1. Introduction to Plant Pathology
Phases in Plant Pathology Study
II. Pathogenesis
A chain of events in the development of disease.
An insight of Host-Microbe interaction. We scrutinize both pathogen
and host
3. I. Active Movement (Dispersal) II. Passive movement (Dispersal)
By oneself By agency or carrier
Fungi: Zoospores Wind,Water,Soil,Tools etc.
Bacteria: Flagella Wind,Water,Soil,Tools etc.
Nematodes: Muscles Water,Soil,Tools etc.
Virus? Vector
4. Inoculation: When host and pathogen come in contact
Inoculum:
i. Fungi: spore, hyphae, mycelium, fruiting body
ii. Nematode: egg, juvenile,adult
iii. Bacteria: bacterial cell
iv. Virus: Virus particle
Propagule: Single Unit of Inoculum
8. Basis of this Recognition
Plant produces cues which are picked by pathogen
Plant allows pathogen to attach and enter into it
Plant has certain nutrients which are required by pathogen
Plant doen’t has anti-microbial compounds to kill the pathogen etc.
9. Agree on pathogen but why plant allows pathogen to live and take
away the nutrients ????
