Cell Phone In School Essay
Today was the day for the last finals, and I was already running late for school. I looked into my
bag for my ID, which I need to get into school. I started to freak out. I pulled out my phone to call
my mom, thank the lord she answered or else I wouldn't be able to go on to my next grade.
Imagine if I wouldn't have had my phone that day? I would be retaking that class and my parents
would be extremely angry with me. So what if? What if phones were banned from schools and I
wouldn't be able to call my parents for emergencies, or use my phone for necessary reasons? This is
why I think that cell phones should not be banned from schools, because they can keep students safe,
helping with good grades, and notes.
What if today a huge homework assignment was...show more content...
Imagine you've just gotten a new job, and it is a needed skill to know how to use your phone for
certain situations, but you don't have basic phone skills because you never got to use your phone
since your school didn't allow phones at school. So it was basically pointless to have a phone at
all. How would phones in school help prepare you for the future? The article, "4 benefits of
having mobile technology in the classroom" says that "mobile devices won't only be a part of our
day as adults, but it will also be an important part of many career paths." Which from what I think,
most career paths that use mobile devices are probably the better paths with more pay. Cell
phones can also teach students responsibility. How? By keeping up on work, they can help by
setting reminders or having an alarm go off to do your homework. Which a piece of paper can't
do. Or by teaching students to know when to listen, and should be off their phone/device. Knowing
when the right time is and won't get their phone taken away. Responsible for the consequences. So
maybe you will be able to get that job when you finally can because you know how to use a

Use within Schools Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience why cell phones should not be
banned in schools. Central Idea: The use of cell phones in school is great for educational
purposes, social life, and as a safety tool Introduction I.In today's society, the use of mobile
devices has taken over our lives in every way possible. II.Although this has been viewed by many
as having a negative impact on American's lives, we must begin to look at the situation in a
positive manner. A.We need to come to terms with the fact that in reality, there is no stopping this
widespread takeover of cell phones worldwide. 1.Rather than dwell on how much technology, and
cell phones in particular, have destroyed our society and individuals, we should start to look at the
benefits of cell phones. B.Cell phones have had a huge positive impact on our lives and society
as a whole. III.In particular, cell phones can be a significant resource for individuals while
attending school. A.We often associate the use cell phones while attending school as a huge
distraction and something that should be forbidden by all schools. B.However, cell phone use
within schools can help bring out some of the positive impacts cell phones have created in our
lives. IV.Today, we would like to discuss why cell phone use should be allowed while in school and
how allowing cell phones during school hours can

Persuasive Essay On Mobile Technology
Mobile technology has become an integral part of our lives. The concept of a mobile phone came
about in 1973 when Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher, made the first call from a wireless
phone (Seward). This phone was large and clunky; it was not like the mobile phones we know today.
Mobile technology was revolutionized in 2007 when the first iPhone was introduced (Ritchie). The
iPhone popularized the concept of the smartphone. With a touch screen and millions of apps, the
iPhone and other smartphones have opened up endless possibilities for users. For example, social
media has enabled people to share photos and messages in ways never imaginable before, and
productivity and education apps have helped people to work and learn in immersive...show more

Obviously, parents have all sorts of different philosophies on cell phones, and some of these
philosophies conflict with schools' policies. Many parents want their children to learn how to use
technology responsibly; allowing use of personal technology during the school day does just that
(Evanhoff). This way, students learn how to resist the urge to use phones for games or social media
during the day.
Parents also want the ability to quickly communicate with their kids; this provides parents with a
sense of security and safety. They want to stay in touch with their kids in the event of an
emergency, and they want to easily be able to communicate about carpools and other scheduling
issues (Johnson). Technology should be viewed as an extension of the classroom rather than a
hindrance to learning. Lecturing and other traditional methods of teaching are gradually fading
away and are being replaced by more interactive ways of learning. For example, teachers can set up
an "open channel" for students to provide comments on a class discussion through their phones
(Evanhoff). Additionally, teachers can use apps to provide quick quizzes or polls to students. An
added benefit of quiz apps is that teachers can immediately see results. At Rockhurst, some classes
use a website called Kahoot! to review material; students can either use their iPads, smartphones, or
laptops to play. Students also use apps like iMovie on their smartphones to create films for projects.

Persuasive Essay On Having A Phone
What do you think of specifically when someone asks what everyone has these days? I don't
know about you, but I think of a phone. Most everyone, no matter what age, has a phone in
today's world. I think I should get a phone because it will be easier to contact people as well as
making it easier to use the internet for educational purposes, easier to stay updated on certain
situations going on in my life and it will teach and make me become more responsible.
To begin with, I think I should get a phone because will make it a lot easier to contact people I
know, such as family or friends that live far away or even if they are only a little bit away. With an
iPod I can text, but only when I'm connected to wifi. It will also make it easier to use the internet
whenever needed for education and learning purposes. I then can look up help on homework
whenever I need to with or without wifi. But not only will a having a phone help me contact people
easier and get school help it would also be easier to stay updated on certain things.
Second, I think I should get a phone because I would be more up to date on certain issues going
on in my life. I would be able to check messages from my mentors easier. Especially with our
grade being on social media all the time, now I feel really left out. I never know what others are
talking about. With a phone and having the privilege to be active on social media I think I would
be more involved with my friends. I also think I would be more accurate

Should Mobile Phones be Banned in Schools? Essay
With the blooming development of science and technology, mobile phones have become an
indispensable part of life. The increasing number of teenagers who use a cell phone in schools which
disrupts classrooms orders has become a major concern. However, mobile phones should not be
banned in schools. Actually, it is not necessary to ban mobile phones in schools. Additionally, using
mobile phones in schools has some positive influences. Furthermore, it is likewise a human right for
students. Firstly, through implementing some campus rules and some technological means, the
negative impresses of using mobile phones will be eliminated properly. Why people think that
mobile phones should be banned in school? The reasons are that using mobile in...show more

In addition, some effective technological means should be used in the classes. Using shielding
facility to screen cell phone signals is a significant way to face the chatting problems during the
exam. Considering all these ways, use mobile phones in schools should be allowed. There is no
reason to neglect benefits of mobile phones by possible potential problems. Secondly, it is no doubt
that using mobile phones in campuses has many advantages. One reason is that using mobile
phones in schools provide a new platform for education systems similarly as laptops, desktops and
personal digital assistant (Rankin, 2008). Use mobile phones may help people to download power
point slides, take notes, share ideas with others by Bluetooth and research questions on web side etc.
Moreover mobile phones are used to check class schedules or take quizzes on the way to schools
(Kharif 2008). The other reason is that students may have a good communication with their parents
by using mobile phones during school time even for emergency situations. There is two third of
parents contact their children during campus time, mainly to awoke them of medical appointments
or other commitments. (Beattie, 2009) Consequently, students should be encouraged bring mobile
phones to school. Lastly, it is a basic right for students to bring mobile phones. It is because no
constitution prescribes that teenagers cannot bring a cell phone to school. This is clearly that youth

Cell Phone Controversy Social media can be perceived as a form of self–expression and a way of
connecting with one's peers. However, others have argued that social media can cause an increase in
mental health problems and a decrease in genuine communication(cite). Because of the impact of
social media on students, there is an ongoing debate about whether it is appropriate for students in
grades 6–12 to have access to their cell phones in school. Many have argued that allowing students
to have their phones with them gives them a way to reach support in case of an emergency, but
others say that these devices are a source of distraction(cite). The use of social media and mobile
devices affects students in positive and negative ways. While some have used social media platforms
as an outlet for emotional support (cite), others have become victims of cyberbullying(cite). Since
many students in grades 6–12 use their cell phones on a daily basis, arguments have been made on
both sides whether cell phone use should be permitted to help students interact educationally, or
whether they should not be permitted since some see the use of social media as detrimental to a
student's mental health and self–esteem(cite). Jo Debens, a geography teacher found that the use of
cellphones in schools had mostly positive effects on the students(cite). She said that the school had
formed a "mobile device policy" and that the use of phones allow students to set reminders for

Should students be able to use cell phones during class periods? This is a question a lot of
students and parents have asked themselves. The invention of cell phones started a debate for
many schools. Many schools accept the use of cell phones but experience a lot of frustration over
them. There are many reasons for and against the use of cell phones in schools. People who
support cell phone use in schools are usually teenagers. People who disagree with cell phone use in
schools are usually teachers or parents, who think cell phones are a distraction. A lot of students see
cell phones as a useful device but many see them as a distraction during class. Throughout this essay

Our teachers are supposed to be our role models, shouldn't they know more? To make it easier in
life we all should be able to use cell phones in class. Some people ask themselves, "If cell phones
are to keep in touch with your buddies, then what is recess for?" Yes, recess is a chance where you
and your peers socialize, but in class don't you need to ask your buddy questions that you don't
understand?– (ie. math problems, homework and etc... ), but at the same time you don't want to be
rude and yell their name out loud and disturb other students from working. So, using a cell phone to
text message is a great idea to keep in contact with your friends. Thirdly, cell phones are just another
item, and banning them makes them more irresistible to people, especially teenagers. "As a student,
I understand that cell phones are distracting while a teacher is trying to help the students––but at the
same time, I believe they become even more distracting to the class as a WHOLE when teachers
make a huge deal out of trying to take a phone away or punish a student for having a phone
out."(Answer.yahoo.com–2009)Cell phones could be one of the 5 distractions–talking, playing,
throwing, devices, and physical actions. With cell phones you're making less distraction to the class
because you're not disturbing anyone but yourself and that's a good

defending: Schools should have the right to ban cellphone use during the school day Nowadays, the
cell phones become popular in the socail, it has become harder to find students who do not own a
smartphone. Youth now have cell phones that they carry with them everywhere . The school systems
are face a challenge pertaining to the regulation of cell phone use by students in schools. Students
insist that phones are necessary. In fact, students should not be allowed to use cell phone during the
school day since they lack the self–control and effect their independent study.Schools all across the
nation are faced with or have had to address students carrying and using cell phones in school. For
example, students would use cell phone in the class. Some of them might have chat with others,
taking selife, or some of them read the novels or some of them play games. Therefore, they waste
the time and learn nothing. Thought the number of student's cell phone using rate are increasing
which have distracting influence and reduce the grades. Students in school are still learning about
themselves, so they should concentrate on study in school day. As a society we are addicted to our
cell phones and students are by far the worst offenders sending more texts a day than any other age
group. Many people who use cell phones too much also experience headaches and even a phantom
ringing sound distracting them and keeping them awake at night. Teenagers spend to much time in

Many people believe that bringing cell phones to school may cause distractions. However, a recent
study leads more and more people to believe that mobile phones could in fact be a "powerful
learning tool" (Docksai), serving as a mobile computer ("Cell Phones in the Classroom" ). Elizabeth
Hartnell– Young, a research fellow from the University of Nottingham tracked 331 students from
14 to 16 years old, for learning through cell phones. They used cell phones to make short videos,
set homework reminders, record poems, and transfer files from home to school (Docksai). Students
described their learning experience as "motivated" (Docksai). Many experts pointed out that students
have a "deep comfort level" with mobile phones (Docksai). In other words, students could learn
more if they enjoyed what they were doing. An increasing number of teachers have changed their
point of view towards cell phones, many now believe that cell phones would exert positive effects on
education. For example, some teachers have already started to collect homework online and answer
questions through text– messaging. A school in Saskatchewan encouraged students to read and share
thoughts about books through their cell phones (Docksai). Furthermore, according to a recent
survey, the majority of students could refrain from using cell phones and not be distracted by them
in class. In fact, over 71% of students didn't

Taking away your teen's phone can be a reflexive response to misbehavior. After all, what do they
value more than their phones? And if that's your go–to punishment, you're not alone. Researchers
find that 65 percent of parents take away cell phones or Internet privileges as punishment. HOOK:
Today's teens rely on their smartphones for their social life, their homework, and–let's face it–their
ability to communicate with us, is it a valid punishment? BRIDGE: Sit down together to discuss
proper use of the phone, inviting your teen's perspective as well, and create a list of phone
behaviors with rewards for good behaviors and punishments for bad ones. For example, you might
tell teens that if they fail to come to dinner because they are Snapchatting, they will lose the phone
for an hour after dinner. THESIS: In today's world, the phone often provides a primary source of
access to both social support and necessary data for school and extracurricular activities,"
Dodgen–Magee says. "To simply yank it away would be like taking away the support of a bridge
with nothing in its place." II. LOGOS : Taking your kids phone away might be a bad choice
because , if they go out somewhere and are caught in something tragic , they don't have nothing to

Brakes screech and a horn is sounded ..... Kids having smart phones is a major distraction... and
has little to no purpose. According david strayer "98 percent of people can not multitask", giving
a child a phone is encouraging them to try to multitask.Which can lead to accidents like this, or
major distraction during school. Need This is just one example why, a minimum age requirement
is needed for smartphone use. Satisfaction Parents need to set limits to the age our children can

world with the overuse of cellphones. People can not have a face to face conversation, they can't
leave their phones in their pockets during family dinner, or even turn their phone off during class.
This is not only a problem for kids but teens and adults. To end teen and adult addiction to cellular

Persuasive Essay : Say No To Phones In School
Say no to Phones
In this generation, cell phones are the center of everyone's focus, but are they really necessary? I
believe cell phones should not be allowed in school. We are only in school for half of the day, we
should be able to go without our phones for that short amount of time. Besides, cell phones create a
distraction during school. They are used for cheating, bullying, they also disturb the learning for
other students. I'll explain why. First of all, a lot of students use their phone in school for one
reason, cheating. When taking a test kids often take pictures of the notes or study guide and use
that information to make a better grade. Kids that are caught cheating, get their test taken up and
they get a zero on that assignment. One way to prevent cheating in the classroom is having a
place to keep the students phone while in that certain class. Also you could put up a rule and
strictly inforce no phones and if a student is caught with their phone they are sent to the office and
get detention. When you have your phone in class it often leads to looking up the answers, if you
do that then what are you really learning? If the teacher asks you to work out a problem from the
night before homework and you looked that particular question up then you are going to either
get really embarrassed at the fact you got it right but cannot work it out, or your teacher is going
to know that you cheated. Second, Bullying has always been a serious problem in schools. Cell
phones have only made that problem worse. Cyberbullying is now one of the top problems in
America. The problem is so bad it is now illegal to cyberbully someone, and if you are caught
doing so, the results could be pretty horrible. Cyber bullying has made the use of cell phones be
turned into something horrible; in cases like these, it has made it to where kids get homeschooled,
or sometimes even take their own life. More kids commit suicide over cyberbullying than family
problems or other reasons that may not be known. Cyber bullying has made social media a disaster
but it is a type of problem that cannot be fixed because there are so many social media websites like
Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Afterschool, all of these have cyber

Cell phones aren't usually that big so it gives the students a great opportunity to cheat. Most of the
time during a test, students go to different websites to look for answers .Since they get free Wi–Fi in
classrooms; it even becomes easier for them to cheat. In addition to that students can also trade
answers with other students in class through Facebook, sms, kik, message and other social
apps.Nowadays, cell phones have become one of the most useful source in America. In other
words, a month earlier, I was looking through some photographs in my library class .The pictures
were about students who cheats on class works, tests, quizzes and homework and can even go to
Gail for plagiarism. On the other hand, today's students take this as a joke. They don't realize how
it affects their grades. You can cheat a lot in life but one day there will be nothing to cheat from or
anyone to get the answers from. In spite of this it is not always mandatory for someone to depend
on a source more than themselves. This was another reason to explain why students should not be
allowed to bring cell phones to school.
Pursuing this further, students should not be allowed to bring cell phones to school because it can
be used for cyber bullying. Students bully other students in hallways, bathrooms, classrooms and
playgrounds but cyber bullying is when you bully someone throughout emailing. Eventually, a

Are Smartphones good for children Smartphones have grown in number across all ages as the
years have passed, especially with younger children in middle and elementary school. Every time
that I go out to eat I see a family with a kid that looks about the age of a elementary school student
that the parents just give them their phone to keep them quiet. But is that a good problem solver
or bad, like in school, is it ok to have elementary students use smartphones in class. Some parents
believe that children in elementary school should have smartphones in class if it will help,
whereas some believe that they should not because it will just be a distraction. In an article called
"Smartphones" from Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2016. Opposing Viewpoints
in Context, they believe that smartphones can be really good for everyone including kids but may
also be a distraction. Mainly, the article says that smartphones are the cause of a lot of problems
that are happening to kids like cheating during quizzes, tests, or exams. Smartphones can also aide
child narcissism through them taking selfies, and might be the main cause of cyber bullying,
because when kids take selfies, no one really knows how other people will react to the photo on
social media which may also cause anxiety to some people who are afraid of being bullied because
of how they look in their picture. When kids spend more time on their phones, it could result in
less physical activity outside of school and increases the rate of overweight elementary students in
the united states. However, Smartphones can be used for medicinal through apps that track your
steps throughout the day to helping someone understand CPR or remember the steps to CPR in a
very important moment that could save someone's life. Also, smartphones can benefit classrooms
in big way if used correctly and if monitored by teachers and staff, but could also be very
distracting and a worse way of cheating if not done correctly. Smartphones can benefit classroom
learning experiences because they can help students on homework at home by allowing them to
lookup any answers that they need, but this could be bad if that is all they do to just get answers
and not do any work.

Cell phones have become a major part of peoples lives and in modern society. Cell phones are
current in society, adults to small children have cell phones. A debate on cell phones in school is
occurring more and more. Do students deserve to have their cell phones for use during instruction
time or school hours? Research states that cell phones are no benefit to students in school. Others
claim to state that cell phones are in fact, beneficial to students and will not damage the learning
environment for students. These arguments have been more plentiful in schools all over the country.

Cell phones will simply make it easier for students to cheat and be dishonest. Cell phones can distract
and interrupt students and their class. In modern society, everyone pays attention to their cell phones
and nothing else. Students are no exception to this, they will spring for their cell phones after every
ring, vibrate, or notification. It would be very difficult for students to pay attention and learn. With
text and social media, students would rather be occupied with their cell phones, then learning. Cell
phones are major interruptions in class and to the students. For example, a student may have their
phone set to silent mode, which is most likely, and it rings in the middle of class. In this situation,
the cell phone will not only interrupt the student, but the student's entire class. A cell phone cannot
just be a distraction and interruption to the student, but also can be an interruption and distraction to
the classmates. If students are allowed to use their cell phones in class, they will use them to look at
non educational, which another distraction. Another problem that comes with allowing cell phones
to be used in school is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying occurs online, usually it happens on social
media, text, or emails. Cyber bullying is when one person says hurtful things about an another
person over the Internet. Bullying also occurs a lot in schools also. Cell phones would

Many students will play on their phones and not pay attention to the teacher and the lesson that
the teacher is giving. Students are sent to school to learn and by playing with cell phones during
classes students are not learning anything that will help them with a career or their futures.
Students can also text friends in other classrooms and not have their minds in the classroom that
they are in. Students may eventually stop coming to school because they can just stay home and
use their cell phones and do other things. Some students do not use their digital devices for the
good that they have, but for the bad. Many students are more likely to get into serious trouble
with they law and have serious legal problems. If students are allowed to use their cell phones in
school and they get caught doing illegal things on their digital devices such as sexting, they will be
punished by the law. This cause major trouble for some students. Many students will also bully
other students more during school hours. If bulling numbers go up it will cause many problems for
the school administration. Some students may also stop coming to school if bulling gets to severe.
Therefore using digital devices in school causes more problems for the students and the school. The
final result of using digital devices during school hours is not a good one. Students can cheat more
easily, which means that they are not preparing for the future and society.

Cell Phones In School Essay
Many teachers believe that cell phones don't belong in a classroom because there are several
disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in
listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about
socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade
people's privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating
a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
When a cell phone rings in a class, not only does it disrupt the class but it also breaks everyone's
concentration. Students can use cell phones to exchange work or answers in an examination or in a

Cell phones let you immediately be in contact with one another, and if an incident had to occur it
would be very convenient since you could communicate so easily. The students can easily put their
mobiles on silent or they could switch it off thus it wont disturb the class. If the cell phone doesn't
make any noise and the student is not using it during class then there is no problem. While it is true
that they can keep it on silent or switch it off but they could easily forget to do so and then it would
interrupt the learning progress and cause them to become restless. For the ring tone could be unusual
and funny to most people causing chaos.
Mobile phones have now become another weapon in which bullies and harassers can use. They are
now able to terrorize the victims with the little fear of getting caught. It too provides the bullies and
harassers to keep in close contact. Mostly tweens, teens and sometimes even troubled adults are
behind this cruel anti–social behavior– cyber bullying. 26% of teenagers cell phones users reported
having been harassed by someone else by their phones. 30% of girls are more likely to be
harassed as opposed to the 22% of boys. This is more prevalent amongst children whose parents
do not hold qualifications. However there have been cases where sexual harassment is the culprit,
so that is why it's more likely for girls to be harassed. There are two major differences between
schoolyard bullying and cyber bullying. Cyber

Such as, if something bad has happened to a family member or an update on how grandma is
doing in the hospital. Having a phone for instant communication will save children the hassle of
not having to leave class to go down to the office to receive information from their parents. Not
only can emergencies happen at home, but also at school. " Schools get closed for various
reasons, sometimes they're natural disasters, or gun shootings which have actually become so
common in most American schools" (Cell Phones Allowed In School). It can be a scary time if
one is on a lockdown or an evacuation. Parents will be worried and want their child to keep them
posted. Also, it is important text friends to make sure they are "okay" during this time if one
cannot find them. Another emergency that may happen is if one needs to react quickly to an
emergency in the classroom like calling 911. Aside from those types of emergencies, students may
lie to their parents about where they are. In this case, Parents can use the Footprint App to track
their children's locations, to know if they are at school or not. Next, athletes are constantly
wondering what time their practice is at. Coaches are changing times and what days they practice,
and this way if a practice time is changed or canceled, the coach can send the team a text. Texting
needs to be kept to a minimum on phones, but it is necessary at certain times. Some students prefer
to do their schoolwork on their phones. With cell phones,

Persuasive Essay On Cell Phones In School

  • 1. Cell Phone In School Essay Today was the day for the last finals, and I was already running late for school. I looked into my bag for my ID, which I need to get into school. I started to freak out. I pulled out my phone to call my mom, thank the lord she answered or else I wouldn't be able to go on to my next grade. Imagine if I wouldn't have had my phone that day? I would be retaking that class and my parents would be extremely angry with me. So what if? What if phones were banned from schools and I wouldn't be able to call my parents for emergencies, or use my phone for necessary reasons? This is why I think that cell phones should not be banned from schools, because they can keep students safe, helping with good grades, and notes. What if today a huge homework assignment was...show more content... Imagine you've just gotten a new job, and it is a needed skill to know how to use your phone for certain situations, but you don't have basic phone skills because you never got to use your phone since your school didn't allow phones at school. So it was basically pointless to have a phone at all. How would phones in school help prepare you for the future? The article, "4 benefits of having mobile technology in the classroom" says that "mobile devices won't only be a part of our day as adults, but it will also be an important part of many career paths." Which from what I think, most career paths that use mobile devices are probably the better paths with more pay. Cell phones can also teach students responsibility. How? By keeping up on work, they can help by setting reminders or having an alarm go off to do your homework. Which a piece of paper can't do. Or by teaching students to know when to listen, and should be off their phone/device. Knowing when the right time is and won't get their phone taken away. Responsible for the consequences. So maybe you will be able to get that job when you finally can because you know how to use a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

II.Although this has been viewed by many as having a negative impact on American's lives, we must begin to look at the situation in a positive manner. A.We need to come to terms with the fact that in reality, there is no stopping this widespread takeover of cell phones worldwide. 1.Rather than dwell on how much technology, and cell phones in particular, have destroyed our society and individuals, we should start to look at the benefits of cell phones. B.Cell phones have had a huge positive impact on our lives and society as a whole. III.In particular, cell phones can be a significant resource for individuals while attending school. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Mobile Technology Mobile technology has become an integral part of our lives. The concept of a mobile phone came about in 1973 when Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher, made the first call from a wireless phone (Seward). This phone was large and clunky; it was not like the mobile phones we know today. Mobile technology was revolutionized in 2007 when the first iPhone was introduced (Ritchie). The iPhone popularized the concept of the smartphone. With a touch screen and millions of apps, the iPhone and other smartphones have opened up endless possibilities for users. For example, social media has enabled people to share photos and messages in ways never imaginable before, and productivity and education apps have helped people to work and learn in immersive...show more content... Obviously, parents have all sorts of different philosophies on cell phones, and some of these philosophies conflict with schools' policies. Many parents want their children to learn how to use technology responsibly; allowing use of personal technology during the school day does just that (Evanhoff). This way, students learn how to resist the urge to use phones for games or social media during the day. Parents also want the ability to quickly communicate with their kids; this provides parents with a sense of security and safety. They want to stay in touch with their kids in the event of an emergency, and they want to easily be able to communicate about carpools and other scheduling issues (Johnson). Technology should be viewed as an extension of the classroom rather than a hindrance to learning. Lecturing and other traditional methods of teaching are gradually fading away and are being replaced by more interactive ways of learning. For example, teachers can set up an "open channel" for students to provide comments on a class discussion through their phones (Evanhoff). Additionally, teachers can use apps to provide quick quizzes or polls to students. An added benefit of quiz apps is that teachers can immediately see results. At Rockhurst, some classes use a website called Kahoot! to review material; students can either use their iPads, smartphones, or laptops to play. Students also use apps like iMovie on their smartphones to create films for projects. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Having A Phone What do you think of specifically when someone asks what everyone has these days? I don't know about you, but I think of a phone. Most everyone, no matter what age, has a phone in today's world. I think I should get a phone because it will be easier to contact people as well as making it easier to use the internet for educational purposes, easier to stay updated on certain situations going on in my life and it will teach and make me become more responsible. To begin with, I think I should get a phone because will make it a lot easier to contact people I know, such as family or friends that live far away or even if they are only a little bit away. With an iPod I can text, but only when I'm connected to wifi. It will also make it easier to use the internet whenever needed for education and learning purposes. I then can look up help on homework whenever I need to with or without wifi. But not only will a having a phone help me contact people easier and get school help it would also be easier to stay updated on certain things. Second, I think I should get a phone because I would be more up to date on certain issues going on in my life. I would be able to check messages from my mentors easier. Especially with our grade being on social media all the time, now I feel really left out. I never know what others are talking about. With a phone and having the privilege to be active on social media I think I would be more involved with my friends. I also think I would be more accurate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Should Mobile Phones be Banned in Schools? Essay With the blooming development of science and technology, mobile phones have become an indispensable part of life. The increasing number of teenagers who use a cell phone in schools which disrupts classrooms orders has become a major concern. However, mobile phones should not be banned in schools. Actually, it is not necessary to ban mobile phones in schools. Additionally, using mobile phones in schools has some positive influences. Furthermore, it is likewise a human right for students. Firstly, through implementing some campus rules and some technological means, the negative impresses of using mobile phones will be eliminated properly. Why people think that mobile phones should be banned in school? The reasons are that using mobile in...show more content... In addition, some effective technological means should be used in the classes. Using shielding facility to screen cell phone signals is a significant way to face the chatting problems during the exam. Considering all these ways, use mobile phones in schools should be allowed. There is no reason to neglect benefits of mobile phones by possible potential problems. Secondly, it is no doubt that using mobile phones in campuses has many advantages. One reason is that using mobile phones in schools provide a new platform for education systems similarly as laptops, desktops and personal digital assistant (Rankin, 2008). Use mobile phones may help people to download power point slides, take notes, share ideas with others by Bluetooth and research questions on web side etc. Moreover mobile phones are used to check class schedules or take quizzes on the way to schools (Kharif 2008). The other reason is that students may have a good communication with their parents by using mobile phones during school time even for emergency situations. There is two third of parents contact their children during campus time, mainly to awoke them of medical appointments or other commitments. (Beattie, 2009) Consequently, students should be encouraged bring mobile phones to school. Lastly, it is a basic right for students to bring mobile phones. It is because no constitution prescribes that teenagers cannot bring a cell phone to school. This is clearly that youth use mobile Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Cell Phones Cell Phone Controversy Social media can be perceived as a form of self–expression and a way of connecting with one's peers. However, others have argued that social media can cause an increase in mental health problems and a decrease in genuine communication(cite). Because of the impact of social media on students, there is an ongoing debate about whether it is appropriate for students in grades 6–12 to have access to their cell phones in school. Many have argued that allowing students to have their phones with them gives them a way to reach support in case of an emergency, but others say that these devices are a source of distraction(cite). The use of social media and mobile devices affects students in positive and negative ways. While some have used social media platforms as an outlet for emotional support (cite), others have become victims of cyberbullying(cite). Since many students in grades 6–12 use their cell phones on a daily basis, arguments have been made on both sides whether cell phone use should be permitted to help students interact educationally, or whether they should not be permitted since some see the use of social media as detrimental to a student's mental health and self–esteem(cite). Jo Debens, a geography teacher found that the use of cellphones in schools had mostly positive effects on the students(cite). She said that the school had formed a "mobile device policy" and that the use of phones allow students to set reminders for homework Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Should students be able to use cell phones during class periods? This is a question a lot of students and parents have asked themselves. The invention of cell phones started a debate for many schools. Many schools accept the use of cell phones but experience a lot of frustration over them. There are many reasons for and against the use of cell phones in schools. People who support cell phone use in schools are usually teenagers. People who disagree with cell phone use in schools are usually teachers or parents, who think cell phones are a distraction. A lot of students see cell phones as a useful device but many see them as a distraction during class. Throughout this essay you'll read about the pros and cons regarding cell phones...show more content... Our teachers are supposed to be our role models, shouldn't they know more? To make it easier in life we all should be able to use cell phones in class. Some people ask themselves, "If cell phones are to keep in touch with your buddies, then what is recess for?" Yes, recess is a chance where you and your peers socialize, but in class don't you need to ask your buddy questions that you don't understand?– (ie. math problems, homework and etc... ), but at the same time you don't want to be rude and yell their name out loud and disturb other students from working. So, using a cell phone to text message is a great idea to keep in contact with your friends. Thirdly, cell phones are just another item, and banning them makes them more irresistible to people, especially teenagers. "As a student, I understand that cell phones are distracting while a teacher is trying to help the students––but at the same time, I believe they become even more distracting to the class as a WHOLE when teachers make a huge deal out of trying to take a phone away or punish a student for having a phone out."(Answer.yahoo.com–2009)Cell phones could be one of the 5 distractions–talking, playing, throwing, devices, and physical actions. With cell phones you're making less distraction to the class because you're not disturbing anyone but yourself and that's a good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay On Banning Cell Phones In School defending: Schools should have the right to ban cellphone use during the school day Nowadays, the cell phones become popular in the socail, it has become harder to find students who do not own a smartphone. Youth now have cell phones that they carry with them everywhere . The school systems are face a challenge pertaining to the regulation of cell phone use by students in schools. Students insist that phones are necessary. In fact, students should not be allowed to use cell phone during the school day since they lack the self–control and effect their independent study.Schools all across the nation are faced with or have had to address students carrying and using cell phones in school. For example, students would use cell phone in the class. Some of them might have chat with others, taking selife, or some of them read the novels or some of them play games. Therefore, they waste the time and learn nothing. Thought the number of student's cell phone using rate are increasing which have distracting influence and reduce the grades. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn't have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless...show more content... Many people believe that bringing cell phones to school may cause distractions. However, a recent study leads more and more people to believe that mobile phones could in fact be a "powerful learning tool" (Docksai), serving as a mobile computer ("Cell Phones in the Classroom" ). Elizabeth Hartnell– Young, a research fellow from the University of Nottingham tracked 331 students from 14 to 16 years old, for learning through cell phones. They used cell phones to make short videos, set homework reminders, record poems, and transfer files from home to school (Docksai). Students described their learning experience as "motivated" (Docksai). Many experts pointed out that students have a "deep comfort level" with mobile phones (Docksai). In other words, students could learn more if they enjoyed what they were doing. An increasing number of teachers have changed their point of view towards cell phones, many now believe that cell phones would exert positive effects on education. For example, some teachers have already started to collect homework online and answer questions through text– messaging. A school in Saskatchewan encouraged students to read and share thoughts about books through their cell phones (Docksai). Furthermore, according to a recent survey, the majority of students could refrain from using cell phones and not be distracted by them in class. In fact, over 71% of students didn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Persuasive Speech On Cell Phones Taking away your teen's phone can be a reflexive response to misbehavior. After all, what do they value more than their phones? And if that's your go–to punishment, you're not alone. Researchers find that 65 percent of parents take away cell phones or Internet privileges as punishment. HOOK: Today's teens rely on their smartphones for their social life, their homework, and–let's face it–their ability to communicate with us, is it a valid punishment? BRIDGE: Sit down together to discuss proper use of the phone, inviting your teen's perspective as well, and create a list of phone behaviors with rewards for good behaviors and punishments for bad ones. For example, you might tell teens that if they fail to come to dinner because they are Snapchatting, they will lose the phone for an hour after dinner. THESIS: In today's world, the phone often provides a primary source of access to both social support and necessary data for school and extracurricular activities," Dodgen–Magee says. "To simply yank it away would be like taking away the support of a bridge with nothing in its place." II. LOGOS : Taking your kids phone away might be a bad choice because , if they go out somewhere and are caught in something tragic , they don't have nothing to get in contact with an emergency helpline . REASON : parents take away the phone for an unrelated infraction, like missing curfew. EVIDENCE : Half of teens now feel "addicted" to their mobile devices – and 60 percent of parents agree with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Speech On Mobile Phones Attention Tim is a blonde 8 year old boy, he walks to school every day. He knows the twists and turns, which way to go and what ways not to go. One night after school Tim's parents surprise him with an Iphone. The next day on his way to school he pulls out his phone and begins to text as he walks. Before he notices what he is doing he steps on the street as he begins to walk across. Brakes screech and a horn is sounded ..... Kids having smart phones is a major distraction... and has little to no purpose. According david strayer "98 percent of people can not multitask", giving a child a phone is encouraging them to try to multitask.Which can lead to accidents like this, or major distraction during school. Need This is just one example why, a minimum age requirement is needed for smartphone use. Satisfaction Parents need to set limits to the age our children can get smartphones. The phones distract their learning. There is already a huge problem in this world with the overuse of cellphones. People can not have a face to face conversation, they can't leave their phones in their pockets during family dinner, or even turn their phone off during class. This is not only a problem for kids but teens and adults. To end teen and adult addiction to cellular devices we, as a society need to stop giving children phones. I know what you are thinking, but what if a kid needs to contact their parent. There is an easy solution to this problem. • 12. Persuasive Essay : Say No To Phones In School Say no to Phones In this generation, cell phones are the center of everyone's focus, but are they really necessary? I believe cell phones should not be allowed in school. We are only in school for half of the day, we should be able to go without our phones for that short amount of time. Besides, cell phones create a distraction during school. They are used for cheating, bullying, they also disturb the learning for other students. I'll explain why. First of all, a lot of students use their phone in school for one reason, cheating. When taking a test kids often take pictures of the notes or study guide and use that information to make a better grade. Kids that are caught cheating, get their test taken up and they get a zero on that assignment. One way to prevent cheating in the classroom is having a place to keep the students phone while in that certain class. Also you could put up a rule and strictly inforce no phones and if a student is caught with their phone they are sent to the office and get detention. When you have your phone in class it often leads to looking up the answers, if you do that then what are you really learning? If the teacher asks you to work out a problem from the night before homework and you looked that particular question up then you are going to either get really embarrassed at the fact you got it right but cannot work it out, or your teacher is going to know that you cheated. Second, Bullying has always been a serious problem in schools. Cell phones have only made that problem worse. Cyberbullying is now one of the top problems in America. The problem is so bad it is now illegal to cyberbully someone, and if you are caught doing so, the results could be pretty horrible. Cyber bullying has made the use of cell phones be turned into something horrible; in cases like these, it has made it to where kids get homeschooled, or sometimes even take their own life. More kids commit suicide over cyberbullying than family problems or other reasons that may not be known. Most of the time during a test, students go to different websites to look for answers .Since they get free Wi–Fi in classrooms; it even becomes easier for them to cheat. In addition to that students can also trade answers with other students in class through Facebook, sms, kik, message and other social apps.Nowadays, cell phones have become one of the most useful source in America. In other words, a month earlier, I was looking through some photographs in my library class .The pictures were about students who cheats on class works, tests, quizzes and homework and can even go to Gail for plagiarism. On the other hand, today's students take this as a joke. They don't realize how it affects their grades. You can cheat a lot in life but one day there will be nothing to cheat from or anyone to get the answers from. In spite of this it is not always mandatory for someone to depend on a source more than themselves. This was another reason to explain why students should not be allowed to bring cell phones to school. Pursuing this further, students should not be allowed to bring cell phones to school because it can be used for cyber bullying. • 16. Are Smartphones good for children Smartphones have grown in number across all ages as the years have passed, especially with younger children in middle and elementary school. Every time that I go out to eat I see a family with a kid that looks about the age of a elementary school student that the parents just give them their phone to keep them quiet. But is that a good problem solver or bad, like in school, is it ok to have elementary students use smartphones in class. Some parents believe that children in elementary school should have smartphones in class if it will help, whereas some believe that they should not because it will just be a distraction. In an article called "Smartphones" from Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2016. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, they believe that smartphones can be really good for everyone including kids but may also be a distraction. Mainly, the article says that smartphones are the cause of a lot of problems that are happening to kids like cheating during quizzes, tests, or exams. Smartphones can also aide child narcissism through them taking selfies, and might be the main cause of cyber bullying, because when kids take selfies, no one really knows how other people will react to the photo on social media which may also cause anxiety to some people who are afraid of being bullied because of how they look in their picture. When kids spend more time on their phones, it could result in less physical activity outside of school and increases the rate of overweight elementary students in the united states. However, Smartphones can be used for medicinal through apps that track your steps throughout the day to helping someone understand CPR or remember the steps to CPR in a very important moment that could save someone's life. Also, smartphones can benefit classrooms in big way if used correctly and if monitored by teachers and staff, but could also be very distracting and a worse way of cheating if not done correctly. Smartphones can benefit classroom learning experiences because they can help students on homework at home by allowing them to lookup any answers that they need, but this could be bad if that is all they do to just get answers and not do any work. Students are sent to school to learn and by playing with cell phones during classes students are not learning anything that will help them with a career or their futures. Students can also text friends in other classrooms and not have their minds in the classroom that they are in. Students may eventually stop coming to school because they can just stay home and use their cell phones and do other things. Some students do not use their digital devices for the good that they have, but for the bad. Many students are more likely to get into serious trouble with they law and have serious legal problems. If students are allowed to use their cell phones in school and they get caught doing illegal things on their digital devices such as sexting, they will be punished by the law. This cause major trouble for some students. Many students will also bully other students more during school hours. If bulling numbers go up it will cause many problems for the school administration. Some students may also stop coming to school if bulling gets to severe. Therefore using digital devices in school causes more problems for the students and the school. • 19. Cell Phones In School Essay Many teachers believe that cell phones don't belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people's privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school. The students can easily put their mobiles on silent or they could switch it off thus it wont disturb the class. If the cell phone doesn't make any noise and the student is not using it during class then there is no problem. While it is true that they can keep it on silent or switch it off but they could easily forget to do so and then it would interrupt the learning progress and cause them to become restless. For the ring tone could be unusual and funny to most people causing chaos. Mobile phones have now become another weapon in which bullies and harassers can use. Having a phone for instant communication will save children the hassle of not having to leave class to go down to the office to receive information from their parents. Not only can emergencies happen at home, but also at school. " Schools get closed for various reasons, sometimes they're natural disasters, or gun shootings which have actually become so common in most American schools" (Cell Phones Allowed In School). It can be a scary time if one is on a lockdown or an evacuation. Parents will be worried and want their child to keep them posted. Also, it is important text friends to make sure they are "okay" during this time if one cannot find them. Another emergency that may happen is if one needs to react quickly to an emergency in the classroom like calling 911. Aside from those types of emergencies, students may lie to their parents about where they are. In this case, Parents can use the Footprint App to track their children's locations, to know if they are at school or not. Next, athletes are constantly wondering what time their practice is at. Coaches are changing times and what days they practice, and this way if a practice time is changed or canceled, the coach can send the team a text.
