WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
TARGET MARKET/AUDIENCE
• The target audience for withheld would be around 14/15-24
and +.[picture on the right]
• Me and my group considered
this age group to be adequate,
as our thriller sequence is a
high concept idea, which
awakens interest in many
teenagers as well as adults, so
they would go and watch it.
THE APPEAL
• My/ our thriller works well as it contains the
needed aspects in order to create a suspenseful
and successful thriller, eg. : The Victim/ The Hero/
The Villain
• Also, these aspects, as well as the storyline, are
supported by strong visual language, underlining
the thrillers atmosphere and enigma.
• Examples: atmosphere caused by ‘mood
lighting’-> very white/grey/ light lighting portrays
suspense by creating a typical triste atmosphere.
• The thriller With-Held would most probably work
successfully on the ‘real’ market, as its storyline would
likely be seen as innovative.
• The characters, such as in the opening sequence
Gisele, enable the audience members to empathize
with the situation and the given circumstance of the
character [wealthy, good looking, high status/
class, powerful woman(challenges the stereotype)
becomes the victim(stereotypical)], which means the
story becomes more real and therefore thrilling-> good
thriller.
DISTRIBUTION
• Distribution is of immense importance, in order
for the movie that is being distributed to be
successful.
• When a movie is distributed by a gib company,
this means they have a big budget to promote
and market the movie-> therefore this movie is
more likely to be seen which leads to a more
successful outcome in the box office.
• An example for such a movie, relevant to my/
our thriller would be: ‘One missed call’.
ONE MISSED CALL
• ONE MISSED CALL,[horror/ thriller genre], a
Warner Bros. production, was very
successful. This success was influenced
greatly by its marketing, which was enabled
due to Warner Bros. budget.
• Since With-Held does not have this needed
budget, a similar promotion would most
likely be impossible. However, since ‘One
Missed Call’ and With-Held show similarities
within their story, I feel as if With-Held
would most definitely have the ability and
definitely the potential to become as
successful as the Warner Bros. production.
WHO WOULD I/ WE WANT TO
DISTRIBUTE WITH-HELD?
•
•

MIRAMAX:
This company is very successful and have distributed greatly
successful movies in the past. An example would be: Pulp Fiction
• In comparison to Warner Bros., Miramax is not as ‘big’ and
commercial. However, Miramax is globally known and
appreciated, therefore distributing With-Held with them would be a
good choice.
ADVERTISMENT
•

When advertising a movie, it is important to raise attention, in
order to market the product. However, the more unique the idea
for this promotion, the better.
• As a team we discussed and brainstormed ideas of how to
promote With-Held, and came up with a unique method to do so.
We thought about creating an app, accessible with your mobile
phone [which would be suitable due to the thriller’s storyline
evolving around a mobile phone] which labels each mobile phone
this app is installed on, therefore creating a “With-Held
Community’”.
• With this app any news about the movie[updates/ releases etc.]
would immediately be sent in form of a text message to anyone
who downloaded the app. This keeps the fans/ audience up to date
and interested/ intrigued in seeing the movie as well as the
community united.
