Descriptive Essay About A River
I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water
flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always
on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and
scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must
have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that?
Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the
privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I
remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the
same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color
painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink
clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line
trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others.
Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked
me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my
four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the
river as much as me. Straight

Descriptive Writing Definition
Writing is the illustration of language in an exceedingly matter medium through the utilization of a
collection of signs or symbols. It's distinguished from illustration, like cave drawing and painting,
and non symbolic preservation of language via non textual media, like as magnetic tape audio.
Writing has been with us for many thousand years, and these days is more important than ever.
Having spread steadily over the centuries from clay tablets to PC chips, it's poised for additional
dramatic advances. Though hundreds of millions of people are still unable to read and write,
humanity depends on writing to an unprecedented extent. It's quite possible that, today, more
communication takes place within the written than in the oral mode.
The purposes of writing are narrated (narrative writing), narration is story telling. In some ways it's
the best kind of writing as a result of it comes so naturally to most people. Practically everybody
enjoys telling and hearing stories. Narratives sometimes progress chronologically, and should have a
clear starting, middle and finish. Short stories, novels, personal narratives, anecdotes, and
biographies are all examples of narrative writing. Description (descriptive writing), the concept of
description is to create the thing described seem real to the reader's imagination. Not much writing is
only descriptive, writers usually weave description into longer narrative works. Some essential
descriptive writing, however, might include

Storm Descriptive Writing
The creepypasta
The channel's surfed by in a constant stream of nonsense and commercials, nothing good is ever on
in the AM. Still somehow tv seemed more entertaining than being out on this summer night. A snap
of heat lightning took my attention. Looking through the window next to the tv, the moon was
barely breaking the tree line as the clouds quickly passed. The warm air smelt like it was carrying in a
storm. Some other smell lingered with it, something like... An old man's breath? The house started
to rumble with the first signs of thunder. I guess it was a good idea to stay in tonight after all.
Shutting the window I noticed something out of place, a tooth on the sill?! It looked like.. a molar.
How? I started rolling my tongue...show more content...
The window sill flashed with a sudden burst of light another rumble shook the house. Without a
second thought I lifted the screen and flicked the foul thing, slamming the window shut before
the rain decided to start falling. How could that tooth have gotten there? Wasting no time I
hurried to make sure no other portal's were left open to let the weather in. As I walked further
away from the window I could still smell something, the old man's breath... It almost seemed to
be getting stronger and uniquely intense. Making my way through the house the smell was
consistent room to room. Finally I made my way to the bathroom just to check my mouth out of
paranoia. When I looked in the mirror everything seemed fine, one of my top left teeth fell onto
the sink bouncing off the rim and onto the floor. I couldn't believe it. I heard some sort of
scuttling accompanied with soft dark whispers but couldn't focus. As I stared at my tooth I could
feel the warm trickle of blood starting to hit my tongue. The bathroom door slowly started opening,
but only slightly. No one's supposed to be here for another few days? A small ash black almost
translucent hand appeared feeling the bathroom floor as if it was someone lying down. I had no

Descriptive Essay : My Dream
In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds
filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see
land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so
rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I
will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the
water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them.
Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat
travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink
and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the
distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and
closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large
waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown.
Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an
allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I am in a small boat alone
like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough

Descriptive Essay On An Island
The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto
the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face.
Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into
one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that
moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my
head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side
already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of
night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded
away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful.
After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got
trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A
series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so
I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was
surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal,
to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it
seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they
were painted on.
I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought
freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged
happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful
sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew
gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach
started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits
suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell,

Running Descriptive Writing
My breath is fading, my face becomes red,
My legs are becoming weak and useless,
And my hair is now tangled to my head.
All of my sweat make me look like a mess.
The hills grow longer with each step on mine,
The wind jerks my body like a cold force.
I focus in on the sidewalks cracked lines.
Blood runs through my veins, my heart is the source.
Running makes the world rapidly zoom by,
The run lets my mind wonder the troubles,
As my options go as far as the sky.
The downhill permits my pace to double.
I start to finish as he time is beat.
Mind and Body cleansed, running is a treat.

Descriptive Essay About A Hero
When talking about a hero, some people might think of a veteran, a fire fighter, or even
superman. The definition of the word "hero" varies between different people; however, my
definition of a hero is someone who is selfless, brave, and strong. Someone who doesn't runaway
when things get hard, who gives their all just for the wellbeing of others regardless of the strain it
puts on themselves. When thinking of the word "hero" the only person who comes to my mind
is my cousin Cassy. Cassy fits my own personal description of a hero; she is selfless, brave, and
strong. She doesn't run away when things get tough and most importantly, she looks out for
others no matter what the situation is. What is a hero to you? On September 24th of 2017, my
parents, along with my sister and I, walked into my grandma's house around three o'clock in the
afternoon. My aunt Patty had told us she had very important news for us to hear that evening. As
we sat down in the living room of my grandma's small condo, everybody looked at one another
awkwardly waiting for someone to speak first. My mom started the conversation by asking how
long my aunt was going to be in town. My aunt slightly teared up as she tried to spit out her
response. She began to tell us that she was actually moving back home to Fargo from the farm
place her and her boyfriend lived at near Devils Lake. My aunt started to stutter after a while and
then finally blurted out the sentence that nobody ever wants to hear come from a loved

PICTURE THIS! Boxed in a cave where there are no cracks in the rock to let in sun rays. You and a
couple of friends have lived here your whole lives only talking to each other, sharing ideas, making
a fire to provide everyone a source of heat and entertainment.
The only entertainment you all have are the shadows that pop onto the wall from the light of the fire.
When a shadow appears on the cave wall, the images you see are different types of animals, plants,
people, and even the sun. Discussion arises every time a shadowy figure appear which sparks
everyone to show their intellectual perspective on each reflection. Believing that if you understand
the images that are being projected onto the cave's wall, you will be successful in life but truth is,
those pictures are just mere shadows. One day, you're stumbling around and made a mistake
finding a way out of the cave. As you are walking to the exit of the cave, you are now entering into
a whole new way of life that you once didn't know existed. Upon entering the outside world, you
are intrigued to see what the sun really is, how the plants have different colors and smells, and
what animals really look like. Eager to convey the world that you saw outside the cave, you
stumble in the darkness heading back inside because your eyes have finally adjusted to sunlight and
the lack of light is making it very hard to see in thr dark. You finally

Descriptive Essay On Dystopia
Dystopian Setting
The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever,
was now a contaminated wasteland. The land looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning
breeze felt like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of
despair lies dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his
utopia. Only visible by the dim light of the moon was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew.
Stretching away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the
bridge was a tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy
and dangerous looking eyes stared down at the city giving away a haunting look.
The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this
abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The screams and cries of terror undistinguishable
between beast and human fill the ears of the last ones living. The sky, which was lit by the glow of
fires, is grey and empty. Decaying bodies and...show more content...
As I walked, the air of this haunted, dreadful and sorrowful land had sucked the life out of
everything and roared as humanity began to disappear. As I carried on walking, I noticed that the
small fraction of light was getting smaller and smaller, until it had been engulfed into a think
black ash like smoke. Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling,
blowing away all signs of life. Deeper and deeper into the land was a burning car door. The fire
roared and crackled. The roaring and crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive
air and created the loudest sounds ever heard on land. Growing darker, the skies made me feel
nauseous. The fear of not waking up if a human fell asleep towered

Descriptive Writing
With the vast possibilities of imagination, nonfiction descriptive writing has become very
instrumental in allowing readers the opportunity to live experiences led by various authors in the
field. As a result, most readers envision writers as artists expressing their paintings in writing, using
a pen as the brush and a paper as the canvas. Using this analogy, readers expect to enjoy the meaning
of the story through the content, experience some sense of verisimilitude through the style, and
perceive the attention to detail through the grammar. With these key concepts in mind, one looks to
examine two nonfiction descriptive writings by two different authors on two different subjects and
try to determine how these various central concepts make each story truly exceptional. For this
analysis, one examines E.B. White's Once More to the Lake and Langston Hughes' Salvation. To
begin, the authors of each story have two completely different subjects; however, they both went
back to their childhood memories as a way of expressing the main idea in the story. White initially
conveys that the main reason he wanted to return to the lake in the woods was to reexperience the
tranquility of the lake, as remembered during his childhood. He relates these childhood experiences
with happiness, peacefulness, and amusement. He also used these childhood memories as a means
of contrasting the experiences he had as a child with his present–day experiences as an adult

Descriptive Essay About Spring
Spring is such a wonderful and joyful season. The air begins to warm, and the temperature rises
slowly. Not only that, but the days seem to be getting longer as well. As the snow begins to melt in
northern America, the lovely flowers begin to bud and the flies begin to come out. The tree buds
starts greening and preparing itself to grow. The air smells different as opposed to winter, it smells
fresh and alive. Spring wraps up winter, and leads on to the hot and humid season called summer.
Spring is the season that prepares itself for the next season, as forestry is starting to grow and
thrive. The animal kingdom also uses spring to mate. The bears that were hibernating no longer have
to hibernate. The smell of freshly cut grass also goes through the warm spring air.
The grouchy people of winter also start to become happy again. Most people dislike winter as it
cold and the driving condition are not great. However in spring, everything is having life, or
coming back to life; as well as their spirits. Spring is finally the time where people can finally eat
outside, open up the window to let fresh air in. Nothing is better than seeing the neon green trees
and grass shining through the low amounts of snow that might still be left behind by Mother Nature.
The farming trade also begins in spring; the farmers begin to plant their vegetables so they can
harvest them when the time is right. Spring also has a very nice holiday, Easter. Families gather at
each other's houses and

Descriptive Essay On The Desert
The hot, arid air burned into my soul as millions of needles pricked my delicate skin. Beads of
sweat coursed down my face as I turned towards the window facing the barren desert surrounding
me. My family and I were on an ever sought vacation to the Grand Canyon, yet we had to drive
from New York to Arizona and I radiated impatience throughout the journey. Walls of heat
shrouded me as I gasped for air, yet my efforts were fruitless, swallowing nothing but fire. As my
lungs collapsed, I looked out the window and into the heart of the looming sun, taunting me from
afar. Suddenly, my eyes gave out and sweat and tears engulfed them till they took their true form.
A forest blanketed with soft and gleaming snow, blemished by the phrase: "Only 10 more
minutes." However, I was awakened from my revery by a vehement cry as I gazed into the eyes
of tattered vultures, of every discrepancy, with an unforgettably shrill voice. "Who dares enter our
land!" they screeched dissonantly. Trembling, my eyes flashed over the sun and I was standing
in a perpetual desert, with vulture's eyes glued to me. I froze with fear, though the sun baked my
skin. "A meal for today," the vultures rasped flamboyantly, "cooked to a crisp!" "Uh," I sighed, "I
couldn't wait 10 minutes to save me from you repulsive demons." I woke up, like a corpse rises
from the grave, my bloodshot eyes flooded with tears. The cool air lulled my throat, dissipating the
faint memory of a raging fire and loathsome vultures

Great waves toss and turn with great force. Rushing as they collide with the earth soaking the soft

water creeps forward, then lazily seeping back in the vast ocean, only to do the same over and
over again. The deep sea is a mysterious place where sea creatures lurk beneath the waves. Blue,
sparkling water is everywhere you look with no end. The humming waves seem to whisper as if
telling me the most confidential secret. You can never really hear them clearly until you dive in
deeper and deeper. I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I'm not
even certain I've seen all it's beauty that lies beneath. I can see the shadows of tiny fish swimming
above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and

Descriptive Essay Of A Restaurant
Once I stepped inside the restaurant I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate
level and the laughter of the customers. Right off the back the restaurant's ambiance had a positive
vibe. Mindful, it was a Saturday late afternoon. Mary Jane Burger and Brew is a local restaurant
trying to stay true to its past. The granddaughter of the original owner now runs the place with the
intention of serving good quality food where the ingredients are fresh, mouth watering, and surely
not filled with antibiotics and all that other genetically modified elements found in processed foods.
The vintage, rustic looking place, holds a small town atmosphere with a big taste.
The host sat my sister and I at a table in the middle of the dining area. A giant window let sunlight
flood into the room and the speakers provided a good backdrop of music to help engage
conversation. The restaurant itself seems fairly modern: leather seating, dark wood tables, and
mason jar for glasses. It is the epitome of a hang out spot for any teen, millennial, or elder
meetup. The staff caters to the needs of the customers and are always ready to help out in any
way possible. I started the meal off with a glass of sweet tea that never made it lower then the
halfway point. The waitress was always there with a pitcher of their home brewed sweet tea. The
tea itself was not too sweet, it had the subtle taste of the bitterness that tea should have. In other
words it did not taste like someone dumped a bag

the large circular grassy field that we had passed on our journey. Surrounding the field on the outer

Descriptive Essay About A Journey
I was sitting in the airport waiting with my heart filled with adrenaline, skies looking clear, and the
sun shining brightly. Going to Maine to a teen camp was very exciting but I could not help getting
goosebumps thinking about all the new faces I will have to encounter. Quietly I asked myself how
can this trip be more intimidating? Being away from my family was painful and four hours of
travelling was supreme torture. I was nervous, sweating, and contemplating the thought of returning
home where I truly belong. Nonetheless, the moment for me to depart had arrived. Placing my
suitcase in the trunk was melancholic but necessary. Complete discomfort covered my whole body
during the two–hour ride because the thought of living with fourteen strangers for a month was not
something that I was prepared for. Being far from home meant deleting the ability to be myself,
taking away my comfort zone, and becoming mute. It was 4 o'clock when I arrive at the camp and
the first thing I saw were tons of smiles, that radiate a welcoming feeling with the intention to
make us feel at home. It was awkward to see people that have never seen me be so happy by my
presence. Tall trees with vivid green coloured leaves and the brown dirt covered the entire scenery.
Even Though, the wet climate kept us trapped inside the view was breathtaking. Me being
pessimistic I waited anxiously to see if this day could be bombarded by even more misfortunes.

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by
a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an
abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them
that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a
whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics.
These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my
experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we
wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In
this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with
describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of
the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's
Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly
made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I
added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell
it. It

It has been six very long days, I cannot wait any longer for the chapter to be uploaded, I am both
excited and exhausted. The days usually pass me by finding new short stories to read, which for
the most part lasts a day or more. Then I am back to finding new stories and I always find some
good ones, because of the several genres that are on the website. The website is called Wattpad. It
is where my favorite writer can make his talent shine. The website is where the youngsters and
college students get their best drafts up on the website for the readers to enjoy and as the time
passes the writers grow into their best version of themselves in the writing department. The writers
are mostly college students and High Schoolers that have a love for writing. The books have many
genres but my interest will always be in the romance books. The romance genre is popular since it's
mostly teenagers that are acquainted with Wattpad. Even though the romance books can get a little
repetitive I love how the plots are always twisted to the author's liking. The books are rarely
complete mostly, because of the authors' lifestyle, whether they have too much to do in school or
their interest goes to another story they have been writing. The incompleteness irks me since that
means I would not know what is going to happen. I try to stay away from the unfinished tales,
nevertheless, I end up with one in my reading list anyway. The story I am currently interested in is
incomplete, that is only

Descriptive Writing Essay

  • 1. Descriptive Essay About A River I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that? Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others. Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the river as much as me. Straight Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Writing Definition Writing is the illustration of language in an exceedingly matter medium through the utilization of a collection of signs or symbols. It's distinguished from illustration, like cave drawing and painting, and non symbolic preservation of language via non textual media, like as magnetic tape audio. Writing has been with us for many thousand years, and these days is more important than ever. Having spread steadily over the centuries from clay tablets to PC chips, it's poised for additional dramatic advances. Though hundreds of millions of people are still unable to read and write, humanity depends on writing to an unprecedented extent. It's quite possible that, today, more communication takes place within the written than in the oral mode. The purposes of writing are narrated (narrative writing), narration is story telling. In some ways it's the best kind of writing as a result of it comes so naturally to most people. Practically everybody enjoys telling and hearing stories. Narratives sometimes progress chronologically, and should have a clear starting, middle and finish. Short stories, novels, personal narratives, anecdotes, and biographies are all examples of narrative writing. Description (descriptive writing), the concept of description is to create the thing described seem real to the reader's imagination. Not much writing is only descriptive, writers usually weave description into longer narrative works. Some essential descriptive writing, however, might include Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Storm Descriptive Writing The creepypasta The channel's surfed by in a constant stream of nonsense and commercials, nothing good is ever on in the AM. Still somehow tv seemed more entertaining than being out on this summer night. A snap of heat lightning took my attention. Looking through the window next to the tv, the moon was barely breaking the tree line as the clouds quickly passed. The warm air smelt like it was carrying in a storm. Some other smell lingered with it, something like... An old man's breath? The house started to rumble with the first signs of thunder. I guess it was a good idea to stay in tonight after all. Shutting the window I noticed something out of place, a tooth on the sill?! It looked like.. a molar. How? I started rolling my tongue...show more content... The window sill flashed with a sudden burst of light another rumble shook the house. Without a second thought I lifted the screen and flicked the foul thing, slamming the window shut before the rain decided to start falling. How could that tooth have gotten there? Wasting no time I hurried to make sure no other portal's were left open to let the weather in. As I walked further away from the window I could still smell something, the old man's breath... It almost seemed to be getting stronger and uniquely intense. Making my way through the house the smell was consistent room to room. Finally I made my way to the bathroom just to check my mouth out of paranoia. When I looked in the mirror everything seemed fine, one of my top left teeth fell onto the sink bouncing off the rim and onto the floor. I couldn't believe it. I heard some sort of scuttling accompanied with soft dark whispers but couldn't focus. As I stared at my tooth I could feel the warm trickle of blood starting to hit my tongue. The bathroom door slowly started opening, but only slightly. No one's supposed to be here for another few days? A small ash black almost translucent hand appeared feeling the bathroom floor as if it was someone lying down. I had no Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay : My Dream In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Descriptive Essay On An Island The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful. After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal, to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on. I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. Descriptive Essay About A Hero When talking about a hero, some people might think of a veteran, a fire fighter, or even superman. The definition of the word "hero" varies between different people; however, my definition of a hero is someone who is selfless, brave, and strong. Someone who doesn't runaway when things get hard, who gives their all just for the wellbeing of others regardless of the strain it puts on themselves. When thinking of the word "hero" the only person who comes to my mind is my cousin Cassy. Cassy fits my own personal description of a hero; she is selfless, brave, and strong. She doesn't run away when things get tough and most importantly, she looks out for others no matter what the situation is. What is a hero to you? On September 24th of 2017, my parents, along with my sister and I, walked into my grandma's house around three o'clock in the afternoon. My aunt Patty had told us she had very important news for us to hear that evening. As we sat down in the living room of my grandma's small condo, everybody looked at one another awkwardly waiting for someone to speak first. My mom started the conversation by asking how long my aunt was going to be in town. My aunt slightly teared up as she tried to spit out her response. She began to tell us that she was actually moving back home to Fargo from the farm place her and her boyfriend lived at near Devils Lake. My aunt started to stutter after a while and then finally blurted out the sentence that nobody ever wants to hear come from a loved Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Descriptive Essay On Dystopia Dystopian Setting The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever, was now a contaminated wasteland. The land looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning breeze felt like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of despair lies dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his utopia. Only visible by the dim light of the moon was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew. Stretching away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the bridge was a tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy and dangerous looking eyes stared down at the city giving away a haunting look. The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The screams and cries of terror undistinguishable between beast and human fill the ears of the last ones living. The sky, which was lit by the glow of fires, is grey and empty. As I carried on walking, I noticed that the small fraction of light was getting smaller and smaller, until it had been engulfed into a think black ash like smoke. Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling, blowing away all signs of life. Deeper and deeper into the land was a burning car door. The fire roared and crackled. The roaring and crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive air and created the loudest sounds ever heard on land. Growing darker, the skies made me feel nauseous. • 11. Descriptive Writing With the vast possibilities of imagination, nonfiction descriptive writing has become very instrumental in allowing readers the opportunity to live experiences led by various authors in the field. As a result, most readers envision writers as artists expressing their paintings in writing, using a pen as the brush and a paper as the canvas. Using this analogy, readers expect to enjoy the meaning of the story through the content, experience some sense of verisimilitude through the style, and perceive the attention to detail through the grammar. With these key concepts in mind, one looks to examine two nonfiction descriptive writings by two different authors on two different subjects and try to determine how these various central concepts make each story truly exceptional. For this analysis, one examines E.B. White's Once More to the Lake and Langston Hughes' Salvation. To begin, the authors of each story have two completely different subjects; however, they both went back to their childhood memories as a way of expressing the main idea in the story. White initially conveys that the main reason he wanted to return to the lake in the woods was to reexperience the tranquility of the lake, as remembered during his childhood. He relates these childhood experiences with happiness, peacefulness, and amusement. He also used these childhood memories as a means of contrasting the experiences he had as a child with his present–day experiences as an adult Throughout the story, he looks Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Descriptive Essay About Spring Spring is such a wonderful and joyful season. The air begins to warm, and the temperature rises slowly. Not only that, but the days seem to be getting longer as well. As the snow begins to melt in northern America, the lovely flowers begin to bud and the flies begin to come out. The tree buds starts greening and preparing itself to grow. The air smells different as opposed to winter, it smells fresh and alive. Spring wraps up winter, and leads on to the hot and humid season called summer. Spring is the season that prepares itself for the next season, as forestry is starting to grow and thrive. The animal kingdom also uses spring to mate. The bears that were hibernating no longer have to hibernate. The smell of freshly cut grass also goes through the warm spring air. The grouchy people of winter also start to become happy again. Most people dislike winter as it cold and the driving condition are not great. However in spring, everything is having life, or coming back to life; as well as their spirits. Spring is finally the time where people can finally eat outside, open up the window to let fresh air in. Nothing is better than seeing the neon green trees and grass shining through the low amounts of snow that might still be left behind by Mother Nature. The farming trade also begins in spring; the farmers begin to plant their vegetables so they can harvest them when the time is right. Spring also has a very nice holiday, Easter. Families gather at each other's houses and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Descriptive Essay On The Desert The hot, arid air burned into my soul as millions of needles pricked my delicate skin. Beads of sweat coursed down my face as I turned towards the window facing the barren desert surrounding me. My family and I were on an ever sought vacation to the Grand Canyon, yet we had to drive from New York to Arizona and I radiated impatience throughout the journey. Walls of heat shrouded me as I gasped for air, yet my efforts were fruitless, swallowing nothing but fire. As my lungs collapsed, I looked out the window and into the heart of the looming sun, taunting me from afar. Suddenly, my eyes gave out and sweat and tears engulfed them till they took their true form. A forest blanketed with soft and gleaming snow, blemished by the phrase: "Only 10 more minutes." However, I was awakened from my revery by a vehement cry as I gazed into the eyes of tattered vultures, of every discrepancy, with an unforgettably shrill voice. "Who dares enter our land!" they screeched dissonantly. Trembling, my eyes flashed over the sun and I was standing in a perpetual desert, with vulture's eyes glued to me. I froze with fear, though the sun baked my skin. "A meal for today," the vultures rasped flamboyantly, "cooked to a crisp!" "Uh," I sighed, "I couldn't wait 10 minutes to save me from you repulsive demons." I woke up, like a corpse rises from the grave, my bloodshot eyes flooded with tears. The cool air lulled my throat, dissipating the faint memory of a raging fire and loathsome vultures Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Great waves toss and turn with great force. Rushing as they collide with the earth soaking the soft sand. The ocean seemed to be howling as every wave grew as tall as a mountain. Slowly, the water creeps forward, then lazily seeping back in the vast ocean, only to do the same over and over again. The deep sea is a mysterious place where sea creatures lurk beneath the waves. Blue, sparkling water is everywhere you look with no end. The humming waves seem to whisper as if telling me the most confidential secret. You can never really hear them clearly until you dive in deeper and deeper. I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I'm not even certain I've seen all it's beauty that lies beneath. I can see the shadows of tiny fish swimming above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and run my hands through the wet substance that is so thick that my muscles grow tired the deeper my hand goes. As I lift my hand up, the sand makes a cloud of powder, slowly drifting through the water. The waters are so calm as though nothing could anger them. Each wave slowly rocking back and forth to the rhythm of the sea. I lower my fins beneath the water and a coolness rushes through me as I feel the cold, wet water. The soft breeze brushes against my skin with the scent of an indescribable satisfaction. Hours passed as the warmth of the sun seemed to just soak into my skin and relax my mind. As the day goes on, it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Descriptive Essay Of A Restaurant Once I stepped inside the restaurant I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate level and the laughter of the customers. Right off the back the restaurant's ambiance had a positive vibe. Mindful, it was a Saturday late afternoon. Mary Jane Burger and Brew is a local restaurant trying to stay true to its past. The granddaughter of the original owner now runs the place with the intention of serving good quality food where the ingredients are fresh, mouth watering, and surely not filled with antibiotics and all that other genetically modified elements found in processed foods. The vintage, rustic looking place, holds a small town atmosphere with a big taste. The host sat my sister and I at a table in the middle of the dining area. A giant window let sunlight flood into the room and the speakers provided a good backdrop of music to help engage conversation. The restaurant itself seems fairly modern: leather seating, dark wood tables, and mason jar for glasses. It is the epitome of a hang out spot for any teen, millennial, or elder meetup. The staff caters to the needs of the customers and are always ready to help out in any way possible. I started the meal off with a glass of sweet tea that never made it lower then the halfway point. The waitress was always there with a pitcher of their home brewed sweet tea. The tea itself was not too sweet, it had the subtle taste of the bitterness that tea should have. In other words it did not taste like someone dumped a bag Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Field Descriptive Writing It was an impulsive decision, but I thought it would be nice to hang out with more people than usual. The deal was to go to a small hill in Royal Park to enjoy the sunset, but we found the view covered by the dauntless Royal Melbourne Hospital. Everything was still quite bright even though it was 6 pm. I didn't want to go back home so I retraced my steps. A short walk from the hill was the large circular grassy field that we had passed on our journey. Surrounding the field on the outer edges were countless amounts of trees. I noticed that there were still people walking around the field. Although they were far away, I could distinguish them from the surroundings due to how bright the field was. I found it interesting that the photoreceptors...show more content... I can see the glow of buildings from far away. The world steadily grew darker around me, but it wasn't impossible to see things yet. The clouds, with their darker grey color popped out amongst the dying blue of the sky. A star came out to play, signaling that the sun was nearly finished setting at this side of the world. It was hard to see the dancing grass. They seemed to have merged with the rest of the background. I didn't need a flashlight yet although I struggled to figure out the writings on my notebook. At this stage of time, due to the presence of low light intensity my rod cells would be more active thus letting me see in areas with low visibility. Without them I would not be able to navigate in darker areas as my cone cells do not activate with low presence of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay About A Journey I was sitting in the airport waiting with my heart filled with adrenaline, skies looking clear, and the sun shining brightly. Going to Maine to a teen camp was very exciting but I could not help getting goosebumps thinking about all the new faces I will have to encounter. Quietly I asked myself how can this trip be more intimidating? Being away from my family was painful and four hours of travelling was supreme torture. I was nervous, sweating, and contemplating the thought of returning home where I truly belong. Nonetheless, the moment for me to depart had arrived. Placing my suitcase in the trunk was melancholic but necessary. Complete discomfort covered my whole body during the two–hour ride because the thought of living with fourteen strangers for a month was not something that I was prepared for. Being far from home meant deleting the ability to be myself, taking away my comfort zone, and becoming mute. It was 4 o'clock when I arrive at the camp and the first thing I saw were tons of smiles, that radiate a welcoming feeling with the intention to make us feel at home. It was awkward to see people that have never seen me be so happy by my presence. Tall trees with vivid green coloured leaves and the brown dirt covered the entire scenery. Even Though, the wet climate kept us trapped inside the view was breathtaking. Me being pessimistic I waited anxiously to see if this day could be bombarded by even more misfortunes. When entering the cabin there were fifteen bunks, one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Descriptive Writing Essay The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell it. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Descriptive Writing It has been six very long days, I cannot wait any longer for the chapter to be uploaded, I am both excited and exhausted. The days usually pass me by finding new short stories to read, which for the most part lasts a day or more. Then I am back to finding new stories and I always find some good ones, because of the several genres that are on the website. The website is called Wattpad. It is where my favorite writer can make his talent shine. The website is where the youngsters and college students get their best drafts up on the website for the readers to enjoy and as the time passes the writers grow into their best version of themselves in the writing department. The writers are mostly college students and High Schoolers that have a love for writing. The books have many genres but my interest will always be in the romance books. The romance genre is popular since it's mostly teenagers that are acquainted with Wattpad. Even though the romance books can get a little repetitive I love how the plots are always twisted to the author's liking. The books are rarely complete mostly, because of the authors' lifestyle, whether they have too much to do in school or their interest goes to another story they have been writing. The incompleteness irks me since that means I would not know what is going to happen. I try to stay away from the unfinished tales, nevertheless, I end up with one in my reading list anyway. The story I am currently interested in is incomplete, that is only Get more content on HelpWriting.net
