Why Classify? Classification Overview
• Add structure to the vast number of emails/documents that
are sent/created every day.
• Prevent data leaks and meet compliance requirements.
• Insert embedded metadata into emails, documents and files.
This metadata can be leveraged by third party Security
Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems or other
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) system components.

Editor's Notes
Example speakers notes:
You may know TITUS as a classification company, but we are more than just a classification company. We enable organizations to put their data protection strategy into action.
Key messages:
Reposition TITUS as a data protection company- data classification is an important and foundational part of that story though!
Wehelp organizations identify what they have through classification (and other activities) but we also help them apply the policy to secure it.
“Investment Banking” Configuration – Identity is defined by group membership or account. NEW!
No need to classify everything because in this scenario, IB user gets a specific classification type.
So what would happen if a user from Investment Banking tried to share a document with a Brokerage user?
So, How do you classify?
We can learn from the box companies:
They have to communicate to people and to machines the nature of the content that is invisible inside the box
Handlers need to know: Is it breakable? How should it be stored?
How did they do it? With visual markings, or classifications (also called metadata, or “data about the data”)
This classification permanently affixed to the box and is persistent no matter where the box goes.
Any person who handles the box at any point in the chain of custody will know not to get it wet, to handle with care, and how to store it. Machines can read the barcode and gather more information.
-whiteboard #4
Can we apply this same principle to electronic files?
We need to - How do we identify which electronic file is sensitive?
How do we engage the user in data protection if they don’t know what they are handling?
PERSISTENT Classifications and visual marking can be applied to electronic files as well. These tell the users and your data governance technology ecosystem how to handle the file, such as restricting sharing, applying encryption, or authorizing its deletion.
TITUS is the data classification authority – being the first to market, our products and solutions continue to evolve with the needs and demands of our customers. As a result, we offer organizations three ways to classify and identify their information - best practice in the industry is a combination of all three:
Automated Classification (Data Centric): many organizations have sensitive data that needs to be identified and classified with a certain label that does not require user involvement (i.e PII, ITAR labels, Financial Information). As a result, TITUS can enforce security policies to automatically classify the email, document or file and prevent users from disclosing this sensitive information.
Guided Classification (Data Centric – User Enabled): for those organizations who are looking to promote a culture of security and educate their employees about the sensitivity of information, they often opt to include guided classification to engage users as they work. Guided classification is a great tool to teach your employees about the policies they agreed to when signing their confidentiality agreements and is a critical step towards maturing your organizations understanding of information security.
User Driven Classification (User Centric): there is no better perspective on the sensitivity of the information then the one that comes from the data creator (the user). When you have a classification strategy that involves multiple labels, it is important to provide your users the tools they need to appropriately classify the information.
The TITUS Classification 4 suite makes working within these different policy based structures, easier.
Administrators can tailor configurations to individuals or groups of users via Active Directory integration. All configurations are published in a single file which can be pushed out to clients or hosted on a file share or web server. Users see only the classification and policy options that are appropriate to their Windows identity, even if they share a workstation with other users. This approach is much easier to manage than in 3.5, when administrators had to manage multiple files to define the user experience for different roles or user experiences throughout the enterprise. This feature also requested by our customers and this will give us more power against competition.with 4.3 we will be able to configure the security policies based on customers-especially for the global companies and for complex organizations - different needs.
We provide a set of products called the TITUS Classification Suite. The suite enables end users to identify and protect the information they are working with - whether that information is in Outlook email, Office documents, or any file type on the Windows desktop.
Our classification products also include TITUS Mobile for Classification, which is an easy to use email and document security solution for mobile devices that prevents data loss and ensures the right users have access to the right information.
Finally, our TITUS Illuminate product allows you to discover, identify, automatically classify and protect your data at rest across the enterprise, on premise and in cloud shares. It also provides visibility into a data inventory, allowing you to make risk based decisions based on various trends (where it’s being stored for example).
Let’s have a look at some sample use cases to show how TITUS products can help solve your business problems.
