I'm not a super open person with people I just met, just like my mom. She expects me to do the

Heaven help you if you do anything to endanger her family. My mom also does not go soft on her
kids; she can be a formidable disciplinarian when she wants to and will not hesitate to set us
straight when we broke the rules. She won't let anybody walk over her and is really quick to anger

Stress about school, my appearance, my social status, my future, among other worries consumed my
thoughts, and I could not figure out why. To satisfy my problems, I came to the incorrect assumption
that nothing I did mattered in the long run. This only shifted my sadness from stress about
everything to the empty feeling that I was living for no reason. I drifted through the days,
attempting to forget about my ridiculous idea, but for some reason my birthday triggered the
insecurity inside. I tried to hide my pain, so no one would not worry about me. After a small

she most definitely didn't have to take me in, but she did. I'm so unbelievably proud to call my
mom my hero. When I was just a baby, I was living with my Biological mom and it was an abusive

I had always been very fond and proud of my hair. No matter what others tell me, I would always go
infront of my mirror andlook at my hair, and believe me, I had never been unsatisfied by it. I used
to wonder what was wrong with these people. I had my hair just like my mother's; half curly and half

When I was born, I was one pound and ten ounces. I was too small to be a healthy child. I was put

There was one old man who shared his story of how he came back from serving in the Middle
East and no one wanted to hire him because he is a retired veteran. There was also a young
woman who shared her story on how she escaped her abusive household. All of these stories
would make me sad, and mad with the injustices in the world. From them I realized how
privileged I am to have a roof over my head, have food, water, and receive an education. From
these stories, my mom inspired me to give back to people that are less fortunate and one day share
this experience when I have children of my own.
Between my mom and my dad, I tell my mom the majority of what goes on in my life instead of
my dad. My dad was raised completely different than my mom. My dad was raised by rules and
guidelines while my mom was raised on consequences. With this in hand, my dad's rules for me
never worked out since I would do the complete opposite. One of these occasions was the day I
snuck out with my friend Linda to the beach at midnight. I was happy to feel the cold sand on my
toes, and smelling the salty breeze from the ocean. I wanted to get away from the stress of senior

The next morning my mom asked me how school was going and I told her that I met a girl named
Lily and told her what was happening. I asked my mom if there was any way we could help her
out and give her healthy foods from the garden. "That would be a wonderful thing to do." My
mom said with a giant smile on her face. I then packed a lunch for Lily and I and headed out the
door. I walked into the lunch room and sat next to Lily and my 3 best friends, Jennifer, Brittany,
and Kendall. I handed the lunch that I had made for her and immediately saw that she was starting
to cry. Drips were coming down her face as if she was walking in the rain.
