1. In this tutorial we are going to understand Cisco IOS modes
Cisco IOS Mode
There are various command mode supported by Cisco IOS ,some of
them are explained below :-
1) User EXEC Mode
This mode is primary mode when you trying to logged into router
.Usually User EXEC mode is password protected in industries
environment and you have three chance to enter valid username
and password to access this mode before connection attempt is
refused.As shown in fig:-
Where router is the hostname .Router> sign show that you are in
User Exec. We cannot change the configuration of the router in User
EXEC mode .This mode has limited commands as show in fig below
:-
2. 2) Privileged Exec Mode
Privileged Exec Mode is the main mode of the router you can access
all other modes of the router through only Privileged Exec Mode.This
is also password protected in industry environment but may opened
in Lab environment. You can enter into Privileged Exec Mode by
entering the enable command at user exec mode.Router# where
router is the hostname show that you are in Privileged Exec Mode

3. 3) Global Configuration Mode
The name of this mode clearly tells the story , in this mode we are
able to change the configurations of the router globally .To enter in
this mode configure terminal command is used at Privileged
Exec Mode
To retun back to Privileged Exec Mode use the Ctrl+z, exit or
end command at Global configuration mode
4) Interface configuration mode
To configure the interface or interface related setting are available
in interface configuration mode
Type interface type number at global configuration mode for
example.
Interface fastethernet 0/0
Look at (config-if)# this shows tou are in interface configuration
mode
