Income distribution in Brazil is one of the most unequal in the world. In 1989 it ranked second, in
2006, it ranked tenth. (Matins–Bekat and Kulkarni 2009). Standards of living have been lifted
through economic stabilisation and social programs, such as Bolsa Família (Family Fund Program)
which provides support to parents to feed, clothe, educate and care for their children. Corruption is a
continuing problem with the divide between rich and poor, and the high levels of crime. In
Transparency Internationals' annual Corruption Perception Index, in 2008 Brazil ranked 80 (with the
1st ranking being the least corrupt) out of 180 countries. (Transparency International n.d.). The
Government itself is the target of corruption accusations. For example, the Senate has only 81
members, but is supported by a staff of more than 10,000 – with benefits such as health insurance,
generous pensions and housing allowances, leading to claims of nepotism. Police are currently

Gazal, a similar firm, follows the same strategic approach as Billabong taking the advantage of
being a levered firm and perceived to having a target ratio. Gazal's differs to Billabong in the
approach of taking higher debt–to–equity ratio. Country Road, another comparable firm, takes on a
different capital structure to the others as it recently became an unlevered firm.
Billabong was listed on the ASX in 2000 and has consistently shown a strong performance in
EBITA up to 2008 at $293.06 million, a 12.87% increase over the previous year. The consistent
increase in EBIT over the period has enabled the company to declare stable dividends. During the
same period there is consistent increase in EPS and DPS, hence a sign of Billabong's policy to
attract shareholders by paying high dividend. In 2009 EBITDA slightly decreased from $265.85
million to $242.57 million representing a decrease of 8.6% along with dividend decrease.
Billabong has consistently paid higher dividends than Gazal and Country Road. Gazal dividend
history shows their dividend franking percentage remained constant at 100% from 2004 to 2009.
Country Road franking percentage has increased from 0% in 2003 to 100% in 2009 as they invest in
positive NPV projects. Billabong is perceived to be outperforming the market but Country Road is
quickly closing in, hence Billabong needs to maintain their target payout ratio to

Examples Of Aboriginal Spirituality
'The Dreaming' is an important part of Aboriginal's spirituality. It refers to past, present and future,
and, like other religions, it explains how the land came to be and connects the Aboriginals to their
ancestors.
The Dreaming is foundation for Aboriginal culture and features transcendent and immanent world
views. The term 'Transcendent world views' refers to a person's belief in a higher dimension and/or a
higher power than themselves. There are many examples of transcendent world views in The
Dreaming. The supernatural world that the Aborigines believe in is closely linked with the land. In
fact, they believe that the land and themselves were created by ancient spirits and the land is the
mother of all living things.
These spirits are part of the spiritual dimension which makes them part of the Dreaming's
transcendent worldview. One of these spirits is known as the Rainbow Serpent. The story of the
Rainbow Serpent creating the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also features of The Dreaming that are considered as an immanent worldview. The
Aboriginals pay their spirit ancestors with great respect and honour them as they are said to have
created the land and mouldered all the humans from the ground. These spirits visit the land in
different forms, e.g. animals. As these spirits moved through the land they created animals, rocks,
rivers, plants, and other forms of land that we are aware of today. Once the spirit ancestors had
completed their work they all turned into different objects such as rocks, trees, and waterholes.
Today, these places are sacred to the Aboriginals and are treated with great respect. Since these spirit
ancestors did not disappear after they had finished creating the world but remained in different
places/objects in nature, the Dreaming stories are everlasting and they connect the Aboriginals to
their ancestors, their past and to the

How Does Australia Become Too Americanised
Is Australia becoming too Americanised? Americanisation is to make or become American in
character. American culture is overriding the culture of our nation and will continue to as American
aspects keep becoming larger within Australia. Over the past years Australia's identity is being
merged with America, as aspects like American foods/ brands, TV/film, trends and slang are
becoming extremely popular and influencing Australian citizens. Through these common American
aspects our Australian culture as what it is stereotyped to be fading dramatically.
American based food industries and American brands are becoming increasingly popular within
Australia. Businesses such as McDonald's are more common within Australia compared to places
like the UK as the amount of McDonald's is significantly less. Although McDonalds is an American
company they include Australian produce such as meats to make it seem Australian. Many typical
Australian food brands are actually owned by other American companies, such as vegemite
originally owned by Kraft but is now currently owned by a US Confectionary company. Due to the
change in ownership the once know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the war, Australia struggled to keep up with the increase in Hollywood films and television
programs. This was shown as during the 1960's, 83% of television programs viewed in Australia
were American. America's population is larger than Australia, and as both are English speaking
countries, it is cheaper for America to produce films due to the higher demand and higher economy.
Australian films often include American actors as this creates a higher rating and higher demand to
see the film. As the majority of movies are America based or have American actors, it influences
how Australian's behave and act in terms of language and common slang, as what is portrayed in
American comes forward into

Corporate Governance Evaluation of David Jones Ltd,...
FINS3626 Group Assignment Evaluation of BBG, DJS, TEN, EWC Executive Summary
Phenomenal growth of interest in corporate governance has emerged in recent years. The body of
literature on the subject has grown markedly in response to successive waves of large corporate
failures. Furthermore, there have been numerous attempts to define what constitutes 'good corporate
governance' and to provide guidelines in order to enhance the quality of corporate governance. It
must, however, be acknowledged that while everyone advocates and wants corporations to maintain
'good corporate governance', measuring the quality of corporate governance structures of the
Australian companies has been, at best, very difficult. The major contribution of ... Show more

In particular, the independent judgement of board members is crucial in the bearing on board
decisions to ensure that this goal is achieved. 1. Does the board comprise a majority of independent
directors? Ensuring that a majority of independent directors to monitor the actions of executive
directors helps to address the potential for, or perception of, conflict of interest of executive director
involvement in board decisions. A good corporate governance structure would encourage the board
to regularly assess whether each non–executive director is independent. 2. Are the roles of the
chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO) exercised by different individuals? This clear division
of responsibility would help to counterbalance the power and influence of the CEO in the decision
making of the company's directors. Furthermore, this would enhance the supporting role that may be
assumed by the chairman in being the CEO's confidante. 3. Has the board established a nomination
committee which consists of a majority of independent directors? The board should be structured in
such a way that it ensures an appropriate mix of skills and expertise to govern the company and
enhance its performance role. The committee should be structured in such a way that a majority of
independent directors can enhance the board's

Dinosaurs : What Are Dinosaurs?
Part A: What are Dinosaurs?
Dinosaurs are land–dwelling reptiles that once roamed the Earth and the word comes from a Greek
word that means "terrible lizard". Dinosaurs are defined by their skeleton features, particularly the
way they hold the limbs. Dinosaurs limbs support them from beneath, (like a horse), while modern–
day reptiles (such as crocodiles and lizards) limbs come out from the sides. Dinosaur are a diverse
species ranging in different shapes and sizes and were able to survive in a variety of ecosystems
(Australian Museum, 2016) (Natural History Museum, 2017) (Dinosaur Jungle, 2015).
Dinosaurs are divided into two major groups based on their hip structure, the Saurischia (lizard–

We Are The Boys From Old Britannia Poetic Devices
Songs and song lyrics can take many different forms. Like poetry, they tend to use many different
literary elements to convey a story. While most songs don't necessarily have a rhyme scheme like
some poems, they do however use elements such as imagery, diction, and many more elements that
can be found in poetry. The four songs "Rule Britannia", "Land of Hope and Glory", "Waltzing
Matilda", and "We are the Boys from old Florida" demonstrate the use of poetic elements to tell a
story. Out of all of these songs, none are more poetic than "Rule Britannia". This song uses great
imagery, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in a stunning picture of the illustrious nation
of Great Britain. The use of phrases like 'Britannia rules the waves' ... Show more content on

This can be seen in its emotion. Just like poetry, this song has an ability to create great emotion in
those who hear it and are familiar with its meaning. To someone who is apart of the Gator Nation, it
can stir up a lot of different emotions. For a University of Florida alumni it could bring back
memories of their college days. It could also tie some thoughts into the Florida Ubiquity if the
alumni has relocated. For a current student, it can bring the emotion of pride in being apart of one of
the best universities in the nation. Also, it can remind that student of the tradition of locking arms
and singing "We are the Boys from Old Florida" at the end of the third quarter of every home
football game. For all future students it could give them a feeling of excitement. Being able to be a
part of a great educational system that one can be proud of is very exciting and fulfilling. Just like
poetry, this song uses a lot of imagery. It depicts the family of the Gator Nation in great light. It
says, "We are the boys from old Florida." This showcases the Gator Nation as a group that is proud.
Next, it says, "Where the girls' the fairest... the boys the squarest of any old state down our way."
This tells the audience that the girls are the prettiest and the boys are the most

2.1 Introduction Marketing's role is to match the capabilities and resources within the organisation
with market opportunities external to the organisation. Understanding customer needs is central to
achieving this aim, but marketers must also be aware of factors that can cause customer need to
evolve. A change in customer needs will impact upon the organisation's ability to serve its
customers. This means that marketers have to be knowledgeable about what is happening in the
external environment, or macro environment. Beyond the organisations that immediately influence a
company's operations lies the macro environment. This consists of the larger social and international

Ben Hall Bushrangers
Ben Hall was an Australian bushranger born on the 9th of May 1837 in Maitland, New South Wales.
He died on the 5th of May 1965 after being shot to death by police. He roamed an area of New
South Wales from Bathurst to Forbes. What makes Ben Hall different from many other bushrangers
is that he was never directly responsible for anyone's death. His parents were Benjamin Hall and
Eliza Somers. Both of them had been convicted for minor stealing offences and transported to New
South Wales from England. They married in 1834 and had multiple children. Ben was the fourth
child. After his parents had been released from jail in 1834 they found an area north of Murrurundi

Why Did The Simpsons Continue Over So Many Years
The reason The Simpsons has been able to continue over so many years and seasons are because the
programme is animated. In real time, of course, Bart Simpson would by now be almost 40 years old,
and Homer and Marge would be in their 60s. Animation allows the characters to be preserved in a
timeless bubble where no one has to get older. Bart and Lisa are frozen in the fourth and second
grades, and Maggie is still yet to talk. Animation also allows for an entirely flexible setting that is
evident in the way the Simpsons' home town of Springfield is endlessly malleable. Depending on
the needs of the episode, Springfield has mountains, a harbour, a beach, can be freezing cold or

Terminal Channel Marketing By Billabong ( Barrie 2015 ) Essay
Once the shipments reach an Australian port they are transported, to one of APL's five distribution
centres, by truck due to low accessibility of rail at Australian ports placing a reliance on road
transport (The Allen Consulting Group 2010, p.5). The shipments are deconsolidated and packed
into LTL or FTL for delivery direct to outlets; or multiple outlets along a route using trucks (APL
Logistics 2016b). Additionally, the introduction of omni–channel marketing by Billabong (Barrie
2015) has necessitated frequent and small parcel delivery in a timely fashion. This function is
handled by Star Track Express, who employ a combination of air freight and light truck as modal
choices (Star Track Express 2012). Air freight is ideal for the movement of small parcels and time
sensitive items (Coyle et.al 2009, p.406) that online purchases demand. Light truck is ideal for
pickup and delivery to multiple end customer locations (Coyle et.al 2009, p.403), at the cost
required.
The freight services provided by APL Logistics included chain visibility for not only Billabong, but
their customers and suppliers as well. This is an example of a flexible tripartite enterprise
collaboration, where each party can plan, manage and track shipments (Naim et.al 2006, p.306).
Additionally, there exists the capability to alter the intermodal choices, to benefit the supply chain.
Intermodal capabilities are facilitated by a full service 3PL provider for optimal results allowing

Personal Narrative: Growing Up In Venezuela
My heart raced uncontrollably as I waited for my turn to come. I was sitting, for the first time, in a
classroom in the United States, surrounded by people who were at least 2 years older than I was.
Professor Knapp had asked for each one of us to stand up and state the reason why we were taking
the Entrepreneurship course that summer at the University of Southern California. I thought I was
prepared to answer what seemed like such a simple question, until I heard the responses that my
fellow classmates were giving. "I want to expand my apparel business to other states" "I want to
make even more than the 70 thousand dollars I made in the stock market last year" "I want
universities to encourage the use of the app I built". What was I supposed ... Show more content on

I felt academically challenged. It was the first time in my life when I thought that perhaps I might
not meet the standards. Growing up in Venezuela made me see the world from a very peculiar
perspective. Ever since I was little, I've heard people praising my academic performance and
claiming that I can achieve whatever I want in life, in consequence, they encourage me to take a
break and stop doing so much work. But what I had failed to understand is that the ones who tell me
that are people who were raised seeing nothing but mediocrity. Ironically, in a country sunk in
violence, crime, corruption, brutality and mainly lack of an educated population, a fifteen–year–old
girl who wanted to gain knowledge and debate about international issues was seen as a misfit. No
one understood why I wanted to participate in Model United Nations, work in my free time or spend
the summer learning about business instead of going on the classic 15–year–old's trip around Europe
which all my friends attended to get life experiences like falling asleep at museums and partying all
night long. It was that summer when I decided that if I ever wanted to achieve great things, I needed
to set myself apart from that group of privileged Venezuelans, the ones that had experienced the
same country situation as I had but had decided to continue living in ignorance and just focus on

By doing this, it has not only gained international markets, however it has also become a prestige
and status symbol for its target market. The product and positioning of Billabongs products is the
most important element in its marketing mix as it ensures the long term survival of the company and
continued high sales. By meeting customer demand, positioning itself as a well–known and trusted
brand with a vast amount of prestige it has ensured that sales remain high.
2.1.2 Promotion
Billabong uses a strong promotion mix to highlight and reinforce its image and product. A
combination of an interactive website, promotional magazines and flyers, personal in store selling
and strong public relations through both sponsorship of sporting events and famous athlete using
Billabong products have generated a strong brand images amongst its industry. Billabongs
sponsorship of international sporting events and sporting stars also helps to promote their brand not
only in Australia but also on the international market as well.
2.1.3 Price
Billabong uses a competition–based pricing method in which it sets its prices at a similar level to
those of its competitors to ensure that their customers will not wish to buy the cheaper products.

What business is Billabong in and how does it differentiate itself?
Billabong operates within the highly competitive surfwear industry comprised of the 'Big Three'
including Quicksilver, Rip Curl and Billabong itself, along with a pool of smaller firms and
specialist manufacturers. It employs a number of strategies in order to differentiate itself from these
rivals and maintain its authentic association with surfing culture. These strategies include pursuing a
niche market of 10–24 year old brand obsessed and anti mainstream consumers, multi branding,
high involvement in multiple promotions to convey that Billabong is genuine and linked directly
with the sport and also the strength of the brand itself. These strategies enable Billabong to ... Show

Billabong has further strengthened the notion of being rooted in surfing culture through the creation
of the Billabong Odyssey concept, where the brand sends surfers to remote locations simply to catch
waves that have never before been attempted. Additionally, through having their products featured
in an internationally acclaimed surfing film, the brand not only resonated with surfers around the
world, but also encouraged growth in the women's market.
Another method of differentiation used by Billabong is its strategy of multi branding. Billabong
pursues a niche market of 10 to 24 year olds who are brand orientated and are willing to spend
accordingly to ensure that they are anti mainstream. The implication of pursuing such a segment is
that Billabong must ensure that its brand does not become too large and mass market, as this would
result in a loss in credibility from its consumer base who are seeking individualism and
independence. Consequently, unlike its major rivals, Billabong has implemented a strategy of multi
branding instead of attempting to push the brand into other product areas. This multi branding
strategy has led to the acquisition of Element in 2001, a US skate wear manufacturer, and also Von
Zipper which is known for its sunglasses and snow goggles. In contrast Rip Curl has focused on

Eutrophication, an impending predicament, is defined as "a change of the nutritional status of a
given body of water. This enhanced plant growth (algal bloom), reduces dissolved oxygen in the
water when dead plant material decomposes and can cause other organisms to die" (Pathak &
Pathak, 2012). Sewerage discharge and soil erosion enhances Nitrogen and Phosphate inputs, and
forestry practices increase the mobilisation of nutrients (Sandforth, Bloxham, & Worsfold, 2003).
Consequently, they are classified as immediate causes of eutrophication (Sandforth, Bloxham, &
Worsfold, 2003). The Australian Paper Sustainability Report (Williams, 2013) details the following
practices: "Water, sludge and mud, are diverted to the wastewater clarifiers where the solids
components are collected, dewatered through the Effluent SludgeRecover (ESR) presses and then
composted" and the "testing of the mercury levels of fish in the Latrobe River and onsite billabong,
which was only partially completed due to budgetary constraints." The sludge disposal method
reduces: sewerage discharge; therefore, excess nutrient input; and overall, the risk of eutrophication.
The soil conditioning methods, mentioned previously, are Australian Paper's only measures to stop
soil erosion. Additionally, there are no strategies designed to minimise the effects of forestry
practices on waterways and the partial examination of mercury levels is not sufficient monitoring of

Marketing Case Study on Nixon
PART 1: Introduction
INTRODUCTION
In an age when cell phones and mp3 players display tiny quartz clocks, the mechanical
wristwatch has slowly become less of an object of function and more a piece of modern culture, for
both men and women. However, this was not always the case. Less than 100 years ago, no self–
respecting gentleman would be caught dead wearing a wristwatch. In those days of yore, real men
carried pocket watches, with a gold half–hunter being the preferred status symbol of the time–no
pun
intended. It wasn't until the late 1800's when soldiers discovered their usefulness during wartime
situations. Pocket watches were clumsy to carry and thus difficult to operate while in combat.

Education today, prospering tomorrow
Over the years, our Australian Indigenous people have been subjected to immense anguish, which

This additional information provides investors with relevant information to assess the business on
and evaluate what they can expect from an investment in the company.
In calculating the solvency of a business, a clear indication of its financial position can be
determined. Solvency describes the ability of a business's assets to cover its liabilities if they fall
due. From certain figures in the balance sheet, the current ratio can be calculated. This ratio divides
total current assets by total current liabilities. If a company is solvent, this ratio will be greater than
1; in this case it is 3.3, which indicates that the current assets can cover the current liabilities three
times over and is therefore indicative of a financially stable company.
The majority of the debt of Billabong is tied up in unsecured borrowings. Unsecured borrowings are

Jackie French's A Waltz For Matilda
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if there was more meaning behind the song Waltzing
Matilda? No, well there is. It may not be true but it definitely got me interested. Jackie French, an
Australian author, wrote the book A waltz for Matilda. While reading the book you discover a story
of a young girl who soon becomes an orphan in the desert country of Australia. Her name is Matilda.
Matilda wasn't always alone she had her Parents and her Aunt Ann, but one year that all changed.
Her family soon vanishes from this world to another. As you continue to read the story you uncover
many stories and you start to feel like you're a shadow that's always behind the characters, you're
watching the story play out. Matilda was a young girl who grew up to help change a nation in which

is. I've been asked many times "why, out of all the books you could read, why that one?" my answer
was always the same "Because it's different. Imagine if you read the same type of book over and
over again. It would become quite boring. Reading A Waltz for Matilda just brings a bit of

It is desirable to develop demographic and psychographic profiles of these likely consumers (the
target audience).
Accurate details of a target audience can only be obtained by means of credible market research
practices. However, inferences and assumptions can be made beforehand to aid any research. Some
of the demographic characteristics of the Billabong target audience are, as mentioned previously,
males and females between the ages of around 12 – 35 (although advertising is usually specific to
one particular gender as seen in the example of Appendix A). Such individuals are predominantly
situated in coastal regions where the beach/surf/sun culture thrives (as clearly demonstrated in
Appendix A), although there are significant deviations from this trend especially in recent times
with such a broad, climate and geographically unbiased product range spanning some 2200 lines in
Australia alone (Billabong International 2004). Economic factors can sometimes play a role in
defining a target but in this case the audience is not necessarily limited to any specific economic
traits; for example, income brackets are not easily defined for consumers as Billabong International
offers such a variety of products satisfying both functional lifestyle needs and fashion influenced
desires, hence the user's likelihood of purchasing is expected to be more dependant on the

Customer Solutions Differ From Traditional Marketing Solutions
INTRODUCTION
Customer solutions may differ from the traditional but this does not mean that traditional solutions
have become irrelevant or that the two are explicitly separate. The following paper seeks to illustrate
the symbiotic relationship of the stated solutions by focusing on two separate supplier examples.
The case studies examined will be the Business to Business (B2B) mining equipment producer

The beginnings of these definitions can be seen in the 4C's approach first proposed by Lauterborn
(1990) which indicated a shift from the mass production based 1960's 4Ps to a focus on customers
seen today. Figure 2 represents the overlay of the 4Cs on the 4Ps showing the interaction between
the early customer based models and the traditional solution.
Figure 2: Customer orientated 4Cs vs Traditional Marketing 4Ps Mix
SOLUTION RELATIONSHIPS
The difference between the traditional and customer solution is the emphasis placed on the
consumers' wants and needs. This change is closely aligned with the gradual move away mass
production markets described by Wolf (1998) through to the personalised and customised markets of
today. Although this now consumer oriented marketing is based on winning each customer
individually it could be argued that all that is happening is the 4Ps are being 'individualised'. It is the
modern technology advances that have driven the customers' needs and ultimately suppliers have
had to match this by stretching the bounds of the generally internally oriented 4Ps (Bennett, 1997).
It is widely accepted that the e–commerce market is most affected by the move to savvy,
information fuelled customers (Constantinides, 2002). By focusing the first case study on a non–e–

Billabong was founded in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia in 1973 by Gordon Merchant. At
first, he designed and created the board shorts at his home and then sold them to local surf shops.
Surfers soon realized the durability of Merchant's board shorts that was the result of his triple–
stitching technique. Merchant understood that his company needed to expand to achieve success, so
Billabong started to sponsor contests–these contests increased the public's awareness of Merchant's
products and the company consequently expanded. By the 1980s, Billabong board shorts were
present throughout Australia.[citation needed] Based upon his success in Australia, Merchant

The Tigerlily decision represented the first time that Billabong had acquired a brand that focused
exclusively on the 'girls' market, and the intention of management was to position the new addition
so that it complemented the company's own 'Billabongs Girls' line.[11] In 2008 Billabong continued
with the consistent acquisition activity that occurred in 2007 and announced four acquisitions over
four successive months. Following the acquisition of the Gold Coast store Kirra Surf in May, the
company announced its acquisition of the retail operations of Quiet Flight, a retail company on the
east coast of the US that had already been operating licensed Billabong and Element retail outlets in
Times Square, New York, US. The Quiet Flight deal resulted in the addition of 14 Quiet Flight and
Surf Warehouse retail stores, most of which were located in Florida, US.[12] Then in June 2008, the
founders of the Sector 9 skateboard company accepted an offer from Billabong that also included
the purchase of the Gullwing skateboard truck brand.[13] Finally in August, Billabong confirmed
the acquisition of boardsport accessories brand DaKine, which specialises in backpacks, bags,

The Murray Darling Basin (MDD)
The Murray Darling River Basin: The Basin can be found in South–Eastern Australia and mostly in
the New South Wales, with a hot semi–arid North and North–East and a warm semi–arid South due
to the proximity of the Southern Pacific Ocean ("About The Murray Darling Basin", 2016);
vegetation consists of mostly small shrubs and sparse to semi–dense trees. The two largest rivers are
the Murray and the Darling. They both find headwaters in the Australian Alps, along with other
tributaries which flow into the basin, and are influenced by seasonal rainfall but also the La Nina
and El Nino oceanic patterns. The basin itself is a flat plain located on what is known as the Murray
Darling Depression (MDD). The plain as it is roughly seen today was created about 50–60 million
years ago the region was a shallow sea; but the region had been a shallow see many times before
this, as sea levels have risen and fallen over the past few hundreds of millions of years. As a recent
the tertiary and quaternary sediment deposits found here can be up to 600m thick (NSW National
Parks and Wildlife Service, 2003). Inflow of water to the plains is ... Show more content on

Another interesting issue is the carp that were introduced to the dams by fisherman ("General
information about carp – biology, ecology and impacts | NSW Department of Primary Industries",
2016). The carp in the dams spread through the river system and are causing havoc as they breed
rapidly and lower the water quality. The carp are also suspected of coming from fisherman who used
them as live bait. There is now an eradication plan underway using daughterless carp (The
Australian Government, 2012). The plan entails introducing genetically modified carp into the
ecosystem that only produce male off spring, thus in theory slowly eradicating the

The Bush Ranger Poetic Devices
Good morning, Ms yen and Mr loriaux today I will be presenting my 3 poetic devices on 2 poems
that I chose, which are"The Bush Ranger" By Edward Harrington and "Waltzing Matilda" By Banjo
Patterson and this is what I'll be talking about throughout the presentation.
The Bush–rangers is a bush ballad, bush ballads is a style of poetry that gained popularity and
recognition in the late 19th century and the early 20th century that eventually became an important
symbol of Australian literary and culture. The bush rangers is a bush ballad that narrates the action
packed and adventurous experiences of Ned Kelly. In the bush ranger by Edward Harrington I will
be talking about "rhymes".
Rhyming was consistently used throughout the poem, Harrington

Australian dollar Essay
Question 2
a) A fall in the value of the Australian dollar (AUD) against the U.S. dollar (USD) benefit Billabong
in two folds, strengthened price competitiveness and translation advantage. Firstly, the Americas
segment accounts for about 50% of Billabong's sales revenue in 2008 and 2009. (Appx.1) In case of
depreciation of AUD against USD, the price of imported surfwear to the U.S. in terms of USD will
decrease. The US importers demand more for Billabong's products. The sales increases from the
strengthened price competitiveness. Secondly, when Billabong received payment from the
importers, it will translated back into AUD for use in Australia. As AUD depreciate, the receipt in
USD can be translated into more AUD than before, bringing ... Show more content on

Billabong may diversify its production by foreign direct investments in the U.S. e.g. set up local
production plants. In case of appreciation in AUD against USD, the price competitiveness of
products would not be weakened as compared with local products. Flexible sourcing could be
applied to allow switch of production from one country to another. Learning from Stanley Black &
Decker, Billabong could reduce its import to the U.S. and export more from the U.S. production
plant to other countries when USD depreciate against other currencies. This help to create long–term
economic competitiveness in the U.S. market.
For diversification of market, a more balanced market distribution is recommended. The current
position of Billabong is highly dependent on the Americas segment with almost half of the revenues.
If the situation continues, trading in other segments cannot help if the Americas segment fails.
Revenues when diversify in different currencies could be better secured from the economic exposure
of exchange rate risk.

Business And Strategic Analysis Of Industry Wide Factors
Business and Strategic Analysis Industry–wide factors Kathmandu (KMD) main operation is in
Australia and New Zealand, and they have recently established their operation in the UK market.
Industry wide, sport equipment generally seasonal, in Billabong, their sale would be higher in
summer, while for KMD, the sale results for the whole financial year is directly dependent on sale in
Winter and Easter. (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2015) The seasonal nature of the industry also
means that a larger portion of sales and net profit should be from the second interim, along with
higher level of borrowing that KMD used to purchase inventory. (Kathmandu Holdings Limited,
2015) There seems to be a general shift in customer interest toward more fashionable and
sustainable clothing, the change which KMD responses by modifying their design. (Cauchi, 2014)
and (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2014) While this is a reasonable response, this also means that
they will now face competitions from new competitors such as Target, or Big W. (Cauchi, 2014)
Furthermore, customers can relish the joy of shopping at home with the rise of internet, mobile
phones and personal computers, which create online competitions. KMD has quickly responded to
this by opening its online market trading place such as eBay in Australia and Trade Me in New
Zealand. (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2015) This has been proven a successful move as growth is
33% and only sale is now 5.8% of total revenue. (Kathmandu Holdings

Industry Analysis With the expansion of world economy, surfing is not only a sport but also a life
style and that leads to high demand of surfing products. The number of firms enters that industry
keep increasing as its attractive potential profits and less barrier to enter into that industry. Both
companies have more bargaining power compared with their supplier and customer as their famous
brand and diversified products could encourage suppliers to have long term business relationship
with the company and satisfy the unique needs of customers. Overall, the prospects of this industry
are optimistic; it did not shock too much under the downturn of economy. Surfing is an increasingly
popular and well–known culture; companies need to continuing innovation in order to satisfy
customer's needs. b. Competitive Analysis As number of firms in the industry keeps increasing,
greater competition force firms to earn more market share, innovate substitutes, produce
differentiate products and be cost leadership to keep or improve their position in the industry. For
example, some of the products of Billabong and Quiksilver are similar, consumer will choose to buy
the one with lower price if they have similar function, or buy the one with higher price if the product
is different from others. Thus, a firm could run well if it has different products and lower cost
compared with rivals. c. Corporate Strategy Analysis Billabong hires different design teams for each

Income distribution in Brazil is one of the most unequal in the world. In 1989 it ranked second, in 2006, it ranked tenth. (Matins–Bekat and Kulkarni 2009). Standards of living have been lifted through economic stabilisation and social programs, such as Bolsa Família (Family Fund Program) which provides support to parents to feed, clothe, educate and care for their children. Corruption is a continuing problem with the divide between rich and poor, and the high levels of crime. In Transparency Internationals' annual Corruption Perception Index, in 2008 Brazil ranked 80 (with the 1st ranking being the least corrupt) out of 180 countries. (Transparency International n.d.). • 44. Personal Narrative: Growing Up In Venezuela My heart raced uncontrollably as I waited for my turn to come. I was sitting, for the first time, in a classroom in the United States, surrounded by people who were at least 2 years older than I was. Professor Knapp had asked for each one of us to stand up and state the reason why we were taking the Entrepreneurship course that summer at the University of Southern California. I thought I was prepared to answer what seemed like such a simple question, until I heard the responses that my fellow classmates were giving. "I want to expand my apparel business to other states" "I want to make even more than the 70 thousand dollars I made in the stock market last year" "I want universities to encourage the use of the app I built". What was I supposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt academically challenged. It was the first time in my life when I thought that perhaps I might not meet the standards. Growing up in Venezuela made me see the world from a very peculiar perspective. Ever since I was little, I've heard people praising my academic performance and claiming that I can achieve whatever I want in life, in consequence, they encourage me to take a break and stop doing so much work. But what I had failed to understand is that the ones who tell me that are people who were raised seeing nothing but mediocrity. Ironically, in a country sunk in violence, crime, corruption, brutality and mainly lack of an educated population, a fifteen–year–old girl who wanted to gain knowledge and debate about international issues was seen as a misfit. No one understood why I wanted to participate in Model United Nations, work in my free time or spend the summer learning about business instead of going on the classic 15–year–old's trip around Europe which all my friends attended to get life experiences like falling asleep at museums and partying all night long. It was that summer when I decided that if I ever wanted to achieve great things, I needed to set myself apart from that group of privileged Venezuelans, the ones that had experienced the same country situation as I had but had decided to continue living in ignorance and just focus on ... Billabong operates within the highly competitive surfwear industry comprised of the 'Big Three' including Quicksilver, Rip Curl and Billabong itself, along with a pool of smaller firms and specialist manufacturers. It employs a number of strategies in order to differentiate itself from these rivals and maintain its authentic association with surfing culture. These strategies include pursuing a niche market of 10–24 year old brand obsessed and anti mainstream consumers, multi branding, high involvement in multiple promotions to convey that Billabong is genuine and linked directly with the sport and also the strength of the brand itself. These strategies enable Billabong to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billabong has further strengthened the notion of being rooted in surfing culture through the creation of the Billabong Odyssey concept, where the brand sends surfers to remote locations simply to catch waves that have never before been attempted. Additionally, through having their products featured in an internationally acclaimed surfing film, the brand not only resonated with surfers around the world, but also encouraged growth in the women's market. Another method of differentiation used by Billabong is its strategy of multi branding. Billabong pursues a niche market of 10 to 24 year olds who are brand orientated and are willing to spend accordingly to ensure that they are anti mainstream. The implication of pursuing such a segment is that Billabong must ensure that its brand does not become too large and mass market, as this would result in a loss in credibility from its consumer base who are seeking individualism and independence. Consequently, unlike its major rivals, Billabong has implemented a strategy of multi branding instead of attempting to push the brand into other product areas. This multi branding strategy has led to the acquisition of Element in 2001, a US skate wear manufacturer, and also Von Zipper which is known for its sunglasses and snow goggles. Eutrophication, an impending predicament, is defined as "a change of the nutritional status of a given body of water. This enhanced plant growth (algal bloom), reduces dissolved oxygen in the water when dead plant material decomposes and can cause other organisms to die" (Pathak & Pathak, 2012). Sewerage discharge and soil erosion enhances Nitrogen and Phosphate inputs, and forestry practices increase the mobilisation of nutrients (Sandforth, Bloxham, & Worsfold, 2003). Consequently, they are classified as immediate causes of eutrophication (Sandforth, Bloxham, & Worsfold, 2003). The Australian Paper Sustainability Report (Williams, 2013) details the following practices: "Water, sludge and mud, are diverted to the wastewater clarifiers where the solids components are collected, dewatered through the Effluent SludgeRecover (ESR) presses and then composted" and the "testing of the mercury levels of fish in the Latrobe River and onsite billabong, which was only partially completed due to budgetary constraints." The sludge disposal method reduces: sewerage discharge; therefore, excess nutrient input; and overall, the risk of eutrophication. The soil conditioning methods, mentioned previously, are Australian Paper's only measures to stop soil erosion. Additionally, there are no strategies designed to minimise the effects of forestry practices on waterways and the partial examination of mercury levels is not sufficient monitoring of Maryvale's adjoining rivers or ... Marketing Case Study on Nixon PART 1: Introduction INTRODUCTION In an age when cell phones and mp3 players display tiny quartz clocks, the mechanical wristwatch has slowly become less of an object of function and more a piece of modern culture, for both men and women. However, this was not always the case. Less than 100 years ago, no self– respecting gentleman would be caught dead wearing a wristwatch. In those days of yore, real men carried pocket watches, with a gold half–hunter being the preferred status symbol of the time–no pun intended. It wasn't until the late 1800's when soldiers discovered their usefulness during wartime situations. Pocket watches were clumsy to carry and thus difficult to operate while in combat. Therefore, ... This additional information provides investors with relevant information to assess the business on and evaluate what they can expect from an investment in the company. In calculating the solvency of a business, a clear indication of its financial position can be determined. Solvency describes the ability of a business's assets to cover its liabilities if they fall due. From certain figures in the balance sheet, the current ratio can be calculated. This ratio divides total current assets by total current liabilities. If a company is solvent, this ratio will be greater than 1; in this case it is 3.3, which indicates that the current assets can cover the current liabilities three times over and is therefore indicative of a financially stable company. It may not be true but it definitely got me interested. Jackie French, an Australian author, wrote the book A waltz for Matilda. While reading the book you discover a story of a young girl who soon becomes an orphan in the desert country of Australia. Her name is Matilda. As you continue to read the story you uncover many stories and you start to feel like you're a shadow that's always behind the characters, you're watching the story play out. Figure 2 represents the overlay of the 4Cs on the 4Ps showing the interaction between the early customer based models and the traditional solution. Figure 2: Customer orientated 4Cs vs Traditional Marketing 4Ps Mix SOLUTION RELATIONSHIPS The difference between the traditional and customer solution is the emphasis placed on the consumers' wants and needs. This change is closely aligned with the gradual move away mass production markets described by Wolf (1998) through to the personalised and customised markets of today. Although this now consumer oriented marketing is based on winning each customer individually it could be argued that all that is happening is the 4Ps are being 'individualised'. It is the modern technology advances that have driven the customers' needs and ultimately suppliers have had to match this by stretching the bounds of the generally internally oriented 4Ps (Bennett, 1997). • 77. The Murray Darling Basin (MDD) The Murray Darling River Basin: The Basin can be found in South–Eastern Australia and mostly in the New South Wales, with a hot semi–arid North and North–East and a warm semi–arid South due to the proximity of the Southern Pacific Ocean ("About The Murray Darling Basin", 2016); vegetation consists of mostly small shrubs and sparse to semi–dense trees. The two largest rivers are the Murray and the Darling. They both find headwaters in the Australian Alps, along with other tributaries which flow into the basin, and are influenced by seasonal rainfall but also the La Nina and El Nino oceanic patterns. The basin itself is a flat plain located on what is known as the Murray Darling Depression (MDD). The plain as it is roughly seen today was created about 50–60 million years ago the region was a shallow sea; but the region had been a shallow see many times before this, as sea levels have risen and fallen over the past few hundreds of millions of years. If the situation continues, trading in other segments cannot help if the Americas segment fails.
