When the challenge of beginning college presented itself, I had no goals in mind. When you're 18 and have a high school diploma in your hand,
people tend to see you as a piece of molding clay. Your friends and family can't resist telling you what you should do and how you should do it.
They also never fail to pile on the questions. Not having the answers to such seemingly simple questions like, "What do you want to be?" "Where do
you want to go?" "How are you going to do it?" can make a young, ambitious person question herself. But the reality was, I just did not know yet. I
considered becoming a business manager, a dental hygienist, an accountant, a nurse. Originally, I thought not having a solid plan meant I wasn't

Graduation Speech : High School
In the spring of 2014, I graduated as valedictorian from Klukwan High School located in the Panhandle of Alaska. During my high school career, I
maintained status on the high honor roll and received the title of Student of the Month the first month of every school year for four years. In 2011 and
2012, I was selected to attend the YouthLeadership Institute in Anchorage as a student delegate for the Chatham School District. There, I met other

Solution To Plastic Pollution
I am writing this letter because our ocean's ecosystem is in danger due to plastic pollution. According to the United Nations, approximately 60 to
95 percent of the pollution in our oceans is caused by waste, specifically plastic. In a study conducted by Plymouth University, they found that at
least 700 marine species are negatively impacted by plastic pollution and approximately 100 million marine mammals are killed each year from
plastic pollution. That being the case, plastics have affected a large amount of marine species. We see plastic everywhere; plastic bags, drink
bottles, Styrofoam, micro plastics, and so on. Plastics also releases different types of toxins that are both harmful to marine animals and humans.
Marine animals are dying every day because they are ingesting plastic waste. They also get tangled up in the debris and slowly die because they
are unable to move and escape. Greenpeace reported there are at least 267 different species that have suffered from the ingestion of plastic and
entanglement. One of these species is the loggerhead sea turtle. The jellyfish are a source of nutrition for these sea turtles and they have mistaken
floating garbage as their source of food. In addition, these sea turtles have been found with ropes, soft plastic, and monofilament lines inside their
stomachs. The ingestion of these plastics has led to blockage inside their gut causing death. According to research more than half of the sea turtles are
ingesting plastic. Seabirds are also facing the consequences of plastic debris in the oceans. When seabirds use plastic as a source of nutrition, their
stomach reduces in volume and they eat less leading to their death. For instance, Albatrosses are a popular species of bird that suffer from the
consequences of plastic pollution. Observations from Captain Moore and his team found that the birds were eating plastic and specifically picking the
red, pink and brown colors. Moore stated that the reason they were picking these colors were because the birds thought the plastic pieces were shrimp.
Consequently, the ingestion of the plastics killed the albatrosses since the plastic blocked their intestinal track or stuck to their windpipes causing
suffocation.

Monitoring ground deformation in the vicinity of a volcano is another valuable tool for understanding what's going on underground. When magma
rises, it often causes the rock above it to deform or uplift in the form of a dome, and these domes indicate activity below the surface that could be a
warning sign of an eruption. One of the most dramatic occurrences of uplift occurred prior to the Mt. St. Helens eruption of 1980 when the volcano's

In this thesis, I discuss my research and fieldwork at Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park (KLGO) in southeast Alaska. The conducted research
examines fragile archaeological sites in unstable landscapes and articulates climatic and environmental conditions associated to cultural resources. My
research includes identifying unknown sites, protecting known sites in unstable landscapes, identifying environmental factors threatening to alter or
destroy archaeological resources, and examining human – environmental relationships. The effects of a changing global climate contribute to the rapid
melting of snow and ice patches, revealing significant archaeological resources previously preserved in a cryogenic– like stasis. Ice patch archaeology
Collaborating on an international level remains important for conducting ice patch research due to the rapid melting of alpine ice and decay of
valuable artifacts. The work conducted for this thesis included cooperation from Parks Canada. Ice patch research was conducted not only on the U.S.
side of the international border, but also on the Canadian side of Chilkoot Pass. Parks Canada allowed me and KLGO archaeologists to use the
Canadian warden cabin at the summit of Chilkoot Pass as a basecamp for the ice patch study (Figure 1.4). Working between two sovereign countries
emphasizes the matter of climate change as a global issue and the importance in maintaining international relations. Maintaining international relations
benefits the scientific community on a global scale and provides significant research opportunities. Since KLGO is a designated international park, the
enabling legislation of the designation allows continued cooperation, coordination, and training between the National Park Service and Parks Canada at
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, according to KLGO's general management plan. The legislation enacted for KLGO allows approval for
park archaeologists, in concurrence with park management, to conduct fieldwork and research on the Canadian side of the

Growing up as a Kwaj Spartan...what does this mean to me? Having to attend the Kwajalein Jr/Sr High School is a true blessing. As my time at
this school is approaching its end, I can't help but to look back on all the special opportunities this school has provided me. A few of these aspects
stand out to me. The teachers here at KHS have always been able to provide as much help as needed. Not only have the teachers been a part of my

Today, colleges and universities have assumed an important role far beyond their role in earlier times. Since the 20th century, economic and social
changes have transformed higher education into a primary gateway to the middle–class, providing minorities and women with opportunities to advance

Hepatitis B is an infection caused by hepatitis B virus. It affects the liver and can lead to acute or chronic hepatitis B, carrier, or liver cancer. It is
transmitted through body fluids such as blood and semen. Transmission is usually by sexual contact, sharing needles, injecting drugs, cutting injuries.
About 2 billion around the world have been infected with hepatitis B virus and 250 million have chronic infection. [1] 90% of infected adult will
recover within one year of infection and 5% of adults will develop chronic infection. 30–50% of chronically infected persons will develop
complications such as liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Children under 6 years of age have higher risk of developing chronic hepatitis B when the get infected. [2]
In order to serve the purpose of obtaining epidemiological data regarding the incidence, prevalence, mortality of hepatitis B infection, a research in
PubMed using any and/or a combination of the following words: A PubMed search using the following words: (Hepatitis B, disease, infection, vaccine,

My Career As A Part Time Student
I'm thirty one years old and ready to fulfill my goals of becoming a criminologist. I work full time and I'm a mother of two, furthermore, I will be
pursuing my career as a part–time student. My short–time goal is to receive an associate's degree of arts at the University of Alaska Southeast. I need
to focus on one degree at a time, which involves working towards my associate's degree to start with. With the feeling of ambition running through
my veins, I am aware that in order to become a criminologist, it takes time. My midterm goal is to transfer to the University of Fairbanks to complete a
bachelor's in sociology. I will attend to the University of Fairbanks classes online. I have chosen a degree in sociology for reasons of interest and the
variety of job types obtainable with a sociology degree seems greater. A master's degree in criminology will be a long–term goal. At this time, I don't
have a projection for where I will obtain my master's degree, however I anticipate that I will reach a course that will be lead in a positive direction.
At a rate of two classes per semester, I will be able to attain my bachelor's degree in eight years. I have not been to school in over ten years,
therefore, I feel two classes will be my minimum. I am hoping with time I'll be able to handle three, or complete summer classes to jump ahead. Once

Growing up as an African American child I was never affected by racial discrimination. I grew in up the suburbs of south Florida and had many
friends of all races. As a child, I was raised to judge people by who they are and what they do rather than on the color of their skin. However, when I
moved and began high school in a different state I started to notice that many of the students, professors, and even local officers were, for lack of a
better word, racist to not only African–Americans but also Hispanics and Middle Easterners. One example of this is the Trayvon Martin case where in
the end a man who was clearly guilty was acquitted because of the fact that the suspect who he killed, Trayvon, might have been a "17 year old
