6. FAQs: Why …?
• Why special focus for Mining Sector in a separate session?
Mining risks are quite unique in the view of aboveground and underground operations and cannot be covered by
general property insurance in full.
There are solutions available for risk-managers to take into account when addressing and managing risks that are often
not covered (just a few examples: underground fire / flood, tailings dams, Collapse of/in Ore Passes, etc.)
• Why Political Risks and Trade Credit Solutions?
Both groups of risks are quite universal and will be of interest for wider audience of BCM members.
Political risks (Terrorism / War, Strikes and Civil Commotions) are always assessed by investors and owners of the
companies, when entering business. But they are rarely protected against. This brings uncertainty which you can
mitigate by risk management and insurance solutions.
Trade Credit risks when not handled properly have quite a straightforward correlation with actual losses of the
companies, which have trade operations. Respective mechanisms provided by specialized insurance are effective tools
to mange this.
At the same time both groups of risks are excluded from general types of insurance, require additional expertize to deal
with and quite limited number of insurance markets to access. Aon will share their experience on that.
• Why Aon London?
As centuries before, London Market is still a cradle for Insurance and respective Risk Managing solutions, especially on
the specialty side.
In combination with the European Continental markets and effective cooperation with Asian insurance markets, Aon
London is capable to provide solutions and capacity for the risks not available at the local markets due to specifics of
such risks.
Aon would like to bring these markets and their expertise closer to you.
