OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
1. Conduct self-exploration and simple disclosure.
2. Explain the knowing oneself can make a person accept his
or her strengths and limitations, and deal with others better.
3. Share his or her unique characteristics, habits ,
experiences ; and
4. Maintain a journal.
DEFINTION OF SELF
•Self is the union of elements, namely : Body ,thoughts,
feeling or emotions, and sensations that constitute the
individuality and identity of a person.

WHO AM I?
DEFINTION OF “KNOW THEY SELF”
•It was written on the forecourt of the Temple of
Apollo at Delphi. Legend tells that the seven
sages of ancient Greece, philosophers,
statesmen and law-givers, who laid the
foundation for western culture, gathered in
Delphi to inscribe “know thyself” at the entry to
its sacred oracle.
DEFINTION OF ADOLESCENE
•Is the time when young people start to ask question
about themselves, about their future, and even about
their religious and political beliefs.

 It seems ridiculous for him investigate others
unimportant things where he has not known his self
yet, admitting one’s ignorance is the beginning of true
knowledge.

 The beginning of knowledge is self-knowledge.

According to Hindu ancient writings "enquiry into the
truth of the "self" is knowledge. "
DEFINTION OF SELF-KNOWLEDGE
•Is all-encompassing. What is learned on one scale of
experience can be applied to all scales. It is the
highest form of knowledge, surpassing all other
knowledge.
•Is also timeless, which means that what is gained in
one era, benefits all subsequent generations. On this

•Is the source of a person's consciousness
•Is the agent responsible for an individual's thoughts
and actions.
•An intangible entity that directs a person's thoughts

•The essence of a person : his thoughts, feelings and
actions, experiences, beliefs, values, principles and
relationships.
•Includes a person's life purpose, meaning and
aspirations.
PERSONALITY (PSYCHOLOGY)
•The set of behaviors, feelings, thoughts, and motives
that identifies an individual
•The essence of who we are
•The embodiment of one's physical, psychological,
cognitive, affective, and spiritual self.
•The unique and relatively enduring set of behaviors,
feelings, thoughts and motives that characterize an

on their personal goal.

his family and social ties at home.
TRAIT THEORY
• An approach in identifying types of personalities based on
certain traits or attributes, which vary from one person to the
other
• Developed by D.W. Fiske (1949) and later pursued by other
renowned researchers including:
• Norman (1969)
• Smith (1967)
• Goldbereg (1981)
THE BIG FIVE TRAIT
Costa and Marie (1992)
•Developed categorized scheme that described
personality
•They discovered the existence of five universal
and widely agreed upon dimension of personality
•They Developed the Big Five or Five-Factor
Model.
•It uses the dimension are acronym of OCEAN.
• Openness to experience- curiosity, interest,
imagination, and creativity to new ideas
• Conscientiousness- planning, organizing, hard
working, controlling, persevering, and
punctuality
• Extraversion- sociable, talkative, active,
outgoing and fun- loving
• Agreeableness- friendly, warm, trusting,
generous and kind hearted
• Neuroticism- calm, relaxed and comfortable
MEASURING PERSONALITY
•Observing people's behavior
•Rorschach Inkblot Test- projective psychological test
consisting of 10 inkblots printed on cards ( black &
white)
•Myers- Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) - is an
introspective self-report questionnaire with the
purpose of indicating differing psychological
preferences in how people perceive the world around
Personality trait- is a disposition to behave consistently in a
particular way, while personality is a broader term that
comprises:

• Motives
• Thoughts
• Self-concept
• Feelings

Know Yourself: Traits, Personality and Self-Awareness

  • 2. OBJECTIVE At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to: 1. Conduct self-exploration and simple disclosure. 2. Explain the knowing oneself can make a person accept his or her strengths and limitations, and deal with others better. 3. Share his or her unique characteristics, habits , experiences ; and 4. Maintain a journal.
  • 3. DEFINTION OF SELF •Self is the union of elements, namely : Body ,thoughts, feeling or emotions, and sensations that constitute the individuality and identity of a person.
  • 5. DEFINTION OF “KNOW THEY SELF” •It was written on the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Legend tells that the seven sages of ancient Greece, philosophers, statesmen and law-givers, who laid the foundation for western culture, gathered in Delphi to inscribe “know thyself” at the entry to its sacred oracle.
