.
First, they must swim across The Kings River alone through shark infested waters. Second, they
must bring me a vial of cool water from the Lake of the Abominable Snow Man, water so cool it
chills you to the bone. And third, they must bring me a scale from the hide of the great dragon
Alduin.
NARRATOR: King Malicious knew these tasks to be impossible, hence the name, three impossible
tasks. But King Malicious, who did want grandchildren one day, assured each man that undertook ...

4. Why Did God Kill His Own Prophet?
Why did God kill his Own Prophet? In this essay. I will argue that God put his prophet to death
because the prophet disobeyed God's direct command. The three points that will support this thesis
are the following: The man of God who is a public figure states that God commanded him not to eat
or drink, to which he still disobeys willingly. If the prophet was not put to death, then there will have
been an excuse that sin is a light matter and does not deserve punishment. The death of the Man of
God was a final warning to the people of Israel and the king who all have no longer an excuse not to
turn from their wicked ways.

The man of God has returned to Bethel to replenish his strength at the old prophet's house, and this
is where God tells the man of God that he has disobeyed him (1 Kings 13:19–22). The man of God
is a public figure in a pre–idolatry country, he publicly (1 Kings 12:33) gives the word of the Lord to
the people and the king (1 Kings 13:2–3). The entire city know that the man of God prophesied
doom on the alter and the people if they did not turn from their wicked ways. No more than a few
hours later two men come back to the city and told everyone that the man of God had been killed by
a lion, but was not eaten "And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his
carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase. And, behold,
men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they
came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt." (1 Kings 13:24–25 KJV). The man of God
return the place were God commanded him not to refresh himself, everyone knows that God
commanded him not to come back yet here he was, and a few hours later they hear that he is dead. If
the man of God did not needlessly say what God commanded him out in public his direct
disobedience to the word of God would have been dealt with privately. Unfortunate for him,
everyone knows what God commanded which gave way for anyone to consider sin is light deed. If
the prophet had not been put to death, then the word of God would had seemed unnecessary to
follow which than can lead to state that sin is a light matter, and does not need

8. Effect Of The Witches In Macbeth
How do the witches affect the actions of Macbeth?
Macduff enters Holding Macbeth's Lifeless head. "Hail King of Scotland!", Cheer the people. How
did it get to this? How did a soft–hearted and honest noble like Macbeth get into this position? The
quick and easy answer is that it was the work of the three witches.
At the beginning of the play, the three witches gave Macbeth and Banquo prophecies; Macbeth will
be king, thane of Cawdor, and be thane of Glamis. They also said that Banquo's sons will be kings.
At first, Macbeth didn't think much about what the witches said until the first prophecy came true;
Macbeth was awarded Thane of Cawdor. After that Macbeth was sure that the witches were telling

women would kill Macbeth. "Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn the power of man, for

All these predictions made Macbeth very confident in himself. No man born from a woman would

so he thought. He was motivated to be violent and bold in his actions. He killed Macduff's wife and
children and stayed to fight Macduff when Edward's army marched to Dunsinane Hill with branches
of Great Birnam. Since no man born of a woman could ever harm him, Macbeth thought that he
would be able to defeat Macduff. For example, when he killed Young Siward Macbeth didn't even
feel accomplished because he believed that he would never lose a battle to a man and that he
wouldn't be defeated until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane Hill. "Thou wast born of woman. But

Macbeth: The story of A Tragic Hero
Is Macbeth good, bad, evil or nice or just straight up disturbed? The story of Macbeth, written by
William Shakespeare, is about a rising king who had to do daring deeds in order to become king.
One man, with one desire to become king of his home in Dunsinane, becomes a most tragic
character, and even hero.
Macbeth is a self–made man, and he is noble and honorable. He is a warrior, a Thane, and is
respected. However this is not what makes a man a hero. A hero is a person who puts others needs
before him or herself. On the other hand, a tragic hero is a person who desires what he or she wants,
not what is best for others. For Macbeth, it was easy fighting for the king, commanding his friends

murder and his son's become suspects to the murder and leave the city. Macbeth is the murderer, but
feels guilt for it. Macbeth feels sorrow and feels lost after killing Duncan and he says "Will all great

feels after killing his dear friend and colleague. Macbeth starts down a dark road and his wife is his
accomplice. Although Macbeth's wife tells him " My hands are of your color, but I shame to wear a

learn to keep his own feelings in mind as so not to tell anybody about what happened. The
importance of this evidence is that Macbeth had a chance to turn himself in but his wife pushes him

18. Analysis Of Plato 's ' The Democratic Man '
Brandon Wilson
Professor Evans
Intro to Philosophy
4 March 2015
Plato's Democratic Man Plato describes the degeneration to democracy in Book VIII of The
Republic as the relationship between man and the city. There are five stages starting with the first
being and aristocracy led by a philosopher king who is wise and makes the decision for all and his
soul is considered to be that of gold. Aristocracy stage leads to timocracy which would is the new
generation of leaders and their souls are not considered to be made of gold as the philosopher king
would be in the previous stage leading to a stronger lust for wealth. Timocracy then goes to
oligarchy which leads to wealth and poverty, while the wealthy write laws to help them continue to
be wealthy. Oligarchy then degrades to the democracy stage where wealth and freedom, a lavish of
riches so to speak is desired in this stage. Democracy degenerates into tyranny where the people
give into their desires and is considered to be chaos.
Plato thinks that the philosopher king aristocracy would be the best type of government, one needs
to ask would this type of government control man's appetite for wealth and luxuries? The kings
would not themselves accrue wealth according to the republic, so where would it go, to the army, or
to public education, or maybe back to the people to build better means to take care of themselves?
These ideas he has are irrelevant because all the stages intertwine together in some form. They do
not stray

22. Macbeth Tragic Hero Research Paper
Early literature had many stories of great heroes. Among those stories, is the story of a tragic hero.
Tragic heroes are great figures who have to deal with many obstacles that eventually lead to a
downfall. They acquire many qualities and have much nobility above other men of the time. Tragic
heroes usually have a goal or a dream in the future that they try to pursue to get what they want.
Their own actions cause their fate and lead to their downfall. These types of tragedies not only lead
to the downfall of the hero but also normally their death. The deaths seem to be extremely brutal,

that he was afraid of what is to come. Macbeth saw the ghost of Banquo at the feast and he is scared

24. The Man Who Would Be King And Things Fall Apart Essay
In Kipling's "The Man Who Would Be King" and in Achebe's Things Fall Apart two different
cultures of people view gods equally important. Both groups know that the gods will determine their

gods to make themselves appear as gods, and in Things Fall Apart the characters know that the gods
are important for their success in life. My paper will examine how the belief in gods influences the
characters of the stories.
In Achebe's Things Fall Apart the Ibo people have many gods life and they believed the gods
determine their lives which influenced what they did. The Ibo people gave praise to their gods
through sacrificial acts. Unoka says, "Every year... before I put any crop in the earth, I sacrifice A

But little did the king know that this taste of power would bring out new dangerous qualities in
Macbeth. Once Macbeth possessed the power of being Thane

once he was given new power, he craved more; especially when he stumbled upon the witches. He
liked the power that he had and wanted to gain more, no matter what he has to do to get it. Macbeth
had an encounter with the three witches and they had told him that he will become the next king.
Although the witches did say this it did not mean that it was certain, it was just a possibility. But
when Macbeth realized the opportunity for power he knew he wanted to become the king. This
passage was in part of the letter that Macbeth wrote to Lady Macbeth: "Whiles I stood rapt in the
wonder of it came missives from the King, who all–hailed me 'Thane of Cawdor,' by which title,
before, these Weird Sisters saluted me and referred me to the coming on of time with 'Hail, king that
shalt be'" (1.5.6–10). . It seems as if the power and greed now had full control over him, he is doing
things that he wouldn't do when he did not have all this power. This is the first time that we see this
side of Macbeth, the side of him that is greedy for power and is willing to kill the king to do so. In

While watching, I became very interested and curious about why King was the leader of this

Love is the most powerful force in the universe and King understood this. Despite the fact that he
and his people had been treated with nothing but fear, hate, and cruelty from white men, he had a
great understanding that this same behavior would not solve the issue. You cannot fight fire with
fire. Like many other successful revolutions, King knew that love and peaceful protest was the only
way anything was going to change for his people. King preached that the only way to make an
enemy a friend is through love. Although it may have been very difficult for the majority of black
people to choose love over fear when they hadn't received love their entire lives, he strongly
encouraged his people to not hate the white man, for it would simply make the problem worse. King
understood the only way to achieve true equality is with brotherhood, acceptance, and love for all
living beings. This only begins to scratch the surface of what made Martin Luther King an incredible
leader who made history. By looking at how King was able to communicate his ideas effectively, we
can apply the techniques he used in our own lives in order to become better communicators.
Communicating is certainly one of our greatest assets as human beings and it is a skill that can

34. How Is Oedipus Selfish
The well–known play "Oedipus The King" was constructed by a great Greek writer named
Sophocles. "Oedipus The King" was quite an extravagant and dramatic play. The play is about a tale
of an inevitable fate for the king of Thebes. Oedipus was the king of Thebes, and villagers came to
him because they were in grave danger. The town was consumed by the terrible "Black Death"
known as the bubonic plague. Immediately, the king took initiative to do anything that he could
possibly do to bring health back to the people. However, what Oedipus did not know is that the only
way was to kill the person who killed the former king of Thebes, Laios. As the play progresses,
Oedipus is told his fate early on of his journey. Furthermore, along the play, Oedipus showed strong,
studious, and king–like characteristics. Oedipus was a tenacious being; additionally, he displayed
unbiased, penitent, and noble characteristics. First, Oedipus was a tenacious King. When faced with
obstacles, he would not stop until the problem was resolved. He displayed his persistent ways

story it talks about if the soldier was to put on a cloak he would disappear. Another genre for this
story would be a folk tale.
2. The exposition of this story includes the fact that the king has a large family. This includes twelve
daughters that have to be kept a close eye on. For some reason they all have to share one bedroom.
The royal family suspects that they are not spending their nights at home.
3. The rising action would be when the king orders many people to sit and watch the twelve
daughters at night but they don't accomplish the orders that the king gives them so they were killed
after three days of trying. No one could ever

38. The defence speech for Macbeth as a murderer
Ladies and gentleman of the jury. Sitting before you today is a man accused of the murder of
Duncan, the King of Scotland. The prosecution will portray Macbeth as an ambitious man, one who
plotted to murder his own cousin, so that he could lay claim to the title of the crown. But the issue in
this case is not whether Macbeth murdered the deceased. This fact is not disputed. What you must
determine is whether Macbeth was of sound mind when he committed this act. Evidence showed
that this was not so. In fact, Macbeth was the victim in this crime. It was he, who was possessed and
brainwashed by the evil witches. Then it was Lady Macbeth who took advantage of his state of
mind. She pushed him over the edge to fulfil her ambitions of being ... Show more content on

40. How Did Martin Luther King Influence The Civil Rights...
"Most human beings would have never been pained by the death of a human being if they had never
seen a human being or pretending to be pained by that." The Civil Rights Movement arose in the
1950s, when individuals such as MLK and Martin Luther King began to resist segregation and led
movements that pressured lawmakers to make changes. Martin Luther King was a nonconformist
that changed race relations for the greater good.
The actions that have led The Civil Rights Movement was about how African Americans were
getting treated. On December 5, 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested because she was sitting at the front of

himself that he is not afraid of having any problems with others, he won't let things come in his way,
but he isn't a violent person that there are different ways of getting development regardless of
anything he will find a way within the law to fighting for these civilians' rights. "Injustice anywhere

Martin Luther King talked about people coming together that there is many unfair justice out here it
doesn't just affect that one person it affects the whole society. "I submit that an individual who
breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who is willing accepts the penalty of
imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality
expressing the highest respect for law."(King, 1963,p.5) MLK described that people who do the
wrong thing against the law his mindset tells him that he is wrong, but whoever is willing to take the

42. Rudyard Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King Essay
Rudyard Kipling's "The Man who Would Be King" deals with man's ability to rule. The character
Dravot's success and failure in ruling derives from the perception of him as a god, instead of a king.
Kipling uses the perception of Dravot as a god to show that though a king can rule as a god, he
becomes a king by being human.
Dravot gains kingly power by being perceived as a god. The perception of him as a god occurs
through his actions and luck. After helping the first village Peachy and he find in Kafiristan, Dravot
takes power from the former leaders. He becomes more than a leader to the people, however, as
"every morning Dravot sat by the side of old Imbra, and the people came and worshipped. That was
Dravot's order" (92). By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has the symbol for Grand Master sewn onto an apron that he wears in front of a priest, and "the
old chap falls flat on his face at Dravot's feet and kisses em. 'Luck again,' says Dravot,' they say it's
the missing Mark that no one could understand the why of' " (95). The displaying of the mark proves
Dravot as a god, since "only the Gods know that" (99). Dravot establishes his kingdom by ruling as
a god, not a king.
Dravot's perception as a god leads to his downfall by conflicting with his kingly aspirations. He
intends to establish a dynasty, and he needs "a Queen to breed a King's son for the King" (98).
Dravot plans to chose a woman from amongst his tribes; alas, his people are skeptical of this, for
"How can daughters of men marry Gods or Devils?" (99). Dravot's god appearance directly conflicts
with his aspiration for a dynasty; he cannot find a wife who will want him as a god, yet he needs a
woman to bear his children. He ignores all warnings and proceeds to find and marry his queen. The
downfall of Dravot occurs on his wedding day, as his bride bites him––" 'The slut's bitten me!' says
he, clapping his hand to his neck, and sure enough, his hand was red with blood" (100). The sight of
blood awakens the natives to Dravot's mortality. Shrieks of "Not a God, not a Devil, but only a
man!" (100) proclaim in the valley. The natives turn on Dravot, outraged at having thought him a
god.

46. King Henry As A Good King In William Shakespeare's Henry V
What does it mean to be a king as compared to a man? William Shakespeare's work Henry V
attempts to answer this question with a title character who is both. King Henry's morality, defined by
his deeply complex character, rests precariously on the title he is defined by: should he be judged
solely as a king or also as a man? The label makes a difference. Through his actions and leadership
during the play, Henry proves himself to be a good king, one worthy of respect and admiration.
However, at the same time, the same actions do not always reveal a particularly good or virtuous
man. Highlighting the disparity between the two roles, Shakespeare intended for King Henry to be
admired and respected as a good king but not necessarily as a good man.
To understand this distinction, one must first recognize that the qualities that make up a good king
often diverge from those attributed to a good man. For example, to be considered a good man, one
might try to be forgiving and tolerant; however, to be a good king, one often has to be exactly the
opposite. Why does this make sense? It is not because a king is naturally unforgiving or refuses to
take the high road; instead, he has a higher purpose than to be kind to those immediately around
him. To be a good king, one cannot be an emotional creature, but instead be a calculating one. He
should put the needs of his kingdom above all other things, including his own desires or whims. A
good king recognizes that he must serve, protect, and

50. The Man Who Would Be King by Director John Houston
While The Man Who Would Be King director John Huston may have made an effort to mitigate
some of the overwhelmingly imperialist perspectives in his adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's novel,
many depictions of the Easterners in his film still have the air of Western superiority. In fact, if
Huston had completely removed this aspect of Kipling's tale from the story, the film would no
longer be a faithful representation of the original work. The events of the drama are told from the
perspective of a proper Englishman, a sophisticated newspaper reporter who is prominently referred
to as a Freemason. These characteristics alone introduce a superior air to the work, as the narrator's
occupation establishes him not only as a rational thinker, but a questioner, a skeptic not easily
confounded by lies or superstition, and a seeker of truth. The reference to his involvement with the
Freemasons only emphasizes his grounding in Western culture, his acceptance by his peers, his
likely wealthy background, and his influence. The calm intelligence of the narrator is contrasted
with the other two representations of the West, Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan. These are
presented as criminals who have dabbled in thievery, smuggling, conning, and blackmailing, in spite
of having believed in and fought for the expansion of the British empire. When they realize that
their loyalty to the British throne will have garnered them very little at home, they decide to create
their own wealth by deceiving

52. Personality Change In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare's "Macbeth", the title character undergoes a serious personality change. At
the plays beginning Macbeth is a loyal and honorable man who, unfortunately, is immensely
ambitious. As the play progresses however, Macbeth begins to lose the honor that he held onto so
dearly. Macbeths descent into dishonor is displayed in the two most prominent murders in the first 3
acts: the slaying of Duncan and the assassination of Banquo. When Lady Macbeth is convincing her
husband to murder the king, the reader is able to detect his hesitation to commit such a heinous
crime. Also, the remorse Macbeth feels after he murders Duncan proves that he still possesses some
of that honor and loyalty he originally held in such high regard. However, when Macbeth has
Banquo killed he has changed into a cold and evil man. He, Macbeth, no longer clings to his honor
and loyalty. In "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, Macbeth`s has a personality shift that is
showcased in the murders of King Duncan and Banquo. Macbeth is originally depicted as an
honorable and loyal man. However his ambition and his wife lead him to do things he would never
dream of without those influences. The hesitation that Macbeth shows when thinking about
murdering Duncan proves that he started out as an honorable man: "I have no spur/ To prick the
sides of my intent, but only/ Vaulting ambition" (pg. 40 ll 25–27). Without the prodding of his wife,
Macbeth never would have committed the murder of King Duncan.

The man lives in great fear of the eye and that's the only thing he can think about. The man is so

Rudyard Kipling's novella,"The Man Who Would Be King", is about two English men, Daniel
Dravot and Peachey Carnehan, who are cons artists that live in India with the goal of becoming the
kings of Kafiristan. The story is told through a narrator, an Englishman, that stumbles upon the two
characters through a strange interaction at a train station. After meeting up with the narrator at his
job, Dravot and Carnehan gather as much information as they can about Kafiristan and head off in
disguise for their journey to becoming kings. There are many similarities regarding how and why

Kipling also showed how the English empire thought they were superior to the natives of India and
Kafiristan in multiple ways. Dravot would compliment the natives he was ruling over by calling
them English, "These men aren't Indian, they are English." This implies that being English is the
right way to act. Kipling also displayed English superiority when Dravot refused to listen to the
people he was ruling when they protested against him marrying a woman that was not a god.
Kipling too thought that the British gained power in a corrupt manner. This was revealed when
Dravot claimed to be friends with one of the gods the Kafiristan people worshipped. Both Dravot
and Carnehan took advantage of the natives in a fraudulent manner as did the British. Kipling
further showed how he thought the style the British were ruling was poor because both Dravot and
Carnehan mimicked British methods. Both characters created a contract, modernized the country
they took over, and brought new rules, just like the English. In both the story and reality, the people
rebel against the English to reclaim their Independence. Through symbolism, Kipling uses each
character from the novella to display some aspect of the British Empire in a way that reflected his
views. Carnehan represents the expanding aspect of British imperialism. Carnehan actually wants to
grow Kafiristan and care for the people. Dravot represents the monarchy itself by having a

58. To What Extent Is Lady Macbeth A Tragic Hero
A tragic hero is a character who does wrong for their benefit, but leads in a great downfall. There are
many tragic heroes in famous literature all over the world. These tragic heroes show their flaws
leading to a tragedy. In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, the main character
Macbeth is a tragic hero because of his wife, Lady Macbeth manipulating him and desire to become
king. Macbeth's selfish actions led to his tragic death. In the beginning of the play both Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth are good people who were honorable to their country, Scotland. Macbeth was a true
warrior that fought for King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was a lovable innocent woman that supported
her husband. After Macbeth hears the prophecies from the witches he becomes curious about being
King of Scotland. It is his wife, Lady Macbeth who sparks the idea of killing King Duncan. Lady
Macbeth planned on killing King Duncan herself in his sleep, but could not: "...I laid their daggers
ready; He could not miss 'em. Had he not resembled My father as he slept, I had done 't..." (Act 2
Scene 2). If King Duncan did not look similar to Lady Macbeth's father she would have killed him
herself. Lady Macbeth manages to convince Macbeth to kill King Duncan to get to his way to
becoming king. She starts to intimate Macbeth by calling him a coward since he starts to have
second thoughts about the plan. Lady Macbeth knows Macbeth weakness and how to use it against.

60. Symbolism In 'The Tale Of The Enchanted King'?
The story, "The Tale of the Enchanted King", is about how the King is turned into half man half
stone because his wife cheated on him. The king discovered his wife cheating outside the city walls
and sliced the lover's throat to kill him, but the sword only cut the skin and flesh. Because of this,
the wife came home and eventually but a spell on the king, turning him into half man and half stone.
The scene when the king follows his wife to the city gate and follows her still to find her with her
lover is ironic. The imagery depicts a poor citizen's shack with minimal furniture and luxury, yet the
wife treats the black man as if he was a king. The king saw the hut that was "built with palm leaves,
leading to a domed structure built with sun–dried bricks" (57). The king does not express how large
the structure is, so the reader must interpret that his/her own way. The king also notices that the
new–found lover sits on "reed shavings and dressed in tatters" (57). This man does not have enough
money to dress like a king, yet the king's wife treats him like royalty. The wife "kissed the ground
before him," which is the way to greet people of royalty. The wife greets this "king" by saying "'O
my lord and lover'" (57). Here, she even admits that this man, "a decrepit black man," is of higher
status than she, the wife of the king. The wife goes on to explain to her "lord and lover" why she is
late. She tells him that she is married to her cousin, "who finds me most

Let us presuppose to begin with that the cursed jewel is an impossibility and the powers of the

bind such objects together and make them what they are). Additionally it should be considered that
no such object is the means by which a being exerts powers and no such object consciously exerts

The Moonstone is a narrative device which illuminates the text in multiple ways.
Such a device remains popular in western adventure literature and film, whether in the form of an
Egyptian scarab or a monkey's claw. The mystical object with powerful properties is involved in
adventure tales from Conan–Doyle through Indiana Jones, even one of the most famous of modern
legends the fates of Carter and Caernarfon excavators of Tutankahmun's tomb involves a curse and
shameful Orientalism. Perhaps the best indicator of such notions becoming part of western folklore
is when they become utilised as simple metaphor. This is apparent in John Huston's 1975 film
version of Rudyard Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King. The desire of the central protagonists;
Peachy Carnahan and Daniel Dravitt to become "Kings" of an isolated region of the Indian sub–
continent is built upon by the abundance of treasures that becomes available to them, an aspect
absent from Kipling's original tale. Huston's version increases the greed of the two adventurers
which in turn provides a more satisfying justification of their fates than we receive in the original
short story.
Whilst admiring giant rubies Huston's Peachy remarks "All we need do is fill our pockets and we'd
be millionaires." Dravitt then retorts that if they stayed they would be "Kings." Carnahan

All the character at one point or another question each others manhood or masculinity. However it

This makes it seem as if they are at the service of the King and will do what he wants them to do.
According to the article "James I" he was a man who was very interested in the supernatural and
knew a lot about witchcraft (Matthew,1). He knew so much that he even wrote a book called
Daemonologie. This is very interesting because Shakespeare begins Macbeth with three witches and
has them be important characters all throughout the play. This shows that there was some connection
between Macbeth and Shakespeare trying to please the king. Another thing that I though was pretty
interesting about the way in which Shakespeare wrote this piece was that the character Macbeth
becomes king of Scotland and not England. This kind of does not make sense because Shakespeare
was from England and King James was from Scotland. While I was not able to find much about this
online I think that with a little more interpretation of the text and looking a little more at what
Shakespeare says in the play I think that I can find more connection points in order to make this a
valid statement. While looking up the real Macbeth in the article "Shakespeare's Sources for
Macbeth" it mentioned "that the attention that Shakespeare payed to Macbeths conscience would

76. The Man Who Would Be King Imperialism
Imperialism is "the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign
countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies." Rudyard Kipling has expressed
his beliefs towards imperialism and its meaning in several of his works, especially in "The Man
Who Would Be King". In this particular story, two Englishmen go on a dangerous journey to
Kafiristan, where they share the drams to become kings soon after their arrival. This is similar to the
expansion of the British Empire when it was first developing. The British have taken over many
territories around the world, including Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean, and the
Middle East. In many of these places the British have discovered natural resources ... Show more

The idea to take over the natives and their villages was all part of their plan. The two Englishmen
did not leave India without weapons. They had their camels carry twenty martini rifles that they had
hid under a large pile of whirligigs and children's mud toys. The action shocked the narrator as
Kipling did not expect his friends to be so prepared to take the throne. This showed that Dravot and
Carnehan were very serious about becoming kings, so much so that they were willing to use force.
After a couple attacks on the Indians, the Englishmen spoke to some village chiefs and had lied to
them about their identities, they wanted to create fear among them. Dravot states, "This is a
tremenjus business, and we've got the whole country as far as its worth having. I am the son of
Alexander by Queen Semiramis, and you're my younger brother and a god too!" in this quote Dravot
is explaining to Carnehan how the natives view them as gods not humans. Carnehan recalls in
another scene that Dravot also promised the Indians that "every man [would] eat in peace and drink
in quiet" in exchange for their obedience. His rehearsed speech worked in hi favor as he gained the
loyalty he wanted. Kipling probably included this in his story to introduce to the reader the concept
of "noblesse oblige" and how the Englishmen used it to their

78. Macbeth Interview
Interviewer: Hello Macbeth. Thank you for attending this interview. Would you mind briefing me
your whole story?
Macbeth: Yes, of course but it's rather intricate.
Interviewer: Why do you think your story is intricate?
Macbeth: My story is rather unpredictable one and it is all due to my hasty decisions. I basically
killed the King of Scotland to become the King and I was defeated in a battle and lost my power as
king! I misused my power as a king and I suffered.
Interviewer: That was quite a story. There's a saying, with great power, comes great responsibility.
But you becoming King, don't you think you abused your power? Since the start?
Macbeth: I was materialistic, very selfish and believed the witches and wanted everything they said

Macbeth: From the story it is quite evident how I went from being a brave and courageous man to
becoming a lowly person who has to kill someone to attain power. This just showed that power
corrupts ambition. My nature degraded and this I resorted to killing and/or murdering others'
families who were in my way of becoming the king. My degrading nature also affected my
ambition, before I viewed attaining the power of becoming the King as an honor but due to my
wife's persuasion, I rather viewed it as a challenge and made sure that I acquired it. This ended up
having a negative impact on all the other characters in the story. From the guards to the little
children, no one was spared. Many lost their families, children lost their fathers and vice versa. I
became so caught up with the power of becoming the King that I even lost my wife. Even she had
become corrupt with power but guilt caught up to her earlier than me and she killed herself. It was
such a shame!
Interviewer: If you could have the chance to change your actions and rectify what you had done,
what would you do? How would your resulting new actions have a different impact on what will
