Skateboarding Research Papers
Skateboarding is really easy to do when you come to think about, all it really is balancing on a board with wheels and finding your dominant foot
and leg to push yourself with. The first step to conquering the board is to get over come your fear of riding. This has to be one of the most
important steps because if you don't get over your fear you will most definitely fall on your butt or even worst your... face! Now do you really
want to fall on your face or butt? Yea that what I thought. But the most easy way to conquer your fear is to get on a board on a flat street and have
a friend push you down the street. Once you are comfortable with the board the next step would be to find your balance. The most simple way of
doing this is... just standing on a board on a flat street/drive way and just stand on the board in till you have found and achieve your balance on the
board.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third step of learning how of ride a skateboard is finding your dominant and nondominant leg. This is an other very important step because just
like if you don't over come your fear of riding skateboard you will fall, but these falls are going to hurt even more because you worked really hard to
conquer you fear and to find your balance just to skip a step and fall. You will feel regret and that regret will increases the pain in your injurie. There
isn't really a way to achieve find your dominant leg but there is a

Alina Zagitova Figure Skater Analysis
Another way this image could be used as a visual element is it could be put up in a training studio for figure skating as an inspiration to other
young figure skaters. The next image in the article is of another female skater, Alina Zagitova. In the image she has her arms above her head with
one hand grabbing onto her other wrist. She is also in mid air from doing a jump at the competition she is at with her ankles crossed and her legs
together. The face she is making in the image makes it look like she is in a bit of pain or is tired from her performance. In the image all the focus is
on Zagitova. The audience is blurred out in the background along with everything else in the background. The people purposely made the image this
way so they

Persuasive Essay About Ice Skating
Ice skating can be a difficult sport to learn because there are many steps to learn before you can even think about going into a competition. To be
able to start you will need a pair of professional ice skates, ice skating nylons, a ice skating dress or clothes suited to practice in like loose sweatpants
and a long sleeves. First, you need to learn the basics of ice skating. You need to be able to balance on the ice without holding onto the wall, falling,
and wobbling side to side. In order to move on to the next step you have to skate smoothly with ease so you will look professional to the judges. At
the beginning you will most likely fall a lot, especially if you are not used to balancing onto a pair of shoes with a thin blade attached ... Show more

You two will keep doing that until you are able to do it on your own without the help of your instructor. Before you start to make your routine, you
will have to choose a song that will match perfectly with your routine in the making. It may sound hard to pick the perfect song for a routine that is
not even made up yet, but for the first part all you have to do is find a song that you will be able to skate and dance to. The most important rule you
should remember while you are picking you song is that the song has to be absolutely clean or else the judges will either deduct points from your
score or you will be disqualified – it will most likely be the latter. Once you picked out a song give it to your instructor to listen to and see if they
approve of your choice of music. The second part is that your instructor will either be able to make up a routine to go along with the music you had
chosen or they will tell you to choose a different song. Another option is that they can choose a song for you to skate to. The reason why the last two
options are there is because your instructor may not like the music you had chosen since before they even listen to the music you chosen they are
already figuring out what will be put in your routine and how it will be put together. Next, you will begin practicing your routine in parts before you

How I Started Learning Piano
I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering
a new piece and performing in front of an audience. Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play
some of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my freshman year of high school, a friend
convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my
hands on the keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of "Fur Elise". When she then gave me a piece of music, I was surprised to
see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to
follow the sheet music and start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most of the pieces I
once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the
grades call SING! Each grade would create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. My friend was to
play the piano as part of the orchestra, and the pieces I have been learning were part of the show. When she broke her wrist a mere half hour before the
show, she recommended that I

Dr. Michael Furick
Cooper's Ice Arena Solution Claude Cooper's target segment for his public ice skating sessions seems to be adult couples, kids (14 and younger)
and teens (14 and up) I think those target segments can increase revenue for him he may just be going about the wrong way. There's also potential to
make certain sessions more exclusive than other public sessions but Claude seems hesitant to do so. His strategies or ideas are great in theory
however the results show only poor sales. I believe his focusing on one target group so heavily has left him sort sided as to the potential of profits
each segment brings to offering public ice skating sessions.
Each group can benefit from public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once he builds the popularity of his sessions he can start to offer exclusive sessions to certain target markets.
For the elusive teen segment Claude should advertise on contemporary (pop, hip hop, etc.) local radio stations that teens actually listen to. He can offer
an exclusive teen night either Friday or Saturday night. He should think about hiring a contemporary dj to play that night and encourage everyone who
comes to tweet, hashtag or upload selfies to their social apps(Twitter or Instagram).
For couples he can offer a couples only night designed around bonding and socializing. He could offer a couples night out package that incorporates a
public ice skating session that comes with hot cocoa for two or wine for older couples.
For the kids he could have ice skating races where the winner wins a prize and offer times either on Saturday or Sunday afternoons where kids can
come and have birthday parties.
By defining each target market and finding each target markets value of his product he can then sell his product in a way that appeals to all of the
groups. These changes will then allow Claude to generate the revenue he originally set out to make.

My Narrative Figure Skating
When I was young, I fell in love with competitive figure skating. The ice was my second home, and every minute I spent on it was pure bliss. By
the time I was ten, I had practices four times a week and several competitions a year. Unfortunately, my path to success did not leave me unscathed. I
had many falls and accidents over the years, and getting back up was almost never easy. The worst accident occurred when I was first starting to
skate. I was four years old, and it led to my parents almost taking me off of the ice forever. It was a Wednesday. At the time, I only had practice on
Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. I had just gotten my own skates so I wouldn't have to rent them from the rink. They still gave me blisters
since they weren't broken in, but I didn't care about the pain when I was flying on the ice. I put on my skates and hobbled over to my teacher. The ice
had just been run over by the Zamboni. It shined like a lake of still water. My instructor, Kelsey, told us all to work on our falls as soon as we got
on the ice. I got with my partner and worked on my falling and getting up. We had been practicing for about five minutes when I took a bad angle on
my way down. My wrists slipped out from under me when I tried to correct myself and my chin slammed into the ice.
Everything went black for a moment and all I could hear was my own heart. When my vision started to return, I saw Kelsey standing over me and

Personal Narrative: Skateboarding Gone Wrong
Skateboarding gone Wrong I have had several embarrasing moments in my life. Some of the embarassing moments occured while I was a
teenager, some in High School and some not. The worst one I remember the most is when I was trying to ride a skateboard and show off to this
cute guy I had the most outrageous crush on. He was one of my brothers good friends, his name was Samuel they always used to hang out. It was a
sunday afternoon, we came home from church and he came over for lunch. My brother and Samuel went out to ride their skateboards after our meal. I
desided to join them, I remember I thought "Gosh, I love him, he is so beautiful." They both were going up and down the park riding there skateboards

Personal Narrative : Ice Skating
It all began in the December of 1st grade. My parents took me to Disneyworld and Seaworld as my Christmas present. Before we left the grand
amusement park, there was one last show available. We bought the tickets and sat down. One after another, talented ice skaters filled my eyes. They
looked so elegant, gracious, and perfect. It was then I came face to face with my new beloved hobby: ice skating.
After two years and a lot of hard work, I signed up for my first competition. Ice skating is amazing. When people ask me why I love ice skating, this
is what I say, "The way the blade connects with the ice is like a symphony. All the jumps and all the turns are like individual notes on a piece of paper.
When you put them all together, it forms a beautiful and breathtaking song. I joined ice skating because I wanted to be breathtaking and smooth. I
wanted to get everyone's attention in the audience and make them look up." For me, ice skating tells a story, not just a bunch of meaningless moves
smushed together to look elegant.
My mom was helping me put on my skates when my friend came over.
"Hey, how are you? Feeling nervous?" My friend asked.
"Fine," I replied.
"Well good luck. There is some tough competition out there. I just finished my performance. I think I did pretty well. I hope you don't forget your
solo." My friend said very fast and then walked away.
"Bye," I said.
Huh, I thought. I knew that there was a lot of tough competition. Some people practice every day, but

My First Skateboard Research Paper
A time in my life when I attempted to reach a goal was when I got my first skateboard. I had ridden one before but had never had one of my own. I
tried to ride it as much as I could and get better.
It all started on Christmas of 2009, it was snowing, cold and windy I was at my uncles and my mom came and picked me up to go home. There was a
skateboard in the back seat. I was eight years old and this was my second time even seeing a skateboard. I felt excited, happy, and nervous, nervous
because I hadn't really ridden one. My goal was to learn how to ride, and from there learn tricks. This goal was significant to me because I wouldn't be
where I am in my skating now if I hadn't set it.
Achieving this goal was essential because I wanted to become

knew I would do great I was just scared I would fall over with all these people watching. "Well here I go" I thought to myself as I finish up tying my
skates. "Well, I can't turn back know" I exclaimed as I was walking to the ice. My mom was helping me on the ice, and then there I was on the hard
and slippery ice. Standing on the ice, I quickly grabbed onto the boards and started to skate. I saw my legs moving faster and faster. "I'm doing

Research Paper On Clubfoot
Kristi Yamaguchi, the "Jewel on Ice," is one of the best known women ice skaters in the world (Donohue 49). She was talented enough to place top
five in two World Championships (33), talented enough to tour the country to perform (57), talented enough to win two medals at nationals (30),
talented enough to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and talented enough to overcome a disability (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and
with correction devices, it can be fixed (Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is
a birth defect, which means it is there when the baby is born (Frey). With clubfoot, the foot turns toward the other, and those who are affected appear to

One of these very important influences was her grandfather, who pushed her to always give her all. Sadly, he died of lung cancer, which really
tore at Kristi's heart. In fact, after her grandfather died, she exclaimed, "I was pretty close with my grandfather, who died of lung cancer. He was a
big influence and he made me work harder. It was tough to see him go through the suffering toward the end," (Donohue 57). In addition, Dorothy
Hamill also greatly inspired Yamaguchi. Hamill won an Olympic gold medal in ice skating, Yamaguchi had watched her and said that she wanted to
do something just like Hamill (13). Likewise, Kristi also looks up to her older sister Lori, who danced. Watching her sister, inspired Kristi to want to

Personal Narrative: Tights
Ready or Not . . . Here I Come I was so excited! It was my first skating competition and I was ready to shine! I was going to be the next Olympic
champion! I thought I was ready. I arrived at the ice rink a full hour before the competition started. That's when the problems started. I reached into
my skate bag to get my dress, suddenly realizing my tights were missing! I panicked. Ripping through my skate bag, I searched every inch for tights
that weren't there. Leaving the contents of my skate bag strewn about the room, I rushed out to the lobby where my mom was chatting. I burst out my
problem and pleaded for her to go home and get them for me. As she hurried away, I paced impatiently back and forth, wondering how I could ever
have forgotten them. When my mom arrived fifteen minutes later, I blurted my thanks and sprinted back to the dressing room. I yanked the tights on,
picked my dress up off the floor, and pulled it over my head. Snatching my skates, I laced them tightly. As I pulled the tights down over them, I noticed

Glancing down at my skates, I groaned. Of all the beginner mistakes! I had forgotten to take off my skate guards! Without the edge of my blades to
grab the ice, my skates had slipped out from under me, leaving me splattered on the ice. I sighed. I'd thought I was ready, but now, I was feeling
jarred and discouraged. I slowly pulled my guards off and climbed to my feet. I set them on the boards and skated off, admiring my gorgeous,
aqua–blue dress in the Plexiglas reflection. My confidence was slowly returning, as I floated across the shimmering ice. Cautiously, I tried a waltz
/toe–loop jump combination. I executed it perfectly. I skated over to my coach and told her I was incredibly nervous. She laughed and sent me out to
do an axel, the hardest jump I had learned. When I landed the jump, I grinned; my confidence had returned. I was ready, and it would soon be show

Saint Martin Of Tours : A Roman Military Officer
Saint Martin of Tours
Born to pagan parents; his father was a Roman military officer. Martin was raised in Pavia, Italy. Became a Christian, and became a catechumen in his
early teens. Joined the Roman imperial army at age 15, serving in a ceremonial unit that acted as the emperor's bodyguard, hardly fought. Cavalry
officer, and assigned to garrison duty in Gaul.
Baptised into the Church at age 18. Trying to live his faith, he refused to let his servant wait on him. Once, while on horseback in Amiens in Gaul, he
encountered a beggar. Having nothing to give but the clothes on his back, Martin cut his officer's cloak in half, and gave it to the beggar. Later he had
a vision of Christ wearing the cloak. This incident became graphic of Martin.
Just before a battle, Martin announced that his faith prohibited him from fighting. He was charged with cowardice, was jailed, and his superiors
planned to put him in the front of the battle. However, the invaders sued for peace, the battle never occurred, and Martin was released from military
service at Worms ,Germany, and became a spiritual student of Saint Hilary at Poitiers, France.
On a visit to Lombardy to see his parents, Martin was robbed in the mountains, but managed to convert one of the thieves. At home he found that his
mother had converted, but his father had not. The area was strongly Arian, and openly hostile to Catholics. Martin was badly abused by the heretics, at
one point even by the order of an Arian bishop. Learning

My Best Friend In My Life
I am thirteen years old, Ryan Clawford, and my best friend is Carl. I have two large eyes and ears and a faint freckle on my cheek. I live in a huge
mansion as big as an apartment building and that is where I am right now hanging out with Carl. Some people state that Carl is imaginative, but I
can see him and I know that Carl is real. My parents are worried that I do not have friends even though I tell them about Carl all the time. Carl and I
have been friends since I was born. We do everything together like we play in the park together, we go to school together, we go shopping together,
we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together and we also sleep together.
"Honey, do you want to go skating?" Mom questioned.
"Yeah, I would love to go skating. Also, can Carl come with us?" I asked.
"Sure, Carl can come," Mom replied.
"Thank you so much mom. You're the best!" I exclaimed.
Carl and I get our skates and helmets and go to the car. My dad is driving and my mom is sitting in the passenger seat while Carl and I are at the back
of the car. When we finally reach the mall we go to the locker and changing room. Over there we put on our Oilers jersey and skates and head to the ice
rink but while walking towards the door one of my arms disappear and appear dominantly on Carl.

Figure Skating: The Middle Of The Disney Movie Ice
One summer evening in July 2008, I turned the television and happened to flip to the middle of the Disney movie Ice Princess. It wasn't long before
I felt completely hypnotized by the simultaneously elegant and powerful movements of the figure skaters on the screen. Within minutes, I was
attempting to copy their moves, jumping and twirling all over the blue carpet of my living room while trying to avoid kicking my mildly terrified
dog, Star, with my wildly swinging legs and flailing arms. Following that fateful night, I begged my parents to let me take up skating lessons,
promising to do extra chores around the house in exchange. It was a hard won battle, but a few weeks later, I came home from my first skating lesson.

It surprises a lot of people when I say that figure skating is one of the sports that requires the most teamwork. After all, figure skating is most notorious
for is its cutthroat, competitive nature, and it's technically an individual sport. My experience in the past eight years of skating, however, From
bringing each other bulky ice packs to soothe our bruise–stained knees to stretching out a gloved hand to a fellow skater who had a rough fall, figure
skating is a sport that brings out some of the most best teamwork I've ever seen. I can still hear the thundering cheers from my clubmates that flood
the ice arena at competitions when our fellow skaters take the ice. Every winter, after our final winter ice show performance, every skating family
goes home drowning in dozens of presents from fellow skaters, each gift hand–made and unique, Years of training together, spending endless hours in
the gym together, falling side by side, and even going to physical therapy sessions together have forged a bond between me and my fellow skaters
that is inseverable. Nobody understands the tolls and pains of a sport as mentally and physically demanding as figure skating better than a coach or
skater; That's why everyone breaks into joyful applause when a skater at our rink lands a jump for the first time in practice. That's why we all hold
back tears when someone skates an amazing program at a competition, and that's why we throw stuffed animals and flowers onto the ice after our
friends finish performing. The bond I developed with every single person at my ice rink, even the front desk staff who see me come in groggy–eyed at
5:00 A.M every morning, is powerful and one of the things I cherish the most in life. Figure skating was and always will be my first love, and I will
never stop being grateful for the invaluable lessons on flexibility, teamwork, and the value

My Birthday Experience
All I can remember is my piercing red blood dripping on the bone–chilling surface of the ice skating rink. I restrained myself from looking down at my
hand, knowing I wasn't going to be pleased with the results. The thought of being fingerless traumatized me. I laid my hand on the cold surface
where I had fallen, hoping that it would numb the pain. I said to myself, "It shouldn't be that bad, just take a look." I began to slowly move my head

Swan's Ice Arena

Swan's Ice Arena is an ongoing hockey style arena in a city of 450,000 people. David Swan the owner wants to increase profits by reaching public
skaters outside the hockey and figure skating format. Using only what information can be obtained from counting customers and reading industry
newsletters Mr. Swan, has made investments in equipment and promotions. To date the returns on investment have been disappointing.
Mr. Swan has chosen a multiple target market approach putting all hockey and figure skaters in one segment and all public skaters in another. This is

By being perceived as unique in value the arena should have some insulation against competitive rivalry for the customer's dollars. Building customer
loyalty has long term affects. This moves the bargaining power for price into the hands of the arena, increasing margins. These strategies together
make for a more positive market orientation and there is compelling evidence that a market orientation has a positive effect on firm performance (Hou,
2008). Having laid out a framework of new strategies it's time to do some data mining to find the numbers for Swan's perceived customers segments.
Data Mining
The government collects all kinds of useful information about our population. How many people live where, incomes, family sizes, ages, do they rent
or own a home, and lots more demographic data that is free for the asking. Modern computer programs make possible for any company to take the
masses of demographics and analysis segment populations. This has propelled data mining to the forefront of making customers relationships profitable
(Ogwueleka, 2009). This will help Swan understand his customers better and find association between each segment. Customer have life cycle due in
part to the time of year, so Swan can now structure his advertising and see results based on a better segment model rather than just counting customers.
Data mining can also be used in customer retention applications identifying

Analysis Of The Book ' The Winter '
SYMBOLISM
Seasons
In The Skating Party, each season brings a separate event for Nathan. In the spring, he falls in love with Delia. Spring is shown as a happy season
full of blooming plants, which directly correlates with his budding love for Delia. In Fall, Nathan falls in love with Eunice. Fall is still considered
to be a nice season, however it is often raining, and doesn't have as joyful of a mood as spring. This symbolism of these two seasons shows that Nathan
always liked Delia more, and had a higher regard for his love for her than his love with Eunice. Finally, in the winter, Nathan faces the tragedy of
Eunice's death. Winter is a season when plants and trees die, which is not coincidentally the season that his fiancГ©e passes away as well.
Frozen Lake, Ice Skating
When Maida's mother, Winnie, speaks of skating, she remembers it as a happy time. Winnie always used to skate when she was younger, so this as a
result created numerous pleasant memories for her. However, for Uncle Nathan, ice skating represents death and grief; it was while he was skating that
he lost his fiancГ©e, Eunice, so he doesn't like to think of this activity as a result.
Stone Man
At the beginning of this story, Nathan and Maida's parents tell her about the Stone Man that once stood on the hill that their house is on. Maida 's
Grandfather needed more land to grow his crops, and the only land he could use was where the Stone Man stood; he was forced to choose between

Creative Writing: South Charleston Memorial Ice
I met up with Andy and the rest of the band, except for CC, he had to miss due to a personal fear of ice skating. We meet up at the South Charleston
Memorial Ice Arena.
" so guys, how the new album going?" I asked nervously.
"Good,I guess," Ashley answered.
"Great," I answered trying to keep the conversation from dying.
"It's a shame that CC had to miss," Andy said nervously.
"Yeah," Jake answered.
"Let's go skate," I offered.
"Yeah," they said rushing off.
"Happy 26th birthday Andy," I said feeling something as cold as death.

"Because, were really not here," Jake said looking annoyed.
"What? How? I'm confused?" I said.
"Wake up," I heard everyone say at once.
I closed my eyes and opened them again, finding myself surrounded by five tall men in black. Andy, Ashley, Jake, Jinxx, and CC. I asked what was

The Plymouth Family Ice-Personal Narrative
The ripping of blades against the solid and stable ice. I fell in love with the sound the minuet I laced up my first skates. I was at The Falmouth
Family Ice Center, lacing up a set of white rental figure skates while my once and cheeks turned numb and blush color filled the tip of my nose. I
could hear the laughs and the screams, but under that I could hear the slice of blades ripping through the solid ice. At first, I couldn't go two feet
without another bruise, but after a few hours on the chair I could make it around the entire ice arena without coloring my skin black and blue. I spent
every weekend getting farther and farther away from the chair and away from the wall. I fell in live with skating and eventually graduated from my

nights, early mornings and lazy Sundays were the only times we got to see each other and there wasn't much room for chitchat, but they all felt
like sisters to me. I knew about their childhoods and about how everyone of them became a hockey player. I knew their mothers and fathers,
sisters and brothers, but they all came from different schools, families, and lives. There was one girl a sharp, smart, skilled player who had an afro
bigger than her hockey bag. She was always telling people what they could improve on and everyone listened too her because she was so skilled.
She suffered from seizures and after a few scary practices, that she always came back from, she had to stop playing because it was too risky. It was
the saddest goodbye ever. She skated off the ice that day with a tear in her eye. I knew it was a hard moment for her, but I never knew what it would

Skate Boarding
More Respect for Skater Freaks
The wheels of the board grind across the asphalt pavement, carrying its rider across the parking lot. His loose clothes rustle in the breeze, and his
hair flies around his face until he puts on his baseball cap to control it. In one fluid movement, he pushes on the back of his board, curls his front
foot, and leaps into the air. But the board seems to have a mind of its own and tangles itself in his feet. SMACK!! The skater's arm rakes across the
pavement as he hits the ground–"road rash." The boy gets back up, returns his cap to his head, and continues to skate with hardly any hesitation. Skating

Lee answers most of my questions since Eric is constantly distracted, between cleaning up and goofing around with fellow employees.
When it comes to his priorities, skating comes before his health, but school comes before skating. When he falls and gets a cut or the dreaded "road
rash"–like carpet burn only on asphalt–he doesn't stop to get a Band–Aid or some peroxide for it. Instead, he gets back up and continues skating. Pain
seems to mean little to him and other skaters. Both he and Eric insist that they would break something before seeing a doctor about it. However, when
it comes to school, that takes priority over skateboarding. "Because skating isn't going to take me anywhere, it's just a hobby. It isn't like a career or
anything. And even if it was, I'm not that good." Although Lee firmly insists that he does have some sort of future plans, he refuses to share them with
the rest of us sitting around.
As for short–term goals, that is to say, what are Lee's goals as a skater? "To learn as many tricks as possible. To learn something new every time, so
long as it looks good!" A trick (a skating move) doesn't have to be all that difficult to perfect; it just has to look good. And just exactly what does he,
or any other skater for that matter, do when he pulls off a great–looking trick on his board? "Hope the hell I can do it again so someone will see me!

Mighty Ducks: Movie Critique
Movie Critique: The Mighty Ducks – 1 Introduction The first "The Mighty Ducks" movie raises numerous aspects of sociology in sport that will be
analyzed in this paper. The two aspects of sociology in sport that were prevalent in the Mighty Ducks movie were: ethics and gender. This movie
provides an example of a character who begins the story as a morally bankrupt individual with a "win at all cost" attitude. Through his experience
coaching a young hockey team, Bombay learns the true meaning of sport and transforms into ethically and morally sound individual. The first
installment of the Mighty Ducks trilogy also presents an interesting case of a female skater who fulfills the stereotype that girls should figure skate and

However, the reality of the game of hockey is that actions such as these are a regular occurrence. Fortunately, through education, clinics, standards and
regulations, efforts are continually being made to teach coaches how their actions impact their pupils. As the Coaching Association of Canada states
"when you become a coach, you will help others reach beyond themselves, to reach higher, both in sport and in life." Fortunately, Coach Bombay
develops and grows, both as a person and a coach. Through the guidance of an old mentor, influence of young ethically sound players, and personal
growth, Coach Bombay comes to realize that there is more purpose in live than can be gained by winning a hockey game. The lessons and values he
gained during his experience with the hockey team in his season of growth, allow Bombay to learn the important requirements of being a coach and a
moral person which include: "encouraging teamwork, commitment, fair play, sportspersonship, and balancing obligations to individual team members
and to the team as a whole" (Russell, 2011, 87). Coach Bombay demonstrates these requirements by showing change in his coaching philosophy in the
Championship game. Instead of trying to "win the game at all cost", Bombay stated "we may win, we may not...but that doesn't matter, what matters is
that we are here...go have fun" (Walt Disney Pictures). While competitive teams seen in the NHL and the Olympics likely would not

Rationale: In The Things They Carried the idea of spinning, in various forms captivated me the most. From the start, I knew I wanted to display the
young girl from "Style" in my collage since I thought it would be the best way to insert myself into the piece. I wanted to express how war spins
from hell and violence, to beauty and peace. O'Brien tells many stories that seem terrible, but end with some beauty or peace behind it. O'Brien juggles
the idea of spinning, from the girl dancing surrounded by wreckage, to O'Brien's mind spinning out of the control of rational thought as he wonders what

Informative Essay On Ice Skating
What is ice skating? According to the Oxford Dictionary it is, "Skating on ice as a sport or pastime". But what does that tell us about it besides that it
is a sport or a favourite pastime?
Maybe there is actually more to it...
First of all, let us start with the history of ice skating. So far, it is very unclear of where it originated and when people first strapped on ice skates.
Although most sources say it is around 3 000 B.C, no one knows for sure so it could be even older than we will ever imagine or know. It is also
unclear of which nation tried it for the first time. Some say the Dutch first introduced it, others say the Romans, and some even go as far as to say a
pair of ice skates was discovered at the depths of a lake in Switzerland. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We do know for sure though that in the mid–17th century everyone in the Netherlands skated; young or old, fit or unfit, it didn't really matter who
you were or what your abilities were like. No one cared as long as you could actually step onto the ice.
Even though the history of the sport has little clarity, that doesn't mean that the actual skate has little clarity too. It is a fact that the blade of the ice skate
was first made from animal bone many years ago and had to be strapped on because a boot with the blade was only made in the mid–1800s. . Figure
skaters were able to do more complicated moves, turns and twists as a result of this marvellous and ingenious invention. This idea completely
reinvented the sport and made it what we now know today. The blade of ice skates have also changed and evolved dramatically. Instead of having a
slim, sharp blade, they had a flat and wide blade that didn't really look like a blade because it was used more to glide across the ice rather than to skate
on it. The main reason was because ice skating first started out as a means to
"flee" (Riedell Skates 1) from approaching danger during the winter season especially in colder climates. The

Personal Narrative Essay : Falling On Ice
Falling On Ice Growing up, I never really was the athletic type. I would occasionally ride my bike outside with the neighbor kids or participate in
dodgeball in the gym at school, but I definitely had no athletic ability. There were many other great things I was interested in, none of which being
sports, or anything that took any sort of coordination. In fifth grade, I had a little accident that proved to me I am not the type of person for sports.
One day, my best friend Gaby began passing out invitations to her birthday party. I always enjoyed picking gifts out for my friends and attending their
birthday parties. I was so excited, that I ripped open the envelope the invitation was encased in only to realize the Birthday party included ice skating. I
had never been ice skating before, and I could hardly skate on a regular skating rink, let alone balance on top of ice. I was super nervous to skate
on the ice for the first time mostly because I knew how dangerous it is. There were actually about 50,000 ice skating incidents recorded in the year
2015. (Dodson) I was excited to have time to hang out with my friends, but I was terrified to try something new like ice skating in front of everyone,
with the possibility of failing horribly.
The day of the Birthday party finally came around, and my aunt and uncle took me. On the way to the ice rink, I was super nervous but still excited.
When I finally arrived, I walked in and greeted all of my friends who were already there. We

Skateboarding Research and Ice Skating Essays

  • 1. Skateboarding Research Papers Skateboarding is really easy to do when you come to think about, all it really is balancing on a board with wheels and finding your dominant foot and leg to push yourself with. The first step to conquering the board is to get over come your fear of riding. This has to be one of the most important steps because if you don't get over your fear you will most definitely fall on your butt or even worst your... face! Now do you really want to fall on your face or butt? Yea that what I thought. But the most easy way to conquer your fear is to get on a board on a flat street and have a friend push you down the street. Once you are comfortable with the board the next step would be to find your balance. The most simple way of doing this is... just standing on a board on a flat street/drive way and just stand on the board in till you have found and achieve your balance on the board.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third step of learning how of ride a skateboard is finding your dominant and nondominant leg. This is an other very important step because just like if you don't over come your fear of riding skateboard you will fall, but these falls are going to hurt even more because you worked really hard to conquer you fear and to find your balance just to skip a step and fall. You will feel regret and that regret will increases the pain in your injurie. There isn't really a way to achieve find your dominant leg but there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Alina Zagitova Figure Skater Analysis Another way this image could be used as a visual element is it could be put up in a training studio for figure skating as an inspiration to other young figure skaters. The next image in the article is of another female skater, Alina Zagitova. In the image she has her arms above her head with one hand grabbing onto her other wrist. She is also in mid air from doing a jump at the competition she is at with her ankles crossed and her legs together. The face she is making in the image makes it look like she is in a bit of pain or is tired from her performance. In the image all the focus is on Zagitova. The audience is blurred out in the background along with everything else in the background. The people purposely made the image this way so they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Essay About Ice Skating Ice skating can be a difficult sport to learn because there are many steps to learn before you can even think about going into a competition. To be able to start you will need a pair of professional ice skates, ice skating nylons, a ice skating dress or clothes suited to practice in like loose sweatpants and a long sleeves. First, you need to learn the basics of ice skating. You need to be able to balance on the ice without holding onto the wall, falling, and wobbling side to side. In order to move on to the next step you have to skate smoothly with ease so you will look professional to the judges. At the beginning you will most likely fall a lot, especially if you are not used to balancing onto a pair of shoes with a thin blade attached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You two will keep doing that until you are able to do it on your own without the help of your instructor. Before you start to make your routine, you will have to choose a song that will match perfectly with your routine in the making. It may sound hard to pick the perfect song for a routine that is not even made up yet, but for the first part all you have to do is find a song that you will be able to skate and dance to. The most important rule you should remember while you are picking you song is that the song has to be absolutely clean or else the judges will either deduct points from your score or you will be disqualified – it will most likely be the latter. Once you picked out a song give it to your instructor to listen to and see if they approve of your choice of music. The second part is that your instructor will either be able to make up a routine to go along with the music you had chosen or they will tell you to choose a different song. Another option is that they can choose a song for you to skate to. The reason why the last two options are there is because your instructor may not like the music you had chosen since before they even listen to the music you chosen they are already figuring out what will be put in your routine and how it will be put together. Next, you will begin practicing your routine in parts before you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How I Started Learning Piano I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering a new piece and performing in front of an audience. Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play some of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my freshman year of high school, a friend convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my hands on the keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of "Fur Elise". When she then gave me a piece of music, I was surprised to see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to follow the sheet music and start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most of the pieces I once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the grades call SING! Each grade would create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. My friend was to play the piano as part of the orchestra, and the pieces I have been learning were part of the show. When she broke her wrist a mere half hour before the show, she recommended that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Coopers Ice Arena Solution Tiffany Harrison MKTG 3000 Spring 2015 Dr. Michael Furick Cooper's Ice Arena Solution Claude Cooper's target segment for his public ice skating sessions seems to be adult couples, kids (14 and younger) and teens (14 and up) I think those target segments can increase revenue for him he may just be going about the wrong way. There's also potential to make certain sessions more exclusive than other public sessions but Claude seems hesitant to do so. His strategies or ideas are great in theory however the results show only poor sales. I believe his focusing on one target group so heavily has left him sort sided as to the potential of profits each segment brings to offering public ice skating sessions. He can offer an exclusive teen night either Friday or Saturday night. He should think about hiring a contemporary dj to play that night and encourage everyone who comes to tweet, hashtag or upload selfies to their social apps(Twitter or Instagram). For couples he can offer a couples only night designed around bonding and socializing. He could offer a couples night out package that incorporates a public ice skating session that comes with hot cocoa for two or wine for older couples. For the kids he could have ice skating races where the winner wins a prize and offer times either on Saturday or Sunday afternoons where kids can come and have birthday parties. By defining each target market and finding each target markets value of his product he can then sell his product in a way that appeals to all of the groups. These changes will then allow Claude to generate the revenue he originally set out to make. References Schiff, Jennifer. "Yahoo Web Search." Tips+on+how+to+market+to+teens. CIO, 24 Sept. 2014. • 7. My Narrative Figure Skating When I was young, I fell in love with competitive figure skating. The ice was my second home, and every minute I spent on it was pure bliss. By the time I was ten, I had practices four times a week and several competitions a year. Unfortunately, my path to success did not leave me unscathed. I had many falls and accidents over the years, and getting back up was almost never easy. The worst accident occurred when I was first starting to skate. I was four years old, and it led to my parents almost taking me off of the ice forever. It was a Wednesday. At the time, I only had practice on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. I had just gotten my own skates so I wouldn't have to rent them from the rink. They still gave me blisters since they weren't broken in, but I didn't care about the pain when I was flying on the ice. I put on my skates and hobbled over to my teacher. The ice had just been run over by the Zamboni. It shined like a lake of still water. My instructor, Kelsey, told us all to work on our falls as soon as we got on the ice. I got with my partner and worked on my falling and getting up. We had been practicing for about five minutes when I took a bad angle on my way down. My wrists slipped out from under me when I tried to correct myself and my chin slammed into the ice. Everything went black for a moment and all I could hear was my own heart. When my vision started to return, I saw Kelsey standing over me and asking if I was okay. • 8. Personal Narrative: Skateboarding Gone Wrong Skateboarding gone Wrong I have had several embarrasing moments in my life. Some of the embarassing moments occured while I was a teenager, some in High School and some not. The worst one I remember the most is when I was trying to ride a skateboard and show off to this cute guy I had the most outrageous crush on. He was one of my brothers good friends, his name was Samuel they always used to hang out. It was a sunday afternoon, we came home from church and he came over for lunch. My brother and Samuel went out to ride their skateboards after our meal. I desided to join them, I remember I thought "Gosh, I love him, he is so beautiful." • 9. Personal Narrative : Ice Skating It all began in the December of 1st grade. My parents took me to Disneyworld and Seaworld as my Christmas present. Before we left the grand amusement park, there was one last show available. We bought the tickets and sat down. One after another, talented ice skaters filled my eyes. They looked so elegant, gracious, and perfect. It was then I came face to face with my new beloved hobby: ice skating. After two years and a lot of hard work, I signed up for my first competition. Ice skating is amazing. When people ask me why I love ice skating, this is what I say, "The way the blade connects with the ice is like a symphony. All the jumps and all the turns are like individual notes on a piece of paper. When you put them all together, it forms a beautiful and breathtaking song. I joined ice skating because I wanted to be breathtaking and smooth. I wanted to get everyone's attention in the audience and make them look up." For me, ice skating tells a story, not just a bunch of meaningless moves smushed together to look elegant. My mom was helping me put on my skates when my friend came over. "Hey, how are you? Feeling nervous?" My friend asked. "Fine," I replied. "Well good luck. There is some tough competition out there. I just finished my performance. I think I did pretty well. I hope you don't forget your solo." My friend said very fast and then walked away. "Bye," I said. Huh, I thought. I knew that there was a lot of tough competition. • 10. My First Skateboard Research Paper A time in my life when I attempted to reach a goal was when I got my first skateboard. I had ridden one before but had never had one of my own. I tried to ride it as much as I could and get better. It all started on Christmas of 2009, it was snowing, cold and windy I was at my uncles and my mom came and picked me up to go home. There was a skateboard in the back seat. I was eight years old and this was my second time even seeing a skateboard. I felt excited, happy, and nervous, nervous because I hadn't really ridden one. My goal was to learn how to ride, and from there learn tricks. This goal was significant to me because I wouldn't be where I am in my skating now if I hadn't set it. I knew I would do great I was just scared I would fall over with all these people watching. "Well here I go" I thought to myself as I finish up tying my skates. "Well, I can't turn back know" I exclaimed as I was walking to the ice. My mom was helping me on the ice, and then there I was on the hard and slippery ice. She was talented enough to place top five in two World Championships (33), talented enough to tour the country to perform (57), talented enough to win two medals at nationals (30), talented enough to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and talented enough to overcome a disability (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and with correction devices, it can be fixed (Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is a birth defect, which means it is there when the baby is born (Frey). It was tough to see him go through the suffering toward the end," (Donohue 57). In addition, Dorothy Hamill also greatly inspired Yamaguchi. Hamill won an Olympic gold medal in ice skating, Yamaguchi had watched her and said that she wanted to do something just like Hamill (13). I thought I was ready. I arrived at the ice rink a full hour before the competition started. That's when the problems started. I reached into my skate bag to get my dress, suddenly realizing my tights were missing! I panicked. Ripping through my skate bag, I searched every inch for tights that weren't there. Leaving the contents of my skate bag strewn about the room, I rushed out to the lobby where my mom was chatting. I burst out my problem and pleaded for her to go home and get them for me. As she hurried away, I paced impatiently back and forth, wondering how I could ever have forgotten them. When my mom arrived fifteen minutes later, I blurted my thanks and sprinted back to the dressing room. I yanked the tights on, picked my dress up off the floor, and pulled it over my head. Snatching my skates, I laced them tightly. As I pulled the tights down over them, I noticed that my tights were on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Glancing down at my skates, I groaned. Of all the beginner mistakes! I had forgotten to take off my skate guards! Without the edge of my blades to grab the ice, my skates had slipped out from under me, leaving me splattered on the ice. I sighed. I'd thought I was ready, but now, I was feeling jarred and discouraged. I slowly pulled my guards off and climbed to my feet. I set them on the boards and skated off, admiring my gorgeous, aqua–blue dress in the Plexiglas reflection. My confidence was slowly returning, as I floated across the shimmering ice. Cautiously, I tried a waltz /toe–loop jump combination. I executed it perfectly. I skated over to my coach and told her I was incredibly nervous. She laughed and sent me out to do an axel, the hardest jump I had learned. When I landed the jump, I grinned; my confidence had returned. I was ready, and it would soon be show ... I live in a huge mansion as big as an apartment building and that is where I am right now hanging out with Carl. Some people state that Carl is imaginative, but I can see him and I know that Carl is real. My parents are worried that I do not have friends even though I tell them about Carl all the time. By being perceived as unique in value the arena should have some insulation against competitive rivalry for the customer's dollars. Building customer loyalty has long term affects. This moves the bargaining power for price into the hands of the arena, increasing margins. These strategies together make for a more positive market orientation and there is compelling evidence that a market orientation has a positive effect on firm performance (Hou, 2008). Having laid out a framework of new strategies it's time to do some data mining to find the numbers for Swan's perceived customers segments. Data Mining The government collects all kinds of useful information about our population. How many people live where, incomes, family sizes, ages, do they rent or own a home, and lots more demographic data that is free for the asking. • 22. Analysis Of The Book ' The Winter ' SYMBOLISM Seasons In The Skating Party, each season brings a separate event for Nathan. In the spring, he falls in love with Delia. Spring is shown as a happy season full of blooming plants, which directly correlates with his budding love for Delia. In Fall, Nathan falls in love with Eunice. Fall is still considered to be a nice season, however it is often raining, and doesn't have as joyful of a mood as spring. This symbolism of these two seasons shows that Nathan always liked Delia more, and had a higher regard for his love for her than his love with Eunice. Finally, in the winter, Nathan faces the tragedy of Eunice's death. Winter is a season when plants and trees die, which is not coincidentally the season that his fiancГ©e passes away as well. Frozen Lake, Ice Skating When Maida's mother, Winnie, speaks of skating, she remembers it as a happy time. Winnie always used to skate when she was younger, so this as a result created numerous pleasant memories for her. However, for Uncle Nathan, ice skating represents death and grief; it was while he was skating that he lost his fiancГ©e, Eunice, so he doesn't like to think of this activity as a result. Stone Man At the beginning of this story, Nathan and Maida's parents tell her about the Stone Man that once stood on the hill that their house is on. Fortunately, through education, clinics, standards and regulations, efforts are continually being made to teach coaches how their actions impact their pupils. As the Coaching Association of Canada states "when you become a coach, you will help others reach beyond themselves, to reach higher, both in sport and in life." Fortunately, Coach Bombay develops and grows, both as a person and a coach. Through the guidance of an old mentor, influence of young ethically sound players, and personal growth, Coach Bombay comes to realize that there is more purpose in live than can be gained by winning a hockey game. The lessons and values he gained during his experience with the hockey team in his season of growth, allow Bombay to learn the important requirements of being a coach and a moral person which include: "encouraging teamwork, commitment, fair play, sportspersonship, and balancing obligations to individual team members and to the team as a whole" (Russell, 2011, 87). Coach Bombay demonstrates these requirements by showing change in his coaching philosophy in the Championship game. • 35. Things They Carried Rationale Rationale: In The Things They Carried the idea of spinning, in various forms captivated me the most. From the start, I knew I wanted to display the young girl from "Style" in my collage since I thought it would be the best way to insert myself into the piece. I wanted to express how war spins from hell and violence, to beauty and peace. O'Brien tells many stories that seem terrible, but end with some beauty or peace behind it. O'Brien juggles the idea of spinning, from the girl dancing surrounded by wreckage, to O'Brien's mind spinning out of the control of rational thought as he wonders what could have been of the man he killed, and to the beauty O'Brien found in his dream with Linda, turning Linda's traumatic death into a peaceful ... While following the requirements, I hunted the text for pearls that would best support the idea I wanted to portray. I clearly spotlighted all of the pearls I intended to use, and I created an obvious visual of the thread. I spent many nights painting, gluing, and trying not to rush to complete the project. If not an A, I believe an A– is an appropriate grade for my project since I made sure to put a lot of thought into the project rather than rush to complete. • 38. Descriptive Essay About Ice Skating As quickly as possible, I ripped open the present that lay in my hands. I couldn 't seem to open this marvelous thing fast enough! The cold, crisp, December air blew from the front door passing by, leaving a frigid feel to the house. It was my eleventh birthday in the year 1972, and there I held in my very own hands, my first pair of ice skates. White as the snow outside my door they were, and a glorious delight filled the air with the excitement over this special gift. I looked over and saw my Mom glaring at my Grandma. Why on earth would she be mad about such a thrilling present? It was such an obvious stare, that it almost seemed like my Mom wanted to demolish my skating career before it even started. That had been two years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I put on my skates, and started gliding across the lake. Happiness flowed around me, and I felt the crisp, winter feel of the snow. The weather conditions were perfect for ice skating, better than the abominable harsh winds and copious amounts of snow from last week. I was in my own world, gliding around on the glistening ice, when I suddenly saw a figure standing right beside the ice rink. My mind froze just as cold as it was outside. I quickly realized that this person standing right beside me was my Mother. I quickly ran over to her, and took off my skates. I then gave my Mom an aberrant face, already knowing she was mad. The whole walk home was in silence, and my Mom was clearly irate. When we got to our house, my Mom opened the front door, and I quickly went inside. Before I could even think of what to say to her, she started talking. She asked me why I had disobeyed her, breaking her trust and going against her rules. I screamed back, asking her why she never let me go ice skating, and was always making excuses for me not to go. What started as a small argument, turned into a colossal fight. This continued on for about ten minutes, each of us blaming each other for the fight that went on between us. Finally, she asked me if I really wanted to know why she never let me go ice skating. • 40. Informative Essay On Ice Skating What is ice skating? According to the Oxford Dictionary it is, "Skating on ice as a sport or pastime". But what does that tell us about it besides that it is a sport or a favourite pastime? Maybe there is actually more to it... First of all, let us start with the history of ice skating. So far, it is very unclear of where it originated and when people first strapped on ice skates. Although most sources say it is around 3 000 B.C, no one knows for sure so it could be even older than we will ever imagine or know. It is also unclear of which nation tried it for the first time. Some say the Dutch first introduced it, others say the Romans, and some even go as far as to say a pair of ice skates was discovered at the depths of a lake in Switzerland. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We do know for sure though that in the mid–17th century everyone in the Netherlands skated; young or old, fit or unfit, it didn't really matter who you were or what your abilities were like. No one cared as long as you could actually step onto the ice. Even though the history of the sport has little clarity, that doesn't mean that the actual skate has little clarity too. It is a fact that the blade of the ice skate was first made from animal bone many years ago and had to be strapped on because a boot with the blade was only made in the mid–1800s. . Figure skaters were able to do more complicated moves, turns and twists as a result of this marvellous and ingenious invention. This idea completely reinvented the sport and made it what we now know today. The blade of ice skates have also changed and evolved dramatically. Instead of having a slim, sharp blade, they had a flat and wide blade that didn't really look like a blade because it was used more to glide across the ice rather than to skate on it. The main reason was because ice skating first started out as a means to "flee" (Riedell Skates 1) from approaching danger during the winter season especially in colder climates. The ... I would occasionally ride my bike outside with the neighbor kids or participate in dodgeball in the gym at school, but I definitely had no athletic ability. There were many other great things I was interested in, none of which being sports, or anything that took any sort of coordination. In fifth grade, I had a little accident that proved to me I am not the type of person for sports. One day, my best friend Gaby began passing out invitations to her birthday party. I always enjoyed picking gifts out for my friends and attending their birthday parties. I was so excited, that I ripped open the envelope the invitation was encased in only to realize the Birthday party included ice skating. I had never been ice skating before, and I could hardly skate on a regular skating rink, let alone balance on top of ice. I was super nervous to skate on the ice for the first time mostly because I knew how dangerous it is. There were actually about 50,000 ice skating incidents recorded in the year 2015. (Dodson) I was excited to have time to hang out with my friends, but I was terrified to try something new like ice skating in front of everyone, with the possibility of failing horribly. When I finally arrived, I walked in and greeted all of my friends who were already there. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
