To learn about negative multiplication 
CONTENT ANALYSIS 
Terms: negative, subtract 
Facts : (i) multiplication is the continuous addition 
(ii) −푎 + −푎 = −(푎 + 푎) 
Concepts : The concept of negative multiplication 
Principle: 푥. (−푦) = −(푥. 푦) for all positive x and y 
Process: The process of teaching learning negative multiplication. 
Process skills: calculation, observing.
LEARNING OUTCOMES 
The pupil : 
i. Remembers the above facts, concepts related to negative multiplication. 
ii. Develops understanding on the above facts, concepts related to negative multiplication. 
iii. Applies the above facts, concepts in new and relevant situations. 
iv. Discriminates the above facts, concepts related to negative multiplication. 
v. Detects the above facts,concepts related to negative multiplication. 
vi. Designs a new idea related to negative multiplication. 
vii. Develops skill related to negative multiplication. 
viii. Create interest related to negative multiplication. 
Pre requisites : multiplication, addition of numbers. 
Learning aids: chart, bangles, activity box etc.

Introduction 
Teacher asks what is 6-4? 
Also what is 4-6? 
Is 2-3 = 3-2? 
We studies the above said facts in VII class. 
Today , we will study a new concept.

Before that shall we play a game? 
Activity 
Teacher divides the class into 6 groups. 
Teacher presents a box of bangles. 
The bangles are shuffled and kept inside the box. 
Teacher says : 
I will give the box to each group, you have to take a bangle from the 
box, without looking. There are 3 chances for each group. 
If you take a green one, you will get 10 points and if you take a red 
one you will lose 5 points. 
Shall we start? 
Teacher presents a chart. 
Yes 
Students actively listens to teacher. 
Students actively take part in the 
activity 
Students fill the chart

How will you find the points of each group? 
Suppose, group I took G G R 
G = 10 
G = 10 + 10 = 20 points 
R = 20 – 5 = 15 points 
Total = 15 points 
Now group II took R R G 
A red bangle = -5 points 
When another red bangle is taken, 
-5 + -5 
= - (5+5) = -10 
And then a green bangle , 
= -10 + 10 = 0 
We write 5 + 5 = 2 X 5 right? 
So,, what is -5 + -5 = ? 
-5 + -5 = 2 X –(5) 
= -10

Now what is 3 X (-5)? 
= (-5) + (-5) + (-5) = -15

  • 3. Before that shall we play a game? Activity Teacher divides the class into 6 groups. Teacher presents a box of bangles. The bangles are shuffled and kept inside the box. Teacher says : I will give the box to each group, you have to take a bangle from the box, without looking. There are 3 chances for each group. If you take a green one, you will get 10 points and if you take a red one you will lose 5 points. Shall we start? Teacher presents a chart. Yes Students actively listens to teacher.
