Correlation Between Peanut Butter And Nut Consumption With...
Introduction The study's objective was to determine the correlation between peanut butter and nut consumption with CVD, including CHD and stroke
among women with type 2 diabetes. Another objective they had was to examine whether nuts positively influence the risk of CVD through markers
of inflammation or modulation of plasma lipids. The population was composed of 6,309 women with diabetes who were followed up until the year
2002. Methods This was a cohort study, in which the participants were followed from 1980 to 2002, or 54,656 person years of follow–up. Person years
is a measurement combining the number of persons and their time contribution in a study. It is the addition of individual units of time that the
participants in the study population have been exposed or at risk to the conditions of interest. The participants in this study were women with type 2
diabetes with ages ranging from 52.8 +/– 8.5 and 55.4 +/– 9.9. Other characteristics that were assessed were BMI, physical activity, alcohol
consumption, duration of diabetes, family history of myocardial infarction, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, hormone use among premenopausal
women, multivitamin use, vitamin E use, Aspirin use, energy intake, cereal fiber, polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, saturated fat, trans fat,
glycemic load, red meat, and fruit and vegetable consumption. To participate in this study the women had to have diabetes and also had to complete a
food frequency questionnaire every 2–4

Eating Trans Fat
Fat is a very vital nutrient we need in our bodies, one we cannot live without. With that being said there are good fats and bad fats. Trans fats being
one of the worst. This type of fat hides in all different kinds of foods we eat today from cookies, pizzas, to popcorn. "Eating trans–fat raises the level of
low–density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol in the blood. An elevated LDL blood cholesterol level can increase your risk of developing
cardiovascular disease." So fortunately for us the FDA has finally took action that will significantly reduce the use Trans fats in the food supply. In an
article written on June 16, 2015 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, states that through the examination of scientific evidence they have ... Show

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men, and women in the United States. Not saying this would completely change that, but it could
mean a huge difference. Decreasing these fats would prevent thousands of heart attacks and deaths each year. This could also help economically by
savings on medical care, but like I said, time will tell on that one. In my opinion I am glad this is finally happening. Even with the three year period, I
think more people are becoming aware of these "bad fats." However, in the article, the FDA also says "It's important to note that trans–fat will not be
completely gone from foods because it occurs naturally in small amounts in meat and dairy products" they also say "even foods labeled with "0" grams
trans–fat may contain small amounts (less than one–half a gram per serving) of PHOs." So always ready labels, these "small" amounts add up over
time. In conclusion, this is a major step for public health. The American Heart Association called the new regulations a "historic victory for the
nation's health." While I believe that the state and local governments have done a good job trying better educate and increase the awareness of certain
fats or foods. Many people have no clue what they are eating, and really just don't care. I guess you can't help everyone, but this is a great

Fast Food Lab
The purpose of this lab is to compare and contrast each fast food choice and view the results as to which will contain the most and the least fat. I think
the Carl's burger will have the thickest layer of fat because it has the most saturated fat in comparison to all the others. And I think the McDonald's
Chicken Sandwich will have the thinnest layer of fat because the amount of saturated fat is the lowest compared to the others.
Introduction:
Our society feeds off fat, both literally and figuratively. Magazines are telling us the top five ways to quickly burn off that fat and food companies are
assuring us that their product is "fat free". But what exactly is fat, in this lab we explore the categories of fat and their influences in our lives. Firstly,
we must compare and contrast the different types of known fats.
There are four main types of fats found in the foods we eat, they are Saturated Fat, Polyunsaturated fat, Monounsaturated ... Show more content on

And as another way to make the meal a little healthier, instead of those French fries try asking for a side salad or maybe a thing of fruit, and maybe
even hold the dressing on the side of any type of salad you order. Also as a way to save money and yournutrition, do not order one of the drinks off the
menu, just order a cup or glass of water, this is always free and always much healthier than any drinks the restaurant provides. Now out of everything
discussed, most importantly is to know the type of food choices you are making, just because a food product is labeled "healthy" does not necessarily
mean it is the absolute best for you. You need to take the initiative, because no matter what anyone else tells you, you need to be the one to find the
facts and draw these conclusions for

The Effect Of Trans Fats On Heart Disease And Plaque Buildup
Soy has been hydrogenated, which reduces the amount of polyunsaturated fats and adds trans fats to your body. Trans fats are linked to heart disease
and plaque buildup in arteries. Soy is linked to cancer by interfering with enzymes your body uses to fight cancer, chronic health problems such as
obesity, asthma, autoimmune disease, cancer, and bone degeneration. It's linked to diabetes by interfering with the insulin receptors in your cell
membranes. It's also connected to heart disease by clogging your arteries. Among women with underlying coronary heart disease, eating trans fats
increased the danger of sudden cardiac arrest. It can lead to decreased immune function. by reducing your immune response. Additionally, it can

"The politics of food", Maria Margaronis, The Nation, 27 December 1999 Soy lecithin is produced from soybean oil, which is commonly created
through a chemical process using hexane. If a product is licensed non–GMO, you can accept that the soybeans used are not been genetically modified.
In the remote past, Asian cultures only ate soy that was fermented. The mainstream would have you believe that ancient Asian cultures have been
eating tons of soy for thousands of years. According to Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, ancient Chinese cultures first started eating soybeans about 2,500 years
ago. Not long after that, they figured out how to ferment it. But the question is, why did they ferment it? The Chinese somehow knew that soybeans
contain many toxins. They then avoided soy until they were able to nullify these toxins, this is achieved by the fermentation process.
In Asia, soy is only used in very small amounts as a condiment, with pork, and seafood, only in recent years have soy products been used like today,
consumed in large amounts in an unfermented and often highly processed form. Soy was originally considered an inedible plant, used to fix nitrogen
in the soil. Even to this day, there are many farming communities that use soy for the purpose of controlling the nitrogen within the soil. Soy was used
in tofu in early Asian cultures to promote sexual abstinence. This was due to the phytoestrogens in soy that can lower testosterone levels. The

Reese's Sorrows Compare And Contrast
Reese's Puffs and Frosted Flakes are common cereal that many often eat for breakfast and are eaten as snacks, but are they healthy cereals. These
cereals are top of the line for sales and are shown multiple times on televisions for their common commercials. To figure this out some research was
conducted to see how much sugar, calorie, fiber, and sodium each of them have per serving cup.
Data
Reese's Puffs are made with whole grain, no artificial flavors, and no colors from artificial sources. They provide twelve vitamins and minerals per
29g serving. It's a puffed, sweet, and crunchy corn cereal ("Reese's Puffs Bulkpak Cereal) A 0.75 cup of Reese's Puffs contains 120 calories, 1.8g of
fiber, 161 mg of sodium, and 10g of sugar. This product was ranked number six on the list of cereals to avoid. A 0.75 cup of Frosted Flakes contains

They go by the energy consumption through eating & drinking and energy usage through physical activity. You should take on the right amount for it
to become healthy. Also, all the calories you eat should meet up with the physical activity you do on a daily. The number of calories you should have
all depends on your age, size, and activity levels.
Fiber is a unique kind of carb. It consumes space so it makes you feel full after a meal. The more fiber in a food the less you should eat. Fruits and
vegetables are often high in fiber. Those on low carb diets have more fiber–high foods so they could burn more fats off. So, the more fiber in a food the
better it is for you.
Sodium is another way to say salt. It's not the common table salt, that type of salt contains sodium and chloride. Its recommended that most adults eat
less than 2.3 grams per day. Sodium is good for those who have the condition Hyponatremia, which they have low sodium in their blood. Besides that,
the less sodium in your foods the better they are for you cause too much of it could cause other problems

The Pros And Cons Of Trans Fats
According to the Mayo Clinic article Trans Fat is unhealthy for the heart and cholesterol. It affects the arteries and cholesterol levels. Excessive
consumption of trans fats can lead to heart disease and increase level of the "bad" cholesterol and low levels of the "good cholesterol.
Most of the trans fat is found in processed and packaged food and is evident that this is a major cause of heart disease. In early years, most people
were not aware of the consequences of trans fats; today there is more awareness and the FDA has now required food manufactures to display trans fat in
processed, package foods. The FDA continues to work on the elimination of trans fat to completely banning it from being used in processed, package
foods. (Forbes,

Pros And Cons Of Trans Fat
After reading the four articles on the banning of trans fat, there were several ideas that came to mind. For example, I thought that it would be a
healthy idea to get rid of these artificial oils. The FDA considers these artificial oils as dangerous and unsafe for the consumer. The hydrogenated oils
can cause serious health problems, and eliminating the artificial trans fat in products will benefit numerous people. Although trans fat will not be
completely eliminated, due to the natural trans fat in products such as meat, cutting the artificial oils will help people live healthier lives. These types
of oils can increase the chance of getting coronary heart diseases, which will lead up to buildup in plaque inside the arteries and can cause a heart
attack. When less trans fat is consumed, people are less immune to these health issues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, several businesses could go through an economical crisis trying to find an alternative for these oils. Additionally, it seems as if the
government is now trying to control what we eat. According to David Harsanyi, he believes that the average American consumes a safe amount, and
trans fat is a benign ingredient. Furthermore, there would be no more Pillsbury's Ready To Bake cookies, which is a serious crisis to my well–being.
Another thing I thought was, "What if companies began to produce an even more unhealthy product because they could not find an alternative to the
trans fat?" This would put us in an even worse state than now, and would cause more health problems. Although there are several cons to the
banning of trans fat, I believe that trying to get rid of these oils as much as possible is a wise thing, even though I would have to sacrifice my

Over the past few years a lot of information has been given as to what different foods do to our bodies. Calories, sodium, and all kinds of different
ingredients found in foods. There's many things that are not good for your health like; consuming too much sugar, eating too much trans fat, and eating
too little trans fat. Studies have shown that eating too much sugar has a negative effect on our bodies. Sugar from regular sodas, cakes, cookies, and
candy have been proven as risk factors for heart disease. In 2010 adults in the United States consumed about 300 calories a day, based on a 2,000
calorie diet from added sugars. The American Heart Association recommends that women don't consume more than 100 calories a day from added
sugars; and men don't consume more than 150 calories a day. Other research has also tied a high intake of added sugars to many poor health
conditions like; obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, risk factors for heart disease, and stroke (Hellmich). All of the research has proven that

Over the past hundred years, the production of food has drastically evolved; the quality of food has declined due notion of quantity over quality.
Furthermore, the declining quality of food is in correlation with the declining health of the consumer's. Producers are more concerned with mass
producing their product at an economical rate, even if it means sacrificing the quality of the food, which ultimately wind up inside the body of the
consumer. The only solution to the issue at hand is if the government manages how food is produced in the United States. Adversaries to the notion that

First of all, the farm animals, cows, chicken, goats, and pigs are raised inhumanely. In consonance to The Food, Inc documentary, the animals are
fed corn, even though farm animals are built to eat grass. Eating the wrong food can make the animals sick because a new strand of E.Coli
(bacteria) can form in the animal. The animals are also crowded in small areas and their feces is not cleaned; therefore, feces can reach up to the
animals' knees making it possible for bacteria to be spread. The defective meat can easily transfer the bacteria to a person's body, resulting in that
person having the strains of bacteria and getting sick. The Center for Disease Control (CDC), "E. coli, the pathogen most commonly associated with

Trans-Fatty Acids
Avoiding foods that create inflammation in the body may reduce your risk of type II diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, Alzheimer's,
cancer, obesity and a host of other ailments. Here's a look at what you don't want to eat.
Flour
It doesn't matter whether it is whole grain flour or not. The starch in flour is quickly converted into glucose or blood sugar. Researchers have compared
the effects of whole grain wheat bread to white bread and found that they have the same effect on blood sugar levels.
Basically, anything that contains flour is digested too quickly, which causes a spike in blood sugar and insulin levels. Any simplecarbohydrate will
cause the problem. Spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels contribute to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They include oatmeal and brown rice. The more natural the food looks, the better. It is heavily processed food that contributes to disease.
Trans–fatty Acids
Research has shown that the consumption of trans–fatty acids causes an increase in blood levels of inflammatory markers, which means they are foods
that create inflammation in the arteries and blood vessels. This is a cause of age–related heart diseases like atherosclerosis. There is also a link
between consumption of trans–fatty acids and various kinds of cancer.
In order to avoid food containing trans–fatty acids, read the label of ingredients and look for the words "partially hydrogenated". Food manufacturers
are able to include the label "0 grams of trans fat", when the product contains less than 1 gram per serving. So, to avoid trans–fats entirely, you need to
read the ingredients.
Too Many Omega–6 Fatty Acids
You must consume some omega–6 fatty acids, because they serve many functions in the body. The key is to try to balance your intake of omega 6s
and 3s as much as possible. You can safely say that fatty beef, chicken and pork are foods that create inflammation, while fatty fish is an
anti–inflammatory

Cholesterol And Fats : The Whole Truth
Cholesterol and Fats: The Whole Truth Are all fats bad? That is what many people think. When trying to lose weight, or become healthier, dieters
think they need to eliminate all fat from their diets. This is not correct, there are good fats and bad fats, and the body needs the good ones to function
properly. Then, there ischolesterol, it is hard to keep which type is good and which type is bad straight. Actually, they are both good, if they are
maintained at the correct, healthy levels. A person has to eat the good fats and stay away from the bad ones in order to help their body maintain
healthy cholesterol levels.

These include essential fatty acids (EFAs), linolenic and linoleic acid, which the body needs and cannot make on its own and has to get from the foods
a person eats (Physicians Committee, n.d.). Omega–3 and Omega–6 fatty acids, have many benefits. Some of the benefits are lowering the risk of heart
disease and high blood pressure, helping with joint pain, lower depression levels, better visual and neurological development in infants, the possibility
of improving lung function and improved mental skills, and they help to protect against Alzheimer's and Dementia (WebMD, 2014). Research is still
being done to determine all of the possible benefits of the EFAs.
Cholesterol, a lipid that lives in cell membranes and synthesizes hormones and bile salts, is made in the liver, the body makes all of the cholesterol
that it needs, but it can also be found in animal proteins. There are two different types of cholesterol; the good cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein
(HDL) cholesterol, and the bad cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (American Heart Association, 2014). LDL and HDL are
lipoproteins that carry the cholesterol where it needs to go in the body. When a person has a higher than normal amount of LDL cholesterol he or she
has a higher risk of plaque growth and atherosclerosis. HDL cholesterol helps to remove LDL cholesterol, helping to bring it back down to a normal
level, in turn helping

This is a definite win for the health of Americans, because trans fats have been proven to raise bad cholesterol, known as LDL, and lower good
cholesterol, known as HDL. These are the factors that contribute to the risk of developing heart disease, as well as Type 2 diabetes.

CHECK FOOD LABELS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
The people who take their health and diet into consideration tend to check the food labels and go with products that say "0 grams of trans fat per
serving". However this doesn't mean that there's zero grams of trans fat in the product. Manufacturing companies that produce food containing less
than .5 grams of trans fat can and do round that number down to zero to advertise that it has "zero" grams of trans fat.
ABOUT TWO GRAMS OF TRANS FATS PER DAY IS FINE
If you would like to avoid trans fats altogether, then the American Heart Association suggest that if your diet is based on the 2,000 daily model, that
you should have less than two grams of trans fats per day. To make sure that you are aware of the amount of trans fats that you are eating, you can
read the food labels to tell you.
Certain terms can also be used instead of trans fats:

Essay about McDonald's Unhealthy Food Spreading...
This paper will address the American restaurant McDonald's. Many aspects will be examined, including its history, trip overseas, and menu
variations. McDonald's reception in Japan, China, the United Kingdom, and France will be addressed as well. Feeding the world with speedy and
reliable food comes with great nutritional consequences, as will be elaborated herein. Fishwick (1995) talks about the history of McDonald's. The
McDonald brothers opened a small drive–in in 1937 and a larger one in 1948. Upon Ray Kroc's visit to McDonald's to sell milkshake mixers, he
bought the store. McDonald's wanted to have clean, welcoming restaurants. McDonald's became more popular in the 50s and 60s. Couples moved to

In Athens, one can see marble columns on his or her way in to buy fries (Fishwick, 1995). In Bucharest, a former train station now sells happy meals
instead of tickets (Fishwick, 1995). People are often uneasy with the unknown. If a McDonald's from Alabama dropped into Indonesia, the residents
would probably be weary. Adopting local design styles makes the store seems a little less foreign. Architecture is not the only thing for which they
make concessions. After McDonald's has established itself in an area, the menu sometimes alters. With Ronald, many eat "Spicy Wings
(red–pepper–laced chicken) in Beijing, kosher Big Macs (minus the cheese) in Jerusalem, vegetable McNuggets in New Delhi, or a McHuevo (a
burger with fried egg) in Montevideo" (Watson, 2000:122). In the Netherlands traditional favorites of applesauce and fried chicken cakes are offered
(Fishwick, 1995). In Holland the menu tweaking was as simple as replacing ketchup with mayonnaise (DeBres, 2005). Many European countries
have more beverage options than milkshakes or Coke. In France wine is offered; in Germany the option is beer, and the English can order tea
(DeBres, 2005). This flexibility contributes to customers' comfort while visiting a foreign restaurant, which in turn can lead to customer loyalty and
respect. There are many fast food places in Japan. McDonald's competes with those offering traditional foods like sushi and soba (Traphagan and
Brown, 2002).

Trans Fat
There are two types of trans fats found in food: natural and artificial. Natural trans fat are produced in the guts of some animal or found in food

food through the partial hydrogenation of vegetable oil resulting in a semi–solid or solid fat found in margarine and shortening. (American Heart

better texture and gives food desirable taste (U.S. Food& Drug Administration, 2015). This hardened oil are used in making pies, cakes, ready to use

Fats give you energy and help you feel fueled after eating. Fat is very important to your daily functions such as walking or running and is required to
live a healthy life. There are 4 main types of fat, they are saturated fat, trans fat, polyunsaturated fat, and monounsaturated fat. The worst type of fat
humans consume on a daily basis is trans fat. Trans fat is a bio product of a process called hydrogenation. Hydrogenation is used to turn healthy oils
into solids to prevent them from becoming rancid.
Trans fat are the worst type of fat for any human to consume. The way you can tell the difference between trans fat and good fat(polyunsaturated,
monounsaturated) is trans fat are solid at room temperature. For example if you leave bacon grease out overnight in a bowl it will be solid the
next morning. Good fats are liquid at room temperature, such as vegetable oil. For every gram of trans fat you consume there is 9 calories in it. A
daily intake of trans fat should be about 2 grams on a 2000 calorie based diet. That means you should only be getting about 18 calories from trans fat.

Trans–fat, monounsaturated fat, saturated fat, what does this all mean? There are so many different names for fats being thrown around, that it is hard

Trans–fat can also be called trans–fatty acid or partially hydrogenated fat.
Britannica Encyclopedia states that hydrogenated products first began in the 1890s by a French chemist names Paul Sabatier. Later in 1901, there was
a German chemist named Wilhelm Normann who successfully produced the hydrogenation of liquid fat and produced semisolid fat, which is what is
known today as trans–fat. He received a patent in 1903. Once food manufacturers got their hands on this product, they liked it and ran with it because
it allowed their products to have a longer shelf life. Trans–fat was also used to make margarine, which people used instead of butter since they saw it as

1. What are the five developmental tasks of young adulthood, and how can the accomplishing of one influence the accomplishing of any of the
remaining four?
Levinson named five developmental tasks for young adults. These are pursuing a dream, creating relationships, developing an occupational career,
forming a marriage and family and building responsibility in the larger community (Burns, 2005). These developmental tasks are interdependent on
each other and achieving one affects the possibilities of accomplishing the other four. The development of a career will help in achieving other tasks as

Fat is also needed in the body as it helps in the absorption of some vitamins such as Vitamin A, D, E, and K and also in the absorption of carotenoids.
The current concerns about saturated fats originated from a believe that all fat is bad as fat contains more calories than other food types, fat is readily
metabolized and therefore requires no energy before its being stored and a believe that fat clogs the arteries. This in turn had resulted from wrong
perceptions that saturated meat from red meat was the main cause for Ischaemic Heart Disease (IHD), a number one killer heart disease. The oil
producers responded to this by introducing hydrogenated vegetable oils which people wrongly believed that they were healthy fats. As more people
consumed these vegetable oils, the rate of IHD continued to increase. Further research by Dr. Mary Enig has confirmed that the diseases related to
saturated fat are more as a result of increased consumption of vegetable oils and not saturated oils from red meat (Natural health information center,
2005).

Artificial Trans Fat Ban in New York City Essay
Section 81.08 of the New York City Health Code "eliminates the use of artificial trans fat in foods stored, distributed, held for service, used in
preparation of any menu item, or served in any food service establishment (1)."
Multiple stakeholders are affected by this policy. These include New York City patrons, restaurants, the New York Health Department, and public
health officials. The Department of Health received 2,200 comments in favor of this policy and 70 comments in opposition. The New York Health

A website containing updated information about the policy should be created. This is an inexpensive way to keep stakeholders updated with current
information regarding the trans–fat ban. This should create process for two–way communication with stakeholders.
Part 2. Description of Public Health Policy
The leading cause of death in New York City is heart disease. Studies suggest that there is a positive correlation between consumption of trans fat and
coronary heart disease. Studies also suggest that replacing trans fats with healthier fats could reduce the number of people affected by heart disease.
This explains why New York City has adopted a policy banning trans–fat in restaurants (3). Restaurants are an important source of daily food intake for
New York City residents. An estimated one third of daily consumption comes from foods purchased from restaurants. Assuring healthy dining options
is a public health concern. The public health concern this health policy aims to address is the presence of trans fat in foods served in restaurants. The
presence of trans fat in foods creates a dangerous and yet preventable health risk to restaurant goers (2).
The Department of Health is responsible for preventing and monitoring diseases, including chronic disease. This can be done by addressing individual
or community behaviors. By restricting restaurants from serving foods that contain artificial trans–fat, the

Trans Fats And Its Effects On Human Health
Partially hydrogenated oils: These types of oils have the purpose of giving a longer shelf life to food and giving more stability to oils that are
usually liquid at room temperature. By partially hydrogenating certain oils, food industries can make liquid oils solid and sustain a food's flavor
and the length it can remain on shelves. This types of oil, PHOs, make up most of the artificial trans fats in many foods. PHOs are created by
chemically altering the chemical bonds of the oils by adding hydrogen molecules to create a solid oil. This type of oil has a negative impact on
human health and the FDA recently decided that PHOs were regarded as not "generally recognized as safe" for human consumption. Since PHOs
are the main source of trans fats in American's diets, they have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease that could lead to heart attacks and
death. Hydrogenated oils: Like partially hydrogenated oils, hydrogenated oils are used to create solids out of naturally liquid oils to lengthen the life
of products. Adding these oils to food also acts as a preservative for foods and improve texture and taste. Hydrogenated oils are created by heating
them at high temperatures for several hours, then adding a metal catalyst that creates the denser, thicker substance used in foods. The molecule of the fat
is straightened by adding bonds. These oils are also shown to contribute to higher blood pressure levels and higher cholesterol levels in humans. Since

My passion for nutrition is greatly entangled with chemistry. All food is made up of molecules. The chemical structure is important, and the way a
molecule interacts with other molecules sheds light on how and why our bodies function the way they do, especially in regards to nutrition. Trans fats
are a good example of the necessary understanding of chemical structure, without this knowledge the effects of trans fats on the body would not be
understood. Trans fats have no nutritional value and are harmful to the body even in small quantities. There are three things that are imperative to
understand when looking at trans fats from a nutritional stand point: what are trans fats, why are trans fats so bad for you, and how to avoid trans fats....

The body needs fat to function, they serve many different purposes. Fifty percent of the cell wall is made up of saturated fat.(Stevenson) Trans fats
are bad for several reasons. First of all, a saturated fat molecule compared to a unsaturated fat molecule that is a trans fat, have the same chemical
makeup, and this is a major problem with the way the body uses trans fats. Because they are so similar, trans fats can take the place of saturated fats
in the cell wall. Cell walls are porous, they take in nutrients and expel waste or toxins. When trans fats take the place of saturated fats in the cell wall,
because of the placement of the double bonds on the polar ends, this makes the molecule not want to cooperate with other molecules. This leads to gaps
in the cell wall which allow toxins to penetrate into the cell. Another problem that happens when trans fat molecules replace saturated fat molecules is
typical cell communication is disrupted, this can cause nutrients to not be taken into the cell and toxins to be trapped inside the cell, and can lead to an
unbalanced metabolism. Abnormal cell communication also effects hormone signals and reflexes, which can instigate the body to overproduce
adrenaline, and in turn lead to adrenal fatigue and even a non–functioning thyroid. (Benson) Trans fats have a very negative effect on the cardiovascular
system as well. This type of fat increases the production of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides which clog and cause the narrowing of the arteries, and
they lower HDL cholesterol, the good cholesterol. Also, in addition to all the adverse effects trans fat have on the body, they are difficult to digest and
in turn they cause inflammation. Inflammation can wreak havoc on the body and cause multiple diseases. ("Dietician to

Unsaturated Oil Good Or Bad
Have you ever heard the trans fatty acid? Do you know the trans fatty acid usually used in what kinds of products are? In 1902, a German scientist
synthesized a new unsaturated oil called hydrogenated oil or trans fatty acid, whose material is vegetable oil. Then in 1912, he got the Nobel Prize, and
people thought the new oil was useful and healthy. After fifty years, American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) encourages food companies use
trans fatty acid replaced the saturated oil because the scientists thought it was healthier than saturated oil (Davis C., 2012). However, after one

Fatty acids or fats are hydrogen atoms that are consist of "chains of hydrogen–bearing carbon atoms" (Tymoczko, Berg, & Stryer, 2013, p. 180). These
hydrocarbon chains present different properties such as length of the chain and one or double bonds in which defines the types of fat. Chain lengths
and degree of saturation significantly influence the property of the fatty acids. Saturated fats like butter and shortening contain linear hydrocarbon
chain, which is composed of single bond. Single bond, saturated fat has higher melting point where as unsaturated fat has lower melting points.
Unsaturated fats such as olive oil present double bond that produces the stronger construction between bonds. Furthermore, "short chain length and cis
unsaturation enhance the fluidity of fatty acids and of their derivatives" (Tymoczko, Berg, & Stryer, 2013, p.182).... Show more content on

Why Companies Use Artificial Trans Fat
Most people consume 25–35 percent of their total daily calorie count from fat; however, only 10 percent should come from saturated fats. There are
two different types of trans fat, artificial and naturally occurring. In order to make artificial trans fat, an industrial process adds hydrogen to liquid
vegetable oil, to make it more solid. This type of trans fat raises the LDL (bad) cholesterol level and lowers the HDL (good) cholesterol levels. This
increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, which are the leading killers of both men and women, and is associated with a higher risk of developing
type II diabetes. Artificial trans fat doesn't help the body in any way; however, the one counterexample is naturally occurring trans fat. Naturally ...

The reason companies use artificial trans fat instead of naturally occurring trans fat is because of a few reasons. One reason is because naturally
occurring trans fat is produced in the gut of some animals and food made from these animals, making it hard to get. Artificial trans fat is easy to
obtain and is inexpensive. Another reason companies use artificial trans fat is because it gives food a more desirable taste and texture, making the food
more addicting. Most fast food restaurants use this trans fat to deep–fry their food. By doing this, the oil can be used many times in commercial fryers,
instead of having to constantly change the oil. Some of the foods that contain artificial trans fat are baked goods, snacks, fried food, any type of
refrigerated dough, creamer and margarine. When looking at the nutrition facts panel of these foods, "0 grams trans fat" could mean that the product
contains anywhere between 0 grams and 0.5 grams trans fat. Even if the package says "0 grams trans fat," by looking at the ingredients list a person

Trans Fats
Trans fats are produced as a result of partial hydrogenation of the unsaturated fats18. Partially hydrogenated oils have been used in the food products
for their higher oxidative stability and the harder texture they provide to the food product18. Several metabolic studies concluded that trans fats
increased the low density lipoprotein content and decreased the high density lipoprotien content of the blood19 20. Other health effects of TFA
include raising the fasting triacylglycerides (TAG) levels20 and increased Lp(a) levels20 and plasma concentrations of lipoproteins 19 which are
associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease. Trans fat consumption has been also linked to the occurrence of coronary artery disease19.

properties of the fats including the microstructure 28, solid fat content29, rheology30 and the hardness of the fats. These properties determine the
spreadability, flavor release, hardness of fats in the final application. Schmidt et. al31 studied and compared the physical properties of the blends of

nutrients when cooking with high heat, but there lies a third controversial factor that could be dangerous to health in big ways.
Smoke Points
This danger lies in the smoke points of oils. When you are frying or sauteing your food, fat molecules in the oil are beginning to break down, converting
glycerol molecules into acrolein. This substance is known to bring about unwanted health risks when consumed. According to the EPA, there is not

that prevent the fats from breaking down at lower temperatures, so it is resilient up to 383 degrees fahrenheit. Remember, even at lower temperatures,
these great antioxidants and nutrients can be lost, so I would recommend using EVOO in sauces or dressings at low temperatures, to retain the

  • 1. Correlation Between Peanut Butter And Nut Consumption With... Introduction The study's objective was to determine the correlation between peanut butter and nut consumption with CVD, including CHD and stroke among women with type 2 diabetes. Another objective they had was to examine whether nuts positively influence the risk of CVD through markers of inflammation or modulation of plasma lipids. The population was composed of 6,309 women with diabetes who were followed up until the year 2002. Methods This was a cohort study, in which the participants were followed from 1980 to 2002, or 54,656 person years of follow–up. Person years is a measurement combining the number of persons and their time contribution in a study. It is the addition of individual units of time that the participants in the study population have been exposed or at risk to the conditions of interest. The participants in this study were women with type 2 diabetes with ages ranging from 52.8 +/– 8.5 and 55.4 +/– 9.9. Other characteristics that were assessed were BMI, physical activity, alcohol consumption, duration of diabetes, family history of myocardial infarction, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, hormone use among premenopausal women, multivitamin use, vitamin E use, Aspirin use, energy intake, cereal fiber, polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, saturated fat, trans fat, glycemic load, red meat, and fruit and vegetable consumption. To participate in this study the women had to have diabetes and also had to complete a food frequency questionnaire every 2–4 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Eating Trans Fat Fat is a very vital nutrient we need in our bodies, one we cannot live without. With that being said there are good fats and bad fats. Trans fats being one of the worst. This type of fat hides in all different kinds of foods we eat today from cookies, pizzas, to popcorn. "Eating trans–fat raises the level of low–density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol in the blood. An elevated LDL blood cholesterol level can increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease." So fortunately for us the FDA has finally took action that will significantly reduce the use Trans fats in the food supply. In an article written on June 16, 2015 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, states that through the examination of scientific evidence they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men, and women in the United States. Not saying this would completely change that, but it could mean a huge difference. Decreasing these fats would prevent thousands of heart attacks and deaths each year. This could also help economically by savings on medical care, but like I said, time will tell on that one. In my opinion I am glad this is finally happening. Even with the three year period, I think more people are becoming aware of these "bad fats." However, in the article, the FDA also says "It's important to note that trans–fat will not be completely gone from foods because it occurs naturally in small amounts in meat and dairy products" they also say "even foods labeled with "0" grams trans–fat may contain small amounts (less than one–half a gram per serving) of PHOs." So always ready labels, these "small" amounts add up over time. In conclusion, this is a major step for public health. The American Heart Association called the new regulations a "historic victory for the nation's health." While I believe that the state and local governments have done a good job trying better educate and increase the awareness of certain fats or foods. Many people have no clue what they are eating, and really just don't care. I guess you can't help everyone, but this is a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fast Food Lab The purpose of this lab is to compare and contrast each fast food choice and view the results as to which will contain the most and the least fat. I think the Carl's burger will have the thickest layer of fat because it has the most saturated fat in comparison to all the others. And I think the McDonald's Chicken Sandwich will have the thinnest layer of fat because the amount of saturated fat is the lowest compared to the others. Introduction: Our society feeds off fat, both literally and figuratively. Magazines are telling us the top five ways to quickly burn off that fat and food companies are assuring us that their product is "fat free". But what exactly is fat, in this lab we explore the categories of fat and their influences in our lives. Firstly, we must compare and contrast the different types of known fats. There are four main types of fats found in the foods we eat, they are Saturated Fat, Polyunsaturated fat, Monounsaturated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And as another way to make the meal a little healthier, instead of those French fries try asking for a side salad or maybe a thing of fruit, and maybe even hold the dressing on the side of any type of salad you order. Also as a way to save money and yournutrition, do not order one of the drinks off the menu, just order a cup or glass of water, this is always free and always much healthier than any drinks the restaurant provides. Now out of everything discussed, most importantly is to know the type of food choices you are making, just because a food product is labeled "healthy" does not necessarily mean it is the absolute best for you. You need to take the initiative, because no matter what anyone else tells you, you need to be the one to find the facts and draw these conclusions for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effect Of Trans Fats On Heart Disease And Plaque Buildup Soy has been hydrogenated, which reduces the amount of polyunsaturated fats and adds trans fats to your body. Trans fats are linked to heart disease and plaque buildup in arteries. Soy is linked to cancer by interfering with enzymes your body uses to fight cancer, chronic health problems such as obesity, asthma, autoimmune disease, cancer, and bone degeneration. It's linked to diabetes by interfering with the insulin receptors in your cell membranes. It's also connected to heart disease by clogging your arteries. "The politics of food", Maria Margaronis, The Nation, 27 December 1999 Soy lecithin is produced from soybean oil, which is commonly created through a chemical process using hexane. If a product is licensed non–GMO, you can accept that the soybeans used are not been genetically modified. In the remote past, Asian cultures only ate soy that was fermented. The mainstream would have you believe that ancient Asian cultures have been eating tons of soy for thousands of years. According to Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, ancient Chinese cultures first started eating soybeans about 2,500 years ago. Not long after that, they figured out how to ferment it. But the question is, why did they ferment it? The Chinese somehow knew that soybeans contain many toxins. They then avoided soy until they were able to nullify these toxins, this is achieved by the fermentation process. In Asia, soy is only used in very small amounts as a condiment, with pork, and seafood, only in recent years have soy products been used like today, consumed in large amounts in an unfermented and often highly processed form. Soy was originally considered an inedible plant, used to fix nitrogen in the soil. Even to this day, there are many farming communities that use soy for the purpose of controlling the nitrogen within the soil. Soy was used in tofu in early Asian cultures to promote sexual abstinence. This was due to the phytoestrogens in soy that can lower testosterone levels. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These cereals are top of the line for sales and are shown multiple times on televisions for their common commercials. To figure this out some research was conducted to see how much sugar, calorie, fiber, and sodium each of them have per serving cup. Fiber is a unique kind of carb. It consumes space so it makes you feel full after a meal. The more fiber in a food the less you should eat. Fruits and vegetables are often high in fiber. Those on low carb diets have more fiber–high foods so they could burn more fats off. So, the more fiber in a food the better it is for you. Sodium is another way to say salt. It's not the common table salt, that type of salt contains sodium and chloride. Its recommended that most adults eat less than 2.3 grams per day. Excessive consumption of trans fats can lead to heart disease and increase level of the "bad" cholesterol and low levels of the "good cholesterol. Most of the trans fat is found in processed and packaged food and is evident that this is a major cause of heart disease. In early years, most people were not aware of the consequences of trans fats; today there is more awareness and the FDA has now required food manufactures to display trans fat in processed, package foods. • 7. Pros And Cons Of Trans Fat After reading the four articles on the banning of trans fat, there were several ideas that came to mind. For example, I thought that it would be a healthy idea to get rid of these artificial oils. The FDA considers these artificial oils as dangerous and unsafe for the consumer. The hydrogenated oils can cause serious health problems, and eliminating the artificial trans fat in products will benefit numerous people. Although trans fat will not be completely eliminated, due to the natural trans fat in products such as meat, cutting the artificial oils will help people live healthier lives. These types of oils can increase the chance of getting coronary heart diseases, which will lead up to buildup in plaque inside the arteries and can cause a heart attack. For example, several businesses could go through an economical crisis trying to find an alternative for these oils. Additionally, it seems as if the government is now trying to control what we eat. According to David Harsanyi, he believes that the average American consumes a safe amount, and trans fat is a benign ingredient. Furthermore, there would be no more Pillsbury's Ready To Bake cookies, which is a serious crisis to my well–being. Another thing I thought was, "What if companies began to produce an even more unhealthy product because they could not find an alternative to the trans fat?" This would put us in an even worse state than now, and would cause more health problems. Although there are several cons to the banning of trans fat, I believe that trying to get rid of these oils as much as possible is a wise thing, even though I would have to sacrifice my Pillsbury's Ready To Bake cookies. • 8. Trans Fat Research Paper Over the past few years a lot of information has been given as to what different foods do to our bodies. Calories, sodium, and all kinds of different ingredients found in foods. There's many things that are not good for your health like; consuming too much sugar, eating too much trans fat, and eating too little trans fat. Studies have shown that eating too much sugar has a negative effect on our bodies. Sugar from regular sodas, cakes, cookies, and candy have been proven as risk factors for heart disease. In 2010 adults in the United States consumed about 300 calories a day, based on a 2,000 calorie diet from added sugars. The American Heart Association recommends that women don't consume more than 100 calories a day from added sugars; and men don't consume more than 150 calories a day. Producers are more concerned with mass producing their product at an economical rate, even if it means sacrificing the quality of the food, which ultimately wind up inside the body of the consumer. When trying to lose weight, or become healthier, dieters think they need to eliminate all fat from their diets. This is not correct, there are good fats and bad fats, and the body needs the good ones to function properly. Then, there ischolesterol, it is hard to keep which type is good and which type is bad straight. Actually, they are both good, if they are maintained at the correct, healthy levels. These include essential fatty acids (EFAs), linolenic and linoleic acid, which the body needs and cannot make on its own and has to get from the foods a person eats (Physicians Committee, n.d.). Some of the benefits are lowering the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure, helping with joint pain, lower depression levels, better visual and neurological development in infants, the possibility of improving lung function and improved mental skills, and they help to protect against Alzheimer's and Dementia (WebMD, 2014). Research is still being done to determine all of the possible benefits of the EFAs. Cholesterol, a lipid that lives in cell membranes and synthesizes hormones and bile salts, is made in the liver, the body makes all of the cholesterol that it needs, but it can also be found in animal proteins. There are two different types of cholesterol; the good cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and the bad cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (American Heart Association, 2014). LDL and HDL are lipoproteins that carry the cholesterol where it needs to go in the body. Many aspects will be examined, including its history, trip overseas, and menu variations. McDonald's reception in Japan, China, the United Kingdom, and France will be addressed as well. Feeding the world with speedy and reliable food comes with great nutritional consequences, as will be elaborated herein. Fishwick (1995) talks about the history of McDonald's. The McDonald brothers opened a small drive–in in 1937 and a larger one in 1948. Upon Ray Kroc's visit to McDonald's to sell milkshake mixers, he bought the store. In Athens, one can see marble columns on his or her way in to buy fries (Fishwick, 1995). In Bucharest, a former train station now sells happy meals instead of tickets (Fishwick, 1995). People are often uneasy with the unknown. If a McDonald's from Alabama dropped into Indonesia, the residents would probably be weary. Adopting local design styles makes the store seems a little less foreign. Architecture is not the only thing for which they make concessions. After McDonald's has established itself in an area, the menu sometimes alters. With Ronald, many eat "Spicy Wings (red–pepper–laced chicken) in Beijing, kosher Big Macs (minus the cheese) in Jerusalem, vegetable McNuggets in New Delhi, or a McHuevo (a burger with fried egg) in Montevideo" (Watson, 2000:122). In the Netherlands traditional favorites of applesauce and fried chicken cakes are offered (Fishwick, 1995). In Holland the menu tweaking was as simple as replacing ketchup with mayonnaise (DeBres, 2005). Many European countries have more beverage options than milkshakes or Coke. In France wine is offered; in Germany the option is beer, and the English can order tea (DeBres, 2005). This flexibility contributes to customers' comfort while visiting a foreign restaurant, which in turn can lead to customer loyalty and respect. There are many fast food places in Japan. Fat is very important to your daily functions such as walking or running and is required to live a healthy life. There are 4 main types of fat, they are saturated fat, trans fat, polyunsaturated fat, and monounsaturated fat. The worst type of fat humans consume on a daily basis is trans fat. Trans fat is a bio product of a process called hydrogenation. Hydrogenation is used to turn healthy oils into solids to prevent them from becoming rancid. Trans fat are the worst type of fat for any human to consume. The way you can tell the difference between trans fat and good fat(polyunsaturated, monounsaturated) is trans fat are solid at room temperature. For example if you leave bacon grease out overnight in a bowl it will be solid the next morning. Good fats are liquid at room temperature, such as vegetable oil. According to Britannica Encyclopedia, Trans–fat can also be called trans–fatty acid or partially hydrogenated fat. Britannica Encyclopedia states that hydrogenated products first began in the 1890s by a French chemist names Paul Sabatier. Later in 1901, there was a German chemist named Wilhelm Normann who successfully produced the hydrogenation of liquid fat and produced semisolid fat, which is what is known today as trans–fat. He received a patent in 1903. Once food manufacturers got their hands on this product, they liked it and ran with it because it allowed their products to have a longer shelf life. • 29. Trans Fats And Its Effects On Human Health Partially hydrogenated oils: These types of oils have the purpose of giving a longer shelf life to food and giving more stability to oils that are usually liquid at room temperature. By partially hydrogenating certain oils, food industries can make liquid oils solid and sustain a food's flavor and the length it can remain on shelves. This types of oil, PHOs, make up most of the artificial trans fats in many foods. PHOs are created by chemically altering the chemical bonds of the oils by adding hydrogen molecules to create a solid oil. This type of oil has a negative impact on human health and the FDA recently decided that PHOs were regarded as not "generally recognized as safe" for human consumption. Since PHOs are the main source of trans fats in American's diets, they have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease that could lead to heart attacks and death. Hydrogenated oils: Like partially hydrogenated oils, hydrogenated oils are used to create solids out of naturally liquid oils to lengthen the life of products. Adding these oils to food also acts as a preservative for foods and improve texture and taste. Hydrogenated oils are created by heating them at high temperatures for several hours, then adding a metal catalyst that creates the denser, thicker substance used in foods. The molecule of the fat is straightened by adding bonds. These oils are also shown to contribute to higher blood pressure levels and higher cholesterol levels in humans. Since these types of ... Trans fats are a good example of the necessary understanding of chemical structure, without this knowledge the effects of trans fats on the body would not be understood. Trans fats have no nutritional value and are harmful to the body even in small quantities. There are three things that are imperative to understand when looking at trans fats from a nutritional stand point: what are trans fats, why are trans fats so bad for you, and how to avoid trans fats.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body needs fat to function, they serve many different purposes. Fifty percent of the cell wall is made up of saturated fat.(Stevenson) Trans fats are bad for several reasons. First of all, a saturated fat molecule compared to a unsaturated fat molecule that is a trans fat, have the same chemical makeup, and this is a major problem with the way the body uses trans fats. Because they are so similar, trans fats can take the place of saturated fats in the cell wall. Cell walls are porous, they take in nutrients and expel waste or toxins. When trans fats take the place of saturated fats in the cell wall, because of the placement of the double bonds on the polar ends, this makes the molecule not want to cooperate with other molecules. This leads to gaps in the cell wall which allow toxins to penetrate into the cell. Another problem that happens when trans fat molecules replace saturated fat molecules is typical cell communication is disrupted, this can cause nutrients to not be taken into the cell and toxins to be trapped inside the cell, and can lead to an unbalanced metabolism. Abnormal cell communication also effects hormone signals and reflexes, which can instigate the body to overproduce adrenaline, and in turn lead to adrenal fatigue and even a non–functioning thyroid. (Benson) Trans fats have a very negative effect on the cardiovascular system as well. This type of fat increases the production of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides which clog and cause the narrowing of the arteries, and they lower HDL cholesterol, the good cholesterol. They said "And that's what distinguishes us from Walmart and Costco and, if that goes down the drain, we're going to be in a world of hurt" (Biers J., 2015). These small bakeries fear to become bankrupt. Therefore, even if the new law will have cost the food industry $6 billion to find new resource, for more than twenty years instead of ingredients, the government can save more than $140 billion that the mostly is used by the health care at the same time. • 33. Trans Fat Research Paper Fatty acids or fats are hydrogen atoms that are consist of "chains of hydrogen–bearing carbon atoms" (Tymoczko, Berg, & Stryer, 2013, p. 180). These hydrocarbon chains present different properties such as length of the chain and one or double bonds in which defines the types of fat. Chain lengths and degree of saturation significantly influence the property of the fatty acids. Saturated fats like butter and shortening contain linear hydrocarbon chain, which is composed of single bond. Single bond, saturated fat has higher melting point where as unsaturated fat has lower melting points. Unsaturated fats such as olive oil present double bond that produces the stronger construction between bonds. Furthermore, "short chain length and cis unsaturation enhance the fluidity of fatty acids and of their derivatives" (Tymoczko, Berg, & Stryer, 2013, p.182).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, most of trans fats are production of added hydrogenated oil that can produce longer shelf life of food products such as vegetable oil. Trans fat increases the bad cholesterol (LDL) and lowers the good cholesterol (HDL). Higher concentration of LDL can cause serious of cardiovascular diseases (Mayo Clinic.org, 2014). Food industry strives to identify improved and healthier products for cost saving to extend the product shelf life and provide healthier choices to consumer as consumers seek better and healthier food options for healthier life style. In attempt to provide and promote healthier environment for public, state and local government have regulated the use of trans fat in restaurants. The government objective to promote and provide some regulation around healthier diet appears as respectable approach. However, this should not interfere with personal rights and ... • 34. Benefits Of The Trans Fat Ban In this article it explains how the trans fat ban is tied to fewer heart attacks and strokes. In the area such as New York, where the ban was applied, it showed a significant decrease in heart attacks and strokes. This ban of trans fats also includes many health benefits to it like a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and diseases related to your health and well being. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) implemented this trans fat ban in hope to help people's health and eating habits. The research found that after three years of the trans fat ban there was a 6.2 percent reduction in hospital visits for heart attacks and strokes. This is equals to 43 fewer strokes and heart attacks per every 100,000 adults within the ages 25 and older. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Why Companies Use Artificial Trans Fat Most people consume 25–35 percent of their total daily calorie count from fat; however, only 10 percent should come from saturated fats. There are two different types of trans fat, artificial and naturally occurring. In order to make artificial trans fat, an industrial process adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oil, to make it more solid. This type of trans fat raises the LDL (bad) cholesterol level and lowers the HDL (good) cholesterol levels. This increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, which are the leading killers of both men and women, and is associated with a higher risk of developing type II diabetes. Artificial trans fat doesn't help the body in any way; however, the one counterexample is naturally occurring trans fat. Naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason companies use artificial trans fat instead of naturally occurring trans fat is because of a few reasons. One reason is because naturally occurring trans fat is produced in the gut of some animals and food made from these animals, making it hard to get. Artificial trans fat is easy to obtain and is inexpensive. Another reason companies use artificial trans fat is because it gives food a more desirable taste and texture, making the food more addicting. Most fast food restaurants use this trans fat to deep–fry their food. By doing this, the oil can be used many times in commercial fryers, instead of having to constantly change the oil. Some of the foods that contain artificial trans fat are baked goods, snacks, fried food, any type of refrigerated dough, creamer and margarine. When looking at the nutrition facts panel of these foods, "0 grams trans fat" could mean that the product contains anywhere between 0 grams and 0.5 grams trans fat. Even if the package says "0 grams trans fat," by looking at the ingredients list a person can tell if the product has trans fat. If the ingredients list says "partially hydrogenated oils" then the product contains trans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Trans Fats Trans fats are produced as a result of partial hydrogenation of the unsaturated fats18. Partially hydrogenated oils have been used in the food products for their higher oxidative stability and the harder texture they provide to the food product18. Several metabolic studies concluded that trans fats increased the low density lipoprotein content and decreased the high density lipoprotien content of the blood19 20. Other health effects of TFA include raising the fasting triacylglycerides (TAG) levels20 and increased Lp(a) levels20 and plasma concentrations of lipoproteins 19 which are associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease. Trans fat consumption has been also linked to the occurrence of coronary artery disease19. Studies also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process can be achieved by chemical or enzymatic routes. The change in the TAG composition has been known to change the crystallization properties of the fats including the microstructure 28, solid fat content29, rheology30 and the hardness of the fats. These properties determine the spreadability, flavor release, hardness of fats in the final application. Schmidt et. al31 studied and compared the physical properties of the blends of vegetable oil with fully hydrogenated vegetable oil and their chemically interesterified randomized counterparts. The randomization of the fatty acids on the TAGs caused a reduction in the melting point and the solid fat content of the samples31. Ahmadi et al.32 studied the differences in the physical properties of the non–interesterified (NI) and chemically (CI) and enzymatically (EI) interesterified blends of fully hydrogenated canola oil (FHCO) and High Oleic sunflower oil (HOCO) in different proportions. The change in the TAG composition did reduce the solid fat content of both the interesterified fats compared to the non interesterified fat at lower temperature, however beyond 70В°C, the SFC of the NI fats was lower32. The storage modulus (G') had the following trend: CI>EI>NI and was dependent on the TAG composition, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. 3.3 Sentences Describe What Are Trans Fats 3 sentences describe what are TRANS FATS? Trans fatty acids is a kind of unsaturated fatty acid, and it is called trans–fat when it is combined with glycerin. Trans–fats are divided two kinds that are Naturally–occurring trans–fats and artificial trans–fats. Artificial trans–fats are made when hydrogen is added to vegetable oils. In November 2013, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that it is not safety when people use partially hydrogenated oils in food. 2) Why are they deemed the most unhealthy fat? It is suggested that trans–fats affect cardiovascular disease and may cause diabetes, cancer, allergies and other diseases because trans–fats affect changes in cholesterol levels. 3) Should Toronto ... • 38. Sauteing Research Paper No one can deny that frying or sauteing is typically the most mouth–watering way to prepare your food, yet it is equally certain that this method is also a less method to cook. Most people believe the main reason sauteing is considered unhealthy is from the added fats from the cooking oil, or the loss of nutrients when cooking with high heat, but there lies a third controversial factor that could be dangerous to health in big ways. Smoke Points This danger lies in the smoke points of oils. When you are frying or sauteing your food, fat molecules in the oil are beginning to break down, converting glycerol molecules into acrolein. This substance is known to bring about unwanted health risks when consumed. According to the EPA, there is not enough data to determine if acrolein is carcinogenic to humans, ... Coconut oil is heavy in saturated fat, but it is derived from MCT fats, which are actually processed differently in the body than standard saturated fats, and may even help the body burn fat! Now lets get to the smoke points of these oils. Coconut oil is the most beneficial oil of the three in terms of healthy fats, however, it has a moderate smoke point (347 degrees F), so it should be used strictly for medium–temperature cooking. Olive oil is a bit more complicated. Extra virgin olive oil is full of great nutrients, and antioxidants that prevent the fats from breaking down at lower temperatures, so it is resilient up to 383 degrees fahrenheit. Remember, even at lower temperatures, these great antioxidants and nutrients can be lost, so I would recommend using EVOO in sauces or dressings at low temperatures, to retain the nutritional value of the oil. It is very important to be sure you are buying high quality olive oil. Many brands add soybean to their olive oils, which can be hazardous to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
