Internet Marketing Plan
Checklist
Planning your internet marketing is a vital step yet so many people
I speak to don't seem to have much of a plan for their internet
marketing business. Or the plan is so fragile that it changes on a
daily basis as they buy yet another offer that promises the earth. If
you're at that stage, you need to grab yourself by the scruff of the
neck and create a plan for your internet marketing.
It doesn't have to be complicated - a single page will do - but it
does have to exist.

1. Include measurable targets
If you don't have a target, you won't know whether or not you've
met it.
It's a bit like setting off on a road trip with no map or sat nav and
just heading wherever the road takes you.
Which can be kind-of fun for a road trip but isn't much use for
running a successful business.
Targets should include where you want to get to - maybe a certain
amount of sales per week or maybe a certain number of new
subscribers to your newsletter - and also how you intend to get
there.

2. Break it down into steps
If your goal is a set amount of sales per week, it's not particularly
likely that you'll get there overnight.
So breaking it down into steps or stages helps keep you on track
and means that your target doesn't appear too far in the distance,
otherwise it will seem to be forever on the horizon.

3. Know your own skills and limits
No-one is good at everything, so it pays to know your own skillset
and limitations.
Jot them down - I find this easiest to do on a sheet of real paper
with skills on one side, limitations on the other.
Then decide whether any of your limitations are holding you back or
whether you can enlist the help of others to fill in the gaps.
For instance, I know I'm graphically challenged so I either avoid the
use of graphics completely or use royalty free images or get help
from someone on Fiverr or wherever.
You can do the same - it's far better to either avoid your limitations
completely (for instance, my sales letters are basically just written,
no graphics) or spend a few dollars buying in the skills you lack.

4. Learn to focus
There are too many distractions in life and in internet marketing.
It's very easy to get distracted.
Emails, Facebook, Tweets, etc are the enemy of focus.
It's easy to fool yourself into thinking you're being productive when
you're actually just doing the internet equivalent of spinning your
wheels.

5. Set aside time
This goes hand in hand with focusing more.
Set aside time that you will spend on your internet marketing.
Ideally a daily amount of time as that will help you to get into the
habit quicker.
But if you have certain days where there's already not enough time
then you may have to block those out from your internet marketing
completely. If that's the case, you need to ask yourself how serious
you are about your internet marketing compared with the other
things you're prioritising.
