Estimation du temps de Approximately 9-12 hours of work outside class will be required in preparation for
travail personnel workshops, reading around the subject and a modest assignment.
Various tutor and student-led classroom activities (lectures / workshops / online
research activities). Students will be encouraged to ‘discover’ and understand the

effects of their own consumption activities as by the more formal means of the study
of Macroeconomic theory and visitor statistics and flows.

• Construction of an accessible definition for Macroeconomics applicable to
the study of Tourism
• Reflecting upon and understanding of Macroeconomics as being the
cumulative effect of individual decision-making (personal, professional,
political), as opposed to merely the study of ‘dry’, de-facto passenger and
spend statistics.
Description succincte • The impact of global forces and ‘discontinuities’ (exchange rates, terrorism,
du contenu climate, diseases, transport costs) and ‘mega-trends’ directly influencing
Tourism flows
• The study of local, regional, national, international and inter-continental
flows of tourist and tourism expenditure and their impacts and implications.
• The role of states and the nature of their interest and involvement in
sponsoring Tourism.
• A macro-economic analysis of Tourism in France relative to its competitors.
No prior knowledge or reading relating to Macroeconomic theory is required.
However, prior to the unit all students must review at least one of the following:

and consider the impacts of such trends on future Tourism

that this global body considers to be of significance in the management of
